Teapot of Romance

Summary:

Aether has decided to gather his favorite ships and put them in his teapot. Chaos ensues as they not only interact with those they are enamored with, but those of the other nations.

Chapter 1: It Begins

Notes:

Okay, look. All of the fics I write are focused on one ship, but while I was writing a Xiaother fic (it will be posted soon, I promise), I had to include a scene in the teapot, and it got out of hand. I just love them all and oh my goodness they are spinning so fast in my brain, I just had to write a fic about them. This fic will not be beta read, and it will (hopefully) be updated regularly.

I am sorry to say that I will be playing favorites (guilty as charged). The only ships with explicitly romantic content are the following: Kaebedo, Sethoscara, Clorivia, and Xiaother. There will be interactions between the other ships, of course, but they can be interpreted as platonic or romantic. Upon request, I will write also non beta read one shots that are very obviously romantic about these other pairings.

Kaeya
-------------------------

Kaeya had a lot of certain things to say to the Traveler.

Jean had revealed to the Traveler that Kaeya had been having trouble finding housing for a while. Especially after he was kicked out of his previous apartment because he made a little mistake when trying a new recipe. Somehow, every apartment was "without vacancy" when Kaeya sought a room. So, of course, out of the kindness of his heart, the Traveler offered Kaeya a room. In a mansion. Not only that, but it was in some kind of magic god realm that was absolutely beautiful.

It was too much. Kaeya politely turned him down. He didn't even know what he would do if he lived in that massive house. But still, he struggled to find housing. He eventually gave into the Traveler's insistence and accepted a room. The deal was that if the Traveler gave Kaeya a room, then Kaeya would pay rent, which the Traveler insisted against.

The first day he was there was fine. It was empty, and Kaeya was able to adjust. His bedroom was massive. He could fit all of his previous belongings in it. His room was also connected to a bathroom, which proved to be efficient. The second day was when the problem arose.

Kaeya walked into the kitchen with his own groceries, not wanting to use the Traveler's. He started cooking chicken skewers, somehow one of the only recipes he could make without also creating a disaster.

The sizzling filled the room, as well as the scent of cooking chicken. Kaeya smiled at the familiar smell.

"That smells- Kaeya?"

Kaeya turned around, and was greeted by the sight of Albedo, looking perfect and beautiful as always.

"Albedo? What are you doing-" Kaeya sighed, "You live here too?"

Albedo nodded.

Traveler has some explaining to do. Kaeya thought, I swear, if this was intentional, I am going to have a talk with him.

Kaeya smiled at him, "Well, are you hungry?"

Albedo brought a hand to the back of his head and fidgeted with his ponytail, "I mean, as long as it wouldn't inconvenience you..."

"Oh, it's quite alright. I doubt anyone as beautiful as you could inconvenience me," Kaeya hummed.

Of course, the flirty words had no effect on the alchemist. He probably should've made it clear to the Traveler that he was only interested in Albedo because of that symbol on his throat. It had absolutely nothing to do with Albedo's bright blue eyes that could rob Kaeya's lungs of air, or how energetic and happy he got when talking about what he loved, or the kindness and joy in his amazing smile...

The oil in the pan popped, and a drop stung the one space on Kaeya's hand that his glove didn't cover. Kaeya huffed in annoyance as his other hand hovered over the space, using cryo to cool it down. He was only slightly grateful that the small burn snapped him out of his reverie.

All Kaeya's investigations had told him was that Albedo did not have bad intentions, in fact, his actions had only helped the knights and the city. But that star... something was up, and Kaeya was curious. He could investigate, and maybe get a little closer to the mysterious alchemist, further extending Kaeya's influence. That could certainly be useful.

Kaeya placed a plate with the skewers on the massive table. He silently hoped that there weren't any strangers living in this home, at least not enough to fill those seats. There were at least ten.

Albedo smiled softly, "Thank you."

"Why, of course. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I simply let you starve," Kaeya replied smoothly, taking one for himself.

Kaeya took a bite, the savory taste flooding his mouth. There was a small kick to it, which was undoubtedly the lemon that Kaeya had decided to add, as he thought it would be a fun addition. He was right.

"This is quite good," Albedo mused, "I didn't know you could cook."

"I can't," Kaeya corrected, "Mostly just this. Everything else I even try becomes a larger disaster than anyone who sees your smiling face."

"Are you saying that my face could be used as a weapon of destruction?"

Kaeya chuckled, "If you wanted to use it that way, then yes."

"Hm," Albedo tapped his chin, "You are quite the wordsmith."

"Thank you."

"Have you ever written any poems?"

"Why, yes."

"Well, they must be quite beautiful, as they were made by such a charming and smart person."

Kaeya felt his face heat. He had heard this from a lot of people, but... Albedo was genuine. And, well, it was Albedo.
"
Albedo chuckled, "Wow, you sure can dish it out, but you can't eat it.""

"I... I'm just not used to it."

"Hm. I am quite surprised. You are, of course, quite handsome."

"I... I don't usually let others..."

Albedo tilted his head, then finished, "Compliment you?"

Kaeya shook his head, feeling uncharacteristically nervous.

"You need a few compliments, it seems,"

"I don't know about that."

"Hush, I'm being nice."

"Okay."

"Be kinder to yourself. You really are worthy of praise, despite whatever you think."

You don't know what I've done, or what I am.

"I have to go, I have work," Albedo smiled softly, "If you want, tonight I can help you cook without burning the house down?"

Kaeya laughed, "I would like that."

Albedo stood up and walked to the door, then opened it, looking back at Kaeya, "See you tonight, then?"

"See you."

The door closed behind him.

Kaeya smiled as he sighed. Gods, that smile...

He stood up and washed the dishes. Yeah, he wasn't really upset, but still, the Traveler would be hearing about this.

Albedo
-------------------------

"I see what you've done," Albedo huffed.

Aether grinned, "I have no idea what you're talking about."

"You moved Kaeya into the teapot. Of course you know what I'm talking about."

"Aw, come on. I thought you'd make great roommates, that's all."

Albedo folded his arms, "Oh, so it has nothing to do with the time I admitted that I might have the smallest crush on the captain?"

"Noooooo of course not!" Aether's smile widened as he helped Albedo clean his workspace.

"Well, I'm moving back into the headquarters now," Albedo handed Aether a candy from a box that Jean had gifted him earlier, "The last thing I want is to bother Kaeya, and I certainly do not want to make him move out."

"Don't move out! The house is massive. I doubt that you and Kaeya will cross paths that often, and if you do, you guys are already friends, it won't hurt for either of you to talk to each other. I think you guys will make really great friends," Aether popped the candy into his mouth, "Once you get to know him, Kaeya's actually really sweet, and trust me, the quickest way to his heart is being nice. Honestly, I'm surprised he's not head over heels for you at this point."

Albedo snorted, "Please. Kaeya would probably be the last person on Teyvat to fall in love. He has turned down quite literally every attempt at getting him to do so, and every time, Lisa will come and rant to me about it, so no, I'm not really keeping track. Not on purpose, anyways."

Aether chuckled, "You'd be surprised."

"I don't think I would."

"Just don't move out, okay? It won't hurt to stay. Besides, think of how much fun Klee would have in there! She can't really do so if you don't live there," Aether pouted.

"Kaeya babysits Klee from time to time."

Aether sighed, "Please? Just give it a chance."

Albedo brought a hand to his head, "Fine. Just please don't push us into a relationship. I'd rather things not be awkward between us."

Aether grinned, "Yeah, I can do that."

Albedo exhaled in relief. Hopefully, this wouldn't be a total disaster.

Aether
-------------------------

When Aether came back to the teapot, the last thing he expected was for Kaeya to be cooking.

"Uh, is there a fire extinguisher nearby?" He teased, smiling, "You know, just in case."

Kaeya brought a hand to his chest, "You wound me! I will have you know that I have an excellent teacher, already standing by, ready to eliminate any threats."

Albedo sighed from somewhere Aether couldn't see him, "He's actually doing fine. I don't think he needs my help." He came out from behind Kaeya, "He'll be a chef in no time."

Kaeya hummed doubtfully, "I'm not so sure about that."

"You doubt yourself too much. You just needed a little help, but now I think you got the hang of it."

"It smells delicious," Aether mused, smiling at the sweet scent of baking pastries, "What are you making?"

