Morning Clinginess

Summary:

It's fun to be on break and to have Caleb dote on you, it would be more fun if he didn't have to go to work.

Notes:

I saw a cute couple reel and I just had to... Caleb brained

Work Text:

Warm sun rays covered your exposed skin as you shifted in bed. It had been a hard week; you had gone on a mission just to get severely injured and be put on break. It was only a leg injury, but they had been kind enough to tell you to just rest. Once Caleb had heard of that, it was only a matter of seconds before he picked you up and took you to his house in Skyhaven, so he could look after you properly.

At first you'd debated his behavior; after all you were a grown woman and able to take care of yourself. But then it clicked; why would you refuse? Free pampering, and all of his attention for yourself… suddenly your leg did hurt really badly.

It had been two weeks since you'd been officially declared “bedridden.” Caleb would bring you breakfast in bed, brush your hair, pepper your face with kisses, and basically do anything you asked him to. It was kind of fun, and you reveled in his affection.

You could feel the warm sun rays blanket your exposed skin as you lay in bed. They were peeking through the blinds, the morning light warming the room up with a soft glow. A groan left your lips as you hugged your pillow tighter, eyes fluttering open as you sighed softly. The bed was warm, soft, and so comfy, but something was missing. Caleb wasn't there.

You got up slowly, your violet nightgown coming into view as the sheets slipped off you. Your feet hit the ground in a soft thud as you frowned. He was supposed to take care of you, so why had he left you first thing in the morning? You knew logically he was probably making breakfast, but you couldn't stop the pout on your lips. You slipped into your fluffy slippers and made your way toward his bathroom just to give a quick wash to your face, fully waking you up.

An irresistible smell filled your nose as you approached the kitchen; it seemed that, after all, he was cooking. The sizzling of the pan filled your ears as you hopped toward him, stopping at the counter.

“Caleb?” You called out, the pout still on your lips as you folded your arms. “You left me all alone...”

If Caleb had dog ears, they would have perked up by the way he turned around. A smile was on his lips as he chuckled, reaching out to ruffle your hair affectionately.

“’M sorry pips, I got an urgent call from work, so I had to get up earlier than usual. But I am making you your favorite.” He retorted, turning his eyes back to the food. He takes out a plate, while you stare at him in disbelief.

Work? Seriously? Your eyes fell to his uniform, something you hadn't even realized he was wearing. Thanks to your injury, you had gotten a break, and so Caleb had basically also taken a break to take care of you. But now they were asking him to go because it was “urgent”?

You made your way to the table, plopping down on the chair with frustration as you looked outside. You heard his footsteps as he approached the table, setting the plate in front of you. His hand twitched as he stilled; he could immediately tell something was wrong, and his expression took that “sad puppy” turn.

“What's wrong?” He questioned, crouching down so he'd be on eye level with you. You didn't turn to him; you just kept pouting until you got an idea.

“Caleb, pinky promise.” You said, turning to him and offering your pinky. His eyes widened slightly in confusion before they softened and he laughed.

“What am I pinky promising?” He asked, reaching out to pinch your cheek. You frowned, muttering out an “Ow” as you rubbed your cheek with your free hand.

“Does it matter?” You asked, a cheeky grin on your lips. You were injured, and most importantly, you were his baby apple; how could he deny you this? He shook his hand in disagreement as he raised his pinky, locking it with your own.

“Of course not. Pinky promise.” He said, pulling your hand closer and kissing your pinky. You smiled, reaching out to pat his head like a puppy as he chuckled.

“You just pinky promised you won't go to work.” You declared, grinning as he gave you a surprised expression. His eyes softened as he realized that's what was bothering you. He took your hand, pressing a kiss to your palm as he closed his eyes.

“You don't want me to go to work?” His voice was soft, with a hint of teasing as he opened his eyes to look at you. Well, damn him and that look of his. You looked away, biting your lip as your gaze fell toward the window.

“Of course not, it's not that. It's just, it's such a good day outside; it would be a pity to waste it on fleet work. I'm looking out for you, you know?” You said, nonchalantly. It earned a genuine laugh from Caleb as he trailed his lips from your palm to your arm.

“Yeah? Thank you, honey, what would I do without you.” He teased, pulling you by the arm to bend closer to his crouching figure. Your faces were much closer now, his nose brushing against yours as he smiled. His other hand cupped your cheek, thumb brushing over your lower lip.

“I'll be fast, you won't even notice I'm gone. And then we'll do whatever you want, ‘kay?” He spoke, breathing softly as his ears flushed pink. After all, Caleb was just a guy, and he was an utterly in-love one at that. You pouted, reluctantly nodding as you wrapped your arms around his neck. You really couldn't win against him.

“Fine...” You muttered, heaving a sigh. Caleb smiled, brushing his lips against yours in a soft kiss. He then pressed his lips over your cheeks, nose, forehead, neck.. Everywhere he could reach. You burst into a fit of giggles, holding onto his shoulders as he pampered you.

“Caleb…!” You exclaimed, embarrassed. He stopped to look up at you with a cheeky grin, eyes full of love as he intertwined his fingers with yours.

“What? All husbands kiss goodbye to their wives.” Your cheeks flushed at his words, your free hand pushing against his chest in embarrassment as you looked away.

“Just go to work already, honey.”
