“Do you ever miss it?”
Crosshair’s voice was quiet, little puffs of condensation appearing in the cold air. Tech tilted his head back so it was lying on his shoulder.
“What?”
Kamino. Their old life. Everything. He didn't know, he couldn't express it but there was ... Longing. Times had been simpler back then, and so much more complicated.
“Everything. Back then. Before …” he trailed off, uncertain how to continue. Tech understood anyway.
“I ... A little. War is awful but it's in our DNA. It was ... different. But this is still good, isn't it?”
Crosshair hummed. He missed it too, sometimes. No matter how dangerous the mission, they had orders and each other and ... Yeah, it had been good.
But. Getting to spend the rest of their lives together, like this … Never thought they would get this far, to be honest, but it was something he didn't want to miss anymore.
Tech shifted in his arms, looking up at him. A soft smile was tugging on his lips and Crosshair couldn’t help but smile back. Years of growing up together meant they didn’t need words - somehow, they always knew. Knew what they were going to say, what the other was thinking. And the time they spent apart hadn’t changed that. Could never change that.
Whatever Tech wanted to say was lost in the gasp when a particular pretty meteor raced through the sky, bathing them in rainbow light.
“That meteor shower was worth coming here.”
Tech nodded, the fading light of the dying meteor sparkling in the lens of his goggles.
“I’m so happy to get to watch it with you,” he muttered.
“We always said we would.” They had. It was one of the things they had talked about seeing, exploring the galaxy. Together.
Instead of answering, Crosshair leaned forward to place a soft kiss on the top of Tech’s head, then settled against him, turning his eyes to the sky again. He would enjoy every moment they got.
