Falling for a Violet light

Summary:

Falling in love is stupid, and unnecessary. It's always so cliche. Just seeing your best friend Momo pining over Ken gives you a headache. Soon though, you realise some headaches might just be fun.. in their own, stupid way. Just one boy can flip your whole world around, as well as your heart.

Chapter Text

Another boring morning. Momo's not back from whatever trip she took with Ke- Okarun, and its been foreveeeeer! she cant even send me texts because she's lazy to get a phone! I honestly cant help but wonder what theyre doing. There's been this report of a huge fire right at the place where they're visiting, i can't help but wonder if they made a mess.

I've been with Seiko after school, training my powers or whatever she calls it. All we really do is just her making me lift things or freeze TV shows. About a month ago, i came to Japan as a transfer student. Momo and i became friends rather quickly, and she's really helped me better my japanese. Her, Ken and I hang out a lot, well up until now that they went on the trip. Anyways, two weeks ago we got attacked by aliens, just the usual. Me, being defenseless and a bit overconfident, ended up getting pinned down to the ground and about to be harvested for my limbs. Luckily, Ken and Momo saved me. After that i ended up with a symbol on the back of my hand, which left me with some powers.

Stopping time for a minute, maybe two if i slept well. Freezing items just as they're about to fall or spill, rarely even stopping people mid activity for a few seconds. Seiko offered to help train me, which i deepy appreciated until i found out i was just freezing the TV every time she needed a new bag of chips. But anyways, i was bored as hell with Momo and Ken gone.

I was walking to Seiko's house, as usual on Wednesdays since I didn't have shifts for then at the bookstore i worked at part time. It was old, ran by a man old enough to be a relic in a museum, and with the bit of empathy in me i agreed to work for him. On Sunday mornings, Thursday and Friday afternoons im there, reshelving or just bored out of my mind.

I arrived at Seiko's house, sharing a snack, then "training" while gossiping with Turbo Granny, which was surprisingly fun. After all that i headed home, ignoring my homework and greeting my mum, helping her out by washing the dishes and talking to her about my day, then asking about hers. We talked like this more ever since dad passed, about two years ago. Sure, it hurt to think about, but it was nice to know we had each other. My older sister was studying in England to be a lawyer of some sort, so she rarely visited. We still called almost every week to keep in touch, since we did miss each other.

I laid down, yawning and settling in bed just to scroll on my phone for a bit, stare at my ceiling and fall asleep hoping tomorrow will be a bit more interesting.

Chapter 2: A curious invite

Momo's finally back with Ken, and she's invited you over for a sleepover... Managing Jiji and the spirit inside him. Who knows what'll happen..

Chapter Text

I woke up the next morning to my mum's urgent calls

"Honeeey! You're going to be late for school if you dont hurry! Your friends are downstairs waiting for you!"

No shit. Mostly if you wake me up with barely 15 minutes to spare. I hurried, throwing on my skirt and a hoodie, the new one i got as a gift from my mum "just because". It was warm, at least. I had no time for hair, so a quick brushing was going to have to do. I grabbed my bag, quickly checking my books, then sprinting downstairs, grabbing a slice of toast. I greeted my mum with a smile, and rushed to get my shoes on.

"Alright mum, got to go, see you after work!"

I waved and left, a breeze of fresh air waking me up. My face automatically lit up when i saw the two idiots, Momo and Ken waiting for me. I held them in a tight hug before letting go to look at them

"Welcome back you two. How was the trip? You look exhausted. I've been bored out of my mind so you better have something interesting to tell me. Ooooooh, did you bring me any souvenirs?"

Momo just smiles at my wave of questions, though visibly tired.

"Its... A lot to explain. Moral of the story is, one of my old friend's been posesses by a demon, and its been a major pain keeping it calm.. and Okarun and i have been thinking. You, Aira and the two of us have to stay at my place for a while, just to help Jiji. Pretty please?"

I was excited. This was already way more interesting than the past week I've had to endure. A possessed friend and a long sleepover? I say why the hell not!

"Of course! I'd love to, honestly, and you have to tell me the whole story. Im already buzzing to know."

We got to class, barely on time. Lessons were boring, as usual, and we headed behind the school with Aira after eating our lunches. Momo filled me us on what's what's happened, Ken nodding supportively.

"That's... Well that's absolutely bonkers. I love it. And that's why we're having the sleepover, to make sure the Evil Eye doesn't murder the population. Epic"

After school we parted ways, i headed to my part time job downtown in the bookstore. Things were quiet, as usual, and i was reorganizing the philosophy shelf, adding in a few new books. The shift passed.. slowly, no surprise there. Afterwards i headed home, told my mum I'll be helping Momo out over the weekend, and even tomorrow so I'll have to sleep over. She said it's alright as long as i take care of myself and call her if anything's wrong. So i happily headed over, ready to conquer whatever evil spirit is living inside this Jiji dude.

