With their track record of hypotheses tending to end trumped up, of course Pearl had dismissed their newest about moths mistakin' lamplight for starlight or whatever as a bunch of blarney.
But that was before she saw the Stars.
The reason moths are suicidally attracted to flames is because they mistake it for starlight. Pearl didn't believe it until she met the Stars and found herself inexplicably drawn to him, fittingly enough, like a moth to a flame.

It was a thickened, reddish tattle that cut down from her brow to her cheek, reminding her that she'd never be able to fully heal, an embiggened blemish that told everybody around her that she was, fundamentally and irrecoverably, scarred.
As there are phases of grief, there are phases of healing, too. 'Least, there are for scars, anyway. Pearl's hurt goes through hemostasis, inflammation, and proliferation.

The Fae were indisputably, undeniably, irrefutably fake.
Which, of course, meant there was no way the message written in his panda’s blood on the reserve's walls could be real.
Scar had a knack for bringing attention to himself — and a supposed lack of self perseverance around The Fae. One day, he went missing without a trace, and found his village had simply assumed he'd been Taken and so hadn't even bothered to go looking for him. Now, Scar has to try to piece together what really happened to him — and maybe, just maybe, prove this fae nonsense is bogus in the process.

Scott's blood had just begun to start flaking off his palms when Shelby appeared. She'd practically crashed through the woods, the cuffs of her white sleeves stained bright red. She'd been panting, looking like she'd sprinted through the whole forest just to find him, and all she said was, "Did you do it?"
Owen didn't have to ask what she meant. He'd left the body, still warm, on the bridge. A slow dip of his head. "Yes," was all he said.
Shelby shrieked, something unintelligible, and lunged for his face.
