“ONII-CHAN!”

“SAKI!” Saki tackled her brother, nearly sending him onto the floor. Even if they live together, the siblings always were excited to see one another after a long day.

They begrudgingly let go of one another. “Sweetie? Welcome home!” Mrs Tenma Akemi greeted her daughter with equally as much excitement.

“Mom, Onii-chan, I’ll be with the both of you in a second. Let me take my shoes off and put them away.” She shooed her brother and mother away, and focused on her shoes instead.

She could barely be focused on them though. Their parents were actually home for once! She could barely even contain her excitement. It’s not like they’re always gone, but it’s not everyday the 4 of them can eat together.

Even if their parents were home, either Tsukasa had to work on a script, or their father had some sheets to fill out and or their mother was busy on the phone. Sometimes, she was the one that was busy. Finally eating dinner together as a family feels exciting.

She put her shoes down, and rushed into the living room.

“DAD, HI!” Haruki rose up from the couch to ruffle Saki's hair.

“How you doing, kiddo?”

“I’m doing—”

“Saki, my dear husband, will the both of you please come to the dinner table?” Akemi yelled from the kitchen. Saki giggled a bit at just how loud she can be, nearly as bad as Onii-chan himself.

“I’ll tell you how I’m doing over dinner.” Saki winked at her father and rushed to the table, he gave a fond chuckle before joining the 3 of them.

Saki sat next to her brother, who was just patiently waiting for everyone else to also sit down. In front of him was Akemi, who had that gentle smile they never saw her without. And next to their mother, sat Haruki.

Saki starred into the dish in front of her, curry it seems, unless it was some other mysterious dish she's never seen before.

“Finally decided to leave the couch behind?” Akemi raised her eyebrow. The siblings both began giggling behind their palms.

“Our dear daughter was just about to tell me how she was doing, before you interrupted her.” Haruki answered in a clearly fake fury.

“Oh? Then dear, please begin explaining.” Her mother gave her an encouraging look.

“Oh, okay so you both know Emu-chan, right? The girl who's part of Onii-chans troupe?”

“Really? We never noticed.” Her parents looked more confused than anything else. What do they mean they never noticed? Onii-chan loves talking about how wonderful the other members of Wonderlands X Showtime are, how could they have missed that?

Next to her, Tsukasa tightened his grip on his spoon. “HA HA HA! Saki, it’s clear our parents are just pulling a prank, right?” His voice was strained.

“We—”

“Of course, dear, obviously it’s just a prank! Aha” Their mothers voice was also strained, making the laugh feel more painful.

Do they really not pay that much attention to Onii-chan?

After a few seconds of agonizing silence, Saki spoke. “Right, so, um, she started handing out money to so many people, she even ran to Onii-chan’s school!”

“Why would she do that?”

“So me and Onii-chan are in this group chat with some of our friends AND our friends' friends, and apparently for everyone to keep a little something,” Saki wiggled her eyebrows at Tsukasa, who gave her the face of horror. “secret from ME, she offered to pay everyone! I mean could you believe it?”

“Saki, even I don’t know the secret she's trying to keep—”

“Oh, I expected better of Otori-san.” Haruki said in a flat tone.

“Honey, she's just a teenager—”

“And teenager secrets are harmless, harmless you hear! Paying everyone in front of our daughter to keep something secret is just mean. She seemed like a sweet girl, so maybe she got corrupted by someone? Tsukasa, you had some guy in your troupe, right?”

Tsukasa tried to speak. “Yeah, Rui is—”

“Yeah, him. Did he corrupt the girl? I know some men can’t be trustworthy, wouldn’t be shocked to find out he made her become like this.” Haruki said in an accusatory tone.

“Rui would nev—”

“Haruki, you shouldn’t accuse our daughter’s friends of being mean. Sure, it's bad that Otori-san did that, but she's just a teenager! She was also very childish when we met her, like there was barely a single thought in her head—” Saki began tuning them out after that.

Seriously? They gotta argue over something like this? It’s her problem, not theirs.

She turned to her brother, and signaled for him to lean down. “Psssshhh Onii-chan, guess what?”

“What is it, Saki?” Tsukasa whispered in the same tone.

“I think Rui-san has a crush on you~” She giggled near the end. She's kind of glad Tsukasa doesn’t scroll up in that group chat, or else he might just explode seeing what Rui-san wrote.

Tsukasa's face was red, as red as a ruby. “SAKI! He does not.” He loudly whispered.

“Come on, Onii-chan, he's gay, it’s not like it's impossible—”

“Who’s gay?” Both their parents turned to stare at them.

Tsukasa stammered for a second, before locking eyes with Saki. “A FRIEND IS GAY!” They answered simultaneously.

I mean, it was true. Sure, it wasn’t like they had to give them the whole context, plus, parents don't need to know just everything! And Saki fears that if her parents knew the whole context, they would give Tsukasa some weird speech about how to be a gentleman or either turn down the guy, or accept his future confession.

