Work Text:
Sekh leaned back into his chair, sighing out a slow breath. He'd woken up feeling ill that morning, and while it had subsided by midday, he felt exhausted already and he's accomplished none of the things on his to-do list. As it was, Gohma was outside setting up his latest plant bed- which Sekh should have been able to do despite the swell of his belly.
He settled his hand on it, rubbing idly. He knew he was lucky to not experience morning sickness or that debilitating fatigue he'd heard folks discuss came with pregnancy often- but it didn't make the moments when it overtook him less pleasing.
He let his eyes fall shut, listened to the quiet house around him. Quiet, until he heard the front door open- not nearly enough to be Gohma slipping inside- and the sound of small footsteps rushing into the room. He cracked an eye open just to see Sea'an climb up onto the couch next to him, his little hands grasping at Sekh's arm.
"Hi Sea shell," he said, and watched the boy smile with utter abandon. His white hair was tussled from being outside, the finest patches of ginger highlights showing. They’d only started showing once the boy was a few years old- he’d been all snowy white hair like Gohma until then. Sekh swore they grew more prominent when the boy spent time in the sun. "Did dad send you in?"
Sea'an nodded. "He said he needed your seeds and that I should be quiet because you might be sleeping and I was but you're awake so I don't have to be quiet!"
Sekh laughed, reaching across his body to brush back the boy's hair. It was even warm from the sun. "Why does your father want the seeds?"
"He said you'd be too tired to plant the wis...whiz...wips…"
"Wispweed," Sekh helped, and Sea nodded, looking very serious.
"That! Dad said you'd be tired and he should do it."
Sekh chuckled, shaking his head. He'd agreed to let Gohma set up the plant bed but no more, and he couldn't leave the planting to Gohma as well. He was feeling fine as it was-
He shifted to push himself up, when he felt a very subtle movement, in his belly. He paused, still as stone, holding his breath and wondering if he had imagined it.
Sea'an looked at his father quizzically, "Da?" The moment the boy spoke Sekh felt it again- a faint, gentle kick.
The first time he'd felt this baby move.
He grinned, leaning back, giddiness rising up in him. "Sea shell, give me your hand." Sea'an offered his small hand and Sekh took it, placing it gently on his belly. The moment he did, the baby kicked again, right against Sea'an's hand. The boy's red eyes went wide as saucers, his mouth falling open. "That's your little brother or sister," Sekh said, as the boy whispered woah beneath his breath.
He shuffled closer, his other hand going to Sekh's belly as well, as the front door opened. "Sea'an?" Sekh heard Gohma call quietly, as he walked through the kitchen, appearing in the archway to the living area. He paused, looking at his lover and their son, and Sekh utterly grinned at him.
"Come here abbil," he said, reaching out a hand. Gohma walked to him, let Sekh take his hand and place it gently on his belly. As if knowing another presence was there, the baby shifted against Gohma's large palm, clearly kicking. Gohma's eyes went wide, a smile growing on his face, as Sea'an leaned closer.
"Dad said that was the baby!" He said loudly, the same sort of wonder on Gohma's face reflected on the boy's. Gohma simply nodded, his eyes moving to Sekh's. He swore his lover's eyes were shimmering.
Sekh hadn't felt the baby move until that moment. He had felt Sea'an moving fairly early- something the healer in the closest town had been shocked by, considering it had been Sekh's first pregnancy. And while they had been assured that it wasn't strange that Sekh hadn't felt movement yet, Sekh knew they both had been anxious.
Gohma leaned forward as Sea'an giggled, the baby kicking gently at his hand, and pressed an affectionate, soft kiss to Sekh's lips. Sekh smiled against his mouth, barely able to even kiss, before Gohma rested his forehead against his, the hand not on his belly moving to brush back along his ponytail. "I'm so… proud of you, alurlssrin," he whispered, and Sekh brushed his nose against Gohma's.
"Why? It took both of us to get here." Gohma flushed gently but laughed, as Sea'an got up on his knees, his hands moving from Sekh's belly now that the baby had calmed and holding onto his arm.
"Did I kick you too dad? Did it hurt?" Sekh turned his head, got his arm around Sea'an and pulled him into a hug.
"You did Sea'an, you kicked a lot."
"You never sat still," Gohma mused, reaching over to tussle his son's hair, his eyes melting with such love Sekh felt his heart strings tangle. He had never seen someone look at a child with the adoration and reverence that Gohma looked at their son with.
It was as if Gohma envisioned Sea'an as the first raindrop he had seen, upon leaving the Underdark. A precious gift he had waited centuries for.
Sekh squeezed Sea tighter. The first time he'd felt his oldest move it had woken him up in the middle of the night. He remembered frantically waking up Gohma-
He remembered shared tears.
"Maybe they're shy," Sea'an said, leaning his head on Sekh's shoulder. Before either of his dads could chime in, he continued, "Don't worry baby, you're safe here."
Sekh shared a brief glance with Gohma, before his partner moved and scooped up Sea, tossing him up over his shoulder. Sea'an laughed, holding onto his father, as Gohma carried him back towards the front door, saying something about there still being work to do.
Sekh stood up himself, moving for the door to the basement. He was feeling well enough to get the wispweed seeds and join his little family outside, to enjoy a bit of the sunshine.
