The Creature in my Husband's Reflection

Summary:

Grian has been a watcher for a long time now, he had made a partial peace with that fact now. He had to host the games and would join along to rebel against them. What he didn't have in mind was their plan that would ruin all that for him.

Chapter 1: The Trail of Deceit

Summary:

Grian and Scar had an unfortunate fight again, but this time when Grian comes back from cooling off he's far more different.

Notes:

haii first chapter i got inspired from some other fics i read and i really wanted to. incorporate that and this is an ongoing series unfortunately and i'll try to update regularly so at least once a week hopefully! +the tags will add more things and stuff

eextra minor detail is that scar's deadname is scarlett and this also takes place in secret life since i feel that season has all players closest to the watchers

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Grian and Scar had gotten into a fight the night before, Grian left to get space considering he was at Trader Scar's anyway. Scar was huffing about over the matter. He and Grian fought a lot lately, this time it was over something trivial but it was unavoidable. The server worked the night away until the sun began to rise.

In the morning Cleo, his mother came over to visit Scar. They were in a team with Grian and Etho, his father. Cleo came by to find Grian but Scar had told her that he left last night and assumed he went back to Etho's Shack. The two had small talk before Cleo waved him goodbye and left to go back to looking for Grian. It had been around midday when Grian had come around, despite not being at the shack he wasn't looking as disheveled as Scar was thinking, but the server is full of bases and teams so he could've just stayed with one of them.

Scar went over to him so he could apologise, thinking it was the more mature thing to do after what happened last night.

"Hey G! I wanted to say sorry about last night, it was a small matter and you were right about it. I was just being stubborn, I'm really sorry." Scar said as he waited for Grian's response. This should've set off alarms in his head already but apparently not.

"Err- Scarlett! Thank you, I was really tired last night so it just made me act out. I'm happy you were able to recognize your wrongs." Grian said as he examined the reaction on Scar's face. Scar stood there processing what had just happened. Scarlett? No one had called him that in ages, especially not Grian. Maybe he was just overthinking the whole thing because of the fight they had. It was strange how Grian didn't try to make Scar feel better about what happened too. Usually he tries to cheer him up and owns up to his wrongdoings as well but not this time?

"Look, Scar. I'm just feeling like I shouldn't be around you. Not right now anyway, I have things to do. Someone like you can understand right?" Grian said with a deadpan expression, his usually dark mysterious eyes glinting with something new, something different. He was being unbelievably out of character.

"Oh, I see. Well, have a good time!" Scar said as Grian retreated away from him, hoping that'd scare him off.

Scar brushed it off and went over to the Secret Keeper to get his task for the session. His task had said "Avoid Grian," he found it odd, it was a rather specific task from the Secret Keeper but it's not like you could argue with that. Besides, it doesn't seem too hard.

Scar saw Grian was making his way there with Etho and Cleo so he left, so he wouldn't fail his task already.

Etho, Cleo, and Grian had rolled for their tasks, they went off to read it to themselves. Grian opened his book and read the words on the paper. "Leave them alone, Xelphie." Grian glared at his task and shut the book, rolling his eyes. Joel had made his way there.

"Oh, hello Grian! Seems like you don't have a good task today?" He asked as he rolled for a task.

"No, I'm afraid not. Stay out of my way." Grian said as he walked away towards his retired egg shaped base. Joel watched as he left, looking puzzled towards his attitude, he opened the book and read his task. "Don't trust It," read the paper. What a joke of a task from this blooming Secret Keeper, Joel had thought as he left to go find his wife, Lizzie.

Void, it was easier said than done to cause trouble in this server. At least the targets were easy, Mister Mumbo Jumbo, Mademoiselle Pearl, Monsier Smallishbeans along with Solidarity, and most importantly the infamous Scarlett of Grian's dreams. What a feast to prepare, as good as it's outcome it'll take a lot of good work for this to happen. Grian should probably get a head start on his task It had made for itself, they just won't ever see it all coming. Every single player on here.

Grian was wondering while deciding his next moves as he came along and saw Etho and Scar. They were talking about something.

"Hello Etho, Scarlett." Grian said as he joined in on the little circle. Scar was left shocked yet again, what is up with Grian today? Was it his task?? But he had seen Grian get it after they talked in the morning. Speaking of tasks, Scar should be focused on his.

"Bye Etho and Grian have a good time!" he said as he ran off.

"Grian? I know I'm no yellow player but is calling Scar that your task?" Etho inquired with a stern, protective look on his face. Etho had been an absentee father mostly, but he still cared a great deal for both of his sons. The two of them are his little boys, despite not being so little anymore. He missed out on a lot but he made sure to be there for the big things, stuff that mattered to them both. He's even got a camping trip planned for them, he'll get them their own cabin and everything. Just the 3 of them and maybe a special guest.