Either way, they didn’t have to know everything.

“Gay? Oh, one of those homosexuals, huh?” Their father questioned.

“Oh dear, it’s just like poor Kou's son.”

“God, those homosexuals are so weird. I swear Kou’s son was just great before he got that boyfriend, it’s probably because he didn't meet the right woman yet. Such a shame, the kid was so smart, yet he chose to drop out and join his boyfriend's business or whatever.”

Saki could see next to her how Tsukasa's body tensed, something so miniscule, and yet so big. These words wouldn’t affect him for no reason, would they? Does Onii-chan think he might become a disappointment in their parents' eyes if he loves someone?

Saki glared at Haruki. “Dad, what's so wrong with being a homosexual? You know I’m one too, right? You both met Ichika, my girlfriend.”

Her mother seemed to be…stressed? “Oh dear, you know you’re a whole other case. Both you and your girlfriend are wonderful people, still smart and great. Poor Kou’s son was a whole other case—”

“How? He just fell in love. Just because he dropped out doesn’t mean anything, also wasn’t his boyfriend's business successful?’

Haruki rushed to answer. “Well, yes! But still, him and his boyfriend were—”

Saki stood up from the table. “I’m not hungry anymore, I ate enough. Onii-chan, when you’re done eating please come and help me with my homework.”

Saki walked down the hallway, before entering her room and slamming the door shut.

What was up with them? All this ‘We’re not homophobic bla bla we love you and accept you!’ talk just for them to say THAT at dinner? How stupid were they that they didn’t even notice Tsukasa tensing up and eating faster. He was clearly in some form of distress, but they were too busy focusing on other things, somehow.

Why is it only now that she notices just how little they pay attention to him—

Her bedroom door slowly opened. There stood her brother, slightly less tense than before, with a gentle smile on his face. “You said you wanted me to help?” He shut the door behind himself.

She turned her face to him. “Onii-chan, are you okay?”

“SO, as I was saying, we have a bit of equipment—”

“Tsukasa-kun~”

Tsukasa turned to the voice owner, who was none other than his director. Who else would say his name like that?

Next to him stood none other than Mizuki Akiyama herself. She was seemingly trying to stop herself from giggling, but it was also obvious she was failing. Nene who stood on the other side of Rui opened her arms, resulting in Emu jumping straight into them.

“WONDERHOY! HELLO, EVERYONE!” Emu practically yelled. A part of him is glad the Wonder Stage is so far away from everything, or else they would probably traumatize some poor bystander.

“Wonderhoy to you too, Emu!” Mizuki copied Emu's signature hand gesture when saying it, and gave a wink. Emu just smiled wider at Mizuki.

“Hm, who do we have here? A stuck up bastard who thinks he’s better at juggling than me?” Saki walked in front from behind him, and put a hand on her chest seemingly signing something along the lines of how dare?

“Oh? And who do we have here? A stuck up little girl who thinks she can beat the Showtime Ruler himself?” Rui copied Saki's exact pose, but unlike Saki, he kept the serious expression on his face.

She nearly turned as red as a tomato from how hard she began laughing. Tsukasa started panicking halfway through thinking she might be dying, somehow. Rui just watched in amusement, and the 3 other girls also began laughing manicly.

Mizuki held her stomach. “WhY— Why, why is iT sO— WHY IS IT SO FUNNY? WHY IS HER RUNNING OUT OF AIR SO FUNNY?” She pointed her index finger at the blonde girl, who was on the floor at this point.

“...What the fuck did we just walk up on?”

Ena glared at her brother. “Like I’d fucking know. Mizuki, stop dying of laughter at your friend's sister dying.” She lightly hit Mizuki's head, which only served to increase her laughter. Akito gave an unimpressed stare, while An began taking pictures of Mizuki.

“Tsukasa-senpai, it has been a while.” Toya walked up to the man in question, and held out his hand, only for him to be pulled into a hug.

“TOYAAAAA MY WONDERFUL LITTLE BROTHER I MISSED YOU SO MUCH— SAKI GET IN HERE— I MISSED YOU SO MUCH!” Tsukasa nearly wailed. Saki rushed to stand up to also join the short hug that served as a greeting. After they let go of one another, Toya's cheeks were dusted with red.

“Is this normal?” Kanade turned to Mizuki, who seemingly knew the rest of them a lot better. “I mean, pretty much? It is never a dull day with them.” She shrugged.

Minori and Haruka arrived in tow with Shizuku, Airi, Shiho, Honami and Ichika. Minori seemed to be out of breath, while Haruka never looked better. It is quite easy to tell who has been an idol long term and who has not. The rest of the girls didn’t seem affected either, in fact they were more engrossed in some conversation.

Which Saki felt the need to join in.

