Chapter Text
The chilly air that welcomes the autumn season nips at Miyano's neck, making him really regret deciding against a jacket this morning. Who knew it'd be this cold and windy in the evening anyways? It was perfectly sunny in the morning, and the temperature barely even called for one. Thankfully enough for him, the walk to the train station never really takes him that long, and he’s not gonna be alone the way there anyways. All there was to do left was meet up with Sasaki, then he could be on his way back to the warmth! ‘Maybe we should stop by the bookstore today?’ The thought lingers in Miyano’s mind for a second, before deciding that he’ll ask senpai about it later.
It didn't take long for Miyano to find Sasaki, besides his height, that head of orange hair was always hard to miss even within a crowd anyways. The two of them began their walk back together like they always did, the glow of the setting sun painting over their heads. The wind grew stronger for a second, sending the fallen brown and orange leaves sweeping around their feet yet Sasaki was completely unaffected by it. To Miyano’s surprise, Sasaki just happened to have a jacket on. Maybe he’d anticipated the temperature change? Mid-step, Miyano looks over to Sasaki, a half-playful half-pitiful look filling his gaze towards him.
"It's cold today, isn't it?" he mutters, crossing his arms over his chest in a pitiful effort to warm up his arms a little. Though, in reality, it really was just an attempt to hint at Sasaki that he was cold.
"Damn, you're right. It is getting cold, huh?" Sasaki looked at Miyano for a moment, before zipping up his jacket completely. He kept walking ahead like nothing happened, while Miyano could only stare in astonishment for a moment before catching up to Sasaki's steps. ‘What the heck was that?’ Miyano couldn’t decide how he felt about what Sasaki had just done, but he couldn’t really blame the ginger either. ‘I guess he would be cold too…’ The silence swallowed him up, arms dropping to his sides. His fingers fiddle with the fabric of his pants, feeling just a little awkward as he trailed behind Sasaki.
It took only a couple minutes before Sasaki stopped again, this time grinning smugly as he stuck out his tongue. "I'm just kidding, Myaa-chan. Here." He unzipped the jacket, slipping it off over his head quickly before resting it over Miyano's shoulders as if it was a cape. "Better now?" The look in Sasaki’s eyes was all too gentle for Miyano to handle for a second. ‘Stop looking at me like that’, he thinks, though he doesn’t really want Sasaki to take his eyes off him at all. The raven freezes up again, though it definitely had nothing to do with the temperature this time. “Y-Yeah, better. Thanks, senpai..” Miyano nods quickly, grabbing the jacket and slipping it on properly.
He can see the way that grin lingers on Sasaki’s face now that he’s walking right next to him again. ‘His jacket… smells like bread.’ Miyano’s heart skips a couple beats, embarrassing him enough to cover his face using the back of his palm. “Senpai, were you helping out at the bakery this morning?” Miyano’s head is tilted up, because of course he has to every time he wants to talk to Sasaki. “Hm? Yeah, I was. You can tell?” For a fleeting moment, Sasaki wonders if he looked tired or something. He wasn’t really feeling it, but you can’t ever tell how you look in other people’s eyes anyways.
“Ah- No.. It’s just. Your jacket, it smells like bread.” Miyano swears that he sees Sasaki’s cheeks redden, or maybe it's the glow of the sunset that’s illuminating his face. Whatever it was, he liked it. All this time, Miyano’s always thought of Sasaki as this cool, bold guy but maybe bad boys can be cute too, huh? “Ahh, well. It can’t be helped, right?” Sasaki laughs it off casually, moving just a little closer towards Miyano as they walk. Their arms brushed against each other’s now. “Come to think of it, you haven’t been to my family’s bakery, have you?”
“Oh! You’re right.. Maybe I should stop over sometime.” Miyano hums. He could take a stop by to buy some bread to eat during break, then walk the rest of the way to school. It wouldn’t be that much of a hassle, and if he’s lucky enough, he’d run into Sasaki there too. “Sounds like a plan! I should prep some extra special ones for you then.” Sasaki’s words make Miyano laugh, because of course he’d think of doing that. ‘Senpai always goes out of his way for me…’ The thought makes him feel.. relieved. He’s never really liked relying on other people too much, but Sasaki always made it just so easy to.
The two of them do end up reaching the train station on time, boarding the train when it arrives. “Oh, right! I wanted to visit the bookstore today, but completely forgot to ask you.” Miyano mutters as he takes the seat closest to the doors, and Sasaki snags the empty spot right next to him. “Bookstore? Is there a new release? I don’t remember seeing anything about one.” At this point of their relationship, Sasaki had started keeping tabs on new releases too, especially on the series and authors that he knows are Miyano’s favourite. He even reminds Miyano about them sometimes when the raven gets too caught up with schoolwork.
It’s a mystery how Miyano got so lucky with finding a guy like him. Well, he didn't really find Sasaki. Maybe it was fate instead.
“No, that’s not it! I was talking to Kuresawa earlier and his girlfriend had a manga to recommend to me. It seemed interesting enough, so I thought I’d go check it out.”
“Is that so? Then let’s go together tomorrow.” Sasaki smiles, already planning out the day in his head. Who was he to deny Miyano from discovering a new series? It’s a win for him too since he gets to borrow it from him, and talk to him about it anyways. “R-Really? I mean, you don’t have to..” Miyano diverts his eyes, looking out the windows instead. Sasaki’s always so willing, almost too willing to do anything he wants. “Hmm? You tryin’ to say that you don’t want me there with you, Myaa-chan? I thought we were way past the ‘two guys in the BL manga section together’ thing.” Sasaki teases again, even though he knows that it definitely wasn’t Miyano meant, hearing the confirmation that his boyfriend likes having him around is nice anyways.
“You..! That’s not it.” Miyano sighs, avoiding raising his voice too much in the train when he realises that Sasaki was just teasing him again. “It’s just.. You always follow me around when I ask you to. I’m just afraid it’s troubling you.” Almost immediately, Sasaki cuts Miyano off, shaking his head. “No, Myaa-chan. I follow you because I like it. I like being with you.”
Miyano’s heart started beating so fast he could hear it in his ears.
“I want to be around you all the time, and… I want you to feel that way with me too.”
“I’m glad.”
The raven haired really didn’t know what else to say, the confession sending him off balance for a hot second. He tries not to blush too much, leaning on Sasaki's arm. “I want it too.” ‘To be closer to you’, he says it in his mind. It would be way too embarrassing for him to say that out loud in a public place. He could feel the way the ginger’s shoulders relax as he breathes out, something that sounds like a pleased sigh. “I’m glad, Myaa-chan.”
