Chapter Text
Cass has been constantly texting with Danny since Valentine's Day. She had pulled out a portable battery charger out of the Batcave, though she often posts up wherever the nearest plugin is to charge both it and her phone.
All of her brothers, except for Tim, enjoyed themselves every time they found her like that. Dick would tease her a little over falling for Tim's Mortal Enemy, and then suggest memes for her to send to him. Jason was just as likely to sit down next to her and read for a while as he is to tease her.
They are worried a little about whatever she is scheming as she frequently pulls Bruce aside for a quick talk.
All of her family is enjoying that Jason has been hanging around the Manor a lot more. He even has called Bruce "Dad" a couple of times, much to the older man's very subdued delight. Though they often find him simply reading the books that Jazz keeps sending him via one of his safehouses.
Danny and Jazz have been keeping Cass and Jason, respectively, updated on their research into ecto parasite.
Tucker has had to build Danny a custom external battery after the first day when Sam teased him over having run his phone out of charge three times that day. Over the couple of weeks since the date itself, Danny had been glued to his phone while Sam and Tucker have had a field day making fun of him.
Sam had even offered to get his dad's class ring re-engraved while Tucker's main joke is questioning her existence. He will either bring up her 'going to another school' or ask 'are we sure she doesn't live in Canada' which just makes Danny and Sam groan.
Jazz is the only person who knows about Cass who isn't teasing him about it. However he is sure that is because of her attraction to Cass' interpreter, Jason. He has helped her a little in the research, even taking her to the Far Frozen to consult with Frostbite. Though most of what she has been doing is sending him more and more books written by dead authors.
Danny sat down in class, one of the few times when he does put his phone away. Though he had just sent his girlfriend some memes and some of the new jokes Sam has came up with over his relationship.
Mr. Lancer was oddly late for class as he more often is already in the room waiting for the bell to signal the start of class. By the time he did arrive, they could hear him quietly talking to someone outside the room before entering.
"While a little late in the year, we have a new student." He begins as Cass walks into the room.
Danny is stunned a little and as Lancer continues introducing her, he signs, "What are you doing here?"
Lancer is saying, "Everyone this is Cass Weston, Wes' adopted sister. She will need a little assistance as she has a form of Mutism."
Cass replies to Danny, "I go here now."
Lancer stops talking as he notices the two teens signing to each other across the room, then states, "Mr. Fenton, I was not aware you knew American Sign Language."
Danny jerks a little and responds, "I was motivated recently to learn it."
Before anything more is said, Cass walks over with her backpack, and proceeds to glare at the random student sitting to Danny's left. After a second they gather up their things and move to the empty seat that would've been hers.
As she sits down Lancer, with a resigned look on his face, states, "Well at least this way you can act as translator for her in class. Maybe she'll help you focus on actually learning something."
He then mumbles something about teenagers before turning to the blackboard and starting class.
After that class is over, Sam and Tucker welcome Cass to Amity as she takes Danny's hand.
However 'Wes' shows up and asks, "Cass, can I speak to you privately for a moment?"
She nods and lets her brother pull her a short distance away, though both know they are still within Danny's earshot. Tim gives her a look when she won't move any further before just sighing and bringing his hands up to sign.
"What's going on? "
Cass just says, "Bored of remote classes."
Tim's hands move quickly as he asks, "I didn't ask for any help with my task."
"Here for myself, not helping you." She states.
Before Tim can do anything more, she looks at the clock and just turns to go back to Danny so they can go to their next class.
Danny asks her, "So what is your schedule?"
She hands him the paper listing her classes and watches his face as he realizes they share every class.
"What did you jack the school just to be able to spend all day with me?" He jokes.
She giggles a little at how true it is, but he then quietly says, "Tucker has been doing that for a while just so that me, him, and Sam all have the same ones."
As they enter the next classroom, the school's official interpreter greets her.
He signs as he talks, "Hello Miss Weston. I am Steve, your interpreter and I'll be translating the lessons for you."
Cass looks unsure at him, but Danny remarks, "She's just mute, not deaf, and I know ASL and can handle everything."
The man visibly relaxes but states, "I'll sit through this class then to confirm it. Will be good to get a couple classes in a row off but still get paid."
Danny just shakes his head at how little the adult seems to care about his job, but leads Cass to his desk where she once again scares off the person sitting next to him.
Once they've sat down he asks, "Did Jason not join you this time?"
Cass gives him a smile and answers, "He has other work back in Gotham, but will swing by once in a while."
"Jazz will be a little sad at that." He says and smiles back at her.
Once school lets out, Cass was about to go hang out with Team Phantom, but 'Wes' showed up again.
"If you guys don't mind, I need to escort my sister home." He states.
Cass sighs and says, "Meet up later?"
They quickly make plans for her to join them in doing homework and studying before they part ways.
Back at the safehouse, she explains, "I am here as Cass, not Black Bat or undercover. I find Danny cute and want to spend time with him."
Tim tries to argue, "But he's evil. I know that he isn't manipulating you, but he has to be doing something to the people of this town."
He doesn't wither when she glares at him while saying, "Speaking of your mission here. Batman is giving you until summer break to prove your theory."
When he tries to complain, she pulls out a letter that Bruce signed with exactly that on it.
She leaves after that to go spend time properly getting to know Danny and his friends.