I got there, stepping inside the house. Seiko was prepping dinner, the others already in pyjamas all watching the tv. Momo and Ken close but not close enough, Aira more focused on Ken than the TV and... Oh. That must be Jiji. He looks... How to say this without sounding like a romcom lead... Attractive. Who wouldn't think so? Tall, neatly dyed hair, earrings and a soft, tired smile. ANYWAYS, i greeted everyone with a big smile

"Hiiiii everyone! I finally got of work and all, i managed to pack my stuff too. You must be Jiji. I'm Momo's genius best friend from England. It's a pleasure."

I shook hands with him, a smile on my lips despite my internal monologue telling me to explode into glitter and confetti. I headed upstairs to change, packing down into Momo's room and getting my warmest socks out.

Seiko practically laid out a platter, gorgeous with food, all kinds of flavours and choices. We all started eating, even Turbo Granny, which i didnt even know was possible but is, apparently. When a tiny drop of soy sauce fell on Jiji, i saw why Momo and Ken looked so tired. That spirit/ghost whatever was strong. Overwhelmingly so. We managed to calm him down, luckily, and finished up eating. I helped Seiko wash up, and Jiji wanted to help with drying the plates but we decided against it, just incase cold water gets to him. After, Momo, Aira and i went to sit outside on the fresh air, to catch up since she left.

"Sooooo... Any progress with nerd boy? Or are you two still meek as hell?"

I smiled when i saw her cheeks flush as she frantically tried to deny all the obviously true allegations.

"W-we dont.. I wouldn't just.. He might not even like me!" -Momo was clenching her fists in her lap, visibly nervous.

"Oh calm down. He's head over heels for you, dumbass. Plus, he's just as shy if not even more than you are. You have to be forwarddddd!"

I gently nudged her, and Aira just rolled her eyes. Of course she's sour, she chose the worst person to have a crush on. But then, Momo interjects;

"Jiji's single too. He's been pining after me for foreveeeeeer. I'd love if *you* got him off my back."

I rolled my eyes. I mean sure, Jiji's cute. Mostly my type, but he's kiiiiinda got an evil entity living in him. Anyhow, i just rolled my eyes with a scoff. Before i could make a half assed comeback, Ken called us in to sleep. The sleeping arrangements were simple. Girls in Momo's room, boys in the other. We said good night to each other, and headed in. Eventually, everyone fell alseep. Well, mostly everyone. I couldn't decide who snored louder, Momo or Aira (in the end, definitely Aira).

I headed downstairs, insomnia teasing me. Seiko was out having a smoke with whoever Manjiro was, and i saw Jiji moping around on the couch.

Notes:

I hppe this was okay! I'll make the next chapter all about Jiji and your interactions, some deep talk and crushes developing! Sorry for any typos!

Chapter 3: Late night secrets

Summary:

Insomnias a bitch, mostly when you're at a sleepover. Wandering around the house is a bit fun, but finding someone to wander with? Now that's what you've been needing

Chapter Text

"Hey, you still up? I thought I'm the only one wandering around like a lost tourist."

That elicited a tired chuckle from Jiji, even though he seemed exhausted. Maybe even a little depressed. I sat down beside him, observing him silently.

"Momo mention that you accepted the spirit inside you. That's really heroic, you're practically Superman. Just less skin tight suits and lazers all around."

Jiji turned to look at me, a bit confused as to why I'm even down there with him.

"Why are you here? Aren't you... Scared or something? You should go get some sleep. You know, pretty girls shouldn't stay up too late"

Eye roll. He can't ve serious, sweet talking me now? It was probably just out of politeness since I most definitely looked like a racoon after a hard day of trash digging.

"You cant be serious. How's a goofy boy my age gonna hurt me? Youre sleep deprived and looking kinda depressed, thw spirit thingy inside you should know better than to attack me when im tired. I'll just karate chop it and scold it. Problem solved."

And yet no matter how undeniably funny of charming i was, Jiji seemed like we was focused on something else. As if he wasn't even in in the room with me, only his body.

"Hey, you good? Im sure it's been tough... Mostly with all the weight you've got on you now. Want a hug?"

Jiji looked, majorly confusedat first. Then, he sighed, most likely giving into his tiredness. With a curt nodd, he moved closer, and i gently embraced him. He hesitantly, slowly hugged me back.

