Work Text:
“Oh yeah, I have a roommate but he is probably asleep.” Satoru.. why would you just bring another man in your apartment? I mean sure, Suguru also happened to bring by a friend maybe once or twice but usually it'd be announced, even if it was a short notice.
To be fair, it isn't that big of a deal. They got in the apartment together only because it was too hot outside.
That, until we remember how randomly Suguru gets possessive of Satoru.
“Huh, a roommate?” His friend remarked, soon smirked. As if he insinuated something.
“..yeah.. a roommate..” Satoru had quite a confused yet disgusted face but he decided not to address this situation any further.
“Suguru, we need to talk.”
“Mhm, we do. You go first.” Suguru played the oh so nonchalant and unbothered guy role, so careless – from Satoru's point of view.
“Do not get offended, but,” Satoru hesitated for a little bit, unsure of how to word this, “are you homophobic?”
Suguru didn't move an inch, didn't even blink, he seemed to be petrified – is he even breathing? He's as still as a rock. The question caught him off guard.
“No, why would I be?”
“Are you sure?”
“Are you insinuating im homophobic?”
They both get a little sweated, furious even. Who knows what this hell will escalate into.
“I wouldn't but you give me almost no choice! You always act like this whenever I bring someone over, and while this time I didn't tell you,” Satoru is starts to panic a little bit, he doesn't quite know what's come over him, he can only feel himself getting progressively angrier and he knows his face is turning red, “yet I don't think it is SO bad? I thought you were asleep.”
“So what were you planning on doing with him while I was asleep?”
“..play games on phones? Watch tv?” Satoru is clueless as ever and doesn’t quite understand what Suguru is beating the bush around for.
“What?”
“..what?”
“So like, no relationship, no nothing,.. no messing around or whatever?”
“What relationship? I and that guy are nothing.” Satoru is putting the pieces together very slowly and he can't help but put his hands in his head and remember the statement he made, “Wait, are you actually homophobic?” Sweetie.. you've asked that like four times now..
“No, I'm not..” Now it's Suguru's time to act clueless.
“Then why do you react like this and say all of this? Do you want to talk about it?”
“I don't know what there's to talk about.”
“I know you're dodging me, Suguru.. I know.” The brat in him is starting to escape, thankfully the tension has been lowered. “I know you,” and that's when he gets closer to Suguru on the couch and not only points a finger at the other man but he nudges Suguru, “better than anyone else.” And he offers that sweet smile that makes Suguru wish his heart will stop skipping beats in such instances.
Being so close? Being touched? Smiles? Satoru smiling sheepishly at him? Satoru doing everything he does?
“What are you teasing me for, now?”
“I'm not teasing you at all.” Yet Satoru's eyes now narrow a little bit while slightly smiling, climbing around the sofa. He yawns and stretches as he sits down at the other end of the sofa, his feet touching Suguru's thighs.
Oh and if that doesn't drive Suguru even crazier..
“I'm actually!” He takes a sharp breath as he stands up abruptly, almost making the sofa tremble, “Just!” Ooh easy now boy.. “You really are THAT oblivious?!" He himself doesn't know whether he is asking or accusing Satoru.
Satoru grows even more confused. His voice drops and he is almost afraid to ask.
“..of what?” He almost doesn't dare to look Suguru in the eyes.
And that's when he's met with a severely irritated look, if he's ever seen one.
Suguru knows back in his head that Satoru is ‘just like that’ and he can already feel the guilt pinching him on the inside. He takes a moment to take a deep breath and calm himself, scaring Satoru is like a nightmare to Suguru – and he's already living half of it.
His tongue feels heavier and he can't find his words to mutter a simple love confession – is it so simple to confess to your best friend since.. forever? All he knows is that his feelings never got easier, he always thought he had them under control – yet, his burning desire for Satoru made him act in various ways. One of the many things is how he became jealous, something Suguru never experienced before, he would swear he isn't a jealous guy.
“I like you.” Well, this was the easiest way out. Simple, clear, concise, straight to the point..
Satoru can't help but constantly look at Suguru, not being able to take his eyes off of him. He can't believe his ears – why? Maybe because he has the exact same confession to make.
But will it matter now? Will Suguru believe him? His confession back can't make this worse, at least it shouldn't.
Before Satoru manages to open his mouth, Suguru speaks again.
“I understand if you regret me being your roommate and best friend of so many years, only for things to turn out like this.” He was already imagining himself packing all of his bags and leaving, going far, far away. He almost wants the ground to swallow him whole because of this mess.