"Calling her what?" Grian questioned as Etho looked at him with a face full of confusion, disgust? A lot of emotions but one thing was certain is that he shouldn't be doing it. Which makes the plan far more easier.

"You know the best out of all of us here that Scar doesn't go by that anymore. Nor does he feel comfortable with you doing- whatever you're doing. If it really is your task go and reroll, or just fail it. I don't think anything should be more important than respecting your friend's basic boundaries."

"Oh Etho, you're so easily persuaded and drifted, all by a few simple words too. By Scarlett no less. She's fooled the lot of you, huh? Everyone here, hasn't she? When will all of you learn." Etho glared at him as Grian's eyes glowed a shade of purple, there was something there. Something new, Etho never paid too much attention to Grian before, nevertheless his eyes. But he could notice something different.

"Don't do it Grian. Me and Cleo won't hesitate to kick you out." Etho threatened.

"You won't need to. I'm leaving, I don't need this team or either of you. You both are expendable." Grian said as he walked away, they were by the water and Etho had kicked a rock into the lake out of frustration. He watched the ripples from the stone lead towards Grian and It's reflection in the water. As soon as that the ripples had stopped and the reflection went back to normal. Etho's eyes widened as he began thinking about what the void happened to cause that.

The flowers and berries on the trail wilting away with each step he took. Thankfully to Etho, It's task became much easier to complete.

Scar and Bdubs were laying down in the field of sunflowers together. They have a habit of doing this once every session, whenever they can. They were one of Scar's favourite flowers. It follows the sun, in a way it's a bit romantic, needing and basking in the suns light to thrive. In a way the beautiful flowers reminded him of himself, him and his sun. Him and his beautiful winged Grian. He was truly a treasure to behold. Oh, Grian. Scar smiled at the thought of him. Maybe they could make up and spend the night today. He'd do anything for-

"Oh hey Grian!" Bdubs said, interrupting Scar's thoughts abruptly. Grian went to lay down right beside Scar, he couldn't even leave now. Oh void he is definitely failing his task now. But it's Grian, Scar had argued with himself internally, leaning over subconsciously and melting into him.

"Hey Bdubs, do you come by often?" Grian asks as an attempt of smalltalk, not too certain of how in character it might be.

"Oh yea yea no yea, I come by real often to hang out with Scar! I have to look out for him every now and then, to make sure he's not loosing his hearts too often. The difficult job of being a brother."

Grian let out a small laugh as Scar smiled ever so slightly. His sweet laugh, though it doesn't sound like his usually melodious carefree laugh it was still just as beautiful. He could drown in Grian, he was just so perfect. Just so irresistible, he just adored Grian, he loved him like no other. It was so sickening. He'd do so much for Grian.

"Bdubs, I hope you don't mind, me and Scarlett have something to do!" Bdubs raised his eyebrow as he thought to himself Scarlett??

"We do?" Scar looked around prior and silently accepted his fate of Grian constantly deadnaming him. He didn't recall him and Grian having something planned. Maybe it was a surprise for him? Oh that would be so romantic.

Bdubs left as Scar continued to melt into Grian. He smiled, a practiced smile. That was the one thing It had thought to perfect, aside from the voice. It certainly looks the part, it'll pay off, surely. Scar looked over at him and looked through his inventory to bring out a poppy and lilac he had collected earlier. If it was Grian, he'd have been ecstatic, but he wasn't. Scar never understood Grian's sentiment to those two types of flowers but he was in no place to judge his lover. They were beautiful.

"Oh Scarlett, you're so pretty. Just as how I left you." Grian whispered to him. Scar blushed, it felt like he was falling in love with Grian all over again. Minus the constant misgendering. He was so certain it's Grian's task but still. If Scar had a task like that he'd have rerolled or clicked fail the moment he got it, why wouldn't Grian? His lover of all people.

"Why are you calling me that?"

"You're so silly, my sweet sweet girl." Scar grew more distaste towards it, what had suddenly caused Grian to do all this? I'm sure his task wouldn't have been something so specific like this.

"G, please stop. I don't know what's gotten into you, but I'm just sick and tired of it." He said as he felt a finger on his lips, shushing him.

"Come on, let's go." Grian said and Scar watched as he got up and offered his hand. He felt nauseated taking the hand of Grian considering how he was acting so cold and cruel towards him of all people. It had lead Scar into Trader Scar's as they both snuck into the backroom, it was a lot more spacious and secluded than out in the open. Scar avoided looking at Grian but couldn't help but notice the odd reflection in the window as they passed by. It didn't look like Grian at all? How odd?

Notes:

smalllll note is that i made the. smaller bases (specifically trader scar's) way more spacious and liveable like a home with a bed and necessities and luxuries, like how etho's shack is. certainly not as huge or anything like his but far bigger than it is in actual secret life so there's more to work with in scenes and stuff🥹🥹 anyway i hope you all enjoyed the first chapter!
