Johnny Storm doesn't usually go out for food after a day of fighting bad guys, he doesn't invite his crime fighting partners to hang out after patrolling all night, he doesn't take the elevator, and he definitely doesn't get shy but with Spiderman, those things don't seem to be the case. He has that effect on him and now, they're both stuck in an elevator.
He and Spiderman had quickly become unlikely best friends a couple months ago when Johnny accidentally walked into one of Spiderman's fights. Johnny of course had to show off how he wasn't just a damsel in distress and the two had good chemistry, when fighting side by side and when they weren't. Johnny had fought with many superheroes but he didn't click with any like Spiderman. Spiderman was charming, witty, charismatic and one of the coolest superheroes he's ever seen.
After a couple weeks the pair began patrolling the city at night together. They fought everyone and anyone doing wrong in New York, petty criminals to actual super villains, nothing the pair wasn't used to. They also talked a lot, mainly on top of the Statue of liberty while waiting for something interesting to happen. Spiderman knew what it was like to be a young hero, he felt like Spiderman understood a part of him that no one else could. But the best thing was they could also have fun together, the two of them clicked unlike anyone else Johnny knew.
“I'm hungry” spidey said after they fought yet another perp trying to steal a purse, “Beating up idiots works up an appetite”
“Me too” johnny said, “sue, reed and Ben just left for some science convention so I haven't had dinner"
“Aww pretty, rich boy needs someone to cook for him” Spidey teases.
“I am a great cook for your information, and thanks for the compliment” he winks at Spidey.
“No- that not- no” Spidey splutters, very flustered.
“We could go get something, our patrol is just over?” Johnny says after his laughing fit subsided.
“I know the best pizza place ever, let's go there!” spidery says
Johnny agrees enthusiastically “i love pizza”
“Me too , I would die for some right now” Spidey says, beginning to head in the direction of the pizza place.
After they got their pizza the sun had begun to rise, they walked through Manhattan towards the Baxter building, as the streets began to bustle with people as they rushed to work and school. They arrived at the famous home of the fantastic four and got in the elevator as Johnny pressed the button to get up to the penthouse.
“Why can't we just use our powers to get up there?” Johnny questioned as the elevator began to go up. “You can make webs and I can literally fly”
“What if i drop the pizza, and also i want to get the full fantastic four experience, see how you've been living all these years”
Johnny rolls his eyes while Spidey laughs. “ I literally never take the elevator”
Just then the elevator jolts to a stop. They both clutch each other to avoid falling over, which made things worse because they both toppled onto the floor one onto the other, dropping the pizza box in the process.
“fuck” Johnny said, trying to process what happened.
“THE PIZZA!” SApidey shouted into essentially Johnny's ear, he looked around to see the pizza stuck to the wall of the elevator.
Johnny immediately became aware of how Spidey was on top of him with his hands above his shoulders. Spidey hasn't even noticed being too focused on the pizza. He felt his face flush and tried to get out a sentence with stuttering, which definitely failed.
“Um sp-spidey you're kinda on top of me” he muttered trying not to make eye contact.
Johnny wasn't the type of guy to get nervous around anyone, but for some reason Spidey made him feel different.
“Oh sorry i was mourning our pizza” he laughed while crawling off Johnny. “Is there a call button or a help button in here?”
“Yeah but Reed made this shit crazy secure so he’s the only one able to disable the shut down mechanism”
“Can you call him or something?” he asked like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“He's not here,” Johnny said, realising that the other members of f4 were going to be gone for another few hours. “Hes in dc for a science thing”
“Shit, and we can't even eat our pizza. I'm starving and of course the one time you use the elevator it shuts down with no one to fix it "Spidey said, settling down to sit beside Johnny against the wall of the elevator.
Johnny turned on his phone to send a text to sue. “COME HOME!! EMERGENCY!!”
Johnny showed the text to Spiderman, “This should get the message across”
Spiderman laughed and the sound made him feel warm which was odd, maybe it was the fact that he was sitting beside him with their shoulders touching and he got an overwhelming whiff of Spideys scent which smelled surprisingly good for guy who spent the whole night beating up bad guys, but Johnny quickly pushed those thoughts away.
“How come the security is so intense here?” Spiderman questioned.
