Work Text:
Though the January of two years ago never would have believed it, his favourite time of day was early in the morning; that odd liminal space between waking and dreams, no responsibilities and no masks. Just River and January, and the warmth of their bodies. He could stay here forever, pretend that they were the only two on Mars—
“Christ’s actual sake,” January grumbled, rolling over to silence the alarm emanating from his smartphone.
“Five more minutes can’t hurt,” River decided under their breath, pulling January tighter against their chest. January hummed contentedly, letting himself drift gently back to sleep.