“I have the same feelings for you.”
Yet, what surprised them both right now wasn't the confession, but the door opening to Shoko coming in with bottles of alcohol and a few more people behind her. Oh.. right.
They planned a small party and forgot about it. What a timing this is.
Obviously there was no more time for personal feelings and worries anymore, they started playing music – very loudly. It was as if they needed excuses not to talk to one another right now.
They had a little bit of everything, any alcohol imaginable (Shoko's party trick), but it wouldn't be a good party without some games. They are far too dizzy to play something like cards or monopoly so they'll settle for something more.. menacing actually.
So many bottles, both empty and full. They form a circle around one bottle and in case you didn't catch it yet, they will play spin the bottle.
“Everybody knows the rules, am I right?” Shoko flipped her hair while eyeing a girl that was sitting somewhat across of her.
Everyone nodded and even waved a hand, just to get things going faster.
People have spun and kissed whoever it landed on and now, it was Suguru's turn. He was quite nervous knowing the events that have happened hours ago by now – yet he wanted to land on Satoru. There was a part of him hesitating at that thought due to the way they’ve found out about their feelings, and a part of him wanting to explore more of it.
As he spun the bottle he felt like everything was in slow motion, almost like the bottle wasn't moving fast enough and his lungs couldn't inhale enough air. But fear not, he had just enough air to gasp – he hoped the loud music covered his slip – the bottle has stopped, pointing at Satoru.
This will unfold either in a dream, either in a nightmare, and there's only way to find out.
He looked at Satoru trying to read his expression but all he could see was a very flustered guy, it suits him well, Suguru thought. He got slightly up, just enough to be able to reach for Satoru, leaning very closely into him.
And as he put a hand on Satoru's face, he sat still for a few seconds, waiting to see whether or not his friend would back away. He wouldn't force him, not after what has happened previously and clearly not after they've drank.
Satoru hasn't moved at all, instead, he looked like he was waiting, waiting like he was running out of time – hell, for a second, he wanted to pull Suguru in. But fear not, thankfully Suguru has actually finally decided to go in.
And while it was a really sloppy kiss, both of them enjoyed it quite a lot. So much that Suguru lost balance and tripped (while sitting on his knees, by the way), and fell on Satoru. But it was no party breaker, they just continued as they tried to get more to a side or a corner. Once to get away from the eye of the people and once for them to continue.
A few hours later, Satoru quietly walked out of the house, nobody saw him. He had his swimming shorts on and a tshirt, carrying a towel. He's napped a little bit and the alcohol has been eliminated pretty much by now.
The night was quiet and peaceful, nothing would make a noise until the breeze would eventually play with Satoru's strands of hair. It was oddly calming but a little overwhelming.
He took his slippers off as he got on the beach, towel on his shoulder and his shoes in his hand, the empty hand swaying in the air. His eyes were now blessed with waves that sounded like graceful and weightless melodies, the moon was casting glorious patches of light, lighting up the sand and the sea.
He tossed his stuff on a sunbed, took his tshirt off and took some rapid steps towards the sea. He stopped when his feet touched the cold sand that would get brushed by the water. Cold water embraced and challenged Satoru as it reached his ankles, now knees, then thighs alongside his shorts.
The water was much colder than it is in the afternoon or evening, of course, but this was so much more worse than he expected. He stood in the same spot, water up to his waist, until he was accommodated.
He started splashing water on himself, on his arms, chest and face, things that made him slightly giggle to himself. He finally got his courage to dive, he went on his tippy toes and jumped in, underneath the waves.
He swam further, now his feet were barely touching the sand beneath him, his shoulders being gently brushed by water. Satoru sunk himself every now and then, his scalp uncontrollably cold.
Through some dives and spontaneous swimming sessions, he felt a string on his neck and in the next heartbeat a stone touched his lips right when he got his head out of the water. He wore Suguru's necklace.
Satoru heard some splashes behind him, the waves hitting another body now. Speak of the devil, a tall and muscular figure with long and dark hair was making his way over to him. He didn't know how he felt about this, knowing the previous events.
“So,” Suguru was close to Satoru but not quite in reach, “say, what are you doing here, pretty boy?” he raised his eyebrow and a smile was tugging at the corner of his lips.
Satoru was quite flustered by what he just got called, but he couldn't have that show. “Having fun.” quite… not so creative.
“Without me?”
