Boseong’s ears perk up at the sound of keys jingling outside the door.
“I’m home,” a voice announces, the quiet and smooth tone clearly belonging to Sanghyeok, who smiles at Boseong when the puppy hybrid turns the corner and waves at him. “What’d you do today, Boseongie?”
“I deep-cleaned the oven and the stove today. And the cleaner’s currently soaking in the bathroom.” Boseong proudly states, helping Sanghyeok with his bag. “So wait until I finish with that before you use it.”
“I can wait. I’ll start preparing for dinner in the meantime,” Sanghyeok says, holding out his hand for his bag after he’s changed shoes. “Thanks, Boseongie,” he quietly adds once it’s back in his hands. “Su said he’s going to be late, by the way — the content filming’s apparently taking a little bit more time than he expected.”
As is routine, Sanghyeok reaches out and ruffles his hair, scritching behind his ears before they part ways — the older man stepping into their office space briefly to deposit his bag while Boseong returns to the bathroom to finish cleaning. When he emerges twenty minutes later from the strong smell of bleach, he’s greeted with the aroma of braised chicken and the sight of steaming rice in the rice cooker.
“All done?” Sanghyeok asks, pausing his chopping to look up at him.
Boseong opens their step-lid trash can and throws the remains of the now-empty cleaning spray away. “Mmhm,” he nods. “Can I wash my hands?”
“Yup.” Sanghyeok steps closer to the counter, making way for Boseong.
While he washes his hands, Sanghyeok sets down the veggies and rinses his hands right after, gratefully taking the towel that the puppy offers.
“Good boy.” Sanghyeok trails his hand along Boseong’s face, letting his fingers brush against his skin, still soft . They rest on his cheek. “Want a reward?”
Boseong nods. “Of course!” he beams. Sanghyeok regards him for a moment, mouth quirked in that trademark smug way, before he closes the distance and leaves a kiss, the sensation electric against his lips. His brain fills with static, nothing else there save for thoughts of !!!!!!!
When they part, he can’t help but chase the feeling, lurching forward ever-so-slightly. “More,” he pouts, placing his hands on either side of Sanghyeok’s waist to steady himself.
Sanghyeok’s laugh is soft and light, the cat hybrid pleasantly startled by his enthusiasm. “Okay, puppy,” he fondly says, bringing their faces closer together again. “I’ll give you more.” With that, his hand slides behind Boseong’s neck and he dives back in. His fingers, thin and cool to the touch, lightly massage his scalp in circular motions, and Boseong has to remember to breathe in between Sanghyeok’s kisses.
He doesn’t notice the sound of the door at first, too preoccupied with Sanghyeok’s attention, until a voice breaks through the haze. “Oh?”
Heo Su fiddles with some plastic bags in his hand to lock the door behind him. “Kissing while cooking?” he tsks. “You’ve burned the food doing that before.”
“I had to,” Sanghyeok responds, his mouth curling into that amused look, but he steps away from Boseong anyway. “He got a lot of cleaning done today. Had to make sure our puppy knew he did a good job.” His hand still rubs over the nape of Boseong’s neck.
The YouTuber rolls his eyes. “You can do that later.” Despite his words, he beckons Boseong over. “What’d you do?” he asks, placing the bags on the counter.
“He cleaned the bathroom, the oven, and the stove today,” Sanghyeok answers, lightly digging his fingertips into a spot that has Boseong’s eyes fluttering. “So I thought it’d be good to reward him.”
“You can reward him with food that isn’t burnt,” Heo Su retorts, tugging on Boseong’s arm. “Come on, let’s not distract him.” Boseong looks back at Sanghyeok, staring forlornly at the arm still working at his neck — don’t leave the hand that massages you, or whatever the saying is — and it takes a click of Heo Su’s tongue for Sanghyeok to sheepishly retract his hand.