"Thank you... You're real warm"

The truth is that i was really aware of how vulnerable he was being with me. I wanted to ask him about what was weighing on him so heavily, aside from the thousand year old spirit fighting him every waking second. Maybe that was it. To my surprise, he started talking on his own

"I feel like an unstable mental patient. Everyone has to take such crazy measures to make sure Evil Eye doesn't take over my body. And it's like everyone's avoiding me. Looking at me like I'm something to be avoided or watched over. Even Yuji from Jujutsu Kaisen didn't have this many problems"

He's really comparing himself to a Shōnen manga protagonist?

"Jiji... No one's avoiding you. Sure, maybe we're being cautious, but that's only to make sure everyone's safe. Plus, I'm here. And i think you're pretty great company. Yuji from Jujutsu has nothing on you."

He pulled back to look at me with an unreadable expression, then smiled and ruffled my hair.

"Thanks. Up till no everyone's just been wanting to get rid of Evil Eye. We're becoming friends though, i think. He's especially quiet with you around."

So... His evil spirit friend likes me? That's good.. i hope. But he's smiling, that must count for something.

"Hah, thanks. Usually i just make guys irritated. Or fluster them. Sometimes both. But anyways, i thought youre crushing heavy on Momo. I noticed how you were watching her."

"Well... I liked her. I still do to an extent. And i know Ken buddy likes her too. I know she's changed since we last saw each other and i can't help but debate if i really like her, or it's just something friendly..."

He sounds confused. Confused and a bit stressed.

"Gods Jiji, don't stress about this. Just listen to your heart. Your brain will just make you overanalyze things. The advice, or rather info i can offer is that Momo's head over heels for Ken. And so is he for her. Now i dunno just how dedicated you are, but keep that in mind."

I smiled, and he smiled right back. After that we talked about hobbies, how he loves football and his favourite team. Food, drinks, animals and even school came to topic as we talked through the night. Around 1:30 AM, we were getting drowsy.

"Youre waaaaaaay too cheerful for someone who was so depressed and hour ago."

He just winked, causing my body to react. A chemical reaction of course, from hormones in my brain making my cheeks turn red.

"Maybe i figured out what my heart wants. Will you keep me company for now? I don't feel like facing reality just yet, and you seem like a great escape."

How can he just drop a line of poetry like that, that even Shakespeare would envy with that stupid smile plastered across his face? Jiji's definitely the most interesting person I've ever met.

"You're looking at me like i just told you Santa Claus isn't real"

"He isnt?"

We laughed, teasing each other till dawn. I have no idea when we fell asleep or how, but when i woke up, i felt something real heavy on me. Nope, someone... Jiji? But.. he's transformed into Evil Eye! Asleep...?

Notes:

Okay, i dont know if i love or hate this (*﹏*;) anyhow, i tried. Enjoy!!

Chapter 4: Playdate with an old as time toddler

Summary:

Late night, sleepless of course. What should one do when they wake up with a sleepy spirit clinging onto them?

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Oh what the hell?

I looked at the clock -2 AM- then back at Jiji. Or in this case, Evil Eye. When did we even fall asleep? The whole house is quiet, so everyone else is knocked out too. Now, how do i get out of this absurd situation? If I'd push him off, he'll wake up. Not ideal. I dont have any warm water on me, and there's no way I'll spit on him, it might not even work! He looks so sleepy and quiet, kind of like a tired kid after school. He's holding onto me real tight too.

As i was deep in thought conjuring up an escape plan, i felt someone nuzzle into my chest. No no, this cannot be happening. I looked down to see Evil Eye staring a hole into my head. He didnt look hostile or aggressive right now, more... Curious. Then, he started talking

"Why are you so warm? I need that customisation now. Where did you get it done?"

What? WHAT? He's asking me where i get my body heat from?

"Uh... In the womb? You know, where humans develop for 9 months. It's something natural humans have. Dont you have body heat?"

"No, I'm usually cold. This vessel is very comfortable, but i still need to be in my own form from time to time. And i noticed he happened to be near something warm. It felt nice."

So.. The evil spirit demon ghost thing has decided that for tonight I'll be it's heat source? Can't i just sleep in peace?

"Oh actually, when did you and Jiji switch? When we fell asleep, im sure Jiji was still the one out."

"I dont know. Does it matter? I'll spare you for now, while i rest. Stay still, human."

Stay still? Who does it think it is? His ego's bigger than Light Yagami's god complex. There's no way i can fall asleep like this. And he kind of acts like a child. Jiji did mention that all Evil Eye wanted was a playmate... Oh wait!

"Hey, Evil Eye? Do you wanna play a game with me?"

"A game? I'm not some fool, human... What game?"

"I'll say a word, and you say the first thing that comes to mind about that word. But, destroying humanity, earth and killing everyone are topics off limits."

He rolled his eyes like a moody child who got denied ice cream.

"Fine, I'll play your stupid game, and I'll win. Stupid human.."

"Okay okay, so can we start? I'll go wiiiiith... Dark"

"Dark? Uh... Night. I'm winning already, see?"

