This is My Way of Loving You

Summary:

After a long day of work, Sevyn is just looking for some time to relax. With the slip of a few words, he finds himself instead being pampered by Hylix as he tries to fix the issue of frizzy and dead hair. Not that he minds.

Notes:

First story I've ever made that I finished! I'm so excited to start writing more oneshots and eventually post my own book called My Heart Belongs To The Sun. Everday I work out more kinks in the original storyline, so excited to share it with everyone eventually. For the time being though, enjoy my oneshot.

Work Text:

Laying in bed, their limbs entangled, Sevyn insisted on unwinding after his day in Hylix’s arms. Hylix was reading one of the new books he had bought at the nearby bookstore while Sevyn buried his head in the other’s chest. This had become a routine for the two, cuddling in a peaceful silence.

As Hylix leaned his head over to press a kiss onto Sevyn’s head, he smelt a familiar scent. Pausing for a moment, he leaned back.

“Have you been using my shampoo?” He gave a puzzled look.

“Um.. does it matter?” Sevyn mumbled as he shoved his face deeper into Hylix’s chest, completely blocking his face from view. His embarrassment growing ever present.

Hylix let out a sigh, “It’s meant for curly hair, Sevyn. It’ll screw up your hair even more than it already is.”

“It’s just shampoo Hylix, calm down would you?” The other gave a huff before turning his head to the side again. “Besides, my shampoo has recently begun giving me frizzy ends. I haven’t been bothered enough to buy a different one.”

“Hm. Frizzy ends?” Hylix pushed himself up off of the bed, leaving Sevyn to slide off of him with a groan as he flopped onto his back.

“What are you doing?”

“I have an idea to fix the frizzing, if you’d be down to let me help.”

“Alright.. We can fix it later then.” Sevyn leaned up from the bed. Looking at Hylix’s back, praying the other would just lay back down.

“Come on now.” Hylix beckoned softly as he shuffled off the mattress and began to walk towards the door. Sevyn gave an annoyed sigh but followed closely behind as they made their way towards the bathroom.

Hylix had Sevyn stand in front of him in the bathroom light to asses the damage. As he thought, Sevyn’s ends were totally fried. All that bleaching and dyeing had done a number on the hair. Running a hand through the strands, it felt like straw near the ends. His fingers even got caught on the hair a few times.

“Goodness Sevyn, we’re going to need to cut some off first.”

“Woah woah woah, I didn’t agree to a haircut.” Sevyn quickly spoke up, backing up by a step. He looked alarmed to say the least.

“Just the ends.” He reached back towards the hair, rubbing his thumb on the frays. Then, measuring with his hand, he showed how much they would need to cut off. Only about an inch. “You’d only need to cut about that much, everything else seems salvageable enough.”

Sevyn turned around to face the mirror, Hylix’s hand following to once again show the length needed to be taken off. “That’s not as bad as I thought..” Sevyn felt some of the anxiety calm. “Do you know how to trim hair, though?”

Hylix gave a nod, “You pick up a few things from modeling, including how to care for hair. Who knew?” He gave a shrug.

Sevyn turned around. “Alright, I am in your hands then..”

Hylix had grabbed a stool from the island in the kitchen and brought it to the bathroom. Having Sevyn sit on it as he collected the rest of the hair cutting materials he would need. A spray bottle, scissors, sheering scissors, comb, and a ton of clips.

Going through the hair first with a comb, Sevyn let out a light ‘ow’. There were shockingly a lot of knots in the hair. Hylix slowed down his motions, focusing on brushing through the ends of the hair, working his way up to the scalp.

For someone with such an attitude, you wouldn’t think they’d be this careful about another’s hair. Since the stool Sevyn sat on was facing the mirror, Sevyn used it to his advantage watch as Hylix focused. He wasn’t sure if it was the fact Hylix was brushing his hair and it felt nice or just that he was in a mood, but his heart felt softened by the view.

He silently admired Hylix’s patience and care for the next few minutes until Hylix’s eyes met his in the mirror. Hylix let out a light ‘oh’ before giving a tiny quirk of the lips. Sevyn gave a wide smile in return before awkwardly moving his gaze away from Hylix’s. He didn’t see the slight pink tinting Hylix’s cheeks as he continued to work.

Once all the knots were smoothed out and the comb flew by like butter in the hair, Hylix moved on to part two, the haircut. Spraying Sevyn’s hair lightly to dampen it, he ran the comb through it one final time before grabbing the scissors and starting to cut. In the span of five minutes, the floor was covered in small snippets of dark teal hair. The more hair that fell, the more worried Sevyn became that Hylix would cut off too much. Yet he stayed still and silent, allowing the other to work and trusting in him the best he could. Sevyn began fidgeting with his hands to relieve some of the anxiety.

“All done, with this part at least.” Hylix spoke softly as he brought the hair in the back up onto Sevyn’s shoulders, as he so frequently wore it. There was little to no difference in the length, Sevyn almost questioned if Hylix had cut it at all. The cut was clean and blended nicely into the rest of the hair.

“Huh.. You did a good job, Hyl.” Sevyn said, as he got up from the stool to take a closer look.

Hylix took this time to shuffle the stool back into the kitchen, feeling lucky they lived in a small apartment so the trip was short. He came back into the bathroom with a broom to sweep up the hair.

“Let me.” Sevyn offered and quickly swept up the dead hair, tossing it into the bathroom’s trashcan.

