Chapter Text
The very second the cloaked figure before him had uncovered to reveal a pink girl hedgehog underneath, Sonic had completely forgotten about the hoard of him-looking robots that attempted to get his throat a moment ago.
In fact, he had positively forgotten about everything else entirely.
Still on the ground, he failed to see her hand kindly reached out for him to take. A smile remained on her face, probably said something, he couldn't make any of it.
Say something! Do something! —Move! For crying out loud! BLINK!
As his breathing grew a tad more agitated, he felt a known tickle climb up his insides, his natural response to any eerie situation...
Run.
As for her, the last thing she saw was the hint of electric blue tinting the boy's eyes. Next thing she knew, he was gone. Only a trail of blue light —soon enough vanished as well— left behind.
"H-HEEEEEY!?" He managed to hear.
"What was THAT!? Who is she—!?
'SHE'. That's a 'SHE', right!? A hedgehog! A GIRL hedgehog! —I didn't know there were girl hedgehogs!? How come nobody ever told me!?" Spoke out fast and loud as he kept running aimlessly through the unknown forest.
"What am I TALKING about!? Of course there are girl hedgehogs!! If there are boy hedgehogs, it's only natural there are girls! —I just had never stumbled across one- GAHHRG! I sound so STUPID right now!"
The light of his energy illuminated the trees and land around. No real direction taken, mostly just 'forward'.
"Why am I running again...!?" Frows up. "Did I got... scared!? Wh— NO!? That would be dumb! Running away from a girl!? WHO DOES THAT!? Besides—! She seemed... nice!"
Still sprinting, he finally decided to look back, for his surprise, she was there!
Not far off, running at a concerning close pace! A hand swung back and forward closed in a fist, the other stayed behind keeping hold of that BIG hammer of hers.
And when her eyes met his, they BURNED with determination; Seemingly fueling her completely as she suddenly began to run faster.
"SOOOOOONIC...!!!"
Panic. "GAH! Forget that! This is scary! CRAZY SCARY!!"
"COME BACK HERE...!!"
"I don't think so!!"
"SONIC! PLEASE!"
"Why do you know my name!?"
"I'VE BEEN— ugh-! LOOKING FOR YOU...!"
"That doesn't reassure me!!"
"PLEASE—! Argh! —I NEED TO TALK TO YOU, IT'S- IMPORTANT!" She was clearly struggling to speak at this point.
"Stop chasing me!!!"
"THEN STOP RUNNING!?" She threw her arms out. "WHY ARE YOU RUNNING AWAY FROM ME...!?"
"I— don't know, but-!" Pause. "There's something strangely familiar about this..." He said the last part to himself.
"THEN- STOOOP!?"
"AH! Er— Yeah! Okay, alright!"
As stated, he finally came to a halt. The girl soon enough followed through. Bending over, a hand on her knee and the other keeping hold to the hammer like a cane, as she tried to catch her breath.
He could only look at her, uncertainly, keeping a safe distance.
She still breathed heavily. A moment later her head finally lifted to meet his eyes. She was NOT happy, alright!
"Wh— what was that for!?"
"I— ah..." The tickle returned, BADLY. Yet even in an open field he felt completely cornered. 'Running away again?'— NOT a choice.
"That was so RUDE! Why did you— what were you—"
She straightened up, chest puffed as she made her way to him, heavy steps Sonic could only back away in response. He should've been able to tell she was shorter than him; yet, enraged as she was, stood somehow very much above.
"Did I say something to you!? Did I do something wrong!?"
"NO-! I mean—" Hands up in surrender, his voice stuttered as no ideas came to mind.
Sonic kept backing up too, open wide eyes trying hard to stay on the lady's. Pretty hard task considering she kept SWINGING that mighty— Mjölnir-looking THING around with every bit she said! —You know, the one she just used to OBLITERATE a dozen killer robots just a minute ago!?
"Is that how you thank someone for SAVING YOUR LIFE!?" She finally hit the ground with a single swift move. Everything around trembled violently, and Sonic found himself in the ground again.
"NO MA'AM!"
"And I—" She froze.
—MA'AM!???" She swung her hammer up a second after, eyes lighting up bright pink, filled with rage.
"NO SIR- I MEAN MISS— LADY-" He put his arms up defensively as he saw the grip on her weapon growing tighter.
Teeth showing, eyes burning in a sharp frown. "YOU—" She growled.
The boy shut his eyes close, arms above his head as he already felt the worst coming. "—NOT THE HAMMER!" He managed to blurt out.
She looked at him, heavy puffs escaped her nose as her chest rose and fell high paced.
The hammer had lifted a little further. Before the sight of the poor guy, almost shaking beneath her really seemed to bring her back to her senses. There's no time for this!!
Pink arms bent and the weapon met her back. Face pointing upwards, she let out a tired howl.
Taking a few steps back, she moved it down completely, dropping it to the side. The loud thud making Sonic finally get enough courage to take a peek.
The girl looked completely done. This definitely wasn't going the way she expected!! She lifted her palms as she glanced above, a silent 'why me...?' —type plea to the heavens.
Hands now moved to her face, taking a moment to stretch her features along before crouching, arms and head let loose in front of her, admitting defeat.
She then turned around with slow, almost exaggerated steps. Sonic sat up as he now followed her moves; Nevertheless nervous on what the She-Thor girl could possibly pull off now, but certainly growing... curious.