"Yes yes, so night... Stars."

"Stars... Stars are pretty."

He glanced up at me and turned a bit purple, he even looked shy. Was he... Blushing? *Can* evil spirits blush?

"I dont know why, but this vessel is making my face warm."

"Are you thinking of something? Or maybe someone pretty? Oooooh, does Evil Eye have a crush?"

"Can it, human. An almighty being like me doesn't have 'crushes'. I'm sure this vessel is attracted to you or something."

Attracted to me? So Jiji has a crush.. maybe.. possibly... But there's no way that Jiji's blush would show on this... Thing. If it would, then Jiji would be able to stop Evil Eye from attacking when he does. This is out of Jiji's hands right now.

"Are you sure youre not thinking about someone? Because i find it unlikely that Jiji's blush would show on your body."

He looked up and me and the purple blush burned on his cheeks. It was almost cute. Almost.

"It's the vessel's feelings. Im not attracted to inferior beings, mostly not *you*."

"Well thats rude. What did I do? I thought I'm a rather charming specimen, but not everyone can have good taste i guess."

"You're annoying. Irritating. And you mess up my thinking."

He sounds like a grumpy toddler. He's pouting like one too. Against my better judgement, my hand slowly pet his head. He just looked stunned at first, but didn't stop me. So, i continued. Slowly. After 30, maybe 40 minutes in silence, he spoke up.

"Human-"

"Call me y/n. I've decided we're friends now. What is it?"

He looked flabberghasted. And turned even more purple. Evil Eye *was* just a sad kid wanting to play. And it seems I've become it's friend.

"Is there anything i can call you?"

"..no... No one's ever named me except for Evil Eye.."

"Then how abouuuuut... Vi? Is that okay?"

He nodded, and then laid back, closing his eyes. This was very peculiar coming from a living breathing killing machine, not that I'm complaining.

"Good night, Vi. See you later, right? Then we can play again."

"Good night y/n. And-"

He glanced up, then closed his eyes, drifting to sleep.

"Thank you for being my friend.."

He settled and i was still gently stroking his head. After a few minutes, i saw him transform back to Jiji, and afterwards even i fell asleep. The whole house was quiet, and there were no signs of what has actually been happening except for how beat up the house looked.

I woke up to some kind of noise. Something falling... No, someone. Shouting? And where's Jiji? I got up to peek outside, and i saw a full on fight happening between Ken and Vi for some reason. How did i manage to sleep through all of this? Aira was dressed up, not in pyjamas and Momo was still sleepy. Ken and Vi *both* looked beat up, that's a first. What's going on?!

Notes:

New chapter! I tried my best not to mischaracterise, but I'm not sure it was all accurate. Anyhow, Vi is getting nicer! And he's got a new friend. I'll figure out the next chapters soon! <3

Chapter 5: Nights should last longer for those who feel alone

Summary:

Noises outside, what's going on? Of course, Ken and Evil Eye are in a full out battle. And everything's being destroyed! What in the world could be the explanation for THIS?!

Chapter Text

"Guys?!"

I stumbled out, still a bit woozy from just waking up. Ken was bleeding, but jumping around *and* counterattacking much faster than a few hours ago. Vi looked like he was enjoying himself, almost like a game... They were much too absorbed in the fight to notice the sleepy and confused being I was, but Momo rushed over to try and calm me down.

"So i woke up just a while ago too. All I know is that Okarun showed up here, splashed Jiji with some water and now they're full on battling it out like idiots. And that tramp (Aira) was with him too, but I don't know where they were."

"Huh."

Huh? Thats *really* all i can muster out? But hell, I'm so confused! Weren't we supposed to be 'taming' Vi? Maybe not taming... Befriending? What the hell is Ken's plan here? And how'd he get so much faster?
Suddenly, Vi got kicked back into the rubble that was supposed to be Seiko's house, by a strong blow from Ken. Then he transformed back from his Turbo Granny state, catching his breath.

"Is he okay?" I glanced at Momo. They've fought together a ton, she must know what Ken looks like if he's in pain.

"I mean... He looks fine?"

"Wow, great help. Go check on him, dummy, I'll go see Vi."

"Vi? You mean Evil Eye? What?"

"Oh dont ask, go check on your boyfriend instead."

Momo rolled her eyes are mumbled something about them "not even dating", but her cheeks turned pink. I rushed over to Vi, who was struggling to get up. He looked up at me, and for a second i could have sworn he was glad to see me... Almost. I knelt down beside him as he sat up, looking curiously for any major injuries.

"Vi... What happened?"

He grumbled, looking away, almost as if he was ashamed of himself.

"I was asleep, on the couch.. with you. And then four eyes splashed me with some water and challenged me to a fight. We went outside not to wake you.. Not that i care. You're just a stupid human after all."