“ICCHAN!” She ran to her girlfriend.

“Saki!” Ichika rushed to meet her halfway.

“Awwwww,” Kohane crooned, seemingly fond of the display of affection between the two girls. “An-chan, they’re kinda like us—”

An just grabbed her partner, and seemingly tried to crush her alive— okay, well no, she just wanted to squeeze Kohane a bit for being the cutest, most perfect partner ever. Kohane flayed a bit in her arms, trying a bit to escape her death like grip, until she just gave up.

Next to them, Akito began making a gagging sound, which resulted in Tsukasa hitting him. And that resulted in Akito yelping and trying to get revenge, which Tsukasa kept reprocating… and so it turned into a cycle of bickering and (play) fighting.

“Should we stop them?” Toya turned to Rui, Nene and Emu. He tilted his head a bit in confusion. Typically it was Akito picking fights with Tsukasa, but now it’s… also the other way around? Who does he help? Who does he Stop? Who does he—

“Nah, this is entertaining stuff.” Nene said, shoving a lollipop into her mouth from seemingly nowhere.

“My boy needs enrichment, let him fight the ginger, what if I make him fight a leprechaun in a future show? Fufufu.” Rui just chuckled to himself.

Emu turned to stare at Toya, and laughed. “They’re having fun, Toya-kun! Look at Tsukasa-kun's smile and Shinonome-kun's laughter!” She pointed towards the 2 boys.

And she was… right? Tsukasa was still yelling but he was also smiling the whole time, Akito was trying to fight back but he would also just begin laughing… They were having fun, and it was apparent.

Huh, they finally began getting along… thats— Thats good! Really good.

“Aoyagi-kun, what happened?” Kohane looked at him. Of course she would notice how he physically brightened up at a thought, he was practically glowing, anyone could see it.

“Nothing… I just realized something, something good.”

“So, let the contest begin!” Emu put her hand up, signaling the start, and rushed to sit down in front of the stage to also witness the show.

While Saki and Rui both stood on the stage, everyone else sat on the benches for the Wonder Stage.

Kohane stared, mouth agape at the display of skills she was just witnessing, she mindlessly clicked on her camera at random times. Toya was the exact same. Tsukasa and Akito both turned to look at each other, and back at the stage, and repeated. They could not understand whatever the hell was happening before their eyes were real.

An just yelled louder and louder for Rui to win, which resulted in Ichika cheering louder for her girlfriend. Shiho and Honami were both on the same boat, and also cheered for their band member.

Mafuyu watched the entire thing like a hawk, while Kanade smiled gently, seeing at how interested her friend was. Ena just looked extremely lost. Mizuki just began cheering for Rui louder and louder, just like An.

Minori was switching between cheering for Rui or cheering for Saki. Haruka just clapped, unsure whose side she should be on. Shizuku mostly cheered and clapped for Saki, but occasionally she would say something along the lines of “You can also do it, Kamishiro-san”. Airi just clapped in a similar fashion to Haruka, but had the same expression as Kohane.

Emu began loudly cheering for both Rui and Saki all at once, which did not make sense… Nene just cheered for Rui saying he practiced enough for this day.

Both of them were still going strong, actually. Saki seemed unbothered, and Rui looked as if he was enjoying a simple stroll in the park. Good thing they all put a timer in case this goes on for too long, only 20 seconds left. It was simple for either of them to slip up, way too simple…

Saki tried moving around, trying to somehow catch Rui off guard while also keeping her juggling pace just fine. Rui settled for pretending to lose his pace, trying to somehow make Saki overestimate herself, and fail.

10 more seconds… so he's cheering for no one, huh?

9 more seconds… it wouldn’t hurt, right?

8 more seconds… this was a horrible idea.

7 more seconds… you only live once, right?

6 more seconds… he might surprise his sister, and make her fail…

fuck it.

“GO RUI, GO!” He yelled on top of his lungs.

Rui smiled far too wide, far too manically, like a cat who got the cream. Saki stared in shock, and immediately dropped one of the things she was juggling. Oh god, he really did just make his sister fail…

“WHAT THE HELL, ONII-CHAN?”

“AHAHA! It seems I have won, once and for all!”

Emu took out her whistle— where did she even get it from?— and blew it. The sound cut through air, like a knife cutting through the thick tension. “THE BEST JUGGLER IN THE GROUP CHAT… IS OFFICIALLY RUI-KUN!” She yelled

Mizuki stood up, and began yelling “THAT’S MY BOY.” while An began wiping fake tears saying “I knew he could do it…”

Saki planted one of her feet on the ground. “I demand a rematch.”

Rui chuckled. “Maybe another time, but for now, I’m officially the best juggler.” He smirked.

She furrowed her eyebrows, before she instead smiled. She stretched her hand out, and he shook it. “It was fun juggling against you.” He said.

