The penthouse was quiet that morning, golden sun beams shining through the floor to ceiling windows onto the open floor plan. Zoey, Rumi, and Mira sat at the kitchen bar, munching on cereal in companionable silence.
Until a flutter of wings and a soft thud sounded through the kitchen. The trio shared a glance before looking across the counter to find Sussie of all people parading around a spilled box of cereal, trilling softly.
With a side-long glance at the idols, he begins to peck at the strawberry yogurt coated granola, picking the perfect piece to toss into the air and catch in his beak. He squawked happily, tongue sticking out, before hunting for his next morsel.
“Um… Do Spirit birds even need to eat?” Zoey asked, fascinated with the magpie.
“You feed Derpy table scraps, so I don't see why not. It's probably a taste thing,” Mira replies, giving their girlfriend a small, knowing smirk. Rumi just chuckles into her bowl.
After breakfast the girls retreat to their rooms to get ready for their day ahead. They had a mid lunch meet and greet with fans, a mid day fashion show, and a concert to perform that evening.
Mira sat in her room at her vanity, hair in her classic ponytails, makeup bold but tasteful, carefully sifting through her jewelry box. Sussie came flying into her room, phasing through the closed door as if it weren't there to land on her shoulder. He chirped and gently pecked at her gold diamond stud in her earlobe.
“What? You don't like them?” Mira asked cooly, eyeing the bird in the mirror.
Sussie sighed and walked down her arm to the jewelry box, pecking and flicking aside different pieces until he came up with some thick golden hoops with floral designs on them. He hopped down onto the table and set them down, letting out a proud trill, almost smiling.
Mira hummed and picked them up to examine. She hadn't worn them in a while, she thought as she turned them over in her hands. Huffing out a soft laugh she reached down to scratch Sussie behind the ear fondly.
“Thanks, little guy. These will do.”
Sussie puffed up happily before taking off and flying through the wall again, this time to Rumi's room. Rumi who was in much the same position. Earrings all adorned, necklace in place, looking through her rings to see what she wanted for today.
Sussie landed on her hand, giving a shrill squawk before walking off and into her trove of jewelry. Rumi wore an amused smile, arms crossed as he plucked and pecked through her things. He came up with 5 different silver rings, one with a light blue diamond, and a matching blue diamond necklace. They complimented the iridescent patterns that now spiderwebbed across her skin.
“Thank you, they're perfect,” Rumi said.
Next was Zoey. Sussie flew into her room and landed on her head.
“Oh! Hi Sussie!” she chirped back at him. Zoey held up her hand for him to step onto, but he side stepped her and fluttered down on his own, gaze wary. Her excited energy made him nervous sometimes. Zoey noticed and her smile faltered a little bit.
She watched keenly as the magpie began to rifle through her jewelry. He began to pick out earrings, a thin gold necklace, and various rings for Zoey as well. He chuffed when he was done picking everything out for her.
“Thanks,” Zoey said more calmly and tentatively reached out towards Sussie. The bird watched her just as keenly, but didn't move as she gently ran her finger down the back of his head and his neck. It felt good for both of them.
Sussie huffed and took off.
The girls all met in the living room for a group hug and smattering of kisses, giggling over how the magpie had helped them with their shiny trinkets. Mira started in with a surprising amount of bird facts as they each walked by the couch and scratched Derpy on his head before leaving and starting their day.
Their meet and greet lasted two hours. Two hours of screaming, crying, sobbing fans getting autographs, merch, and giving the idols small tokens of their adoration. It was grueling but left Rumi, Zoey, and Mira in high spirits.
The fashion show was an absolute whirlwind of hair, makeup, and constant dress changes. It wasn't something they enjoyed, not even Mira, but it was one of their contractual obligations. Fans loved it, bringing their magazines in for signing all the time. So, they would bear it, for the fans.
Pre show, they sat in their dressing room to carb load, get their energy back up. Zoey was carefully feeding Sussie shrimp puffs since he'd shown up unexpectedly backstage. She didn't want to scare him off. Mira and Rumi shared a soft laugh as they ate, waiting for their ramen to heat up. Sussie fluttered down and began picking veggies out of the kimbap slices.
“So cuuuuuuute,” Zoey crooned.
The show was electric. The Honmoon simmered and reflected the unified souls of their audience as they sang their hearts out, ending with “This is what it Sounds Like”. Exhausted, the trio retreated to their dressing room only to find it in a light disaster. Sussie had gotten into the makeup and left blush footprints all over their vanities and couch.
They burst out laughing. Rumi picked up the bird and mock scolded him. “Sussie, please. Why would you do this to us?” she asked, wagging a finger at him. He gave her a mock glare and flew off, phasing through the walls of the stadium. They shared a giggle and started their dress down routine.
By the time they got home they were ready for the couch. Dressed in pj's and plopping down, Mira and Rumi flanked Zoey, giving the rapper some gentle kisses on her head, her cheeks, her nose, and her shoulders. Chaste but full of love. A shrill squawk rang through the room as Sussie flew down from through the ceiling and landed on Zoey's knees.
Zoey stared in awe, slowly moving her hands, she cupped her hands under Sussie. The magpie hopped into her hands, claws gently scratching. She raised the bird up towards her face, stars in her eyes.
“I thought you didn't like me!”
If birds could blush, Sussie would be. He'd just needed some time to get used to the rapper.
Mira and Rumi just looked at their girlfriend with all the love in their hearts as Sussie huffed and settled down for the night.
