"You’re too good at this," Luca said, voice rough with admiration. "Saving me from my own impatience again."
Shu shrugged, a small, rare smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. "It’s my job."
"No," Luca said quietly, standing. Towering over Shu, he reached out, fingers brushing just barely over Shu’s hand before he caught himself and stepped back. "You’re more than that. You know that, right?"
Shu’s heart stuttered just once, just enough for him to feel it before he masked it behind a calm nod.
"I'm whatever you need me to be," Shu said.