“Hehe, likewise, Rui-san—”

“WHO WANTS TO PLAY SOME FUN GAMES!” Emu yelled.

Akito sighed so hard, as if he was trying to get rid of any bit of air in his lungs.

“Why are we hiding together?” Rui's gaze switched between An and Mizuki.

Mizuki opened her mouth. “Because, Rui…”

“Friendship is magic.” An finished.

He groaned. He should’ve followed Tsukasa-kun, or Emu-kun, or even Nene at this point, literally anyone was better. When the 3 of them get put together, it's like a shitshow waiting to happen, and all 3 of them are clowns.

He hopes Tsukasa found a good hiding place, his sister probably is prepared to turn over the whole stage to find him after the stunt he pulled today.

“WE WON TSUKASA-KUN!” Emu and Tsukasa high fived one another.

“YOU GUYS PARKOURED ON TOP OF THE STAGE. That’s unfair, right?” Airi yelled in confusion.

Somehow, everything was even more confusing than just the regular texts in the group chat. Everyone felt a bit more unhinged in real life, and she wasn’t even sure if that was a good or bad thing.

Toya cleared his throat. “Should we maybe play another game? One hide and seek round took two hours.” Everyone turned to look at him like he was crazy.

He held his watch up. 21:06, it really did take them 2 hours to play a round of hide and seek.

“It’s…It’s getting late, should we just go home?” Minori asked.

Tsukasa nodded. “Yeah, this was supposed to be just a dumb contest and also maybe playing some games together, but I think all of us forgot just how many people would be here.” Everyone nodded in union.

Akito's wrist bumped Tsukasas. “Today was fun bro, you aren’t…all that bad.” He mumbled the last part. The blond just laughed and ruffled the juniors head.

“ALL OF YOU GET HOME SAFE!” Everyone but Rui, Ichika and Saki nodded. As everyone walked off, leaving the 4 of them alone at the wonderstage, Saki turned to her brother.

“Onii-chan… Is it fine if I go to Icchan's house for a sleepover?” She pleaded. She used her best puppy eyes to stare, that she knew her brother was weak for, and a weak man he was.

“Of course, Saki! You girls just make sure to stay safe!”

“THANK YOU ONII-CHAN! GOODBYE ONII-CHAN!”

“Goodbye, Tsukasa-san—” Ichika yelped as Saki dragged her away from the stage.

“What are you still doing here?” He quizzically gazed at Rui.

The taller one just laughed. “Nothing, I just thought the stunt you pulled today was funny. Did Saki-kun do anything recently to annoy you? Is that why you cheered for me instead?”

“No…

I— I think I just wanted you to win. It's as simple as that. I just wanted you to win.”

The gentle wind blowing Rui's hair that very second did not help at all with the smile he was giving him. That smile made him feel warm, it made him feel secure, it made him feel… happy. Of course only Rui could make him feel this way, of course he could make Tsukasa's mind fog up and instead be full of pictures of him, of course he could make him short circuit.

“Tsukasa-kun—”

“Would you look at the time, I must—”

“Tsukasa.” Rui grabbed his wrist, when he pathetically tried to run away.

Sleeping in the same bed as his crush that he’s in denial about, totally normal, totally fine. This has happened before and there was nothing wrong! Then again, finally having to face his feelings now is making this a lot harder than it actually is.

They both just laid next to each other, their backs on the bed, the blanket barely covering them. Rui’s callused hand went to intertwine itself with Tsukasa’s, making itself at home.

This was fine, this was normal, this was survivable—

Rui turned on his side, to gaze at Tsukasa. God, with the moonlight illuminating him, he looked ethereal. He was screwed, wasn’t he? He’s probably gonna melt alive tonight, and turn into a puddle, with a lack of consciousness. That would be preferable actually, maybe then he wouldn’t have this dumb forbidden crush on his director, and best friend.

“Tsukasa-kun… are you finally ready to tell me just what happened during that dinner, when your parents were home?”

“Tsukasa, please.” His grip on his hand tightened. “You can’t just bottle this up, you can’t just keep doing this. Tsukasa, I’m begging you, just please tell me what happened that day—”

“Rui—” His voice cracked. “Rui, I-I… I want to tell you, really, I do, but I just can’t.”

“And that’s exactly what you need to stop doing.” His face looked like he faced despair.

“I can’t tell you, specifically, but I have told somebody—”

“Why not me? Tsukasa, do you not trust me? Do you not believe in me? What happened to the promise we made after the Halloween show, the promise of believing and trusting one another?”

“I trust you, Rui. But for now, I can’t tell you about it—”

“It’s already been so long, what are—” Tsukasa put his free hand over Rui's mouth.