“I’ll give you more later,” Sanghyeok says, even though his hand still hovers in the space between them, like he doesn’t quite believe in what he’s saying. The cat hybrid’s tail flicks once, twice, before it settles again around his waist like a belt. Finally, he fully retracts his hand and shakes the pan, frowning when he has to scrape the bottom to fully unstick the chicken.
“Surely my company isn’t that terrible,” Heo Su jokes, sitting down on the far end of the couch. He beckons him over.
Boseong obediently follows him and lies down, using his lap as a pillow and sprawling his legs out — over the end of the couch, his feet barely dangling over the other armrest. “No, it’s not,” he simply says, turning and happily nuzzling into Heo Su’s stomach. “I love being with you. I love you.”
Heo Su sputters. “I — wh — you,” he protests incoherently, “you can’t just say that out of the blue—” His hand falls to the scruff of Boseong’s shirt and smooths down his back in a long stroke.
“But I just did,” Boseong smugly replies, lifting his head from Heo Su’s stomach to look at his reaction. He’s met by a flustered look from the cat hybrid, Heo Su’s mouth twitching like he’s not sure how to react, although he’s betrayed by a light flush dusting over his cheeks. “You need to say it back, Su.”
“Only if you stop looking at me like that.” Heo Su lightly swats at his tummy, barely grazing his shirt. “You dog.”
“Like what?” Boseong grins at him, feigning ignorance. “I’m not hearing the right words,” he teases.
The cat hybrid looks to the side, the flush on his face spreading to the skin meeting the collar of his shirt. “...I like you too,” he mutters under his breath, as if they haven’t been together for four years and counting.
“Hm? What was that?”
Heo Su stares at him with a betrayed sort of look, his ears swiveling and moving different ways, and Boseong relents on the teasing, even if it’s only because Heo Su’s too cute when he’s flustered.
“Just kidding,” he says. “You don’t have to say it—”
“—I love you too,” Heo Su quickly blurts out, bashfully avoiding eye contact with Boseong. He moves his hand to rub at the nape of Boseong’s neck in the same spot that Sanghyeok had been massaging him earlier. “Don’t make me do that again today.”
“Then I’ll ask again tomorrow,” Boseong teases him, rolling over so he’s facing Heo Su’s stomach again.
“...Sure,” Heo Su mumbles. A few seconds pass. “...You know, I can see your ears. I saw the way they perked up at that, Boseong-hyung.”
“Of course they would,” he murmurs dopily. “Who wouldn’t like hearing an ‘I love you’ from their boyfriend?”
The sound of slippers shuffling on the wooden floor grows louder. “Heo Su, on occasion,” a voice, clearly Sanghyeok’s, says. His tone conveys the hint of a smile often present on his face, so familiar that Boseong can imagine it without turning to look at him. “But that doesn’t change how we feel.”
“Mmhm.” Boseong agrees, nuzzling further into Heo Su’s thighs. With the warm pillow beneath him and the feeling of his boyfriend’s fingers combing through his hair, he’s more than tempted to fall asleep right then and there and suffer the consequences of his unintended nap later.
It’s only the thought of dinner that makes him stir. “Is dinner ready?” he murmurs sleepily. As he looks up, he sees Sanghyeok staring at him with a fond look in his face, one that makes his tummy squirm and his chest flutter.
“We can always wait for you,” Sanghyeok says, reaching out to ruffle his hair. His hand traces Boseong’s face, following his ear, his jaw, and massaging the small crook in his neck that always gets a little bit too tense. “We always will.”
“That’s not fair to you,” Boseong says, but tilts his head so that Sanghyeok has better access to that part of his neck, sighing happily at the affectionate touch from both his boyfriends. “You worked so hard on dinner, hyung.”
Heo Su slightly jogs his legs, just barely enough for Boseong to notice but not enough to disrupt him. “Then we should go eat.”
“Okay,” Boseong agrees, and reluctantly sits up, away from the touch of their hands. It only takes a few seconds for them to return to Boseong, Heo Su holding his hand and Sanghyeok placing his hand on the small of his back. “Let’s eat.”