"Well, I was just going to teach him how to make cake, but he wanted to keep going, so now we're making ice cream," Albedo eyed Kaeya, "Well, he's making it. I'm just kind of here."

"Oh, you sell yourself too short," Kaeya huffed, "No one watches someone else cook with the skill or grace that you do."

Albedo laughed, and Kaeya's smile brightened a significant amount.

Oh, they're both falling. And hard. Aether realized. At this point, he didn't even have to do anything for them to soon find themselves enamored.

"I'm headed up to my room," Aether smiled at them both, "Call me when it's ready. It is obviously bound to be delicious."

"Oh, I have no doubt that it will be," Albedo returned his smile.

"I do," Kaeya pouted, "I would be lying if I said that the cake came along seamlessly."

Albedo put a gentle hand on Kaeya's arm, "They were small mistakes, they won't ruin it. You did excellently."

Kaeya's gentle smile returned as he gazed softly at Albedo.

Oh yeah. This will definitely work.

Notes:

If you can't tell, I'm going to have three parts to each chapter, just like this one, and each will be of a different perspective.

Also, I absolutely fidget with my ponytail when I wear my hair up. Did I project this onto Albedo? ...no.

Edit: I now have a Tumblr blog! :D you can find me here: https://www.tumblr.com/fable0211

Chapter 2: We Love Chongyun

Summary:

Albedo and Kaeya are joined by two teenagers from Liyue, and Kaeya might have a few issues...

Notes:

I'm ignoring language barriers lol

I'm also not using a specific design for the teapot so bear with me :P

Chapter Text

Chongyun
-------------------------

Chongyun didn't know what to think when the Traveler offered for him to live with Xingqiu as well as two other people he didn't know. He was simultaneously shy about living with strangers and not wanting to disappoint the Traveler.

"I-I don't know," Chongyun stammered. "I-"

"Aw, don't be shy, Yun-yun. I promise, they're nice people, and you'll have Xingqiu with you," Aether smiled sympathetically. "Why don't you spend a few days there, and if it's too much, you can leave. I won't be disappointed or hurt."

Chongyun took a deep breath, then nodded, "I'll give it a try."

But now, as he stood in front of the mansion, he remembered just how scared he was.

Breathe, Yun-yun. Traveler wouldn't have recommended this if he didn't think it was good for you.

Just as Chongyun moved to open the door, it opened on its own, startling the hell out of him.

"Chongyun! Hi!" Xingqiu smiled at him. "I was going to come out to wait for you, but you're already here!"

Chongyun hummed curiously. Xingqiu seemed a lot more... animated than usual. The appearance of his friend did ease his spirit, and he cooled down.

"Hello," Chongyun replied, tilting his head. "Is there something happening?"

Xingqiu grinned, "I'm won at TCG."

Oh. Of course. Xingqiu was always happy when he won. Chongyun found his strange competitiveness concerning, but he did like seeing Xingqiu so happy.

Xingqiu moved out of the way, letting Chongyun in. The entrance was rather large, opening up to a living room with a marble fireplace on the wall to the right, souvenirs from all over the eastern edge of Teyvat decorating it. Three simple blue-grey couches made a circle around it, throw pillows and blankets strewn randomly across them. A coffee table of a dark wood color sat in the middle. All of this was on top of a soft-looking white rug with blue swirls on it. The floor was the same wood and color as the coffee table, and the walls were a simple white. On the far wall was a piano in between two staircases leading to a second level. On the left side of the room was a dining table with twelve chairs. A horizontal half-wall separated the kitchen from the main room.

Chongyun gasped in awe, "This place is huge."

Xingqiu chuckled, "I know. It was honestly... kind of lonely without you."

Chongyun smiled softly, "I missed you, too."

Xingqiu folded his arms, "Why are you saying that? I didn't miss you or anything. It's absurd for you to say such."

Chongyun could tell that he was just trying to hide his vulnerability. It took a long time of knowing Xingqiu to see when he was lying and when he wasn't.

"I'm sure you didn't," Chongyun let out a small laugh.

Xingqiu elbowed him, letting out his own giggles, "Shut up."

A blonde man came out from a hallway to the right, "Oh, Xingqiu, you're back already? Who's this?" His voice was gentle and kind.

"Hello," Chongyun waved, attempting to smile. "I'm Chongyun."

The pretty man held out a hand, "My name's Albedo. It's a pleasure to meet you."

Chongyun shook his hand. It was cold, but firm. Almost suspiciously so. Chongyun felt as if there was something... off, about Albedo. He couldn't tell what it was, or whether it was bad or not.

"Yun-yun, is something wrong?" Xingqiu asked.

Chongyun shook his head, "No, it's nothing."

Albedo gave Chongyun a strange look, as if he had received the strange feeling that Chongyun did, "Are you somehow connected to the ley lines?"

"What?" Chongyun gave him a confused look, then his eyes widened. "Oh, you can sense my elemental energy. No, I have a pure yang spirit. It makes many things about me volatile. I easily scare off spirits without even needing to do an exorcism, which gets really annoying, as I am an exorcist."

Albedo laughed, "I can see how it gets difficult. Are you hungry? We have some leftover chicken skewers in the fridge that I can heat up."

Chongyun perked up, "That sounds delicious. Just, please don't heat it up. I can't eat food that's too hot."

Xingqiu nodded, "I tried once, and it did not end well."

"That's an understatement," Chongyun sighed. "I had a yang attack so intense that I passed out."

Albedo nodded, "Noted. Meanwhile, if it won't bother you, I would like to hear more about your yang spirit. I would like to prepare precautions so that we can avoid disaster."

"Okay."

Xingqiu grabbed Chongyun's hand and led him to the couch, then showed him all of the "fascinating" weaponry that the Traveler used to decorate his home.

Albedo returned shortly, and Chongyun told him about the effects of his spirit, occasionally interrupted by Xingqiu who told stories in his usual flamboyant manner as examples.

All in all, it went much better than Chongyun expected it would.

Albedo
-------------------------

"They're really good friends," Albedo hummed.

"That's nice," Kaeya replied.

"Chongyun's really sweet,"

"Good for him."

"He has this interesting condition where..." Albedo paused, "You're not even listening, are you?"

"No, no, I'm listening."

They were on Albedo's bed, Kaeya, after begging an uncomfortable amount, was braiding Albedo's hair.

Albedo huffed, "Then what did I say?"

"You were talking about how much you like them, and how you're probably going to become their mother."

Albedo folded his arms, "I didn't say that at all."

"Really? That's what I heard. You've been talking about how cute they are for ten minutes."

"I never said they were cute, either."

Kaeya ran a hand through some of Albedo's loose hair, and Albedo had to admit that it felt great.

"You've been using synonyms, Albedo."

Albedo sighed, "Fine," Then quieter. "They are really cute."

Kaeya laughed, and butterflies brushed Albedo's stomach at the sound.

"You're so sweet," Albedo could hear the smile in Kaeya's voice.

This, unlike Kaeya's usual flirts, actually affected Albedo, because this wasn't Kaeya's facade, this was his actual loving, kind self showing through.

Kaeya put a finger on one of Albedo's ears, "I actually managed to make you blush this time. I never noticed that your ears turn pink, too. Cute."

Kaeya was not making this easy for Albedo. If he were like this all the time, he would surely drive Albedo crazy.

Kaeya wrapped his arms around Albedo's torso and pulled him close. Albedo gasped. If his heart could beat, it would be pounding in his ears.

"Do you just like it when I say that you're sweet?" Kaeya mumbled. Albedo could feel the vibrations of his voice in his chest, and he was so close... "Or is it something else?"

Albedo was sure that he was very, very red now, "The second one."

"Mm," Kaeya buried his face in Albedo's neck, and Albedo forgot for a moment that he didn't need to breathe, his lungs doing so at an increased pace.

That was when he realized; something was wrong. Kaeya had been quiet all day, and had been extra clingy, staying close to Albedo. And even now, late at night, he was here instead of in bed.

"Kaeya?" Albedo whispered, "What's wrong?"

Kaeya shook his head, causing Albedo to feel sparks wherever he touched, "Nothing."

"Kaeya..." Albedo cooed, "Did you have a nightmare last night? It's been haunting you all day, hasn't it?"