“Let me speak please.” He removed his hand, Rui kept his mouth shut this time, good. “I can’t tell YOU just yet, but I have managed to tell… someone. Akito figured me out the day it all happened, and I came clean to him the second I joined the call with him. I managed to tell Toya about it, it felt good to tell him about it. I also know Saki has an idea about what's going on, just not the full image— Oh, and Emu figured me out the second she saw me face to face, the only option I had was to come clean.”

“But… w-why not me? Why can’t I also know the truth?”

“Because then everything would be happening too fast, and I can’t handle that right now.” He pleaded.

Luckily enough, it seems that it struck a nerve, or something. Whatever it was, it made Rui’s resolve falter and his eyes softened up again.

“Fine, okay, I’ll wait some more, I can do that, mhm.” He grumbled. Like a big, overgrown, child.

Tsukasa giggled at his director's antics. He let go of Rui's hand, just to open up his arms. “Come here, you overgrown manchild.”

The speed Rui lunged at him was actually impressive. Well, not really. He probably was waiting to do this all night, this practically became their ritual every time they had a sleepover which was fairly often. Laying down next to one another, just… talking, and then cuddling one another until they fall asleep. Normal friendship things, mhm, totally!

“Stop overthinking things, you stupidly radiant star. Just relax, and also sleep.” He said, as seemed to be trying to merge himself with Tsukasa's collarbone.

In Rui’s arms, he could finally be himself. He could finally relax. He doesn’t have to be Tsukasa Tenma, world future star, and the perfect actor. He doesn’t have to be the perfectly obedient son. He doesn’t have to be anyone. He can just be Rui’s, and Rui can just be his.

When the day finally comes, he hopes they can officially become something.

They went to sleep at a relatively early time in Rui's opinion! But they ended up waking up at around 3 AM because of the random noise from outside. Tsukasa was too panicked over what it could’ve been, which quickly also snapped Rui to his senses.

Now, his insomnia hit harder than ever before. On the bright side of everything, Nene was still up gaming. Rui knew she was awake because of the light from her bedroom window, and also because it seemed like she was talking to someone. A quick text sent to her on Nightcord, and here they were! Wonderlands X Showtime playing Minecraft together at an unholy time.

What a good sleepover, thank god they don’t have school tomorrow morning.

“Ah, Tsukasa-senpai?” Toya tilted his head, and closed his phone.

“What are you doing here?”

Tsukasa grabbed his junior's hand, making him rise up. The grip on his hand was… hard. It wasn’t like the typical grip when they occasionally were affectionate to one another, but it felt urgent. Just what could’ve happened? Is senpai alright?

Tsukasa glanced around nervously, before speaking up. “Toya, let's have lunch together, today.”

Toya perked up at that. “Sure.”

Somewhere else in the school, Rui Kamishiro asked the same thing of Akito.

“Let’s have lunch together, we need to talk.”

“...Sure?”

And in another school, Emu didn’t waste even a second before finding Kohane.

“KOHANE-CHAN! PLEASE LETS HAVE LUNCH TOGETHER!”

“Emu— S-Sure? What's the occasion?"

“I’ll tell you while we eat.”

They decided to sit down in the school courtyard, in a secluded corner, away from everyone else. It wasn’t a sunny day, in fact you could see rain clouds in the distance. There were a few people out, Toya could recognize some of his other seniors too, but no Kamishiro-senpai in sight all day, huh?

As they both sat down on a bench, Tsukasa turned to him. “Toya, I heard about what happened yesterday.” His tone was suddenly serious. Much quieter than normal too, actually.

“I was going to tell you. I’m sorry if you feel disappointed that we lost, we really—”

Tsukasa glared at him. “Is that seriously what you focus on?” He sighed. “Toya, listen up, and I’m only going to say this once.” He put both of his hands on his shoulders. It wasn’t a painful grip, but it was enough to hold him in place.

“Toya, I know what happened to Shiraishi. Her finding out that the woman she viewed as an aunt was dead all along, and the people she grew up alongside with lied to her? It was… cruel, and I wasn’t even there. That Taiga guy, whatever, just served to humiliate you guys because he was bitter. I expected much better of you, Akito and Azusawa. Based on what I heard, you followed Akito's lead blindly, despite him being in the wrong. Toya, your friend was grieving, and the 3 of you prioritized singing over her mental health.”

This… It hurt, it hurt having to hear it being said out loud. It hurt realizing just how wrong he was. It hurt to know he was guilty. It hurt to know that Tsukasa of all people was disappointed in him, anyone but him would’ve been better.

Tsukasa lightly squeezed his shoulders. “I’m not mad at you. I know you weren’t sure what to do during that situation, but I need you to know what you did was wrong.”

He stared at his hands, which were on his lap, guiltily. “I know, I’m so stupid— It shouldn’t have taken me so long to realize.” He failed his friend, huh?

The older ruffled his hair a bit. “You aren’t stupid, Toya, you were put into a situation you didn’t want to be in, or could handle. Even so, I need you to understand that Shiraishi was devastated. She was grieving, Toya. Her relationship with Nagi…

Toya, if I died, what would you do?”