Suguru had to shoot back, the fact that he shot back harder was another part of the story. His facial expression wasn't of much help - a raised eyebrow with a smirk.
“Yeah, jealous?” Satoru said as he spat out some water.
Shit, that was hot Suguru thought. The way Satoru swiftly turned his head, the way his hair bounced and the way the necklace - one of Suguru's necklaces - jumped with each movement and splashed water around. The moon that was casting soft shadows atop Satoru only made it better.
A smile was challenging Satoru, but he couldn't fall for it. He had to keep playing the game.
“Maybe.” Suguru inched closer as his friend lightly let his back fall on a crashing wave, now Satoru’s arms and legs working extra so he can get behind, creating a little space. Not that he exactly minded being close to Suguru, but he didn't know what else to do.
Suguru was still making grand steps, eyeing his friend eagerly. It didn't take much until their eyes caught one another's.
Satoru was going further and further into the cold sea, where sky and water meet. It's night, it's dark and cold, the wind only makes the waves mad. Waves that could both pull at Satoru, and waves that could also push him.
Fortunately enough, just so he doesn't inch further into the wild sea, a wave flips him – heck, he even did a tumble underwater, onto Suguru. The back of his head hits his chest, he quickly flatters his arms so he can get back on his feet, that wave got him real good.
“Whatsup?” Suguru giggles as their bodies touch, quite a warm feeling compared to the cold water. They are barely getting used to it, but can you really blame them?
Satoru ignored the comment, or, rather the question. He dunked himself one more time, the cold water hugged his scalp and white hair, then when he finally pushed himself out, he tried to jump over a wave so he wouldn't get flipped again and then turned to face Suguru.
He wanted to say something, he knew why Suguru came after him. But he wasn't gonna start this conversation as he had no intent to remember what happened in the past days. So, what could he do? Splash.
And he splashed even more water at his friend. Once, twice..
Suguru plunged, and before Satoru could figure where he was, he felt his ankles being held quite firmly. In the next heartbeat? He was underwater, his back and head now brushing the soft sand beneath.
After what felt like hours, when they got exhausted and decided to stop splashing water like there’s no tomorrow, they finally got to shore.
“Say, why'd you leave the beach house with no word?” Suguru asked, just when Satoru thought this would be over or forgotten.
“What, now I have to give you explanations?” he snorted.
“No, but,” Suguru stopped and he looked up at the sky, looking at the stars hoping he could find his words shining atop and guide him.
Satoru laid back fully on the sunbed, looking at the back of Suguru's hair. Letting him take his time, whatever his reason might be. He was contemplating whether or not to press a little or really just wait until Suguru sits and thinks it out fully.
Eventually Suguru sighed, he came so far and now he couldn't just drop it now, especially knowing Satoru would be annoying him to death to hear it.
“It's the thing from yesterday and, “ he was getting nervous, “..and what we both said to one another earlier.. I don't know. All that fight and then,” he took a deep breath, he knows he is speaking non-sense, “our confessions, I guess, they all flipped me over real bad.”
Satoru looked like he was deep in thoughts, he couldn't figure out if it was their drunken kiss or the things he has accused Suguru of.
At this point Satoru wanted to just vanish. Nothing has been going his way and now he felt like he and Suguru were on two different pages again. He just turned his head to face his friend and looked at him still. Unphased.
Suguru felt his blood rush for a reason or another. He could speak or even act. But the last time he acted – it didn't end exactly well.
“I didn't intend to make you uncomfortable when I drunkenly kissed you,” he swallowed nothingness as he bit his lip. He knows that they both have confessed but it all was so messy, and then, all that other stuff that happened at the so called party.
“..you didn't make me uncomfortable, I just didn't expect you to actually kiss me.”
“I wasn't about to back away and not do the dare of the bottle.”
“The bottle that spun and picked me or the bottles of alcohol we've had?” Satoru started laughing very loudly and lively. What a sight.
Suguru couldn't help but want to kiss him again, yet he sat back and smiled while looking at Satoru.
But, he's in for a surprise, this is Satoru after all. He inches closer, there's not a lot of distance between them, so why not close it?
Satoru carefully got closer and put one hand on Suguru's face, hovering his lips over the other man's, waiting for him to pull back or continue. Yet, before he got the memo to go in, Suguru went in closer to close that little gap between them.
Well, who's got the surprise now..
“I used to dream of stuff like this.” Suguru could barely contain his happiness and excitement anymore, but Satoru wasn't too far off either.
