Kael braids his long hair before bed so it doesn't go everywhere while he sleeps. If your hair is long enough he'll braid it too, scolding if you try to squirm.
"Stay still, it's good for your hair. Either I braid it or I'm cutting it," despite his warning he's careful as he brushes through your hair. Your braid is looser than his, "Couldn't be bothered to do it better," but its simply to make sure it doesn't hurt your scalp.
For the time being your pyjamas are simply one of his old shirts and pair of boxers with foxes printed on them. The boxers had to be tied with a hair band to keep them up and the shirt is way too big for you.
"C'mon, you're sleeping with me. Can't have you running away," his usual excuse to keep you close. He's got you tucked in and has wrapped himself around you before you even manage to try and complain. It's almost suffocating, the way he's holding you, like snake constricting around its prey. Except he never holds you too tightly, making sure you can breathe, giving you just enough space to wiggle, but never enough to let you squirm away.
He uses his illusions to turn the usually dark bedroom into a forest, moss and fern growing from the floor. Pine trees sprouting and reaching for the ceiling that is now a nightsky full of twinkling stars. The stars themselves create little displays of foxes playing and chasing each other, jumping along the almost black sky.
"See? Isn't it nice? Being my little bird? Soon we can play in the forest too," you barely register his words, too busy trying to fight the slowly creeping sleep to keep watching the sky. One of the star foxes turns into a bird and the other fox starts chasing it. Your eyes close before you can see it hesitate pouncing on the bird and Kael's hold on you tightens for a moment.
