Work Text:
When the clock ticked down into its final seconds, something that Elliot never thought would happen, happened. Instead of being thrown into 60 minutes of hell, he was instead thrown into an indefinite number of… something completely different. The others seemed to be just as confused as he was, looking around with anticipation for Jason to suddenly leap out and attack, or 1x1x1x1 to use his mass infection. But it never happened.
A bright blue sky and green baseplate is all that they were greeted with, and a single generator waiting patiently for them to get to work. Elliot has had his fair share of strange experiences after being forsaken, being stuck in an infinite loop of death and rebirth was strange in its own right. But those experiences always shared the same formula, running and struggling against whatever THE SPECTRE threw at him, desperately trying to survive.
“S-should we…?” Noob was the first to speak up, they looked around at the others. “T-this has never happened before.”
Builderman looked at Shedletsky and nodded, and the two began to advance towards the generator, Guest 1337 followed suit, keeping guard.
“I’m not too sure what’s happenin’ either,” Builderman said. “But I feel that if we don’t get to work soon, we’ll be stuck in this place fer’ a while.”
The two started to examine the generator, poking and prodding at its wires. Builderman looked at Shedletsky with an unexplainable look in his eyes, to which Shedletsky shrugged in reply.
Turning his attention towards the other survivors, Shedletsky beckoned them to come over. “Everyone, come and take a look at this generator!”
That must mean it’s safe enough . Elliot thought as he approached the generator — still wary — along with Two Time, Chance, and Noob. If nothing happens, nothing happens, and if something festers up the sentinels will take care of it.
He breathed in, cutting his losses, and examined the generator…
And it was the most pathetic generator he’d ever seen.
“What is this?” he asked Shedletsky, trying to hold in his laughter. He glanced towards Chance and Noob, who seemed to have similar reactions of their own (although Two Time seemed rather unamused).
“Baby generator.”
“Well let's jus’ get this over with now,” said Builderman, connecting the three wires, and with a click! The generator was completed. “And done.”
The sound of a stray bolt of thunder, and the grey checkered wall behind the generator collapsed into a heap of nothing. 007n7, Taph, and Dusekkar — who were previously disconnected from what was happening — attention snapped towards the sound.
Revealing another generator.
Some perked their eyebrows, while others simply shrugged.
“Alright, we know the drill!” Builderman said, trying to keep the mood light. “We’re in some kinda’ generator mini game . We’ve fixed loadsa generators, ain’t that right Noob?”
“Y-yeah!”
“This is loads better than what we usually go through, don’tcha think?” Chance said, nudging Noob. “It’s like we’re on vacation!”
“Belief in our troubles being vanquished, will soon leave our minds in anguish,” Dusukkar hummed.
“Hey now, don’t ruin this for me.”
Elliot sighed. Despite the strangeness of the scenario, nothing bad has happened yet and he’d like to keep it that way. This whole shebang seemed harmless enough, but knowing what they usually do when the timer strikes zero… Dusekkar wasn’t wrong for pointing out the fact that they’re still in unknown territory, and anything could happen. “Let's just fix these generators.”
As he approached the second generator along with the others, the first thing he noticed was that the number of wires seemed to be almost doubled (albeit one less wire, as it only had five). We’re stuck on an isolated baseplate, with the only thing being a single, pathetically easy generator. Completion of the generator reveals another generator. Now, why would they double the wires?
All the survivors stopped to look at each other, the gears in their mind whirring.
“Is everyone thinkin’ what I’m thinkin’ right about now?” Chance asked, dazed.
007n7 nodded. “I’m sure we’re all thinking the same thing.”
“🖥📈” (Generators are going to become increasingly difficult).
The room (or baseplate I suppose) erupted into a fit of murmurs, which died out as quickly as they came.
“I believe this situation is not for me,” Two Time mused. “My strength isn’t evident in the completion of generators.” They walked off into a corner, sitting cross legged.
Builderman sighed. “Only three people can do a generator at a time anyway. Shedletsky and I are already workin’ on em’, we’ll jus’ need another to step in as number three.”
Heads turned to face Noob and 007n7, the certified Generator Junkies of the group. Who couldn’t necessarily help the team when they were being chased by the killers. So instead they worked in the background, whittling down the remaining time.
“Why not get both of them to work?” asked Two Time. “It’d be much faster than just one.”
Builderman breathed in loudly through his nose. “No one actually wants to fix the generators.”
007n7 slightly raised his hand.
“And if ya’ say ya’ do… yer’ a liar.”
His hand shot back down.
“I-it’s fine, I-I’ll do it!” Noob said, taking confident steps towards Generator Two.
Elliot watched with awe as the three finished the generator in record time (he guessed that all the time Noob spent with generators really racked up how fast they could complete them), with a satisfying click! The barrier that barricaded their freedom came crumbling down.
Revealing another generator.
“Alright! Let's see number three!” Shedletsky said, gesturing for the rest of the group to come on over.
The third generator was the same as the second, sure the wires were multiplied, but it wasn’t all that bad.
Then there was the fourth, which was easy too.
Then the fifth, where people started to question why they were here in the first place. But it was completed with no issue.
The sixth one was practically the same as the fifth one. Noob said they couldn’t even see a difference. Or maybe they had finally succumbed to Generator Insanity?