Kaeya didn't move, then nodded weakly, "I'm sorry if I bothered you, it's just... being around you, i-it made it easier."

Kaeya would never know how soft and fuzzy that made Albedo feel, "Hey, it's okay. You can stay here with me for the night, okay? Just get some sleep."

"I don't want to," Kaeya's voice was raw.

"I know," Albedo put a hand on Kaeya's head, rubbing small circles into his scalp, "I know. I'll be here. I can keep you safe."

"Promise?"

"I promise."

They fell asleep like that, lying down while Kaeya held Albedo close to him. It was the best Albedo has ever slept.

Kaeya
-------------------------

Kaeya felt guilty. He had stayed with Albedo all day, hoping to be distracted by his presence, and therefore practically ignored the newcomers, even when Xingqiu challenged Albedo to TCG, Kaeya just watched without a word.

Then the concern Albedo showed for him... It felt good to know that he cared. Albedo didn't pretend, or lie. He was notorious for being blunt. Albedo was still kind to him, after knowing more than Kaeya would like him to. Albedo knew that Kaeya was supposed to destroy Mondstadt. He had hinted at such. But Albedo didn't look at him differently. It felt liberating to be around him, because he didn't have to pretend. He didn't have to be scared of getting hurt, and he would rather die than hurt Albedo.

He was thinking this over, a dreamy smile on his face, as he looked at the fire in the fireplace.

Chongyun kept glancing at him with a confused look, and Xingqiu just smiled widely.

"What?" Kaeya mumbled.

"Well, Captain, some would say that you have 'moony eyes,'" Xingqiu chuckled.

Chongyun sighed, "I do not understand that term. That look has nothing to do with the moon."

"It is simply a phrase! The point is that the Captain is in love, Yun-yun!"

Chongyun and Kaeya both gave him a startled look.

Xingqiu shook his head, "Captain, you don't smile the same when you look at the Alchemist, and your face is quite flushed when he gives you a compliment. You stare off into the distance with a dreamy look, obviously thinking about him. That sounds like love to me."

Kaeya chuckled, "Well, to me that sounds like an Inazuman light novel. Is that where you're getting your ideas, Xingqiu?"

"Excuse me, Sir Kaeya, but he has a point," Chongyun tapped his chin, "You do behave differently around Mister Albedo."

"That... doesn't mean anything," Kaeya huffed. Cute, huh Albedo? Just wait until they team up on you. "It certainly doesn't mean I love him."

Chongyun and Xingqiu gave him varying looks of doubt.

Albedo happened to open the door at that moment, his arms full of bags, "Hey, guys, I'm home!"

Kaeya perked up, "Hi!"

Albedo chuckled, "You seem cheerful. I was gone before you woke up, did you sleep well?"

Kaeya nodded, then rushed to his side to help with those bags.

Albedo looked at the other two, "Thanks, Kaeya. I brought back some groceries, so you guys can pick what we eat tonight."

Xingqiu grinned, "Did you bring back any seafood?"

Albedo smiled softly, and Kaeya felt his heart do a flip, "I brought some fish and seaweed, as I remembered you loved it. I can cook up some fish and noodles. Don't worry, Chongyun, I'll chill some for you."

Chongyun smiled, "Thank you, Mister Albedo."

"I'll get to work, then."

Albedo went to the kitchen, and Kaeya followed, helping him put away groceries.

"I take it you didn't have any nightmares?" Albedo said quietly to avoid the boys hearing.

Kaeya shook his head, "Thank you. I... I really needed that."

"Of course," Albedo smiled fondly. "I'll never turn you down when you need me."

Kaeya's heart should've gotten into acrobatics, because at this point, it was going to be a professional.

"I..." Kaeya let out a nervous breath, then chuckled. "I still don't know how you got out of the bed without waking me up. I'm usually a light sleeper."

"I happen to be extremely careful," Albedo smirked. "Although, it did take a little longer than half an hour."

Kaeya laughed. Okay, maybe those boys did have a point.

"I'll make the food," Albedo hummed. "You go talk to Xingqiu and Chongyun you were rather distracted yesterday."

Kaeya couldn't stop himself from pulling Albedo into a hug.

Albedo hugged him back. His embrace felt so sweet...

"Thank you again, Albedo," Kaeya whispered. "Really. I mean it."

"Thank you, too," Albedo murmured. "I've never slept that good in my life."

Kaeya finally let him go, then reentered the living room, welcomed by a chorus of "I told you so"s.

Chapter Text

Xiao
-------------------------

The Traveler had invited Xiao into his abode in a strange way. Not to live there, of course, but simply to visit. The strange part was not that he asked the question, in fact, Xiao had come to expect these random acts of "friendship" that Traveler performed. No, it was that The Traveler's face was bright red, and he stumbled over his words like a bird trying to fly for the first time.

"I do not see why you would want me to come simply for a visit. I have other uses, as well," Xiao tilted his head curiously. "But... if you call for me, I will answer." He was curious. He also... enjoyed time around the Traveler. It made him feel less torn, less pained. It could've been the curious power around him that Xiao had yet to figure out, or it could've been the unfamiliar warmth in Xiao's core that he somehow knew had nothing to do with the elements or his curse.

Aether smiled, his cheeks losing some of the red color, "Okay, great! I-I'll call you tonight, then?"

Xiao frowned, "You need not inform me first, but... I'll make sure to be there."

"Thank you! Bye!" Aether grinned as he waved.

"Bye," Xiao said quietly, ignoring the desire to pull him into an embrace and hold him like that forever.

Instead, his heart ached as Aether teleported away.

-------------------------

Xiao heard his name spoken softly on the wind, and he knew immediately that it was the Traveler. He tried to ignore the rush of almost excitement that bubbled up in his chest, as he learned that attempting to stop it only made it worse.

He was there in the blink of an eye. His immediate impression was that the Traveler's realm was much... softer than most he'd been in. His karma usually corrupted Adeptal realms, and he had warned the Traveler of this fact, but instead of feeling the corruption seep into the air around him, as usual, the opposite happened. The edges of the knives digging into his soul dulled, and they were a little less deep than Xiao was used to. It was almost as if the Adeptal realm had taken some of Traveler's soothing power.

"This..." Xiao mused. "This is strange."

"What do you mean?" Traveler tilted his head.

"It-" Xiao paused, realizing that if he told Traveler, then he would insist that Xiao stay here more often, and he couldn't afford to let himself grow reliant on the relief that both the realm and the Traveler's presence offered. "Nothing. It's quite warm."

Traveler smiled, and oh gods, he was pretty, "I like it that way. It's cooler in the house, and if it gets too warm, we can take a dip in the pond while Tubby lowers the temperature."

"Oh," Xiao turned, finally seeing RainCalmer. He bowed respectfully. "I apologize, RainCalmer. I did not notice you."

"It is quite alright, Adeptus Xiao," RainCalmer hummed happily. "I have no trifles with simply being unnoticed. It makes me feel at peace."

Xiao wished he could go unnoticed, but still, he caught attention. He nodded in understanding.

"What did you wish to show me?" Xiao turned back to Traveler.

The Traveler smiled sheepishly, "Actually, I wanted you to show me a few things."

Xiao wrinkled his nose, "I do not understand."

Traveler chuckled, "Aw, you're so cute when you do that."

Xiao's face heated, "I-I am not-"

"Cute?" Traveler chuckled, then leaned closer, nearly whispering in Xiao's ear, but not quite. "That little nose scrunch says otherwise."

Xiao's cheeks undoubtedly turned even redder.

Traveler laughed, "Oh, teasing you is too satisfying."

Xiao exhaled with a strange mix of relief and disappointment, "So, you weren't serious?"

The Traveler's cheeks turned pink, "I-I mean, I was teasing, but... you are really-"

The door to the house flew open.

"Traveler! You're home! We-" Chongyun paused his eyes widening. "Adeptus Xiao!" He squeaked, then gave him a hurried bow. "I didn't mean to interrupt, I'm so so sorry-"

"No need to apologize, Chongyun. We were about to go inside, anyways," Xiao gave him a short bow in return.

Traveler's face was still red as he nodded. Worry bubbled up in Xiao's throat at the sighed.

"Traveler, are you alright? You look very red," Xiao placed a hand on his forehead and frowned. "It feels like you have a fever."