Thats... Actually nice. Only kind of, though. Saying something thoughtful then immediately insulting me after isn't exactly nice, but it'll have to do. I gently patted his head, as to offer a bit of comfort.

"Thanks for being honest with me. I appreciate it. So, Ken started it. Thats really odd. But i believe you. Does it hurt really bad?"

I gently touched the side of his face, where there was a scar, a cut bleeding.

"Only a little.."

He pouted looking down and leaning into my hand. Like a grumpy toddler. It was cute, even if he did just almost murder Ken.

"I'm gonna go check on Ken. Sit tight, I'll be right back, okay?"

"No. Stay."

"I just want to go and loo-"

"Please."

His voice was so gentle, almost scared. How could anyone say no to that?! So, i sat down next to him, gently grabbed his hand, and sat. It was quiet except for Turbo Granny and Seiko mumbling about something. After a while, Ken slowly walked up to us, relatively surprised to see me there.

"M-Miss y/n, what are you doing here? Why are you so... Close? To the spirit?"

"Vi asked me to stay, so i did. We're friends now... i guess."

He wrapped an arm around me and pulled me against his side, staring up at Ken as if he just announced that he's asking for my hand in marriage. Almost possessive, and a little agitated was the energy Vi gave off.

"F-friends? That's... That's good. I was wondering, V-Vi, was it?"

"What? I don't care about what you have to say, mortal. Why don't you transform back so we can fight some more? This time you were just barely entertaining."

Then, Ken proposed a deal. Every Tuesday, Vi and him would fight, and on all other days were peace. Noooooooow i get what he was planning! Vi was just about to agree, before he shook his head.

"I want a playdate with Y/n too."

Stunned. Jaw dropped, eyes wide, Ken and i looked at each other. This, we weren't expecting.

"Well... O-okay, only if Miss y/n is alright with it.."

What am i supposed to say? No? Well i can't do that, now can i?

"I mean... Alright. I'm okay with that, as long as you promise to behave, Vi. If you go around hurting people, and causing trouble we'll have to stop being friends from then on."

He locked eyes with me, visibly panicked, but he managed to surpress it.

"I'll behave, i guess..."

"Okay then! How abouuuuut... Tuesday, before you have your fights with Ken?"

"Agreeable. We'll go around town for play dates, then. Tuesdays."

"Yeah, Tuesdays.."

I helped him up, and Ken and him shook hands. I told the others that before all this commotion, Vi and i had a rather civil conversation. They were shocked at first, but with how he was acting around me, they definitely believed me. Now, we cleaned the two boys up, tending to their scars and whatnot from the fight they had. Afterwards, everyone had mostly calmed down. That's when we realised a huge problem was still waiting for us... Seiko's house! It was in SHAMBLES.

After many, many minutes of brainstorming, pondering and worrying about what to do with the house, even the sun started to rise. Jiji still got some sleep in, now dressed, and his parents came to pick him. He said goodbye to everyone, and stopped, standing in front of me.

"Y/n, I... Can't thank you enough."

"Jiji, don't sweat it. There's nothing major about helping a friend."

Friend. Damn, that word stung.

"But this wasnt just helping! You looked after me, after Vi.. He's real fond of you. So thank you. Thank you so much."

Before i could reply, he hugged me tight, warm body against mine with his muscular arms holding me close, head buried in the crook of my neck. I hugged him back, gently playing with his hair as the hug stretched out. Reluctantly, he pulled back with a shy smile and red face, a rare sight for someone as confident as him.

"Bye, then... See you soon, Y/n."

Quickly, I pecked his cheek, and nodded. He turned even redder, and a lovestruck smile spread across his lips.

"See you, Jiji. And Vi, dont give Jiji too much trouble. And, uh, if you need any help... I'll be here, just in case."

Jiji wanted to stay. To run into the arms of the girl that's swept him off his feet under one evening, a few hours really, he wanted to stay forever, but he knew he couldnt. So, with a brief nod to the others, he headed over to his parents' car and got in, watching us, dare i say me with a look of longing... Gosh, i hope he's back soon.

Notes:

So school's been chaotic lately, but I'll definitely post more regularly from now on! <3

Yayy new chapter! I'll add another today, as conpensation for being a little lazy. Forgive me! Next chapter's gonna be PURE FLUFF!

Chapter Text

Soooooo... The house..?

We all *totally* forgot about the house. It was most definitely a mess. Luckily, to our surprise, alien friends of Momo and Ken turned up to help. I was still feeling down, so i was just playing with Chiquitita. He was a cute boy, very lively and rather smart. The others were rebuilding the house with some sort of nano-substance, which seemed to be working rather well. Ken was, of course, over the moon using the moldable blocks. They reminded me of an adult Play-Doh, sort of.

