Chapter Text
Mikey was pregnant, and Pete was ecstatic.
Pete hadn't always known he wanted to be a dad. Heck, he used to think he shouldn't be a dad, thought he was too messed up to be a good parent. That all changed when him and Mikey were looking for their very first home together. Pete had owned other houses in the past, moving from place to place, but he was ready to settle down with the love of his life. It was at a random house showing in upper New Jersey when their realtor; Haley, asked how many rooms they wanted and if they were planning on "expanding the family" Honestly Pete hadn't given much thought to that since before he could watch the sun shine off his husband's wedding band. But now he had thought about it and couldn't stop.
Pete tossed and turned in him and Mikey's bed that night; trying to focus on anything other than the concept of becoming a father. Pete knew sleep was futile by now so he tried counting the notches in the bedpost across from him, but it was too dark to see.
Mikey took notice that Pete was being even more restless than usual and called out to him from the other side of the bed; "Babe, what's wrong? Come lay with me."
Pete scooted over to Mikey and into his open, waiting arms before answering "Nothing's wrong I just can't sleep..."
"Peterpan you and I both know that's not true." whispered Mikey, his eyes locked on Pete as if staring hard enough would unlock the secrets he was looking for.
"I keep thinking about what Haley said earlier. About If we were planning on expanding the family, I guess I hadn't really thought about it before but now that I have I can't stop. Sorry that's probably stupid-" muttered out Pete, fear lacing his voice.
"Pete, honey, that isn't stupid. Truth is I've been thinking about it too, about what it would be like to raise something-no-someone together. Pete if that's what you want then i'll be here for you every step of the way" Mikey said quickly, rushing to comfort Pete.
Pete and Mikey closed on the house with a nursery, hopeful that someday they could sit in that small room with their own adorable little ball of joy in-between them.
What Pete and Mikey didn't realize was that "someday" would come sooner than they thought.
