Work Text:

As Buck was officially unpacking the last of his things into Eddie's room, their room.

Combining their clothes felt weird but it felt right like it was something that was always meant to happen, Eddie may not believe in fate or curses but Buck sure as hell does, so them being in this moment together, officially living together after living together co-parenting a child together without actually living together felt like pure fate to Buck and nothing could change that feeling for him.

The last few of his T-shirts were going into the drawer when Buck found something folded up, hidden in the corner. Just a piece of white paper and a post it-note with Buck, September 2021. Naturally, being curious and nosey he pulled it out and unfolded it. It was the heart he drew with Christopher, when he misunderstood his school assignment, instead of all the heart chambers and and everything being labeled correctly he had done a heart with a smiley face on it and what he can only class as squiggly lines around it and the odd heart in the corner of the page too, he can't believe Eddie had kept this. He was convinced it would’ve gone straight into the recycling that night.

His feet moved before he knew what he was doing, walking to Eddie who was putting groceries away in the kitchen.

“Eds I can't believe you kept this.” He says holding up the drawing in his hand.

“Oh I– I erm I didn't, you weren't meant to see that.”

“You kept it, but it's so bad why would you want to keep it.”

He stood there watching Eddie's cheeks getting redder by the second.

“I kept it because you did it and every time I see it, it makes me smile.” Eddie says scratching the back of his back trying to play it nonchalantly.

“And Buck everytime i see it reminds me of how much you love Chris and how much I love you.”

“You're an idiot, you realise that right?” Finally putting the drawing down and walking the small distance that was between them.

“I love you so much, you're so sappy, who knew it, Edmundo.”

“Shut up Buck, I'll throw it out I promise.”

Buck could tell by the look on Eddie's face that the second Buck looked away it was going back into the drawer.

“How about we frame it and hang it up in our bedroom, could do with some more decorations in there.” His free hands went up to softly cup Eddie's face, feeling his scruff under his fingertips, he'd always loved it when Eddie hadn't shaved for a few days.

“Who's the sappy one now, Buckley.”

“Yeah yeah shut up and kiss me Diaz.”

Eddie leaned in, closing the gap between them quickly taking Buck's bottom lip into his mouth. This was everything Buck could have ever asked for in life.

If fate isn't real then he could never explain Eddie Diaz.