It was sunrise once everyone finished, and the aliens headed back. Momo, Ken and Aira headed back inside. I was still a bit awe-struck with everything that's happened.. As i stood up to go back inside, i saw Jiji's parents' car pull up. So of course, i rushed over. His dad leaned out, greeting me with a smile.

"Well hi there, young lady! Do you by any chance know a Seiko? We're here to repair her hou-"

Mid sentence, he stopped. Shocked to see the house brand new, not as it was a few hours ago.

"Yeah... We had some help. Thanks a lot though! I'm Y/n, it's a pleasure."

His mum from the seat beside him spoke up, clearly glad to hear my name.

"Oh, you're her! Jiji's been talking about you non-stop while we've been driving around. Gosh, you're so pretty! Its so nice to meet you! We're Jiji's parents!"

She got out of the car, stretching. She was... Loud. And very smiley. The man, calm and laid back asked her to lower her voice. I peeked in the back window, where Jiji was dozing off. When he saw me, he lowered the window, leaning out to talk to me.

"Had to peek in to catch a glimpse of your prince?"

To that, i laughed. I forgot how silly he actually is. He blushed, chuckling himself.

"Yeah yeah, i couldn't resist your dumbass charm."

"Excuse me, my charm is in fact romantic and manly, not dumbass. Plus, if you can't resist it, it *must* be good."

"Oh shush. Your charm is stupid cute at best. Anyways, i just wanted to ask if you guys are going back, or maybe.. staying here? There's a three room flat out for rent, if.. you know."

"Oh. Yeah, we're definitely staying. Mum said she wants to keep me near Auntie Seiko and my friends.. and you."

Now *that* was definitely romantic.

"Alright, that's.. good. Very good. Once you find a place, text me. Wait, i didn't even give you my number."

We exchanged numbers, he named his contact "Ultimate Charm". Dummy.

"What should I name you? Cutie? Honey? Ooh, Angel?"

"Jiji, name me something normal. I'll be embarrassed if you call me Angel."

"Okay, so 'My little pookie-wookie' it is."

I blushed, surprisingly so did he. We bickered and argured, playfully of course. In the end, he named my contact "Amore" and left it at that. I dont even remember when Momo came out to quiet Jiji's mum, but when they decided to go on, i noticed her outside too.

"Oh, hi Momo. Didn't you go to sleep?"

"Can't. Aira's waaaaay too loud. Now, what's going on with you and Jiji? Something developiiiiiing?~"

She nudged me with a smile, wiggling her eyebrows. Momo was real pretty. She's really just blocking herself when she's worried about Ken..

"Well... i dunno yet. Jiji's cute. Buuut, what about you and Ken? You two are soooo cute together!"

"Ugh, you *say* that, but I'm so not sure! He's cute and everything, but i can't read him for the life of meee!"

"You're just overthinking it, Momo. He's so clearly got a crush on you. *You're* just oblivious, and so is he."

We headed back, leaving Aira to sleep in Momo's room as we occupied the room where Ken was now sound alseep.

The next morning, Jiji called me. He told me that they've found a flat, roomy and close to the sports centre. I lived near there, although most likely farther off than wherever they're staying. Also, he asked if we'll meet up for lunch. As in, the five of us, he clarified. But, afterwards he said that he'll definitely show me their new flat. He sounded excited. So, i headed downstairs, still a bit in a sleepy daze, going to clean myself up, and get ready for the meetup.

Everyone looked a bit drained, but once we were all eating breakfast, we all gained much more energy. I told everyone about lunch, and of course, they were all excited.

We all got dressed after a bit more of loitering around, Momo going through multiple tops and skirts before deciding on something. I realised that this was the first time Ken wasnt in his uniform. I think this was the first time Momo saw him like that, too. They were both complimenting each other awkwardly, blushing and stuttering like two idiots. Finally, we headed out, and waited at the playground where Jiji and i had discussed to meet.

When he jumped over the fence and stumbled a litte with a shy chuckle, i realised i was in deep. Way, way too deep. When he saw me, however, he lunged forward, picking me up in a tight, almost suffocating hug..

Chapter Text

Jiji!"

We'd barely been apart a few hours, and he was hugging me like a man starved. I had to hold on or else i would've slipped out of his arms (although with that strong hold, probably not), so i wrapped my legs around him. After about ten minutes he lifted his head, his cheeks flushed and his smile shy.

"Sorryyyyy... You just looked to happy to see me, and... I got carried away. Forgive me, Y/n."

How couldn't i forgive him? He's adorable, damn it! So i brushed some hair aside from his face with an unconscious, small smile.

"It's alright, dummy. Im glad you're happy to see me, but maybe next time, warn me. Okay?"

