Chapter Text
Set on the episode of "A Real Rain" S1 E17
Morgan and him where on a coffee shop near their hotel looking at the files, the images were horrific to whom wasn't used to see the grotesque and horrid that that job could offer. It was a particular case in New York City, Spencer was tired of cases like this, it shows the worst of the humanity, people who turned into monsters or maybe they were already monsters diguise as humans. Some of them believe that they were doing a good to the world.
"The real world is where the monsters are." said a voice behind him.
He turned around, he saw a guy, a man, the most amazing eyes that he'd seen in his life, a blue sea green just like an ocean in a good day, pitch black long hair just like the night with a white strand adorning it.
"What?" said Morgan
"Oh I'm sorry, it's just those pictures aren't something someone see every day."
"Well when you have our work, you do."
"Fuck."
"That's a way to put it."
"Well, I came here to ask if you would like anything else? I almost close up and as you see you guys are the only ones here."
Spencer looked around the place just to see the guy was right, he rubbed his hands together.
"Yeah, more coffe black, please." said morgan
"Uh, mine with..."
"Three of sugar? on it."
"You rememberd my order?"
"It's his job Reid."
" Actually, I only remeber the ones that come from pretty faces." he wink at him and left, Spencer could feels his cheeks turn red.
Morgan couldn't help but laugh, taping his arm's friend.
"God, look at that, pretty boy."
"Wha-what? what had just happend?"
"That guy just hit on you!"
The doctor gape his mouth, trying to process all that.
"What are you doing still sitting there? go talk to him!"
"What? No! we have to work on the case!"
"The case can wait a couple of hours. Unless...you are not into guys."
"It is not that...I...What I am even gonna tell him? I don't do well with people or small talk."
"You'll do fine, go!"
He fixed his hair and jacket and went to the counter; he was there, he worked with the machine making the coffee, he cleared his throat as a way to say that he was there. The guy looked at his way and smiled, teeth white and sharp like a dog, no, it was more like a wolf.
"Just give me two minutes to finish your coffee." he said
"Oh, yeah, sure...uh..."
The smile faded whe he noticed the nervousness.
"Oh I'm sorry, did I made you unconfortable? I apologise if I did, I didn't mean it."
"No! it's not that I just...I'm not used to people hitting on me like that."
The smile came back.
"So no one had called you pretty before?" he approached until he leaned against the bar.
He blushed again.
"Uh, no, not like that."
"So, a cop then?"
"Uh, detective, well doctor in fact, I mean, I work with detectives but I am a Doctor."
The guy frown his eyebrows but the smile was still there, evidently entertained by the babbling.
"I mean... I work for the FBI. The BAU."
"So an Agent then, a Doctor Agent. Are you here for that serial killer?"
"Yeah. I cannot give details thoug."
"Oh no, don't worry. I don't like hearing about that kind of crap."
"What do you like then?"
"I like the beach, surfing, skate, I...work out."
"Did you know that surfing was a common practice among the inhabitants of the Hawaiian Islands since the 15th century. It was used by tribal leaders who faced the sea to demonstrate their power and superiority." He couldn't help it, it was like his body couldn't help but empty out all that information, it was like a verbal vomit. He regreat it instantly.
But he didn't get the reaction he spected.
"That's...wow, I actually didn't knew that. Quite interesting, thank you."
With that Reid smiled.
"What's your name? You aren't wearing a tag."
"Wow pretty, how observant of you. My name is Percy."
"Percy." he taste it in his mouth, what a particular name "Is that a short for something?"
"Promise not to laugh?"
"Of course."
"Perseus."
"Like the constellation?"
This seemed to really surprise the bartender.
"Constellation?"
"Yeah, between Auriga and Cassiopeia and crossed by the Milky Way. It also means..."
"Destroyer. Pretty and smart, the gods really made you well. But no, or well, I don't think my mom was thinking about that, I was name after the Greek hero."
He didn't missed the mention of "gods", but he didn't say anything about it.
"I like to read." was everything he could say.
"Really? My mom is an author. I? I can't even read the newspaper." he laugh.
"You don't like it?"
"It is not that. I am like, super dislexic. I've tried but it doesn't end well for me."
