Work Text:
The shrill chirp of an alarm woke the men up from a comfortable sleep where Tim was sprawled out on the bed and Jay was curled onto the shorter man.
Unfortunately, Tim had an early shift so he needed to get up early.
As Tim reached over to disable the alarm, Jay grumbled at the shift in position.
”Mmm… you’ll be fine for a second, sweetheart.” Tim croaked out as he tapped on his alarm clock then shifted back to the previous cubby at which he laid, “See? Safe and sound.” Tim kissed the top of Jay’s head and made circles on his back with his hand. His morning voice swirled around Jay’s stomach, leaving a creeping flush on his face.
”But… you have to go soon, my love.” Tim wrapped his other arm around Jay so that they were completely intertwined within the bangle of blankets that kept them warm in the disturbingly cold Michigan morning.
“Good thing I set my alarm early so I could hold you longer.” Jay smiled, scooting himself up so he could be eye to eye with Tim a bit better. Jay sleepily slow blinked, the motion accentuating the way his eyes reminded Tim of a kyanite stone.
”You treat me too well.” Tim’s small grin softly grew into a warm smile.
”Jaybird, I could only treat you well.” Tim snuggled deeper into Jay, putting his head in the crook of the taller man’s neck. The flush only grew at the name, making Jay plant a soft yet tender kiss on Tim’s neck.
Tim was never one for any pet names, but it was as if Jay made it impossible to not say all of them. He brought that out of the shorter man, a sense of vulnerability that he never quite had with Brian despite how close they were before everything.
They stayed like that for a while, cuddled in together and only focusing on the other’s steady heartbeat. The soft morning light shown in through the window, illuminating their connected figures in what could only be described as picturesque. A slight filter was covering the windows; an early morning dew that resulted from the cool temperature outside.
There came a point where the men realized they had to move, otherwise they never would. So, regretfully, Tim abandoned the warmth of the bed to stand out on the small balcony in their bedroom.
The carpeting crunched subtly underneath Tim’s steps as he walked outside and onto the chipped wood planks. Although cold in his plaid pajama pants and grey t-shirt, he preferred it that way when waking up.
Tim lit a cigarette and leaned against the balcony railing with his elbows propped up, staring out at the dense woods that lay behind their small home.
He stood like that for a moment, letting himself bask in the warmth of the early morning sun as he routinely inhaled and exhaled the smoke that filtered from his cigarette.
Suddenly, the sliding door behind him slowly slid open and when Tim turned around, he saw Jay stepping out to join him. Jay was just as beautiful as ever— the brown long sleeve he wore laid loose on his body and made his eyes pop out even more than ever. Those damn eyes. Tim would never forget them, and he never did.
”Am I allowed to join your moment of peace, honey?” Jay stood there, cradling himself from the cold.
”Only if you want to share.” Tim jokingly waved his cigarette around, making Jay smile and give a small chuckle.
”Only if it’s from your lips.” Jay walked over to Tim, pressing his shoulder against Tim’s and leaning his elbows on the railing. Jay noted the way that Tim’s hand was steady as he held his vice, despite the way his hands always trembled. Tim took a few more hits from his cigarette before gently cradling Jay’s face with his free hand. Tim looked up into Jay’s eyes and despite his general roughness, reminded Jay of how his eyes reminded him of that of a deer’s.
”Are you ready, my sweets?” He confirmed.
”Always, my love.” Tim took a hit from his cigarette and pressed his lips gently against Jay’s before slightly opening his mouth and exhaling the smoke into Jay’s. Jay inhaled the nicotine, noting the way it stung his lungs.
Jay was never one for smoking, but there was something about Tim that made it comforting to shotgun or smoke firsthand. He didn’t do it often, but when he did he felt closer to Tim than ever; as if he was fully intertwining his soul with Tim’s.
Tim pulled away, his hand still resting on Jay’s cheek as he gently rubbed his finger along the slight stubble.
”I love you, my darling.”
”I love you, my sweets.”
