Work Text:

Eugenides - as - Anthony Cade
While Sophos would also (or perhaps even better) fit the reveal of being a prince at the end, it is Gen's move. Also, all the other hijinks Anthony Cade gets up to feels perfectly Gen. I've put Gen in the very fashionable BIG PANTS of the mid-1920s.
Irene - as - Virginia Revel
As the intelligent, curious, and competent pair to Anthony Cade, Irene would obviously be Virginia Revel. I imagine her as wearing a closet like Miss Fisher's.
Pheris - as - Superintendent Battle
It feels right for Pheris to be the detective that Gen immediately trusts and understands to be hyper-competent. I've given him a very typical male professional-class outfit. Nothing fancy.

Sophos - as - Hiram Fish
Just like Hiram Fish, Sophos is underestimated and overlooked. I thought he would look charming in a cuddly sweater and athletic wear.
Helen - as - Lady Eileen Brent
This assignment is 95% based on the scene where Eileen is driving the car WAY too fast and freaks out Anthony Cade. 5% it is because she is the only other non-evil woman in the book. *sigh* I've put her in the most masculine athletic wear I could find early 1920s women wearing in a photo.
The Magus - as - George Lomax
He would be the kind of oblivious government agent. He gets a boring-ass suit without even a nice collar BUT he has done his hair nicely.

Dite - as - Bill Eversleigh
He's in love with Virginia Revel (Irene) but she is absolutely never going to marry him. It's Dite. I've put him in the dashing, typical young men's wear of the time.
Kamet - as - James McGrath
He goes on an international trip to bring a plot-relevant piece of information to Anthony(Gen)? Kamet is the best choice here, and I love the vibe of him coming into the story right at the end again and being completely blind-sided by Gen being more than just his army colleague. He's wearing a relatively fashionable version of work-wear.
Baron Erondites - as - King Victor (aka Monsieur Chelles, M Lemoine of the Surete, Captain O’Neill, and Nicholas)
It pained me to give the Baron such a smart role, but he is Gen's most in-the-face opponent who is trying to take his place as King. King Victor steals the role of Prince Nicholas quite literally. I've put the Baron in a British hunting outfit that I thought looked stupidly self-obsessed.

OTHER CHARACTERS
Sounis - as - Lord Caterham
A guy who caves to all of George Lomax(the Magus)'s requests but desperately tries to avoid those requests at the same time? It's Sounis.
Hector - as - Prince Michael
Sorry, but someone needs to die, Hector had a claim to the throne, and he DOES canonically die. RIP Hector.
Iktenos - as - Count Stylptitch from Herzoslovakia
Eugenides' grandfather WOULD write a memoir that everyone freaks out about and thinks will reveal crucial and uncomfortable state secrets.
Marina Erondites Susa - as - the Governess/Miss Brun (aka Angele Mory, and Queen Varaga)
I DID have to trawl through the wiki to remember all the weird shenanigans Erondites gets up to. Marina Erondites Susa, his daughter, is "described as being only one of her siblings to have the intelligence for the political intrigues her father wishes of Dite and Sejanus, but was dismissed as a woman," which works here.
Baron Susa's son - as - the previous King of Herzoslovakia
There is no reason for this except that Marina marries him.
Ornon - as - Count from Herzoslovakia
A respected but ultimately outwitted ambassador? It's Ornon.
Sejanus - as - Giuseppe Manuelli
RIP Giuseppe. You provided some interesting entertainment for Irene and Gen while also being a pain in their ass.
Pol - as - Boris Anchoukoff
A quiet manservant who recognizes the true identity of Eugenides but doesn't say anything outright? It's Pol.
Yorn Fordad - as - Herman Isaacstien
American oil interests feels a lot like the continent's distant meddling in the Peninsula's politics.
Costis - M Lemoine of the Surete
If I wasn't more compelled by making Kamet be James McGrath, that would have been a good position for Costis. Instead, he gets to be mostly off-screen, kidnapped, and replaced by Baron Erondites. Gen does also end up kind of saving him by accident. It's tough to be Costis.
With infinite time, I would reimagine various scenes from the book with these designed characters. Considering the limits on my time, I offer just one:

Gen and Irene, exchanging information and planning detective-y deeds, on the lake.