"Kind of ironic, isn't it?"
"Yeah, I know. And do you live here?"
"No, we are only here for the case, I live in Virginia but I grew up in Las Vegas."
"Vegas? I've only been there once."
"I asume in base of your accent that you're from here."
"Born and raised. I used to travel a lot, I imagine that you do."
"Yeah, we go wherever they need us. I don't get to see much thoug."
The coffee machine made a sound, dispersing them from their small conversation. Percy grabbed two cups, pour the coffee and added two spoons of sugar to one of them, then he handed them to Spencer.
"I didn't catch your name either."
"Oh, Spencer, Spencer Reid."
"So, Agent Doctor Spencer Reid. Now thats a great name."
He laugh.
"Yeah well. It is what it is."
"You guys can stay as long as you want."
"Thank you, but, you wont get in trouble with your boss?"
"Oh, let me ask him."
He turn his torso to one side.
"Boss, I'm gonna close later, is that ok?" he turned again "Not at all."
Spencer laugh again.
"See? Everyting's good, don't worry."
The agent smiled at the surfer before going back to his friend.
"Well done tigger." he said
"He didn't laugh at my facts, like in a mocking way." he said amazed.
He pat his arm again.
"Incredible."
They stayed there for not long, they finished their coffees and write their notes about the case, Morgan send Spencer to pay and say goodbye to his "Romeo" as he called him.
"Oh don't worry about it." he said
"What? no, I can't accept it. Take it."
"It's fine. I own the place, remember? I can give myself the pleasure of buying a coffee for someone as intelligent and attractive as you."
Again, the blush.
"Are you sure?"
"Totally." he took out a napking and handed to him "And if you got the time after you finish your case, I could give you a tour. If you want of course."
He took it with a smile.
"I guess I'll see you later."
When they got out Morgan took the napking, it had a number write on it with blue ink.
"Look at that. Your such a gallant!"
"He offered to give me a tour around the city when the case is finished."
"Oh! They grow so fast! Just remember, stay in places where you can be seeing."
"I really don't want any date advice."
"Ok, ok whatever you say tigger."
They walked to the hotel restaurant, the team was already there.
"Guess who has a date?" Yelled Morgan as he grabbed Reid by the shoulders.
J.J clapped her hands.
"Really? I want, no, I need details." Said Elle
"It was just some guy in the coffee shop a couple of blocks from here."
"Wow Reid, great for you."
"You should tell Penelope to do a background check, just to be sure." Said Hotch
"Can we not talk about it? we have to finish this case."
No one mantioned anything, respecting the words of their friend and colleague.
When Spencer returned to his room he called Garcia.
"The great and only eye in the sky, how can I help you this night?"
"Penelope, I need something, it...it is not part of the case. Uh, when you have the time, could you search a man named Perseus who lives in New York?"
"Ok, I don't know how many men are with that name in the city buy I need more information than that, Love."
"Oh, he owns a coffee shop, I'll send you the address."
"You got it. Over and out."
He was just being cautious, but he couldn't help but fall asleep thinking about those ocean green eyes; looking at him.
He was outside of the cafeteria, undecided whether to enter or not, after all Garcia had told him everything, Perseus Jackson, kidnapped at twelve and acussed of terrorism, all charges clear.
Something inside him, the part that worked to solve misteries and puzzles felt intrigue about this guy, but, that was Dr.Reid, BAU Agent, he wanted to be Spencer, just Spencer.
He watched him across the window, he was behind the counter and calling the names for the drinks to carry.
Percy handed one cup to a girl, she was brunette and curly, Spencer could only see her back but he was sure that she was gorgeous.
Then, Percy grabbed her hand, kissed it and then wink at her.
He procced to look at Spencer's direction and smiled, it wasn't like the smile he was giving to the girl, this one was more genuine, without that hint of mischief.
"Hey Frank!" He could hear him frome behind the glass "Could you take over for a bit?"
A really tall and build guy stood up and nodded.
Spencer swallow, nervous when he saw Percy heading his way.
"Hey, you. So, you catch the guy?"
Spencer nodded.
"Uh, ye-yeah. Well, SWAT shoot at him at the end so we don't have a lot to celebrate."