It didn't took long before she, back still facing the Blue, let out a BIG sigh. Arms lifted above her head, she let a leg swing up- then down, carrying her entire body as she rolled over. Her eyes, open wide and expecting, met Sonic's again, upside down now.
He could only stare back, making a face. What on Earth was she doing?
"...what on Earth are you doing?" Spoke at last.
"Am—
...a handstand...?" Anger seemingly long forgotten, she looked at him rather awkwardly, frowning and pressing her lips together.
"...why?"
The pink girl took a moment, forcing her tone to change. "wELL—!" She looked away one second. "I figured that... since you've positively made a complete FOOL of yourself...! I'd— follow your example...! Thus we're even...!"
He blinked at her.
She pressed her lips harder.
He blinked again.
"Or, yunno—!" She spoke once more. "You could just call it a desperate attempt to 'break the ice'...!?"
Blink.
Now she was certain he could see the pink blush on her muzzle!
She looked 'downward'. "—Yep! That just about makes it...!
—I'm completely embarrassed." Spoke mostly to herself.
Sonic blinked yet again, but could feel his confusion shift into something close to amusement. The corner of his lip had curled up just slightly as he tried to make sense of the situation. Like—Seriously! What's going on here!?
The sight of her was ridiculous, the girl looked so madly scary just a second ago!
He couldn't help it, he chuckled! "You're so WEIRD!"
The girl faced him, lowering her eyelids, defeated once more.
For her surprise, she found him standing and rolling over smoothly; hands on the ground, feet in the air, his eyes meet hers the right way again. His smile an inch wider, oddly genuine for someone STILL so very confused about everything going on right now. —He couldn't help it, though! He was strangely entretained by this!
She smiled back, tension definitely easing on her end.
"—Well! Now that we've positively given the WORST possible first impression to one another...! May I introduce myself?"
Sonic balanced on one hand, looking to the side he picked his chin as deep in thought, then back at her with some kind of smirk. "Hmmm... you may~" And gestured to her.
Titter. Her own hand lifted to meet his in an upside down handshake that probably looked really stupid. "Amy Rose!" Announced at last with new found confidence, and a little bit of charm, even!
"Sonic Wachowski!" He proceded.
They shook hands as tight and comfortable their weird positions allowed them to, and soon enough retrieved.
"Now. Can we PLEASE talk?" Amy spoke as she rolled to her feet, tone getting low. "I have... a rather serious business to discuss with you."
Sonic stood again too. "Are you talking about the robots?" Crazy, he had really forgotten about that whole deal.
She sighed, eyes closed "Yes...!"
Finally!
"Let me guess..." He crossed his arms and began gesturing. "They were designed and built by a crazy doctor guy that may or may not be back from the death —AGAIN— and has returned to his evil antics to destroy me, my family and take over the world to install a robotic empire to his liking on its place...!"
Rather unamused, Amy balanced her head side to side. "It's a— little more complicated than that...! But am... yeah, that's basically it, yeah."
"Cool." He 'tsk'-ed. "—Good thing I didn't had any plans for the weekend!" The girl scoffed.
Arms on his hips, Sonic took a more secure stance to signal his 'hero mode' had activated. "—Well! Whatever you have to say, my whole team needs to hear! Mind if we move this conversation back to my place?" He pointed back with his thumb.
"Oh!" She reacted. "...Sure thing!" She looked around before fetching her hammer. "Am— lead us the way, then!"
"Right—!" He paused and looked around. "Lead... the... way." The boy was just now realizing their little chase scene had got him even more lost than before.
"Let me just— Amm..." He put a hand over his mouth to think.
Amy simply stared, soon shook her head and took something from under her cloak, before approaching the boy.
The sudden hold of his wrist made him flinch and meet her gaze. Her palm met his and she held on a bit. "You know, for being the legendary hero who saved the world a few times already... you're kind of a mess." She teased.
Sonic didn't have time to protest or take note of the odd tone, as she had already retrieved her hands for him to find a portal ring left on his.
Cough. "—You caught me off guard! Doesn't count." Stated as he flipped the ring in a fancy move and stepped to the side. He lifted his arm to toss it, yet a sudden thought made him doubt, he quickly shook it off and threw the little golden loop forward, a portal soon showing before them.
The boy gestured back to her, some kind of bow. "Laaadies first~?"
Amy scoffed and walked over. "Don't try and play the gentleman card now, you!"
Close to the bright entrance, she stopped and looked back at him, a sudden shyness in her face. "Hey... I'm sorry if I scared you before, I didn't meant to!"
Sonic was quick to answer. "SCARE ME!? You didn't scare me!? You just ahr— caught me off guard! —as I said." He moved a hand behind his quills, avoiding her gaze.
She spoke again, not feeling too reassured. "And... I shouldn't have aimed my hammer at you, that was... not nice. Sorry."
The timid frown on her pink face surprised him. Still tried to play it casual, with the most laid back-cool tone he was able to put together. "—Bahhh! Don't worry about that...!" He swung his hand. "I guess I deserved it? Hah..." He cleared his throat. " bEsides—! I would've dodged it anyways!
...probably."
Amy smiled again, soft and true. Seriously, how many emotions could this girl shove at him at once!?
The pink of her soon vanished through the round, luminous entry. He followed right after.
The portal began to close, it's white and golden light slowly drifting away from the woodland scenery around. Back to the bright blue and green hues of a full moon night, and the tranquility of untouched nature. Every trace of the two hedgehogs quickly erased, as nothing had ever happened there...
Yet, we all know it.
Something definitely had.
