Notes:

It's been a while but this story kind of popped up in my head the other day. Just want to see what people think. Chapter is kind of short, but I was just trying to set up the story.

Chapter 1: chapter 1

Chapter Text

August 25th, New York City.

When twenty-eight-year-old Lexa Woods came to work this morning, she was not expecting to get a new case quite like the one she received. She woke up like it was any other day, her alarm went off at 6:30 am like it always did. She got up and went for her morning jog like she did every day and afterwards she went home showered and got dressed and got ready for work. On her way to work she stopped at her favorite coffee shop and ordered her usual large coffee with three cream and two sugars as well as a breakfast sandwich.

On her way through the door, she smiled and said good morning to her assistant Maya and made her way through the inner door to her office. Lexa noticed that her partner and best friend Anya was already in for the day sitting at her desk on the left side of the room.

"Good morning." Lexa said to Anya as she sat down at her desk on the opposite side of the room.

"Morning." Anya replied to her as she continued to read the newspaper.

"I'm surprised you got here this early didn't you have a date last night?"

Anya looked up with a questioning look, "I did but what's that got to with being here on time?"

"Well, you know I kind of figured you would've had a late night." Lexa said while she looked in the other direction.

Anya smirked, "You know, I don't sleep with every single date I have."

Lexa looked up, "That's surprising, you do kind of sleep around a lot."

"Hey, fuck you alright, Monroe was cool, but it just wasn't going anywhere, she was more worried about her ex."

"I see, well that sucks." Lexa laughed as Anya flicked her off.

Maya came through the door just then, "Good morning, Miss Woods and Miss Smith, we have a possible new case this morning." Maya looked down at her notes and read, "A Mrs. Griffin is here to discuss her daughter with you."

"Very well then, Maya please show her in." Lexa said as she started putting on a serious face and stepped up from her desk to greet Mrs. Griffin.

A moment later Maya was leading a middle-aged woman through the door, Lexa walked over to the woman with her hand out and shook hands with Mrs. Griffin.

"Hello Mrs. Griffin, I'm Lexa Woods and this is my associate, Anya Smith." After shaking hands with Lexa, the woman moved her hand over and shook Anya's hand.
Lexa then gestured Mrs. Griffin to have a seat at the coffee table they had set up in-between their desks. Once everyone was settled, Mrs. Griffin on one side and Lexa and Anya sat on the other, and Maya went back out to grab some water for Mrs. Griffin.

"So, Mrs. Griffin, what can we do for you?" asked Lexa.

The middle-aged woman with long brown hair looked up at the two of them and took a big breath. "You can call me Abby, I'm here to discuss a missing person, my daughter, Clarke."

This was different, Lexa usually didn't deal with missing person cases, she mostly investigates scandals, cheating husbands, money gone missing that sort of thing. But the natural cop in her was instantly intrigued.

"Did you file a report with the police?" asked Lexa.

"Of course I did, but they are giving up."

"How long has she been missing?" asked Anya.

"Two years now."

Lexa looked at Anya and Anya looked back at her.

"Abby, I'm not sure if there is much, we can do about this, if you have already filed a report to the police." said Lexa but Abby cut her off.

"Miss Woods, the police have started to call off the search saying the trail has gone cold."

"Maybe the FBI can do something."

"No, no, no." Abby started crying. Anya stood up and sat over by Abby and held her hand. "The reason why I came here is because I know you two are former FBI agents and have ways to access information that the police force cannot."

"Abby, we don't work for the FBI anymore, we don't have access to stuff like that, maybe if you took this case over to them yourself." Lexa said.

"It's not good enough besides they already turned me away, saying it wasn't worth their time investigating a missing person who probably ran away from home."

Anya tried to say this as carefully as possible, "Maybe that's what happened."

"This is not like Clarke, we've never gone longer than two or three days without speaking to each other, something's wrong I can feel it."

Anya looked over at Lexa and Lexa thought long and hard about this, but she couldn't help but sympathize with the woman if front of her. With a determined look at Anya she asked Abby, "Tell us everything you know, start from the beginning."