The smile faded, his face showing actually concern, Percy put his hand on the doctor's elbow.
"Are you ok?"
Another think that surprised Spencer, he asked for him, not the serial killer, he didn't want the information, the gossip. He didn't knew if that was a good or a bad sign.
"Yes. I came because we have this day to "relax" and I remembered your offer."
"Great. Let me grabb my jacket." He said before the BAU Agent could react.
"Wait." He said but Percy was already returning.
"What?"
"Wha-what about your job?"
"Oh, Frank and Hazel can handle the Shop." He said camly "She's my cousin and he is her boyfriend and a dear friend of mine. It'll be ok."
"Oh, ok."
They started walking, side by side.
"So, what would you want to see?"
"Hum, I want to see the Empire State and maybe uh...Central Park."
"That's all?"
"Well..."
"Your lucky a friend of mine works at the Empire, you want to see the city from above?"
"Really? Of course!"
They walked from Central Park to the Hudson River, they fed birds and fishes, Percy talked to them in his mind while Spencer watched mesmerized.
"It's like you're attracting them."
Percy laughed.
"My father is a fisherman. We talk the lenguage of the fish."
"I thought he's an english teacher."
Percy raised an eyebrow and that's when Reid knew his mistake. He bit his lip.
"I never told you that." The weird thing was that his smile didn't go away.
"I..."
Percy laughed again, Spencer liked that about him, he appeared to be always laughing or with a smile of any kind on his face.
"Don't worry pretty boy, I figured that since you are a FBI agent you would search me or something, trust me, If I were you I would've run away at the first sight of it. But the fact that you're here tells me something. "
He took a step closer.
"What?"
"Well..."
Another step. The Doctor couldn't look away from his eyes.
"You saw my file and didn't run away so..."
Another step, Reid could feel his heart raising.
"So?"
"You do like me."
He felt nervous, but not in a panic nervous way, his hands were swating. They were apart just by a few inches, the guy looked at him, never setting aside his gaze.
Spencer knew, he could feel it, that space between them, Percy let it just for him to give the final step.
Until now Percy was the one who the initiative, the one who led the moment.
It was his last day in New York and he didn't knew when he was going to come back, he wanted to take the final step, so he did.
He approached the green-eyed man, he put his hand behind his neck and push him towards him, their lips collided and danced. He tasted like ocean. It was a weird description, but it was the first word that came into his mind.
The profiler could felt a hand on his lower back attracting him and another on his face, now being like this, he was more aware of the difference in heights.
They move apart and now Percy wasn't the only one smiling.
"I'll take that as a yes."
It was Reid's turn to laugh.
"Yeah, it's a yes."
He lend his hand and Spencer took it.
"Hey, uhm, so you're carring a gun right now?"
"Oh shit, sorry, yeah I..."
"It's ok, I just felt it and I wanted to be sure."
"Yeah, I can't leave it. I don't like having it thoug."
"You don't?"
Spencer denied.
"It's just...the things you can do with one are just awful. I don't like having it, I don't like using it."
Percy squized his hand.
"I know what you mean, having the power to hurt others with just pushing a button, there shouldn't exist things like that." He sighed "Come on. We have one last stop."
They walked and as they approached he could saw it.
"Agent Doctor Reid, welcome to the Empire State."
Spencer let go his hand and ran closer to the building.
"Build a march 17 of 1930. It was the first building to have more than 100 floors. It has 6,500 windows and 73 elevators, and there are 1,860 corridors from the street level to the 102nd floor. It has a total area of..."
" 257,211 m²; and its base has about 8094 m²."
He looked surprised at the newyorker.
"I almost forgot that you live here."
"Oh I don't know that because I'm from here. My best friend it's an architect, she likes to talk about this stuff and it's hard not to listen."
He took his hand again.
"Let's go see the city from above."
When they got in Percy walked to the front desk, there was a man looking sirius and bored.
"Dave! How are you my man?"
"Hi Percy. Do you have an appointment?" He said without a smile
"Nop. But I want to go to the top, see the city. You know, normal stuff."
"And why would I let you?"
