“Eddie.” Buck says with a sniffle. He’s crying, Eddie thinks silently. His smile drops quickly, his emotions switching to concern. Something’s wrong.
“Buck? What’s going on?” he replies nervously.
The line stays silent for a few more beats, and Eddie’s heart starts to race at all the possibilities. He checks the time on his watch frantically. 9:47 pm. It’s Thursday, meaning Buck’s still on his 12-hour shift today. He must be at the station, he thinks. He’s about to call out his name again before Buck makes an audible swallow on the line before he speaks again.
“It’s…it’s Cap, Eddie. He’s… He’s dead.”
“Bobby’s dead.” Buck repeats a bit more firmly.