"Yes ma'am!"

I reluctantly dropped my legs, and he placed me on the floor gently. He greeted everyone else, giving Momo a short hug. They talked a bit, and i stood beside him, glad that we're able to hang out.

"Soooooo, luuuuuuunch? I know a crazy gnarly spot!"

"Lead the way, Jiji!" Momo spoke to him with such ease, i was almost jealous. Then i remembered that when she's talking to her own crush, however, she's worse than a rom com main character.

Jiji and i walked ahead, discussing different lamp posts, unique looking people and funny birds. Behind us, Aira was talking Ken's ear off, while his pinky was hooked into Momo's. They looked cute, even if one was redder than the other. I winked at her, and she just pointed to Jiji and me with that same teasing look as this morning. Then, she spoke up when i wish she hadn't while we were waiting at a red light to cross the street.

"What Jiji, you're not even gonna hold the poor girl's hand? Gosh, you're such a terrible flirt!"

He immediately, blushed, looking to me with a shy, as well as hopeful look. I smiled at him, holding my hand out. He took it, although at first carefully, after a few seconds he squeezed it with much more confidence. Then, i had an idea for a perfect retort.

"You know Momo, you're one to talk. Ken's there, right next to you and you two aren't even holding hands *properly*. If you're asking me, you're equal with Jiji at that."

Ken stuttered, immediately jumping in the coversation to defend the girl, who just stood there surprised, blushing and sort of thinking. Ken suddenly stopped talking, and when Jiji and i glanced over, they were holding hands, *fingers interlocked*. Jiji and i high fived with our free hands, and we continued our walk. Our thumbs both traced absentminded circles onto our hands, still talking casually about our surroundings.

The one thing no one paid mind to, was Aira's unrequited crush. She was trying, so hard, and for what? For the crush she has to mostly ignore her and fall for her so called "enemy"? I looked to her with a soft frown, and it seemed Jiji was thinking the exact same thing.

Eventually, we got to the Greek restaurant that opened not long ago, decorated traditionally, this beautiful ceramics and a warm smell of spices. A waiter around our age led us to a table, and we sat down. Jiji and i next to each other, Ken across Jiji and Momo across me, Aira sitting next to Momo and i at the end of the table. She looked rather comfy, actually. Then, Jiji poked my shoulder and pulled me closer.

"What's my princess planning to get, hmm?"

"Your princess? So you're what, the frog?"

"Gosh Y/n you deflect my charm like its a darn law."

"Get better lines, then, froggy."

"You're still my princess though. No wait, my *queen*. See? So much better!"

"Right right, well you're still a froggy. A talkative, annoying one."

"Oh shut up, you know you love me, grumpy queen."

He put his head on my shoulder as i browsed the menu, arm around my hip. Ken and Momo were doing the same, although much more reserved, with their legs touching together. The waiter came over to give everyone their drinks, and he gave Aira an extra cute straw. When she thanked him, he just turned pink and nodded.

"Aira! The waiter totally likes you!"

"Yeah girl, he's soooo got a crush already. Look at the fancy straw you got!"

"Oh he does not, shut up. He's just being polite because i look the richest from everyone here. It's for the tips, idiots."

"There's noooooo way! Just watch him, okay? Trust us."

After a while he came back, Jiji listing our orders, except for Aira's.

"Alright, so thats a Cesar salad for him, lamb wrap for the lady, and two gyros for Jiji and the girl... Right... Anything for the p-pretty lady..?"

Alright. So Ken was *not* the shyest. It was *this* guy, who's miserably failing at flirting with our oblivious friend.

"Salad for me too please, I'd like to keep it light. Thank you."

"Of course! It'll be out as soon as possible!"

He scurried away, like a man on the mission. Technically, he did have a mission. We all turned to Aira.

"He called you pretty, Aira. There's no dismissing it now."

"Can you guys drop it? Sure, he's cute, but a job is a job."

After a very pleasant lunch, Jiji paying for mine and us sharing a tiramisu, the waiter, apparently called Evander, (but he insisted we call him Ev) worked up the courage to ask for Aira's number. Who was surprised, but gave it to him, and even pecked his cheek. The boy almost exploded of course, and excused himself. He used to be Jiji's best friend while they were in elementary school, but they had to go back to Greece because of some family issues. Now, his father had just opened this restaurant, teaching him all kinds of skills.

"Thank you Jiji, this was delish!"

"Well, i can't *fully* believe you unless you prove it, queen."

"God, you're so cheesy."

I kissed his cheek, acting annoyed. Right after, Jiji pulled me close, hugging me tight and messing up my hair.

"Jijiiiiiii!"

"Shuuush! Dont disrupt the other guests!"

"Put me down, Jiji!"

