Summary
Kaori’s eyes well up again. “Yeah,” she says, voice wobbling. She grabs Yukie’s hand again, her grip bruising. Yukie holds on just as hard. “Yeah, Yukie. You’re going to be amazing.”
Yukie’s will breaks, and she begins to sob into her bowl.
“Oh, no! Please stop,” Kaori cries, sniffling as tears stream down her cheeks.
“No, you stop,” Yukie warbles back. She scrubs hard at her face, feeling the weight of a certain truth hit her and Kaori at the same time:
They’re growing up.
A few weeks before graduation, Yukie and Kaori share a meal to celebrate the future.
