Confessions

Summary:

Kageyama and Hinata bickered a lot. It was something they had always done. Kageyama knew it never lead to anything serious. But, Kageyama did not know that bickering over a simple confession would lead to another confession. A confession much more serious than the other.

Notes:

Hey guys! This is my first ever official fanfic I am writing. I know, it is probably not the best thing I could have wrote, but I tried! I would absolutely love any tips on how to write and format better, they are much appreciated. This is a small one shot, I don't expect it to be over at least 2,000 words. But I will let you read and I really do hope you like it! >.<

PLEASE NOTE:
Now, I don't know if you have read the tags, but for context, Kiyoko and Yachi are on a trip with themselves for a break. I think they deserve a break from the team so I am giving them the chance lol. It will be explained in the later chapter, this also explains why Hinata and Kageyama have to wash the jersey's instead!

Chapter 1: Spilled Milk

Chapter Text

Kageyama and Hinata bickered a lot. It was something they had always done. Kageyama knew it never lead to anything serious. But, Kageyama did not know that bickering over a simple confession would lead to another confession. a confession much more serious than the other.

For Kageyama, practice went normal like it always had. Today Hinata and Kageyama had duty to wash the jerseys this week. The task was relatively easy, but Hinata makes everything for Kageyama ten times more difficult.

Kageyama knew he wasn't the smartest he could be. All of his intelligence went straight to volleyball. Who needed to learn English anyway? But, when Kageyama would be around Hinata, it was different. When Hinata was around, he forgot the language he grew up speaking. The way the sun would hit his fiery hair, making it look like it glowed. If Kageyama was close up to Hinata he could see small freckles dot along the bridge of his nose. No one Kageyama had ever met compared to the 163cm boy that stood in front of him. The only one to keep up with his crazy fast sets. The one who would always be ready to spike his set and score a point. Kageyama would never admit this to himself, but he really liked Hinata.

Him and Hinata raced to the storage room, where the giant washing machine stood. When Hinata would piss Kageyama off, he would threaten to throw Hinata inside of the machine and put it on the hottest wash cycle available.

"Orange juice is way better than apple juice Bakayama, you just won't admit it!"

Hinata is right, he will not admit it. Only because of the reason why he prefers it. It reminds him of Hinata.

"Shut up you idiot! Hurry we have to put these jerseys in there." Kageyama says, throwing the ones he has in his hands.

After throwing the few jerseys he was holding into the wash, Hinata mutters, "I will get you to admit it one day Bakayama, and I will laugh in your face when you do."

While they waiting for the jerseys to be done, Hinata and Kageyama walked towards the vending machine near the gym. Kageyama got his small milk box like always. Hinata got lemonade of some sort. Hinata always drank strange drinks to Kageyama.

"You think the wash is finally done?"

Hinata always asked oblivious questions. Kageyama did not mind at all. He just liked to hear the other boy talk. He could listen to Hinata's rambles about the utmost random things paying no mind.

"What makes you think I know dumb ass." Kageyama never really did his clothes majority of the time. His mom always helped him with the washing of his clothes.

They make their way back towards the gym's storage room, taking the wet, freshly washed jersey's and hanging them up to dry. Hinata hung up the first couple of jersey's. He and Kageyama each hung up six jersey's, twelve all together.

Kageyama looked over to see Hinata stretching after hanging up the last jersey to dry. Hinata stretched his arms over his head, causing his cotton-white shirt to ride up, revealing a sliver of skin above the waistband of his gym shorts. Kageyama didn't mean to stare, but he just couldn't look away. The skin looked so soft, he wanted to rub his thumb over the area to prove his theory. Hinata's skin there was lighter than his arms, showing the Hinata was slightly a tan from that previous summer. And was that a small, light freckle there as well.

Kageyama didn't realize just how hard he was staring until the clothes he had been holding fell to the ground with a plop. He had been staring for so long, the wet clothes slipped right through his arms. What was he doing? Staring is only going to make it more obvious.

"Bakayama, you can't drop the clean clothes on the dirty floor! We'll have to wash them again." Hinata laughed.

Kageyama should be mad, maybe shout an insult back at the other, but Hinata's laugh was such a refreshing sound. It sounded bright and full. Like when the sun peeks out from the clouds after a bad storm. The rays of sunlight pierce through, shining down making everything bright again. It is beautiful, it's Hinata.

Feeling a heat creep up his neck flushing his ears. Kageyama turned to pick back up the clothes.

After the jersey's were finally hung, Kageyama asked Hinata what he wanted to do now. The clothes would take quite some time to dry fully.

"What if we play volleyball while they dry?" Hinata suggested.

"Like out in the gym?" Kageyama asked slightly confused.

"No you idiot, let's try and play in here!" Hinata said with a bright smile on his face. It was really hard for Kageyama to say no to Hinata. Plus, it's volleyball, he could never say no to volleyball.

Kageyama shrugged, "I don't know if we have much space, but I guess we can try."

Hinata's smile grew brighter knowing Kageyama would agree no matter what. "Perfect! Here, you start." Hinata said cheerfully before tossing an old volleyball Kageyama can only assume was from somewhere in the storage room.

"Let me set my drink down first." Kageyama says with a growing frown on his face. Hinata always told him his face was going to get stuck like that, but Kageyama doesn't even mean to frown all the time. When he does smile, he gets told it's creepy.

He didn't want to spill his milk on the jersey's considering that they have a game in a couple of hours. He sets the small box of milk on a shelf next to where the drying jerseys hang.

They pass the ball back and forth for a while. Hinata and Kageyama hadn't messed up passing until Hinata hit the ball at a weird angle, causing the ball to go more farther than usual. Kageyama took a step back to save the ball from dropping, forgetting they are playing in a cramped storage room.

He backs into the shelf behind him, hitting him sharply in the back, and knocking the small carton of milk off the shelf, along with a few obscure items.

Kageyama puts a hand on his back, groaning from pain. He notices Hinata is dead silent. Hinata is rarely ever quiet.

Kageyama looks up to see Hinata with a shocked expression on his face. His eyes had gone wide, with his mouth making a small o shape. It was like he had seen a ghost. Kageyama was confused on why Hinata was looking at him like that. Yeah he back up into the shelf and it hurt, but he didn't die. Then Kageyama realizes Hinata is in fact not looking at him, but rather behind him instead.

Kageyama turns around to see that his milk carton had fallen off the shelf and spilled all over the newly cleaned clothes. It had seeped into the fabric, running down and making small splotches of the liquid on the floor.

Kageyama turns back around slowly to face Hinata who is already looking at him. Both Kageyama and Hinata only had one thing to say about the situation…

"Oh no."