If… Senpai died? What would he do if he died? What kind of question is that?

“They were close, Toya, probably as close as us even. We aren’t related by blood, but we still have a deep bond. I want you to put yourself into her shoes, imagine if I died instead. Imagine that Saki and everyone else lied to you about my death, saying I was away training to become a better actor. Toya, learning that it was all a lie, and that you’ll never see me again… wouldn’t it hurt— TOYA?”

He hugged Tsukasa, not because he was hurt, but because of a stupid thought.

He should’ve checked on Shiraishi. He should’ve made sure she was fine. If losing Nagi could compare to him losing Tsukasa… He was a bad friend. He should’ve at least checked on her this morning, he should’ve asked her how she was, he should’ve asked her if she was fine, if she wanted to talk.

“It's your life, so you should live it your way. If you don't like it, then just say so!” said a young boy. His uniform was black, and he looked tired. Despite everything, he was the closest thing he had to family.

“I-I’m sorry.” He gripped him tighter. The idea of losing him hurt. “I’ll apologize to her… I’ll set things straight, I’m so sorry.”

Akito crossed his arms. “Cut the crap, I know damn well you have something to tell me.”

Kamishiro-senpai smiled at him, but in an eerie fashion. It wasn’t like his normal, smug looking smile. Everything felt off. Toya being taken away by Tsukasa-senpai, Kamishiro-senpai asking him to eat lunch together? Also, he hasn’t seen An at all today.

“Fufufu, Shinonome-kun is so direct!” He laughed, but it was clearly fake. “Very well then! You obviously remember yesterday, no?”

Well, this is just confusing now. “Yeah, obviously?”

“What the fuck were you thinking?”

Okay, wow, he does not curse. What the hell happened? “What do you mean? Did I do something wrong?”

“Oh, I don’t know. Your friend was grieving the death of someone important, yet instead of comforting her, you decided to lead the rest of your group. You decided that going against that asshole would be a good opportunity to show off your skills—”

“THATS NOT WHAT IT WAS ABOUT.”

“Then what was it about, hm? Shinonome-kun, you know what you did wrong. Imagine losing a family member, finding out they were dead all along, would you just gloss over it? Would you be happy if your friends ignored it, and your declining mental state?” His tone remained steady. His face didn’t show any emotion. It was cold, so very cold.

His throat felt dry. “...No. I wouldn’t be happy.”

Rui raised an eyebrow at his guilty expression. Not impressed, but not judging him either.

“You need to apologize. I don’t care that it won’t fix anything, Shiraishi deserves at least an apology.” His tone softened a bit, compared to earlier.

Akito stared at the rain clouds coming their way. They matched the day's mood. He deserved this, and it was clear.

Not once did he think he should apologize, not once did he think about what he did wrong. He should’ve taken notice. Just when he found a place to belong, people who wanted him, he just ended up pushing one of them away accidentally, and hurting them.

“I will, not now, but I will. I’ll apologize before practice.”

Kamishiro-senpai smiled at him, genuinely. “I’m glad.”

Emu patted the empty seat next to her, and Kohane moved to sit down.

“I don’t think I need to explain why I wanted to have lunch alone with you.” Her tone wasn’t as bubbly. It was soft, but it wasn’t her regular one.

Kohane stared a bit at her in confusion, before it clicked. “...Oh, is it because of yesterday?”

Emu nodded. “I’m not going to point out everything, because I know you well enough. I know you have an idea of what you did wrong, don’t you?” She tilted her head.

She was right. Kohane knew what she did wrong, she knew she hurt An-chan. She knew she shouldn’t have followed Shinonome-kun's lead. She should’ve comforted An, but the chance to go against Taiga was right there… She shouldn’t have been blinded by a stupid opportunity.

She began fidgeting in her seat. “I know, I know I hurt An-chan.”

Emu smiled, still so gentle. “Thats good, you should apologize, you know? It may not fix everything, but it might cheer her up a bit.”

This time, it was Kohane's turn to smile. “Okay, I’ll do that. Thank you, Emu-chan.”

“Hehehe, it was nothing. Let’s enjoy lunch now!”

Toya rushed out of school. This time, he didn’t wait for Akito. He knew An was already at Weekend Garage, so the only thing he did was rush to get there first. He wanted to apologize to her before Akito, before Azusawa, before they both realized what they also did wrong.

He wanted to apologize before practice, he wanted to set things straight before they could go back to normal, he wanted to admit his mistake. He was wrong, and he felt guilty, but he was going to set things straight again.

He walked down the street he grew used to, the distinctive area felt like home. It was like a welcome mat put in front of the door. The Vivid Street greeted him.

He pushed the door to Weekend Garage open. He must have been very lucky, because Ken was nowhere to be seen, and the only other person there was Shiraishi.