“Appreciated.” Hylix spoke before he pulled out a gel filled container from the cabinet behind the mirror. “I’m going to need you to wash your hair, then come to me when you’re done.”

“Oh?” Sevyn lifted his head from the floor to raise an eyebrow at Hylix. Looking at the gel container, he took it and read the label. “A hair mask?”

Hylix gave a light nod. “Something that was gifted to me recently by a colleague. Unfortunately it doesn’t work with my hair type. I’ll put this in your hair once you’re done washing.”

And with that they went their separate ways. Hylix made his way to the spare room that he had made into an art room for himself. He had been working on a large project recently, a massive six foot oil pastel painting. Work is never done with that man. Sevyn on the other hand closed the bathroom door and started up his shower.

About thirty minutes later, Sevyn shuffled his way into his respective room, changing before meeting Hylix inside the art room. Hylix had oil pastel stains from his hands to his forearms, completely covered in it. If Sevyn didn’t know any better, he would think Hylix was just drawing on his arms for the fun of it.

“Wow, that’s really coming together now, isn’t it?” Sevyn interrupted the silence.

Hylix looked like he had almost jumped twenty feet if he hadn’t been near a very touchy art piece, his eyes wide as his head whipped towards Sevyn’s direction. Sevyn, amused, awarded Hylix with a light laugh. The ginger stayed silent for a moment, collecting himself before responding.

“I am just about done with it, though this arm here looks a bit wonky..” He pointed to one of the many arms sketched onto the paper. Hylix gave a sigh before putting the oil pastel in his hand back in it’s box. It had snapped in two by his sudden scare. Hylix grimaced at the pastel before looking back up at Sevyn, who had moved a little closer.

“I think it looks good the way it is. Don’t be too harsh on yourself.” Sevyn offered Hylix a shoulder pat or two before smiling. They stayed like that in silence for a moment before Hylix shrugged, a light ‘hm’ escaping his lips. Sevyn could tell Hylix wasn’t convinced, but there was only so much he could do.

Deciding to change the topic, Sevyn brought attention to his now damp hair. Running a hand through the strands, he spoke up, “My hair feels a bit better, the cut alone sure helped a lot!”

“Oh yea? That’s good to hear. Let’s get that hair mask on you then.”

Hylix took one final look at his art before moving out of the room and back into the bathroom. He was well aware Sevyn was capable enough to put the hair mask on by himself, but he would be a liar if he said he didn’t enjoy playing with Sevyn’s hair. It was one of his many discrete ways of showing affection.

Making their way back into the bathroom, Hylix had Sevyn fetch the stool once more. Once Sevyn was situated on the stool, Hylix opened up the gel container and began to scoop some of it’s product out and onto the other’s hair. It’s lotion-like texture makes Hylix cringe, yet he pushes forward and begins massaging it into Sevyn’s scalp slowly. At least Sevyn seemed to be enjoying himself, leaning into the touch slightly as his eyes fought to not shut.

After about ten minutes, the gel was spread evenly around Sevyn’s hair. Hylix backed away to wash the remaining gel off of his hands, feeling as if he couldn’t fully wash off the texture.

Sevyn’s eyes pealed open, feeling well rested even if he hadn’t slept. “Oh. Are we done?” He mumbled as he lifted his head from the chair, gazing back at Hylix.

Hylix was in the middle of wiping his palms off with a hand towel. “Mhm, leave it in for twenty minutes, then you can rinse it out. It should make your hair feel much smoother.” He set the towel down on the sink again before departing from the bathroom. Sevyn tagged along.

They hung out in the living room, watching an episode from one of their favourite TV shows together before Sevyn had to wash out the hair mask.

It took about fifteen minutes for Sevyn to fully wash out the greasy gel from his hair, but his hair felt so much softer afterwards. A good trade-off if you ask him. After blowdrying it, he could tell the mask had done a wonderful job at taming the frizz as well.

Feeling a bit more confident about himself, he skedaddled back out into the living room where Hylix was situated. Leaning onto the arm of the couch, a mischievous grin plastered on his face. Invading Hylix’s personal space was one of his favourite pastimes, and once again he found himself bothering the other for no reason at all.

“Hey!” Hylix called out as he found his face caught between strands on blue hair. “Piss off!”

Hylix had been in the middle of reading such an interesting scene, yet he found himself ambushed by the rodent he called a boyfriend. The other, now lying in his lap as if he owned it, looked satisfied enough as he made himself comfy. Hylix was left to just sneer silently at the man below.

“I swear, a dog might have more manners than you at times.”

“Yet you stick with me.”

Hylix rolled his eyes as he slided the book to the left, effectively hiding Sevyn’s face. A silence crossed over the two of them for a good five minutes. A light mood shifting in place of the original annoyance, until it was rudely interrupted by a growl of a stomach, followed by a light cough from the ginger to cover up the sound.

“Em.. Do you have the time?” Hylix pondered, his voice giving way to his embarrassment. He put down his book on the side to gaze down at the other.

“About.. Twenty minutes to nine if I remember correctly.”

“Alright, thank you.” Hylix gave a second of silence before continuing, “How do you feel about heading out to eat tonight?”

“That sounds nice, any places in mind?”

“There had been a new restaurant that opened up recently. It’s a short walk away.”

“Sounds good to me.”

And with that, they both left the house.