“Reed is terrified of idiots like you sneaking in” johnny replied smugly
“Why would Dr Richards be scared of me? I'm sure he'd love me.” Spiderman replied like he knew something Johnny didn't, which wasn't a feeling Johnny enjoyed.
“If you say so” Johnny responded sarcastically.
Spiderman chuckled to himself.
“I need to ask you something very important," Johnny said, suddenly very serious.
Spiderman nodded.
“When do I get to see your face?” Johnny teased. Secretly he really wanted to see him, he was curious by nature but this was his best friend and he had never seen his face.
“I could show you now” Spidey replied, johnny felt his heart speed up “but then i’d have to kill you”
Johnny should've seen this coming. Spiderman hasn't been serious a day in his life.
“Scared, your ugliness will kill me?” Johnny teased trying to encourage Spidey to prove him wrong.
“How dare you, the real reason is I'm so handsome I'd make you jealous.” Spidey teased back without missing a beat.
“I don't think that's true, but even if you were ugly I wouldn't mind, your personality makes up for it” Johnny said trying to be sincere.
“I'm not ugly, i'm incredibly handsome” Spidey said smugly.
“Oh yeah?” johnny replied equally smug, “prove it to me”
“Maybe I will,” Spidey said, inching closer to Johnny. Reaching up to pull off his mask.
Oh.
Johnny was wrong, so wrong.
Spiderman wasn't ugly, at all. He was gorgeous.
Johnny couldn't think of what to say. Spideys looked like his face was carved by the gods. His jawline and cheek bones were perfectly defined with a dusting of freckles across his rosy cheeks and he had the most beautiful brown eyes.
“So?” Spidey asked, sounding nervous all of a sudden.
“I was wrong,” Johnny said, barely louder than a whisper.
The two heroes felt the distance between their faces slowly getting smaller. Johnny looked down at Spidey's lips and they were inches away. The tension was killing him. Johnny was about to kiss Spiderman, his best friend.
All of a sudden, the elevator door opened and the two jumped apart.
“JOHNNY!!”
“Uh oh” johnny swallowed “ I probably should've explained it wasn't a real emergency”
“You can't just text us saying you have an emergency every time there's a slight inconvenience” Sue scolded “Oh hi, I didn’t see you there” Sue said noticing the other guy in the elevator.
“Hi” Spiderman replied awkwardly, face flushed red.
Reed strolled towards the elevator “I fixed it, there was a fault in the building” he explained even though Johnny didn't care. “Hi Peter, how are you?”
Johnny head shot around to look at Spiderman.
“Hi Dr. Richards, I'm good,” Spiderman replied, going a darker shade of red.
“This is Peter Parker, the amazing intern we had last year." Reed told Sue. "What are you doing here so early? I didn't know you knew Johnny." Reed questioned, seemingly oblivious to the fact that Peter was extremely embarrassed and also Spiderman.
Sue and Reed got in the elevator and the four of them went up the penthouse apartment where they live. Sue kept staring at Johnny and Peter, with a confused expression, like she was trying to figure something out.
Finally after the most awkward minute of his life they had reached the top floor. Johnny rushed Peter to his room before Sue could ask or say anything embarrassing. The two sat down on the bed still in their suits. There was something unspoken between them and neither of them wanted to bring it up first.
“Earlier, we were kinda interrupted…” Peter said nervously, phrasing it like a question. “I just want to make sure it wasn't a mistake or anything”
Johnny wasn't sure how to respond, he knew why Spiderman was asking. Did it mean something or not? Before it happened everything felt right, righter than anything else ever had. Spiderman had become his best friend over the last few months, but what if they were more? Johnny’s thoughts were racing through his head when he was interrupted.
“I'm sorry, never mind, ill go” peter said getting up to go
“Oh shit” Johnny thought, he had been thinking about what to do for so long he forgot to actually do something.
So, he did what felt right.
He stood up, grabbed Peter's hand and pulled him into him. Their lips finally met and the kiss was gentle but perfect. The two pulled away and looked at each other.
“I've made a lot of mistakes, but you Peter Parker, were not a mistake.”
Peter smiled, and Johnny thought just how handsome he really was.
“Can we please get some rest now?” Peter asked.
“Yes absolutely” Johnny replied, as the two practically dived into the bed.
When they woke up in the evening, after their day long nap, the two were intertwined under the covers.