"I'm fine Xiao," Aether took a few deep breaths. "You don't have to worry."

Xiao frowned, "Alright, just remember to take care of yourself."

"Uhm, uh, Traveler, Great Conqueror of Demons, I was saying that we have food inside. Albedo is a very good cook," Chongyn said nervously.

"Actually..." Traveler turned pink again. "I wanted to just spend some time with Xiao."

Chongyun looked momentarily surprised, and Xiao looked at him, confused.

"I... do not understand why you wish that of me, but if it is what you want, I will agree to it," Xiao nodded, strangely... excited. And relieved. He did not want to meet new people, nor did he want to spend his time with anyone but the Traveler.

Traveler's face lit up, "Okay! We can go up by the waterfall. It's peaceful there, so I think you'll like it."

Xiao saw Traveler's expression, his brown eyes bright with joy and his golden hair framing his perfect features. He looked beautiful.

"Take me where you wish," Xiao mumbled. "This place seems... nice."

Traveler beamed.

Moments later, they were on one of the separate islands.

Xiao knelt on the ground. It was quite peaceful. The only sound was that of the waterfall, and even that felt like background noise. Unimportant and unnoticed.

"I like it," Xiao nodded in approval.

"I'm glad," Traveler smiled as he plopped down unformally beside Xiao.

"How have things been in Inazuma?" Xiao asked, turning his attention back to the beautiful Traveler.

"It's been... interesting. Arriving in Ritou was actually really easy, but getting out of Ritou has been difficult," Traveler sighed.

"What is Ritou?"

Traveler told Xiao of his arrival in Inazuma, and the friends he had already made. Xiao was in awe of how easily the Traveler made friends. He talked with others so easily, and seemed to fear nothing.

"So, yeah. We have a way out of Ritou, but it's not very reliable. We'll see how it goes," Traveler tilted his head. "How about you? How have the last few weeks been?"

Xiao hesitated. The days blended together, and the only reason he kept track of time at all was because he admittedly missed the Traveler. There was a moment, however, when he once again stepped close to the borders of insanity. The only thing that saved him was Hu Tao, who took care of him for the rest of the day. Xiao refused to burden her longer, and left as soon as he could.

"It has been as it normally is," Xiao responded simply.

The Traveler narrowed his eyes, "I have a feeling that something happened."

"Nothing happened."

"Was it a karma attack? Did you get hurt at all?"

"I am uninjured."

"So you had a karma attack," Traveler's eyebrows creased in concern. "Are you okay?"

Xiao hadn't been "okay" in centuries.

"I'm fine."

"Xiao, when you lie to me, I get even more worried."

"You shouldn't worry. I am no different than I have been in centuries."

The Traveler looked down, "That's exactly what worries me."

Xiao didn't know what to do. Traveler was sad, and Xiao was incredibly inexperienced with emotions, but he didn't want Traveler to be sad. Xiao put his hand on the Traveler's, hoping that it would have some effect.

"Traveler, I promise that I am fine," Xiao hesitated. "I... I did have a karma attack, but Hu Tao helped me and nursed me back to health. I am alright. It is in the past now."

Traveler sighed, and his head dropped onto Xiao's shoulder. Xiao swore he couldn't breathe for a moment. Traveler seemed to radiate warmth, and that strange power of his dulled the pain that constantly ate at Xiao's soul.

"Aether," Traveler said quietly.

"What?"

"My name. Aether. Please use it."

"Aether," Xiao repeated softly.

"You make it sound holy."

"It feels holy. I assume that not many know that name."

"You'd be correct."

"I... have to go," Xiao hesitantly stood up, Aether's head leaving his shoulder.

Aether frowned, "Can't you stay a little longer?"

"I can't. I have monsters to slay and people to protect," Xiao shook his head. "I will see you later?"

Aether smiled, "Of course."

"Bye, Aether."

He was gone in the blink of an eye.

Xingqiu
-------------------------

"Ooh, someone's got a cruush~" Xingqiu lay on the couch, his head hanging off the edge.

The Traveler, still red, threw a pillow at him, "Shut up."

Chongyun sat next to Xingqiu and Albedo sat next to the Traveler. Chongyun shifted uncomfortably, avoiding the pillow.

"Hey, it's not my fault you wanted to take fucking Adeptus Xiao on a date. Just the two of you, huh?" Xingqiu threw the pillow back at him.

Traveler huffed, "You're one to talk."

Chongyun frowned curiously as Xingqiu sat up, blushing, "Xingqiu, do you like someone?"

"No, he's just trying to be clever," Xingqiu glared at Traveler, who smirked.

Albedo gave an exasperated sigh, "Chongyun, do you want to learn to paint while the cats fight?"

"Cats... Oh! Yes, I think painting would be fun!" Chongyun smiled, clearly excited.

Xingqiu felt as if his heart sped up significantly. Chongyun had no right to look that cute. Actually, Chongyun was probably the only one who had the right to look that cute.

"You're hopeless," Traveler sighed once they were gone.

"You're hopeless!" Xingqiu squeaked. "Look, it's not my fault that he's so sweet. I can't... I..."

"Yeah, yeah, I know. The moment he smiles, even a tiny one..."

"I fucking melt. He's just so cute. He's just... ugh," Xingqiu hid his blushing face.

"You know, there are better ways to get his attention than bully him,"

"I don't bully him, it's just... light teasing."

"Xingqiu, you actively try to give him a yang attack. That's bullying."

"I just want to have a special moment with him!"

"You're lucky that Chongyun is one of the most forgiving people I have ever met. Try actually being nice for once. He already notices you, so make the most of it. Hell, just walk up to him and say you like him."

"I tried that already. He just gave me a confused look and said, 'I like you, too. We're friends, aren't we?'"

"Oh dear."

Xingqiu slouched in the seat, "I should probably just get over him."

"Don't do that, you still have a chance."

"Are you kidding me? I think I'm going to be stuck in the friendzone for the rest of my life."

"Hey, at least your crush is educated in modern society. Xiao speaks like a priest. It's kinda annoying and endearing at the same time."

Before Xingqiu could respond, the front door opened to reveal Kaeya and a little girl dressed in red. She immediately ran and hopped on the Traveler's lap and hugging him tightly.

Traveler laughed, "Hi, Klee. How was your day with Kaeya?"

"Klee learned how to fish!" The girl, Klee, jumped on the couch next to the Traveler. "She did it without blowing them up!"

"Klee, don't put your shoes on the couch," Kaeya scolded. "You'll get all the dirt on it."

"Oh, right! Sorry, sorry!" Klee scrambled off of the couch, then finally seemed to notice Xingqiu. She hid behind Kaeya's legs, eyes wide.

Xingqiu frowned. She seemed quite energetic just a second ago...

Kaeya put a hand on her head, "Klee, this is Xingqiu. He lives here with me and 'Bedo."

Klee's nose scrunched up, "Soon, sin, sing-"

Xingqiu chuckled. It wasn't the first time someone had struggled to pronounce his name.

"Hi, Klee," Xingqiu smiled softly.

Klee looked at him warily, "Kaeya, can we go see 'Bedo?"

Kaeya looked around, confused, "Where is Albedo?"

"He's in his studio, teaching Chongyun how to paint," Traveler answered.

Xingqiu frowned, "He has a studio?"

"Yeah. He moved his alchemy and painting stuff from his lab in Dragonspine here, and I gave him a room for it," Traveler gave Klee another hug. "Don't do anything Albedo doesn't tell you to do, okay?"

"Okay!" Klee's hand went back into Kaeya's. "Byyyee!"

Albedo
-------------------------

"So, if you hold the brush like this, you'll get wider strokes, and if you're painting a sky, then you'll need to use this-"

"'Bedo!" Albedo felt small arms wrap around his legs.

Albedo looked down, and a smile brightened his face, "Hi, Klee. When did you get back?"

"Twenty-two seconds ago!" She grinned up at him.

"Be careful. There's paint everywhere. Don't get it on your clothes."

"Okay!"

Albedo looked up. Kaeya was leaning against the doorframe, a light in his eyes. Albedo felt his face heat. Why is he looking at me like that?

Chongyun hummed, looking down at Klee, "We could finish this later. I won't mind."