“Shiraishi, can we talk?”

She quickly turned around, eyes blown open at his arrival. “You’re very early?”

He didn’t budge. “Can we talk?”

She seemed to become nervous. “...Sure, there's no one here but us, so just say it. Dad closed the cafe for today, and said he had something to do today.”

Toya relaxed a bit at that. If he fumbled his apology, no one will be there to witness it. He took a deep breath in, preparing for what he was about to say. Since the talk with senpai, he has been thinking all day about what to say to her, about how to apologize.

“Shiraishi, I’m sorry.”

“...Eh?” An looked like a fish out of water.

Toya's face remained serious. “I’m sorry for what I did yesterday, I should’ve taken your feelings into account. I know now just how much Nagi-san must’ve meant to you, and I’m sorry. I should’ve comforted you, and allowed you to grieve.”

Her shoulders began shaking. Despite the tears you could see forming, she was smiling. “So it did work… Toya, thank you for apologizing. I won’t promise that everything will be perfect again, but I’m just happy you realized your mistake. Thank you for apologizing, I think I needed it—”

The door to the cafe slammed open, there stood Akito, with Kohane behind him. “You beat us to it.”

An’s gaze switched between Toya, Akito and Kohane. She seemed more shocked at the fact that Akito and Kohane got there so soon, too. All of them came earlier than normal, and it was for one singular goal.

To apologize.

Kohane moved from Akito, to hug An. “An-chan, I’m so sorry about yesterday. I’m so sorry I didn’t comfort you, or that I just refused to talk to you after everything! I’m so sorry, An-chan.” Kohane wailed a bit.

Toya noticed how Akito hugged himself tighter. He was clearly guilty. Toya locked eyes with him, and smiled, it seemed to do the job because Akito wasn’t as tense anymore.

As Kohane let go of An, Akito stepped forward. “I’m sorry for being an asshole. I shouldn’t have been blinded by that stupid opportunity. That fucking bastard just told you probably the most devastating news of your life, I should’ve punched him instead of indulging in his stupid request. An, I’m sorry. I know this won’t fix shit, but I want you to know we are here for you, and we are sorry.” Akito lightly punched her shoulder.

Now, you could easily see the tears streaming down her face. She wasn’t sad, though, she was grinning. She was happy, maybe even relieved. Seeing her smile like this again felt… normal.

An opened up her arms, signaling for the 3 of them to get in. “I-If the 3 of you don’t come here right now, I’ll cry eve— even harder.”

Kohane lunged herself into her arms. Akito playfully rolled his eyes, but still joined the hug. Toya just chuckled, before joining the rest of his friends.

Yeah, this felt right.

“I forgive you all. Now, let’s sing till our throats hurt.” Said An, but her words were a bit muffled by the 3 people in her arms.

Toya smiled. “Idealy not, let's just try improving.”

“Booo, lame.”

The only sounds backstage were all caused by Tsukasa, and his anxious steps while walking back and forth.

“Okay, so the costumes are all fine, we have our make up done, we all can remember the script and our cues, the robot Rui made is fine…” Their leader kept mumbling to himself while pacing.

Nene didn’t ever bat an eye, and kept gaming on her console, waiting for it to be showtime. Emu seemed fidgety— she was likely just worried about Tsukasa-kun, though. Rui just leaned against the wall, focused on observing Tsukasa. His stare was that of a hawk, Nene looked at him once, then immediately went back to her game. His pining, not her problem.

Rui checked his phone, just 8 more minutes til it’s showtime. Yeah, he should actually get Tsukasa to calm down a bit, unless he wants his star actors acting to be worse.

He walked up to the other, like approaching a scared animal. “—Every prop we need is here, right? We didn’t—”

“Tsukasa-kun, are you alright?” Rui put a hand on his shoulder. The way Tsukasa jumped was almost funny, if it weren’t for how shaky he has been all day.

Tsukasa stared to the side. “I’m fine,” He laughed, but it was clearly fake. “You know, just excited! Ha ha ha...”

Nene raised her head at that, but quickly went back to her game. Thankfully she knows when to mind her business. Emu just looked thankful that Rui did something, she wasn’t sure how to go about helping Tsukasa.

“Tsukasa-kun, it’s fine to be worried.” Rui tried assuring his friend.

Maybe he's still hoping that will change soon, but sue him for having feelings for someone like Tsukasa.

Tsukasa finally met his gaze, and stopped fidgeting in place. “...It’s just hard to calm down.”

Emu rose up from where she was sitting, and grabbed one of their leader’s hands. “Tsukasa-kun, you have us. If anything goes wrong on your part, we will be there to help you pick it up again!” She said, determined.

Ah, Emu and her helpful nature always soothed them. If anything went wrong, she really was going to be there to help them fix it. At the end of the day, she was a great friend to the three of them, he’s thankful for that.

