Work Text:
“Yeah, we’re walking in the front door right now,” he flinches when the phone almost slips from where he has it clenched between his cheek and shoulder, grabbing it when he pockets his keys.
“Thanks again for picking him up from Robotics–sorry for the short notice.”
“Nothing to thank me for, Eddie–you should know that by now,” he says, a smile plastered on his face. “Besides, your last minute shift pick up means we can eat ice cream and play video games all we want,” Christopher whoops, which elicits a laugh from Buck and a groan from Eddie. “I’m kidding, I’m going to make sure he has a balanced meal. The video games part was for real, though.”
“I live with two children,” Eddie bemuses, but Buck can hear the fond tone hidden underneath. “Hey, I gotta go back to work, I’ll see you at home.”
“See you at home, have a good shift,” Buck sighs contentedly as the call ends and Eddie’s face lingers on his screen for a second. Alone in the kitchen now with Christopher stealing away to his room, Buck bites back a smile.
It’s been two days since he and Eddie had a life changing conversation on the couch in the next room–one that laid themselves bare for one another, professing mutual love they didn’t realize the other held. It’s been two days since Buck’s life has changed in the best, most unimaginable way possible.
He digs through the fridge and pulls out the ingredients he had set aside earlier for their dinner tonight, bumping the door with his hip. Whistling to himself, he almost misses the sound of a magnet falling against the tile. “Oh, oops,” he murmurs, leaning over to pick it up once his hands were free, holding the small metal magnet in the shape of the observatory they went to a few years back. Buck smiles fondly as he puts the magnet back, right on the corner of the fridge calendar. He’s about to get back to his food prep when something on the calendar catches his eye that has him pulling out his phone.
Did you put him up to this?

Good evening, darling brother of mine.
I’m having a good day, thanks for asking
Maddie! This is serious
What are you freaking out about? It’s cute!
And no I didn't put him up to it!
It is cute, isn’t it?
Happy for you, Buck ❤️
On the calendar, on the upcoming Friday, Eddie’s scrawl writes out “Date with Buck (Dinner and a walk)”. Around it, a haphazardly drawn heart in red ink.
He thinks back to his sister’s teasing voice in the conversation they had where he had come out to her, so he doesn’t think he was too remiss to accuse her, but at her insistence that it was just Eddie’s affection, he softens. He makes dinner with a little extra love that night.
"Siri, find a recipe for Marry Me Pasta."