"Oh, no, it's fine. Kaeya, Klee's toys are in the corner over there, on the bottom shelf of that bookshelf," Albedo pointed with his brush.

Kaeya nodded, then went to that corner, grabbing the bin. Klee followed him excitedly.

Albedo continued to teach Chongyun how to paint, thoroughly enjoying the process. He did enjoy teaching Sucrose and Timaeus, but he was admittedly much more passionate about art than alchemy. So now that he could teach Chongyun to do what he loved, he was happy. Especially with the sounds of Klee and Kaeya playing together in the corner.

"Who is she?" Chongyun asked, eyeing Klee curiously.

"Klee is my little sister. At least, that's how I see her. She's the daughter of a friend of my mother's, my Aunt Alice. Alice is almost constantly busy with important things, so she left Klee in my care. The Knights of Favonius usually assist me in this task, and I am forever grateful," Albedo explained.

"That's very kind of them," Chongyun smiled at Klee.

"It's kind of hard not to be fond of Klee," Albedo tapped Chongyun's brush and demonstrated the stroke he was looking for. "You're getting quite good at this."

"I don't know," Chongyun frowned. "I feel sloppy."

"That's part of art. Making mistakes, becoming better, it's all a part of the process."

"You could say that about almost anything else."

"I guess you could."

Kaeya suddenly stood and walked behind Albedo, examining the paintings.

"Do you need something?" Albedo hummed, not touching his brush to the canvas, as he knew that the nervousness that came with Kaeya's closeness could ruin the painting.

"I like it," Kaeya pointed at the rough image of a waterfall in the paintings. "Is that the waterfall here in the realm?"

Albedo nodded.

Chongyun gasped, "I didn't notice that!"

Albedo chuckled, "I never create imaginary landscapes. I'm not that creative."

"I think you could if you actually tried," Kaeya nudged him.

"'Bedo, you are the mostest creative!" Klee argued.

Albedo sighed, "Thanks guys, but can I finish my current painting first?"

Kaeya nodded and returned to playing with Klee. Chongyun lifted his brush in anticipation.

The rest of the evening was filled with the sounds of Albedo teaching and Klee and Kaeya playing. After a while, Klee fell asleep, and so did Kaeya. They slept on the couch, Klee lying on Kaeya's chest.

When they finished the painting, Chongyun seemed quite satisfied with his, and ran off to show Xingqiu, "if he's still awake."

Albedo cleaned up their mess, then looked to Kaeya and Klee. He smiled fondly, then lifted Klee from Kaeya's chest.

"Mm," Kaeya mumbled. "'Bedo?"

"Yes, Kaeya, it's me," Albedo whispered.

"Klee..."

"I have her. She's okay."

Kaeya's mumbled turned incoherent, and he was asleep again.

Albedo sighed and shook his head, still smiling. He left the studio, taking Klee into his room and tucking her into his bed. She was still sleeping soundly. Albedo pressed a kiss to her forehead, then went back to the studio, planning to spend the night studying, but Kaeya's eye was open, and he watched Albedo enter.

"Hi," Albedo walked up to him, kneeling so he was at eye level. "Why don't you go to your room for the night?"

"You put Klee in your bed, didn't you?" Kaeya murmured.

"I... did. Why does that matter?"

"Where will you sleep?"

"I don't need to. I'll just stay h-"

"'Bedo!" Kaeya whined. "You need sleep, just like everyone else."

"I'm not like everyone else," Albedo replied softly, remembering that Kaeya didn't know what he was.

"I don't care. You need to sleep."

"I'll be fine."

"Please, 'Bedo?"

Albedo sighed, "Klee's in my bed."

"Use mine," Kaeya snuggled further into the throw pillow. "I can sleep here."

"I don't want to make you sleep here."

"What? Would you rather we share the bed?"

"If I was willing to share a bed, why wouldn't I share with Klee?"

Kaeya looked into his eyes, "Why wouldn't you?"

Albedo paused. He wanted to be that close to Kaeya. It was a terrifying thought that he was scared to admit out loud.

"Okay," He whispered. "We can share."

Kaeya stood up and wrapped an arm around Albedo and squeezed him, "Great. Come on, I'll show you which room is mine."

Chapter Text

Aether
-------------------------

Aether never thought this would go so well. Everyone was becoming friends quite quickly. Even when Aether worked up the courage to tell them all his name, none of them judged him, and Kaeya bragged to a grumpy Xingqiu about how he was the first to know.

Even through months of struggle in Inazuma, the four of them never changed, and never failed to be there for Aether when he needed them. Sometimes, when that wasn't enough, Aether would hide in his room and call Xiao. The first time he did so, he broke down into tears, babbling about Teppei. Xiao held him and listened to him, occasionally murmuring assurances and staying until Aether eventually fell asleep from exhaustion. When Aether woke up, he was in his bed, and there was a cup of tea on his nightstand that was somehow still warm.

That was the moment he realized he was in love.

Aether thought back to this as he walked through the streets of Narukami island, when he was suddenly interrupted by a familiar, loud voice.

"Aw, come on Kujou!" Itto whined. "You won our last sparring match, fine. But pleeeeeeeease can we spar again? I need to redeem myself!"

"Absolutely not," Sara huffed. "You are more trouble than you're worth, Arataki. If I were to fight you again, I would win again, and you would be even more persistent in your pestering. It won't happen, so leave me alone." She turned to leave.

"But, when we spoke last night, you said 'maybe.'"

Sara froze, her whole body tensing. She clearly didn't want others to know that they had spoken the previous night.

Hmm... I could... Aether thought. There really did seem like something else was happening between Sara and Itto.

Sara sighed and turned back to Itto, a glare on her face, "We did not speak last night. I have not seen you since last week. Don't go about spreading such lies."

Says the one clearly lying...

Itto grinned, "I'm surprised you remember that! I barely did. Do you actually like being around me, Kujou?"

Sara's face reddened, but not in rage, "I do not. Go about your business, Arataki, and leave me alone."

Sara left. Itto's smile disappeared and he looked down at his feet.

"Hey, Itto!" Aether called.

Itto looked up, and his grin returned when he saw Aether, "Traveler, long time no see!"

"It's been two days."

Itto wrapped an arm around Aether's shoulders, "Exactly, long time!"

Aether laughed, "If I may, what was that all about?"

Itto's smile flickered, "Aw, it's just a little rivalry, that's all. I challenged Kujou, and I hate to admit it, but she beat my ass. I've wanted to make up for it since."

"Ah," Aether nodded. "So whatever you said about last night..."

Itto jumped and looked around, clearly making sure no one was there, before leaning in, "Look, you gotta be quiet, dude. I promised Sara I would keep it a secret. I only said that to try and make her mad."

"It worked," Aether hummed. "She was fuming."

Itto puffed up his chest in pride, "Yeah, I know. Anyways, last night, we saw each other on the beach, and we just talked. Nothing more."

"Huh," huh.

"Yeah, it really wasn't a big deal, but Sara said she didn't want anyone to know, and I'm not anything but respectful, so I kept it a secret."

"She won't be happy."

"Yeah, she won't. But that's alright, cuz it wasn't a big deal in the first place, and I didn't really say much, so she'll forgive me," Itto frowned. "I hope."

"Ah, she'll get over it."

"Itto!" Shinobu called. "I swear, if you were bothering Kujou Sara again, I-"

"Nice talking to you, Traveler, but it looks like I've got an angry Shinobu to talk to," Itto sighed, then ran off. "Byyyye!"

Aether waved. Shinobu's scolding seemed far away as he thought.

Itto and Sara. What if they had to live together...?

Kaeya
-------------------------

"I don't know why you believe you're so bad at cooking. The kitchen hasn't even burned down yet," Albedo hummed as he held a pan of burned meat.

Kaeya huffed, "Albedo, I just burned all the meat in that pan, and probably ruined said pan."

"And it's the first time you've done it," Albedo smiled as he tossed the pan into the trash along with the meat.

"How can you stay so positive?" Kaeya sighed.

Albedo slipped his hand into Kaeya's. They both had become bolder in shows of affection since they shared Kaeya's bed a few days ago. Kaeya looked back on that with fondness. They weren't even that close the entire night, but it was a clear statement to Kaeya that Albedo was at least interested.