After a long three hours, Builderman, Shedletsky, and Noob were finally connecting the final wires of Generator Seven. Elliot knew that the generators were going to get more difficult, but the difficulty spike from Generator Six to Generator Seven was possibly the most unfair he’s ever seen. It was as though Generator Six had been doubled, then doubled again, and again, and again.
Noob held their breath. “And… Done!”
“Vacation’s over pal,” Chance said, walking up to the three. “I’m all for travelling to different places, but at some point you gotta take the flight back!”
“W-well! The wall hasn’t come down yet, so maybe t-this really was the final generator?”
Just as Noob had finished their sentence, Elliot watched in awe (and anguish) as Generator Seven’s wall went back to its original home (which he was pretty sure was hell), to reveal another generator.
Elliot stood there in complete shock, not even bothering to take in any of his surroundings. Another generator? Why? What kind of terrible atrocity had he committed to be condemned to this torment?
Shedletsky seemed to notice the quickly depleting mood. “The difficulty spike was probably a one time thing. Sure, Generator Seven was pretty bad, but we completed it, and doing it again will probably be easier.”
“That’s not how that works.”
Shedletsky, eager to prove his point. Strutted confidently up to Generator Eight. “C’mon it can’t be that-” Elliot watched in horror as his smile evaporated immediately. “Bad. This is bad.”
Elliot and the others walked over cautiously, all peering over Shedletsky to get a good look at the generator. And just as Shedletsky had said… It was bad.
“It’s like I’m looking at a mosaic painting,” 007n7 said.
“😬🏖️❓(Who said we were on vacation?)”
“My mind is in anguish.”
“Well let's jus’ get to fixin’ this generator. How hard can it really be?”
“No, you see it’s because you put the wire here, so now you can’t…”
After the sixth hour… No, seventh hour? Eighth? Ninth? Tenth? How long has Elliot and the others been here? Really? For all he knew, hundreds of years could have gone by. Now that he’s thinking about it, what the hell is going on in Robloxia while they're doing all this?!
“The Spawn.”
Chance rolled over from his previously corpse-like position to stare at Two Time. “You’ve been sayin’ that for the past hour. The Spawn what? The Spawn out to buy my groceries?”
If there's one thing Elliot knew, it’s that all these generators have really taken a toll on everyone. Despite the fact that the most affected ones were not even fixing the generator. Noob, Builderman, Shedletsky, and 007n7 (who decided to help them out of the goodness of his heart) appeared completely fine.
“Hey, Dusekkar, wanna hear a joke?” Chance asked.
“ Yuh, huh”
“Is that a yes?”
“Yuh huh
I was out late at night, central of the fight
Killers on my tail and they pull out their sick knife
Got shanked, face in the sandbank
Where our sentinels at? When I’ve always had their backs?”
“DON’T RAP AT ME!” Chance yelled.
“🎃🤪🎶⁉️” (He’s gone a bit crazy. Also didn’t know he could rap)
“The Spawn shows gratitude to all who rap, don’t listen to him, Divine Pumpkin.” Two Time said plainly, as though they’d recited the exact words before.
“No, don’t enable his behavior.”
“I never knew Dusekkar could rap,” Shedletsky said, still working on the generator. “We’re learning so much about each other.”
“I want to learn less.”
“Rap is literally the best music genre.”
Shedletsky willfully ignored the replies from the sources. “Well this generator is almost done so-”
Suddenly, all who were previously corpse-like jumped up and ran to Generator Eight, maniacal smiles plastered on their faces. Elliot was smiling too, today was a good day.
“THE SPAWN IS GOOD!” Chance yelled. “RAPPING IS GOOD! I LOVE RAPPING!”
And Generator Eight was finally complete, the walls came crashing down to reveal two giant golden statues — a symbol of their triumph — Elliot stood in awe at the statues, they were like golden rays of sunlight — not like he remembered what sunlight looked like anyway — now all he could picture was generator wires.
“That took a lot longer than I thought it would!” 007n7 said. “Right, Noob?”
“Y-yeah… I never want to do that ever again.”
“OH SWEET GOLD, SWEET BLUE SKY IN FRONT OF ME!”
“Hey, Spectre guy, can we keep the statues?”
Elliot watched as all the chatter in the room stopped, the survivors stopped to look at Shedletsky, then looked straight up into the sky.
“C-can we? We went through all the generators, this seems like a fair trade.”
…
No.
“OH COME ON!” Everyone screamed in unison.
And before Elliot could verify the curses being thrown and throw in his own, he along with everyone else drifted into darkness.
“So, are we going to talk about what happened?” 007n7 asked, sitting at one of the tables along with the other survivors. “This seems like something we should be discussing.”
“I do not wish to discuss anything that happened during… Yesterday…” Two Time replied.
“Yeah sorry man, I don’t think anyone here wants to talk about… Yesterday…” Chance added. “But we did end up getting the statues,” he gestured to a corner, which evidently displayed their prize.
“How a-are you guys s-saying Yesterday like that?” Noob asked, confused — they quickly pivoted. “N-never mind, I figured i-it out…”
“Fer’ what it’s worth, it was as though we were stuck inside some kinda’ Generator Hell.”
“Say that again.”
