In Melancholy Hill

Summary:

Andromeda Rogers can finally breathe. Sure, the world went to hell and back. Sure, her father figure abandoned her when she was at her new record low. Sure, the emptiness on her chest was slowly spreading, and she didn’t know how to stop it. But for the first time in her twenty-six years of life there was no imminent threat, no nearby danger, no battle to prepare for. She only had to worry about feeding her cats, taking her latest bakery project out on time, and completing whatever mission her newly appointed Congressman-roommate had for her. And this was enough.

Her latest mission: helping to get Valentina Allegro de Fontaine impeached, or put in jail - whichever one came first.

During her last routine (secret) check-up on one of Valentina’s minions, she overhears about a vault, containing Valentina’s secrets and Bucky’s so desired evidence. She follows the U.S. Agent to the middle of nowhere, Utah, where she soon finds herself trapped a mile under a mountain, with people who don’t necessarily love her, and a man who claims to know her.

Problem is, she doesn’t know him.

Notes:

so excited to finally post here! been wanting to do this for a while, but idk im just not brave enough to just do it. hope you all like it, will update again soon, for now, enjoy the extended version of the summary (i know its not much sorry but i promise a lot more soon)

IMPORTANT - the work is tagged as Bob x Reader (now also as Bob x OC). Andromeda is an OC but she is meant to be a self-insert, and I wanted you to read this as an x Reader, I just don't *actually* know how to write that

Chapter 1: Extended Summary

Chapter Text

He has seen her more times than he can count.

But it seems that this time - against everything he has convinced himself to be true - she is not a hallucination. Everyone can see her. She is real. She is truly just a few feet away from him.

Problem is, she doesn’t remember him.

I mean, why would she? How could she? He clearly wasn’t as important to her as she was to him. She was the centre of his world. He was just a speck of dust, a no-one, irrelevant. Not much to know, much less to remember.

But he spent years of his life searching for her, yearning for her. He would rather die than let her go. Them meeting like this, at the most random, out-of-nowhere, secret underground facility had to mean something. Surely, it has to be a sign that the universe doesn’t hate him, that he deserves a second chance at happiness.

She will remember, she must. Else, he might truly be lost to the void.