"Kaeya, everyone makes mistakes," Albedo outlined the star on Kaeya's glove with his thumb. "Don't beat yourself up for making one. Besides, you know what you did wrong, so you can do better next time."

"That sounds incredibly cheesy," Kaeya pouted.

"Cheesy doesn't mean wrong," Albedo chuckled.

Kaeya looked down at their intertwined hands, then back at Albedo. Gods, he was so pretty. Those bright blue eyes and his messy blonde hair were both just so enchanting.

"So... Weinlesefest is coming up. Would you, maybe..." Kaeya paused, feeling his face heat. "Do you maybe want to go to the celebrations with me?"

Albedo's eyes lit up, "I... I would love to, but I'm not a big fan of large crowds."

"Oh," Kaeya sank. "I understand."

"But, maybe, if you wanted, we could do something just you and me?"

Kaeya perked up again, "Yeah. I would love that."

Albedo smiled, "I can't wait." He pressed a kiss to Kaeya's cheek, then left the kitchen, going down the hall and into his studio.

Kaeya sighed happily. He felt as if he were about to pass out, his nerves were so high. But Albedo agreed. He was going on a date with Albedo. He felt so warm... warmer than he had ever felt since he got his vision. If Albedo could like him, maybe hewasn't so horrible after all.

"So..." Aether said from behind him.

Kaeya spun, his eyes finding Aether leaving against the half-wall in between the kitchen and the living room.

Kaeya's face heated, "Tell me you didn't see all of that."

"I did see the part when you asked him out," Aether grinned. "I'm surprised you had the guts to do it."

Kaeya blushed further, "Look, it's not a big deal, alright? It's just a little date."

"A little date. Just the two of you. In a quiet, private place that's probably super romantic."

Oh, gods, he was going on a date with Albedo. Things could go terribly wrong... Or terribly right.

"Gods, I'm not ready for this," Kaeya leaned back on the counter. "What if things happen? What if he actually likes me back? What if he doesn't like me back?"

"Kaeya," Aether sighed. "You'll be fine. It'll be fun, and you'll get closer to him. You won't regret it."

Kaeya took a deep breath, "Thanks, Aether."

"Don't thank me now. I'm about to make your life a lot harder," Aether chuckled.

Kaeya frowned, "What do you mean?"

"Well, I have an idea, and it involves you guys having a few more roommates."

"I think we'll be fine. If we can deal with Xingqiu, we can deal with anything."

"I hope that's true, especially since one of them is loud and the other is... mean."

"And you're setting them up."

"Exactly."

"Just like you set up me and Albedo."

"Exa- what? I didn't set you up, you guys just happened to be the ones who would make the most of my offer!" Aether's smirk said otherwise.

"Uh huh. Anyways, I think we can handle mean and loud. As long as they're not both."

"They aren't. Itto is loud, but he's actually really nice and genuine, and Sara might be a little mean to people she doesn't like, but she's rather polite and quiet."

Kaeya nodded, "Great. Now I'm going to go hide in my room and mull over my life choices."

"Don't mull too hard. You have a date in a few days."

Kaeya rolled his eyes as he left the kitchen and went down the hallway. He paused at the doorway to Albedo's studio. It was open, showing Kaeya what was happening inside.

Albedo was standing in the middle of the room, his back to the door, painting on a canvas. Xingqiu was lying on the couch, talking animatedly about the book he was reading. Albedo often replied with "mm-hm"s and "I see"s while focusing on his painting. This one had the rough shape of a cecilia.

Kaeya smiled. He was so lucky to have these people. He very clearly didn't deserve it, but that was a burden for another day.

He went into his room, thoughts of Albedo carrying him someplace else.

-------------------------

Chongyun knew. Kaeya figured that Albedo would tell him.

"What are you planning to do for your date with Albedo?" Chongyun tilted his head.

Kaeya gave him a startled look.

Chongyun chuckled lightheartedly, "Albedo told me. Did you not want him to do that?"

"No, no, it's fine. Just please, please don't tell Xingqiu," Kaeya pleaded.

Chongyun nodded, "I won't. I know how he can get sometimes," His smile returned. "So? What do you plan on doing?"

"I'm still not sure," Kaeya pouted. "I... could take him stargazing?"

"Honestly, that sounds like a great idea. At least, I would enjoy that. I think Albedo will, too."

"Chongyun, I've been meaning to ask..." Kaeya continued hesitantly, not wanting to make Chongyun uncomfortable. "Do you like Xingqiu? I mean, obviously, since you're friends, but like, do you have a crush on him."

Chongyun's face turned pink, "I-I... well, I just... it..."

Kaeya used his vision to let frost form on his fingers, and he pressed them to Chongyun's forehead, "Breathe, Chongyun."

"I'm fine, Sir Kaeya, just... flustered," Despite his words, Chongyun physically relaxed at Kaeya's cold touch. "That was, honestly, the last thing I expected you to ask."

"I'm sorry for asking. You don't have to answer."

"No, no, it's fine. You have good reason to ask, considering my... behavior around Xingqiu," Chongyun's cheeks turned rosy once more.

"Why, he must be quite charming to make you blush so."

Chongyun, surprisingly, shook his head, "No, it's not the charm or teasing, it's... you're going to think I'm crazy."

Kaeya snorted in amusement, "I have seen crazy, Yun-yun, and you are not it."

Chongyun looked away, "Well... Xingqiu is a little bit different once you get to know him. He really enjoys helping others, even though he'll complain about it, and he's so enthusiastic about the things he loves, and well, it's that side of him that I like." Chongyun blushed again, "I-I mean, of course I like every part of him, I mean-"

"I get it, Yun-yun," Kaeya interrupted.

Chongyun smiled, "Yeah, you probably do. I can't believe I'm trying to explain my crush to someone who's been pining for who knows how long."

Kaeya blushed, "Shut up."

Chongyun laughed.

The two continued talking, the subject changing as much as Xingqiu's choice for his favorite book.

Kaeya would probably never tell Aether, but he was very, very happy in this little slice of paradise.

Chongyun
-------------------------

Chongyun felt fragile. It was a frustrating feeling. He felt as if he were on the edge of breaking, like one more step would make him shatter.

He hadn't had an unprovoked yang attack in a long while, but that could just mean he was due for one. Chongyun's head was light, and he felt sick. Worse, he was warm. A bad sign.

He slumped on the couch, trying to ignore his nausea. Xingqiu mirrored the action.

"Weh," Xingqiu blurted.

"Muh," Chongyun agreed.

Chongyun stood and took a popsicle from the fridge. Xingqiu gave him a concerned look.

"Yun-yun, are you sure you're okay? It's barely even afternoon, and this is your third popsicle today," Xingqiu pouted.

Chongyun took his seat next to Xingqiu once more, "I'm just a little warm," He hummed. He didn't like lying to his friends, but he didn't like worrying them, either.

"Be careful, okay? Albedo went out this morning, and he's the only one who can help you in extreme cases, considering Dr. Baizhu's not here."

Chongyun gave him what he hoped was a reassuring smile, "Don't worry. If I have a yang attack, it probably won't be so serious."

Xingqiu still looked uneasy as Chongyun leaned forward and grabbed the book off of the coffee table; Xingqiu's latest novel, a sequel to one of Chongyun's favorites.

Xingqiu's eyes lit up, "Ah, that's one of my favorites. I only wrote the prequel so that that book made sense."

"Well, I love it," Chongyun mused. "It's a little complex, but a lot of fun."

Xingqiu gave him that smile. The smile that started Chongyun's entire crisis. Sometimes, Chongyun would forget that he wanted to be more than friends, then Xingqiu smiled like that, so genuine and sweet that it made Chongyun feel warm, but in a good way, not like his entire body was going to melt.

Xingqiu's head dropped onto Chongyun's shoulder, and he closed his eyes, "Can I nap here? M'sleepy."

Chongyun smiled to himself as his cheeks turned pink, "I don't plan on moving soon, so yes."

"Thank you," Xingxiu mumbled.

Chongyun couldn't tell when Xingqiu fell asleep, but it didn't matter if he was, because Chongyun couldn't pay attention to the book since he was so close. After around twenty minutes of trying, Chongyun gave up on the book and rested his head on Xingqiu's and closed his eyes.

Xingqiu let out a sigh, and Chongyun had to smile. His position wasn't exactly comfortable, but it still warmed Chongyun's heart with its magic.