"Because Annie said so, and we both know you can't say no to her."
Dave rolled his eyes and handed him a set of keys.
"I want that back when you return."
"Of course. When I have let you down?"
He walked away with Spencer towards the elevator.
"I really hate elevetors but I don't think you would like to climb a hundred floors worth of stairs."
"Yeah, I don't like them much either but I could collapse if we take that path."
When they got to the end of the building he was atonished by the sight. He could still hear all the noise of the city but thanks to the sun on its setting face it all looked so beautifull.
He could see the river and Central Park, the MET and all sorts of cars and construtions.
He looked back to see if Percy was watching the same wonder as him, but he found him close to the door.
"Not fan of heights?"
Percy nodded.
"They hate me, I hate them. It's mutual."
He laugh.
"How can heights hate you?"
"Oh you'll be surprised."
"Come here." He said.
Percy, recluntatly, step closer.
"So, you've been living here all your life but never saw this?"
"I mean, not from here. It's just, a lot of my family doesn't do well in the skies."
"Are you close to them?"
"For a long time it was just my mother and me, the my first stepfather came, it was an asshole. The he...left and I met my father and all his disfuntional family; some of us are close like Hazel and I, we share this uhm situation and we help each other."
"Situation?"
Percy put a hando on his neck.
"Uhm yeah. Well, turns out my father left because he was married, I'm what you could call a bastard." He laugh but Spencer his hand "It's not as bad as it sounds, but well, my father and his brothers likes to have barstard children so we are quite a few."
"That's..."
"Yeah, I know. But since Paul came and Estelle was born we are our own family. Are you close to yours?"
Reid tensed.
"I...well. My mom and I used...we...I don't see her much. I always travell so I write her letters every day."
"That's good."
"Yeah, I do what I can, or at least I like to think that."
Percy gave his hand a squeeze.
"Are you hungry?"
Spencer nodded.
"I could eat."
"I hope you like cookies."
"Who doesn't?"
"Come on. I have plenty on the Shop."
They took the subway this time, Percy could see that Spencer was tired of walking, he saw how skinny he was, the protective side of him wanted to feed him 'till he was became fat. He really liked him, he liked the facts that came out of his mouth, his strange mannerisms, it was cute.
When they arrived Frank and Hazel where still there, along with Spencer's team.
"Guys?"
"Reid! We just arrived, we wanted some coffee before the flight and Morgan recomend us this place."
"Of course, come in, make yourselfs confortable." Said Percy
"You sure Perce? We can do it, don't worry." Said Frank
"Oh no, I already abused you a lot."
"Ok then, it's ok if we stop to see Sally?"
"Oh you know mom loves to see you."
Hazel smiled.
"A trully goddess." Said Frank as he got out of counter.
"See you tomorrow cusing." Said Hazel while giving him a hug, Percy put a kiss on the top of his head.
Frank approached and also hugged Percy, they gave a couple of claps to each other in the back.
"Cura, cave." Said the girl
"Tu idem."
The got out and Spencer looked surprised.
"You speak latin?"
"Among other things." He took off his jacket.
"Hi, I'm Jennifer Jareau, Spencer's friend."
Percy shook her hand with a smile on his face.
"Oh right, Percy these are Elle Grinaway, Jason Gideon, Aaron Hotchner and Derek Morgan."
"Percy Jackson, a pleasure." Said while shaking hands with Hotch.
"That's a nice tatto right there."
He made a grin.
"Yeah, it's a... family tradition. Did you guys had time to look at the menu? You can ask for anything that you like."
He tied his hair making a small tail, leaving some part down.
Spencer couldn't keep his eyes away, his arms, his beauty, all of it was so handsome.
"Control yourself pretty boy, your almost drooling." Said Morgan to Reid
"Can you blame him? He's hot." Said JJ
"Yeah Spencer, how did you do it?" Said Elle
"I honestly don't know." They watch him from afar.
"So, what do you guys want?"
"Uh, I want a cappuccino." Said JJ
"Me too."
"Just coffee." Said Gideon
"He means black." Said Hotch "I want one too."
"Make it a three."
"Okey. It won't be long."
"Oh do you need help?" Said Reid
"From you? Always."
