Something was very strange.
Everything was warm. Colorful.
Memories were sluggish and struggled to form.
Where am I?
A fair question.
More alarming… who am I?
Fear started to set in.
I forced the memories to form but they evaporated as soon as they did.
Explosions… screaming… a massive roar that split reality apart…
Then this floating warmth…
I let my eyes close. I drifted.
A breeze drifted through a small meadow; leaves rustled up in the trees and the grass tickled the nose of a small Eevee that was splayed out on the ground like they'd fallen from the sky.
The Eevee’s nose twitched and scrunched up. The wind shifted the grass again, and this time the Eevee sneezed. It stood up and blinked several times before sneezing a second time.
It looked around in confusion before stumbling towards a nearby pond. For a long time the Eevee just stared down at its reflection, jade eyes blinking rapidly in incomprehension.
“Are you okay?”
The Eevee jolted and looked up. A bright blue Marill was floating in the water, looking concerned.
“I…” the Eevee started. “I don't know where I am.”
Marill frowned. “Well, there's a village nearby. I can take you there, and maybe someone there can help you get where you're going?”
“Um… okay. Sounds good.” The Eevee frowned also. Where were they going anyway? Where had they been? They couldn't form a memory beyond the sound of someone screaming.
“So, what's your name?” Marill asked, popping out of the water.
Eevee blinked, suddenly at a loss. Marill eyed them, waiting.
After a long time of thinking, it finally came to them. “Blanche.”
“I’ve never heard a name like that before,” Marill commented. “I'm Poppy, by the way.” Poppy briefly pressed her nose to Blanche's in some kind of greeting.
Blanche glanced around the meadow and spotted two other Pokémon. They were both unconscious and collapsed on the ground. Poppy looked over where Blanche was staring and gasped. “Oh my… we should make sure they're okay!”
She darted towards the two Pokémon, and after some hesitation Blanche did too.
Up close it was easier to see what these Pokémon were; an average sized Pikachu and an enormous Growlithe. Blanche was the smallest of the four Pokémon.
Poppy started shaking the Pikachu gently. “Hello? Are you okay?” He groaned and started to stand up. His eyes were a crisp blue, and Blanche had a sudden feeling that she knew him.
He rubbed his eyes and looked around. “Where am I? What's going on?”
Well, Blanche thought, at least they weren't alone in all this confusion. Blanche shook the shoulder of the Growlithe.
She rolled over with a groan. “Five more minutes.” Something seemed to occur to her then, and she jolted awake. “What's going on?”
“Are you two okay?” Poppy asked them.
“My head is killing me,” the Pikachu responded, rubbing at his forehead with his paws. “What happened?”
“I don't know,” said the Growlithe. “I can't remember anything.” She reached up with a back paw to scratch behind her ear.
Poppy looked very concerned now. “What are your names?”
“Uh…. Spark.”
“Candela.”
“Well, you three,” Poppy said, “Let's get you to the village. Maybe someone there can help you guys figure out what happened to you.”