In a few minutes, Chongyun was sound asleep.

-------------------------

Chongyun opened his eyes to find himself lying on the couch. His head was pounding, he was incredibly nauseous, and he was hot. That definitely wasn't good. He hoped that Albedo was back, he likely needed his help.

Chongyun lethargically stood up, and was immediately greeted by a head rush. He stumbled, and his skin felt like it was on fire.

He was having a yang attack. Or was he? He couldn't tell. All he knew was that he felt awful.

The world blurred around Chongyun as he dragged his feet to Albedo's studio. It felt like an eternity before he was at the door, where he knocked.

He leaned against the doorframe. The world was swimming around him. Had his body always been so heavy?

Another eternity passed before Albedo opened the door, but Chongyun's eyes met Xingqiu's instead. He was on the couch.

Xingqiu's leisurely attitude vanished, and he paled.

"Chongyun, what's wrong," Albedo immediately supported Chongyun, and he felt a little lighter.

"Chongyun?" Xingqiu put a cold hand on Chongyun's forehead. Chongyun hummed. It felt so nice...

"H-hot," Chongyun gasped. "It's... so... hot."

"He's burning up," Xingqiu noted nervously.

"Lay him on the couch, I have a cryo solution that should cool him down," Albedo moved with calm, practiced precision.

"I... it's..." The sides of Chongyun's vision blurred further.

"Hold on, Chongyun," Chongyun couldn't tell who said it.

"I... can't," Chongyun gasped.

Everything went black as Chongyun's eyes rolled back into his head and he lost consciousness.

Chapter Text

Xingqiu
-------------------------

Xingqiu paced outside the room nervously. Chongyun had been in there for way too long. Xingqiu remembered when Chongyun entered Albedo's studio. He had been incredibly red, and he was struggling just to stand up. It had terrified Xingqiu.

And now Albedo had kicked Xingqiu out of the room, leaving him to be preyed on by his worry and his anxieties.

Xingqiu took a few deep breaths. It failed to calm him down.

Finally, the door opened. Xingqiu's head snapped to meet Albedo's eyes.

"You can come in now," Albedo hummed. "Chongyun's not awake yet, though."

Xingqiu nodded, eager to get in and see him.If he's not okay...

Chongyun breathed a bit easier than before, and his face wasn't as flushed, but he was still obviously struggling.

"Oh, Yun-yun..." Xingqiu cooed sadly. "You told me you were okay."

"I've noticed that people lie a lot because they seek to protect themselves or those they care about," Albedo noted. "I think he just didn't want you to worry."

"Well, now I'm extra worried," Xingqiu ran a hand through Chongyun's hair and he leaned into Xingqiu's touch.

Xingqiu faltered, "This... isn't normal."

"What do you mean?"

"If he passes out from a yang attack, his spirit calms down while he's unconscious, but he's not getting any better. This isn't right," Xingqiu's throat became tighter.

Albedo felt Chongyun's forehead, then his pulse. He frowned.

"What is it?" Xingqiu pleaded.

"Has Chongyun ever been sick before?"

Xingqiu shook his head, "Not that I can remember."

Albedo sighed, "Well, I guess there's a first time for everything."

"He's sick?" Xingqiu's eyes widened. "That's not good. Not good at all."

"Do you mean that he'll be at incredible risk? Because yes. He very much is," Albedo put a towel under the faucet, getting it wet and put it on Chongyun's head. "We need to keep him warm if he is to recover, but his emotions need to remain neutral, otherwise he'll have much more yang attacks. It'll be hard, especially for him."

Xingqiu felt as if there were a hand squeezing his heart dry. Why did it have to be him? Why not me? I don't want him to hurt. I never intended for him to hurt. Tears clouded his vision.

Chongyun's eyes opened lethargically, "Xingqiu? Ow... my head..."

Xingqiu softened, a few tears finally falling, "Don't strain yourself, Yun-yun. You're sick, you need to be careful."

"I am? But- Xingqiu, you're crying," Chongyun put a shaky hand on Xingqiu's cheek, wiping away one of his tears.

"I'm okay," Xingqiu murmured, grabbing Chongyun's hand. "Everything's okay. Don't worry."

"You wouldn't be crying if everything was okay," Chongyun whispered. "What's wrong Qiu?"

"I..." Xingqiu choked out. "I'm scared."

"Of what?"

"You're sick. You've never been sick before. I don't know how to help you, and I know that it's going to hurt you. A lot. I don't want that to happen."

Chongyun smiled softly, "It'll end."

"Not soon enough."

"Qiu, it's okay. If I let you read to me, will you feel better?"

Xingqiu perked up, "Yeah, I would."

"Then you'll need a book."

Xingqiu hopped up and ran out of the room. He loved it when Chongyun let him read to him. It was always peaceful and calm, both of them enjoying the story, even if more often than not, Chongyun fell asleep on Xingqiu's lap or shoulder. If it were anyone else, Xingqiu would've been annoyed, but when it was Chongyun, he just felt... warm.

When he came back with one of his books in hand, he stopped at the door. He could hear Albedo and Chongyun conversing.

"Chongyun? How do you really feel?"

"I... will you tell Xingqiu?"

"No."

"Awful," Xingqiu's heart cracked. "My head feels as if it's about to explode, and I've never thought I would actually feel cold, but I do. My muscles feel so weak..."

"Why don't you want me to tell Xingqiu?"

"Well... Xingqiu means... a lot to me. He's always so kind to me, and I don't want him to worry. Don't get me wrong, I'd trust him with anything, but... I don't want him to be scared or stressed."

Too late. Xingqiu thought, throat tight. Chongyun's in pain. Chongyun's in pain and I can't do anything about it.

For the first time, Xingqiu felt... powerless.

Xingqiu opened the door, and he immediately ran to Chongyun and hugged him.

"Hey, Qiu, what's wr-" Chongyun began.

"Don't try to comfort me," Xingqiu interrupted. "This isn't about me, it's about you. Stop focusing on my hurt when you have your own to face. Focus on yourself, Yun-yun. How do you feel?"

"I.." Chongyun's voice cracked as he buried his face in Xingqiu's neck. "I'm scared. I-I'm alone."

Xingqiu felt the heat coming off of Chongyun increase significantly, "Deep breaths, Yun-yun. It's okay. I'm here, you're not alone."

Chongyun cried into Xingqiu's shoulder, his temperature fluctuating uncontrollably, but it never seemed to be warm enough to be incredibly dangerous for Chongyun. After a while, Chongyun ended up lying on top of Xingqiu, his head above Xingqiu's heart, while Xingqiu read the book he brought out loud. Albedo had left a while ago, seemingly intent on leaving the two alone. He entrusted Chongyun's care to Xingqiu, giving him many warnings about being careful.

"Qiu?" Chongyun mumbled. "I think I'm gonna fall asleep."

"Then go to sleep," Xingqiu whispered. "You need rest if you want to recover."

"I thought you didn't like it when I fell asleep while you were reading."

"I'll make an exception this time."

"I'm quite literally on top of you."

"Then I'll get some sleep, too. If you're going to fall asleep, then do it, Yun-yun. You need it, anyways."

"Okay..."

Moments later, Chongyun was asleep. Xingqiu put away the book and settled for running his hand through Chongyun's hair.

Xingqiu sighed. This felt... unique. Not in a bad way, it was just new. He felt emotionally exhausted, yet his heart was still going in circles.

"I'm gonna take a nap, too," Xingqiu whispered. "Goodnight, Chongyun."

Aether

-------------------------

Aether wished he had a kamera, just to have a little bit of blackmail.

Xingqiu and Chongyun cuddled on Albedo's couch, both sleeping deeply, as if a spell had been cast on them.

"I mean, they're cute, I just wish they didn't fall asleep in here," Albedo shook his head. "I can't do my experiments now."

"I think you'll be fine," Aether chuckled. "Now you can spend more time with Kaeya."

Albedo visibly sank, "Kaeya's in town today."

"Wow, you really miss him that much?"

He looked away, "Not that much..."

Aether raised an eyebrow.

Albedo sighed, "Okay, fine. I really miss him. I feel like a teenager with a crush, it's so pathetic."

Aether had to laugh, "Sometimes, you look like a teenager with a crush. I swear, you and Xingqiu do the exact same thing when you're flustered."

