Work Text:

It had been approximately three weeks since Kim left Thailand, and Kenta hadn’t reached out at all. He didn’t know how to because this wasn’t a job or a responsibility. This was something casual. This was a relationship that started from living together during a volatile period of Kenta’s life. Did Kim mean what he said, or was he just being nice? Surely there was a truth to it because they had grown closer over their shared time. They even kissed before Kim decided to leave, so maybe Kenta should reach out. He’d been pacing the front room for about an hour contemplating whether he should, and he did. He made himself hit the call button and deal with the ringing. “Look who finally decided to call me. I was beginning to think I’d never hear from you again,” Kim answered the phone, getting straight to the point. Kenta was silent for a moment, “I didn’t know how to reach out. It’s not something I’m used to.” Kim sighed, “you did it all the time with Pete,” and Kenta scoffed, “that was business only, this isn’t like that.” Kim laughed, “so if it’s not business, then it must be pleasure?” Kenta tensed as his nerves pulsed, “would it be so wrong if it was for pleasure,” and Kim was silent for a moment on the other end, “no, Kenta, it wouldn’t be wrong at all. I miss hearing your voice, even if you didn’t talk much when we were together.” A small smile tugged at Kenta’s lips as he thought about how maybe this was the better option for them after all. “Maybe we could schedule our calls,” Kenta offered confidently, biting his bottom lip, “yeah, I’d like that,” Kim replied softly. Maybe distance does make the heart grow fonder.
