Ok but hear me out:A scenario in which John and Bucky are already in a relationship and things are going great for a while, but Bob loses control of the void again and John gets caught up in it. There, he sees Bucky with Steve, happy, smiling, and kissing, and when Bucky sees John, he says:
"Did you really think I loved you? You're nothing. Just a substitute. Steve is a real man, and you? You'll never be enough." Obviously, it's a hallucination in which the void uses John's insecurities to torture him, and he knows that Bucky would never say something like that to him. John repeats to himself that what he is hearing and seeing is not real, but shit gotta hurt like a mf.