"You're not helping."

"That's the point," Aether winked at Albedo and left the room.

He didn't want to tell Albedo that it barely got any easier. Every day, Aether missed Xiao. It was an ache in his heart that never lessened unless the adeptus was right in front of or beside him.

Aether sighed and sank into the couch. Great, now he was thinking about him. Xiao's soft smile, Xiao's gentle touch, Xiao's calm voice...

It was as if the light was sucked out of his heart. It wasn't the same. He felt empty.

He stood up and went into his room. Gods, he felt as if he couldn't hold still. He paced, not knowing what to do. Everywhere he turned there was Xiao. His chest tightened, and he felt as if he were being strangled. He could barely breathe. He needed him. He needed to hold him, to have him. Aether felt so alone... he missed Xiao so much...

His throat tightened, and he ran into an empty room, slamming the door behind him.

Don't call Xiao don't call Xiao- He couldn't let Xiao see him like... like this.

His mouth opened anyways, the name on his tongue.

"Aether?" The door cracked open.

Aether panicked. Who was that? There was no way Xiao was already there. He hadn't said his name yet.

Albedo came into the room, then kneeled in front of Aether, "Hey." He gently touched Aether's cheek, and Aether had no choice but to lean into the touch.

Aether shook his head. He didn't want to talk.

"Ae, you need to tell me something. I know you can," Albedo implored. "It'll help."

"I-I know it was just a joke," Aether whispered. "Gods, I shouldn't be taking this so seriously, I just... gods, I miss him. I miss him with all my heart."

Albedo's worried expression softened into a smile, and he let out a warm chuckle.

"Don't laugh!" Aether kicked him playfully. "I'm serious!"

"I know, I know," Albedo pulled him into a hug. "Sorry. Believe me when I say that I know how you feel."

Aether dissolved into a mess of tears, "Why does it hurt so much? I thought that love was supposed to feel good."

"Sometimes it hurts. You're going to be okay," Albedo rubbed Aether's back, continuing to hold him close. "Just don't forget that even if Xiao isn't here, you're not alone. You have four people right here at home who would do whatever you asked of them."

"You would?"

"We all owe you, Ae. Of course we would."

"I don't want to take advantage of you like that."

"You're not taking advantage of us. Don't worry about it. You deserve everything good that comes your way."

Aether didn't respond. He didn't agree, but he didn't want to argue, either. I don't deserve Xiao. Well, he is the most amazing person in this world. I doubt anyone is good enough to deserve him.

Albedo switched from scratching Aether's back to running a hand through his hair, "Did you sleep last night?"

"Maybe a little bit."

"You need a nap then, Ae. I didn't want to say it, but you look like hell," Albedo let him go. "Come on. I'm not gonna carry you."

Aether pouted, "I don't want to."

"Too bad. Stand up."

Aether stood up, and Albedo stayed close, walking alongside Aether as they went up to his room.

Albedo paused in the doorway, "I'll bring you some tea."

"Mmkay," Aether's head finally felt heavy. He laid on his bed, taking off his shoes and scarf. He was so tired.

Albedo brought up the tea, and the scent cleared his head, but only made him drowsier.

He fell asleep without even putting his hands on the cup.

Chongyun
-------------------------

Chongyun could describe himself in two words: sick and confused.

All of the sudden, Aether couldn't help take care of Chongyun, and when Chongyun asked why, Albedo just said, "He needs to fix himself before he can help fix you."

Kaeya was still gone, even though night had passed twice now, and Albedo wasn't happy about that. Chongyun could hear him murmuring about the captain being a workaholic, which Chongyun found confusing, as it seemed as if Kaeya couldn't care less about his job.

Xingqiu had to leave because he had a "family emergency." Chongyun knew that he just said that when he wanted to hide in his room and write for the next couple of days. Xingqiu's grandpa had died four times before Chongyun realized the truth.

It was as if Chongyun's sickness was a catalyst for disaster. Maybe everyone just avoided the house because they didn't want to get sick, or maybe they just somehow all got busy at once. Chongyun couldn't tell. He was really bad at reading people.

Albedo was the only one who stayed. Chongyun warned him, saying that Albedo was going to get sick.

"I don't get sick," Albedo responded simply.

"That's what I said," Chongyun rasped. "Then, I got sick."

Albedo chuckled, "Well, let's just say that my situation is a little different from yours."

Chongyun racked his brain for reasons that this might be, but he couldn't imagine anything. Albedo was not a god, nor was he any similar spirit, like an adeptus or a youkai. Albedo had laughed when Chongyun asked him.

"Not many realize I'm not human," Albedo clarified. "But no, I am not a god nor archon. I don't have nearly that much power. Although, I don't doubt that my archon wishes we could swap places."

This made Chongyun even more confused. Who was Albedo? Was Klee actually his little sister? How old was he? Was his vision real, or could he manipulate the elements without it?

He couldn't think about that now. Thinking made him tired.

Gods, everything made him tired. Was this really how being sick felt? It was awful. Maybe he should be more sympathetic when Xingqiu falls ill.

He had three yang attacks so far. One when he got a little frustrated trying to get soup on his spoon, once when he had a nightmare, and one when he freaked out at what sounded like someone chopping down a tree. Chongyun had scolded himself repeatedly for the last one.

Luckily, he managed to get into his own room, so he wasn't a nuisance in Albedo's study. Albedo chastised him every time he used such language.

"It's not healthy to think so low of yourself. I did not have you move because you were a bother, but because you're in a more secure position, and it's much better to sleep on a bed than a couch," Albedo corrected calmly.

As the days passed, Albedo and Chongyun got closer. Eventually, Kaeya returned.

Chongyun didn't hear a lot of the conversation. Albedo didn't yell at Kaeya; Albedo never yelled. However, this was likely the closest to yelling he would ever get. His voice was firm, and he sounded quite worried about Kaeya, but when Kaeya responded he just sounded... tired. Albedo's voice got gentler as the conversation continued.

Shortly after, Kaeya entered Chongyun's room and crouched by the bed.

"Hey, Chongyun, how are you feeling?" Kaeya whispered.

"'M okay," Chongyun rasped. "My throat feels awful."

Kaeya touched Chongyun's forehead, and his head immediately cooled. Chongyun sighed in relief. That felt so much better.

"I'm sorry I wasn't here," Kaeya brushed Chongyun's hair out of his face. "I don't have any good excuse, so... I'm sorry."

"There's no way you could've known," Chongyun replied. "You have no reason to be sorry."

"Yes, I do."

"Is that what Albedo told you?"

Kaeya chuckled, "No, no. I'm actually sorry. I shouldn't have left you guys for so long, whether you were sick or not."

"Oh," Chongyun rubbed his head. "Then, what did Albedo say?"

"He was not happy," Kaeya frowned. "I hate that I worried him so much. He made me promise not to do this again."

"He cares about you. Of course he's going to make sure you don't disappear again."

"He shouldn't," Kaeya whispered.

"Why not?"

"He doesn't know..." Kaeya looked away. "Nevermind. It's not important. Have you gotten enough sleep?"

"Probably not. I've somehow been too warm and too cold at the same time, and I can't get comfortable," Chongyun shook his head.

"Then do your best to sleep. If you get too hot, call for me," Kaeya smiled softly, and Chongyun felt an immense amount of vertigo. Was this still the same Kaeya that cared for nothing?

"Okay."

Kaeya left the room, and Albedo came inside after a while.

"Hey, how are you feeling?" Albedo asked.

"Tired. And confused. Has Kaeya been kidnapped and replaced? I didn't know he could be so gentle."

Albedo let out a quiet laugh, "That's the same Kaeya. He's just... shaken. Whenever he disappears like that, he's likely off hunting criminals that have gotten too bold, or even killers. He just got back from one such hunt, and they're not exactly clean. And to return to find one of his best friends so sick they can barely even get up is not a great experience."

"Oh," Chongyun gave him a bitter smile. "Our luck is really something else, isn't it."

Albedo nodded, "Yeah. Just give him time. He'll get back to... normal."

Chongyun got even more confused. What did that hesitation mean? What was Chongyun missing?

It could wait. Right now, Chongyun could barely keep his eyes open.

He hated to leave Albedo there talking to himself, but he fell asleep in mere moments.