Nene closed her console, and went up to the three of them. “They’re right, moron. It’s showtime in 2 minutes, let's go.”

Rui and Emu rushed past, both worried about being late. Nene and Tsukasa stood there together for a bit. “We got your back, just like you got ours, don’t worry.” And with that, Nene left to head towards the stage. Tsukasa rushed to catch up with her.

“Prince, you will never escape your fate. You were cursed to be unloveable for a reason, how could anyone ever love you? That alchemist…” His ex guard held her sword to his neck. Her gaze was stern, and her voice dripped with venom. An unloveable prince, huh?

They decided on a bit of a ‘darker’ play this time around. It was still family friendly enough, but it had some darker themes, and some more mature concepts.

He played the role of the prince, cursed to never be loved by anyone, not even his own family. Nene played the role of his ex guard, who turned on him after realizing he was more work than it was worth. Emu played the role of a witch, who wanted to help Tsukasa break his curse, not out of love but curiosity. Rui…

The role of an alchemist he met, who he paid to accompany him. The prince and the alchemist grow closer and closer, to the point where the lines between friendship and love blend.

The prince wasn’t unloveable because of a curse, he was unloveable because everyone chose to believe a lie about him. One that got engraved into his brain, one that even he began believing in.

The alchemist and prince were written to develop a bond as close to lovers, so that might have been one of his biggest worries.

Playing the role of lovers with Rui…

“I love him, I love him so much it hurts to think about. I’m foolish to think he might ever love me back, but for once, can I not dream?”

His ex guard held her sword tighter. “Dreaming is only for idiots.”

An idiot he was, truly.

“Thank you all for attending our show.” Tsukasa said, then bowed together with his troupe.

He saw Azusawa and Toya clapping. Azusawa was smiling so brightly that it was similar to Emu's own smiles. Toya smiled harder than usual, and oh, how it was a good look on him. He's glad Toya found some great friends, despite Akito and Shiraishi not being here this time around.

He almost felt like he was dreaming, the applause felt amazing. The show really was a success, and he was worried for nothing. They all have grown since that small argument they had when Wonderlands X Showtime first formed.

The curtain closed, and suddenly he was back on earth.

He jogged backstage, with his fellow actors being right behind him. Emu nearly rushed past him to get to her water, while Nene just passed out on the nearest couch. Rui just leaned against one of the walls backstage.

“The show went really well, I did not expect the crowd to be that enthusiastic.” Nene stated, more as a matter of fact.

Emu nodded. “It felt so good, though, it was also super duper fun. I’m glad everyone seemed to like the show!” She clasped her hands together. Rui and Nene laughed, while Tsukasa just fondly shook his head.

“It was great, but without you guys, it wouldn’t have been as good.”

“AW, Tsukasa-kun, that’s so sweet!” The dreamer giggled.

He went to ruffle her hair. “Yeah, well you all deserve it after today.” Emu turned a bit red, meanwhile her girlfriend looked closer to a ruby, telling him to shut up.

“Me and Nene-chan are going to go get changed, we will be back!” Emu dragged her girlfriend away with her.

Tsukasa just turned to Rui. “Without you, the show wouldn’t have had such an impact, alchemist.”

“Oh, my dear prince, don’t sell yourself short.” He said, as he went to stand in front of Tsukasa.

Maybe it was the after show euphoria, but Rui looked… different. He was always gentle, but something about his eyes this time screamed nothing else but love. Rui was staring at him with love in his eyes, and the light backstage did nothing but make him look even more beautiful.

Rui cupped his face with one of his calloused hands, and he would be lying if he said he didn’t feel his knees weaken at that. He felt as if he was being held like glass, so gently and careful.

He looked him in the eyes. In Rui's golden eyes, the only thing he could actually notice was a question. Tsukasa nodded, despite still being unsure.

Rui leaned in. It wasn’t perfect, clearly neither of them do have experience, but for a simple kiss… it meant everything. Rui's hand on his cheek grounding him, together with his lips, the silence backstage, the situation was unreal. In Rui’s arms— he felt loved, and he knew it.

Oh, but what is he thinking?

What would his parents think? What if they ever meet Rui, and hurt him instead? What if he really is too much for Rui to handle?

Rui pulled away, after feeling Tsukasa freeze up. “Tsukasa-kun—”

The blond pushed him away. “I’m sorry, Rui, I… I have to— I’m sorry.” Was all he said, before he ran like his life depended on it.

The picture of Tsukasa, teary eyed and regretful will become engraved in his head. Did he regret doing it with Rui? Or was he still unable to face his feelings? Just what is the truth?

“TSUKASA.” He reached out. But Tsukasa was already long gone.

In the end, the alchemist stood alone, without his prince.

Maybe he just needs more time to think… that’s fine.

Tsukasa-kun, I’ll wait as long as I have to.