We headed out, stopping at the park where we met up. Momo and i agreed that I'll go back for my things at her place tomorrow, so she headed back with Ken and their awkward hand holding. Aira said she needed some time to clear her head, so she headed home, and i walked with Jiji.

"Whats the new place like? Do you like it?"

"Oh yeah, its great! I've got to show you my room, its epic! I've already got posters up, and dad made my old bed wider, so now it can fit about two people! Its super duper comfy too!"

"That sounds great, Jiji. I'm glad you like the place. And um... How's Vi doing? How do you feel about this whole situation?"

"Well... We've been getting along. Whenever i sleep, we play different games together. He's really becoming my friend now!"

"Oh good, that's good. I was a little worried, honestly. You know that if anything gets too much, im here to talk, or just listen."

"Of course, i know. Thank you, Y/n. You're one of the... The best, most understanding people I've ever met! And youre like, extra pretty too!"

"Thank you, Jiji. And I'm not some super duper person. I just want to be here for you. And being pretty doesn't really change much, i guess. I definitely look better than a few years ago."

"I think you'd look beautiful even if you were a worm"

"But worms are kinda cute. Earthworms definitely are."

"Cute, but not beautiful. You'd be drop dead gorgeous."

"Hehe, thanks, Jiji. Keep complimenting me like that and you might earn yourself a kiss."

"Really?! Oh i need to work hard for that!"

As we walked, our hands intertwined. I don't remember when, or how, but now we're definitely holding hands and flirting. Or teasing probably a mix of the two, honestly. We took the elevator up to their flat, which was on the 5. floor. Jiji's parents were out job hunting, at interviews and getting to know the town.

Their flat really was homey, and i have no idea how they got all thst furniture so quick, but they did. He showed me around, telling me how the bathroom and the toilet were finally in separate rooms, which to Jiji, was very important.

His room was just... Cute. He had two plushies, one hedgehog and a small dog. His bed was pretty big, and he had posters all over the wall beside his bed. He plopped down on it, patting the spot beside him. Naturally, i sat down, letting out a soft breath, leaning my head on his shoulder. He pulled me closer, laying his head on mine. I pulled back for a second, looking up at him. Really looking.

Soft, not too pale skin, light blush and those soft brown eyes that always looked at me with a bit too much longing. His hair was always a bit messy, strands of auburn sticking out here and there. He cupped my cheek and stroked it gently.

"Hell, you're so beautiful, Y/n. How'd you end up in my room, holding my hand?"

"I dunno. A simple minded froggy told me my prince was waiting for me inside. I guess he was right."

I repositioned myself, sitting more comfortably on his bed. We were leaned close. One of his legs was hanging off the side of his bed, the other folded, and he was turned towards me. I was sitting on my heels, hands slowly moving up to link behind his neck. His eyes slowly fluttered closed, as did mine. Our heads came closer together, and our breaths mingled together, lips close, closer and closer when..

"JIJIIIII! WE'RE HOMEEE!"

We jumped apart, startled from his mum's loud voice. She peeked in his room, surprised to see me there.

"Oh Y/n! Hi! Jiji didn't tell me he's bringing you over! I hope i didnt interrupt anything for you two!"

Jiji urged his mum out of his room, groaning once she closed the door behind herself.

"That woman's got the *worst* timing, i swear."

"I mean, at least she was loud enough that we were warned in time, i guess. She's not bad, Jiji, she's just a bit of a... A cockblock."

He laughed at that, and so did i. We joked around, and he introduced his plush animals to me, both of them from when he was a little kid.

His mum asked me to stay for dinner, but i had to decline, my mum most likely lonely at home. Jiji insisted on walking me home, to which i protested *much* less.

We walked, hand in hand, continuing our light-hearted conversation. Once in front of our house, i turned to him with a smile and a quick hug, which he returned, and nuzzled his head in my shoulder.

"Do you have to gooooooo?"

"Yeah, i dont want to either... But, life's just life, i guess. Thanks for walking me home, and hanging out was really really fun. We should definitely do this again, froggy."

"Of course, my queen. I'm free for you whenever you need me. Although next time, we should definitely leave my mum out of it. Definitely."

"Hehe, agreed. Again, thanks, Jiji. I'll see you Monday on the way to school?"

"Monday can't come soon enough."

I decided to be bold and pulled him down to me, lightly pecking his lips.

Jiji seemed like he wanted more, but i pulled away, and quickly put a finger above his lips.

"Next time, okay?"

"Ugh, fine. I hate you for this, you know."

"Oh you'd never be able to hate me, dummy."

"Text me later, queen?"

"Definitely, froggy."

Notes:

It felt kinda rushed... But i kinda love this chapter the most. Jiji's just silly.

Just a short intro into the situation. The story will definitely pick up soon!