He blushed as his team mates giggle.
Spencer got to the counter and slide behind it.
"You can grab the cups, will need the ones made of glass for the cappuccinos."
He did as the taller said. Reid watched Jackson put all the ingridients on the machines.
"Could you grab the milk from the fridge?"
As he turned around Percy with a flick of his wrist made the water hotter to accelerate the process.
"Here."
"Thank you Doctor."
"How did you end up with a Coffee Shop?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, you graduate in Marine Biology. And you went to the olympics."
Percy laugh.
"I almos forgot that you know a lot about me."
Spencer laugh.
"Sorry."
"It's ok. Well, this is actually like a temporary job. A couple of friends and I are working on a proyect to clean the oceans, we'll start in two months on California."
"Wow, that's..."
"More like a biologist's job?"
"Yeah, sorry."
"Hey it's ok. I guess I'm going to travell a lot too."
He tored two packs of sugar to put in Reid's coffee and the Agent felt his heart warm.
They finished the drinks and carried them to the table.
"Here you are Agents. I hope you like them."
"You didn't do one for yourself?" Said JJ
"Oh no, I don't drink coffee."
"You own a Coffee Shop but don't drink your coffee?" Said Elle
"I can see the irony trust me. But no, I have severe ADHD so it's a big no for me."
"Still, I feel bad that you don't have a drink or anything."
"You guys like cookies?" He went to the counter again and pull out a bowl with blue chocolate chip cookies. "It's my moms recipe."
"They're blue." Said Gideon
Percy laugh.
"Yep. Blue food it's better than normal food."
They were wairy to take one until Percy grabbed one, Spencer was next.
"Oh wow, these are good."
"Told you."
"So, how did the tour went?"
A spark came into Reid's eyes as he started to rant about all that they saw on the day.
"Glad that someone got to see any of this city."
"Weren't you guys going to explore too?"
"Yeah, we fell aslepp. We just saw somethings."
"And the next case is wating for us..." mumbled JJ
"How do you guys do it? I mean, don't you have vacations or something?"
"We do, but when we get called..."
"We have to answer. "
"Well, If you happen to be in town again you can always come here. It's all on the house, even If I'm not here myself."
"Who is gonna take care of the shop when you leave?" Reid asked.
"As main manager my cousin Nico, and for the staff we came into an agrement to employe kids from a summer camp I used to go."
Morgan tried to grab the last cookie but Elle slapped his hand and took it.
"It helps them make money and practice social skills."
It wasn't a total lie, most of the year round campers had forget how to be around mortals.
"Why would they need to practice?" Asked Hotchner.
"Well, it's a camp that helps...trouble kids. ADH, dislexia and other behaviour problems. I was a counselor there and now that a have this business I talked to the one in charge to help."
Spencer kind of felt a little dumb thanks of how mesmerized he was in man in front of him. Percy appeared to be so honest and real, a person who really wanted to contribute to society and maybe make it better.
Morgan kicked him under the table, but when the older saw that the doctor hadn't take the hint he cleared his throat.
"Well, we better get going to the hotel, we have some things left to pack."
A small smile appeared on Aaron Hotchner's face.
"Yes, we'll see you at the airport."
Once the team was out of their sight the two men walked. Spencer was so happy to find someone who was interest in his dumb and silly facts. He really needed a distraction after the case, but a part of him was a little sad about the fact that even if they both exchaged numbers the possibility of meeting again was very low thanks to the work of both. He liked Percy but he wasn't sure about maintain a relationship over the phone.
Percy was excited, it has been a lot of time since he had conected with someone, he had always been attracted to extremely intelligent people, it wasn't his fault, he just liked to listen the rants of information and the little mannerisms that the doctor did.
He sometimes had some trouble with stay in touch with his human side, that was kind of the reason he opened the coffe shop.
Both of them, mortal and demigod, expected to run away (at least for a little time) of their respective worlds.
They both would always remeber the kiss they shared before the mortal had to go.
"I you ever happen to be at Virginia, give me a call."
"Sure do, Doctor Agent Spencer Reid."
"Until we see again, golden olympic medalist Percy Jackson."
A smile was reflected on his face.
