Work Text:

The problem with the phone calls was hanging up. Neither of them had the will to do it first. At some point, Kenta and Kim had gotten used to never hanging up, especially at night. The best they could do was to implement that whoever woke up first hung up first, and now Kenta was in a bad spot. He couldn’t sleep without Kim on the phone with him. There was something so comforting about waking up randomly in the middle of the night and hearing Kim’s calm breathing. It soothed Kenta back to sleep and through the shambles of nightmares. He was addicted to their late night calls and falling asleep knowing that despite their distance, Kim felt closer than ever. This had happened all because Kenta suggested they have a call schedule, which fell apart by week two. Kim would call him at all points in the day, and they’d just do things, on the phone, in silence because it was enough to know that the other was there on the other end. “My phone is going to end up with a damaged battery if we keep this up,” Kenta mumbled as he settled in for bed. “Oh well, I’ll buy you a new one if it does,” Kim offered casually. Kenta scoffed, “you can’t just buy me a new phone,” but Kim was as stubborn as ever, “sure I can babe. I’ll buy you a thousand if it’s necessary.” Kenta blushed at the new name, “babe,” and Kim smiled on the other end of the line, “only if you want to be.” Kenta pouted, he liked the sound of that. Belonging to Kim was something he wanted long before Kim left, and maybe it was more realistic now to take it. “Yeah, I’d like that,” Kenta whispered.
