Chapter 1: Why are there so many?
Chapter Text
It began like any other day. Phantom was watching his Mom beat the shit out of some biker ghost. It was the same one that looked sad when he first noticed Phantom hiding from him. He didn't know exactly why this biker that looked so much like the scary Creatures wanted to hang out with something like him.
So it was a rader normal occurrence for one of his Mom's or Dad's to beat him up whenever he appeared. That's when he noticed one of the green swirly things. That all of his parents tried to keep him from entering and his Mom was currently to busy to look after Phantom. Meaning he could just take a little looked at what made it so forbidden.
His mind made up. He went to it and hesitantly touched it. It felt funny and strangely familiar. A familiarity that made a shudder run though Phantom tiny body and a strange longing took a hold of him. Making him enter the green swirly thing completely.
On the other side he looked wide eyed around himself. Why was everything suddenly gray? The sky, the building's surrounding him were all completely gray. Phantom looked behind him and there was no swrily green thing anymore.
The noises around him were strange to. From some running engines to loud bomb? Phantom wasn't sure. Then there was screaming and he ran to check out what was happening.
Phantom stared at them to stunned to move. There was a guy attacking a girl. He didn't feel one of his Mom's or Dad's nearby so didn't know what to do. Did the scary creatures always attack each other? He flinched when they suddenly addressed him.
"Hey kiddo, what do you think you staring at?" The guy stated still have a tight grip on her arm.
He didn't say anything and just bolted. Only to run into more of the same scary creatures. Everywhere he would turn around and there was another one of them. Some tried to approach him.
"Sweetheart, what are you doing here all alone?"
Other's where annoyed and pushed him.
"Watch where you going brat"
His name wasn't brat. He was Phantom! But looking back at the creature made a shiver run down his spine. Where was his Mom's and Dad's? Or the Green? He kept running from them. They couldn't catch him if he was fast enough.
But there were just so many of them. So so many. What if they would grab him and hurt him. This wasn't training or or a simple game. What if they made him even smaller???? Phantom couldn't risk that.
Suddenly he stumbled to a halt landing square on his face. There he felt it that familiar feeling. It wasn't quite as big as his mom's and Dad's, but it was there. So Phantom chased after it in hopes of finding his home, his family and to escape this nightmare of a place.
"Huh!?" Someone big sound surprised when Phantom clung to there leg all of a sudden.
No this was wrong, why did he have legs????
"Eh hey there Kiddo. I think you mistaken me for someone else" They sound a bit stunned, but explained it calmly. There voice sounded funny.
"W-Why do have legs?" Phantom questioned with a slight tramble in his voice.
"Eh boss?" Someone else asked bewildered.
"One moment" the familiar feeling person replied. Before crouching down to Phantom's level. "Kiddo do you know who I am?"
Phantom shock his head furiously. Now clinging on his arm instead of his legs. The red headed ghost guy would protect him from the creature. He was sure of it.
He hummed in acknowledgement. "Well I am Red Hood, a crime Lord and it's not good for little kids like you to hang around me"
"But Creature's are everywhere! How are you so strong???" Phantom questioned worriedly.
"Could you describe these creatures to me?" Red Hood requested.
"Most of them are big and they have two hands and two legs, like that one" Phantom pointed at the random other guy in the wearhouse.
Red Hood followed his direction and stared at one of his own men. He in turn looked at them surprised. Which caused Phantom to immediately look away and cling more to Red Hood.
"Maybe he is under some kind of drug influence?" Said guy commented.
"Okay, Kiddo could you give me your name?" Red Hood requested.
"I am Phantom, but don't tell them. They will hurt me" Phantom whispered.
Red Hood took a deep breath to calm his nerves down. "Phantom then, is it okay if I check your eyes?"
"No, Dad said I shouldn't take them out..." Phantom replied.
"No, that's not what I meant. Is it okay if light up your eyes with this flashlight" Red Hood clarified.
Phantom blinked at the flashlight in surprise. He can't remember seeing it before, but somehow knew what it did. It surprised him so much that he kind of unknowingly reached out for it. Red Hood easily gave it to him.
When he pressed the on button on the side of it he was still so in awe, as the light streamed out of it. He was so stunned that he momentarily forgotten about all the Creature's. Phantom tried to grab it off the floor, but it got smaller as he crouched down.
Which made him panic. He didn't want the light to die. They were to young to manifest a prober ghost. So he tried to grab it fast. Only to be stopped by Red Hood. Who chuckled at his antics.
"You can't pick up the light sorry" Red Hood explained.
"Why not?" Phantom asked him honestly, He pouted.
"Well you can't just pick it up without asking first" The other guy chimes in. Enjoying this random toddler's presents as much as he could.
"Huh, would you let me picked you up?" Phantom questioned the light seriously.
"He is just messing with you Phantom..." Red Hood gave a deadpanned look at the other guy.
But to the surprise of both of them the light bends itself to be in Phantom's hand. Making him squeak in delight.
"Look! Look! Red Hood! The flash light likes me!" He exclaimed cheerfully.
"What the-?" The guy looked now wide eyed at Phantom. Who was still to happy to care.
"Kiddo, Phantom... You shouldn't show that to random people. Or something really bad might happen" Red Hood explained worriedly.
Phantom blinked at him completely confused. "Is it a secret that Flash light likes me?"
"No, I mean your ability" Red Hood tried to explain.
"What ability?" Phantom asked. His mom's and Dad's said he had many of them.
"You bended light" Red Hood replied gesturing to Phantom's hand.
"Hiding abilities is bad though..." Phantom countered. "Mom said in a fight I should use everything a have to defend myself"
Red Hood contemplated for a moment. "Where are you from Phantom?"
"At home" Phantom easily replied.
"And where exactly is your home?" Red Hood questioned.
"In the green, it's a huge castle!" Phantom beamed.
Red Hood stiffened at that for some reason. "The green you say..."
"Yes! It's so nice to float around it, Normally one of my mom's or Dad's always comes with me though...." Danny trails of suddenly very ashamed of his actions. He should have never touched the swirly green.
Chapter 2: Holding the light hostage
Chapter Text
Jason was surprised to say the least. When a Tiny Toddler suddenly clung to his leg. Not only because it scared the shit out of him. How the fuck did he not hear the little guy coming? But also because the pit reacted to him.
It felt like it was vibrating out of its chest with how happy it was. Which what the fuck!? Since when can the pit be happy. That never happened before... Add to that the child apparently could bend light and said his home was in the green. Which made him immediately think of the Lazarus pits.
How the hell could someone live in a Lazarus pit!? Also who the fuck would name there kid Phantom? Jason thought.
He was technically in the middle of checking on the status of his business, when the little kid showed up and Henry was delighted by the little intruder. Even if the Toddler didn't dare come close to him. When the little guy wasn't distracted by the flash light or other things. He seems to cling to Jason again and hide from Henry.
As if a crime Lord was the safer option... He was truly lucky that Jason didn't hate children. Otherwise if he was some random other crime Lord Phantom wouldn't be safe at all. Jason carefully took the flashlight back, but the light wouldn't leave Phantom's hand.
"Phantom could you let go of the light for me?" Jason requested softly. it came out a bit ruf, due to his voice changer. But Phantom didn't seem to mind.
"Okay" Phantom agreed and with that the flashlight light returned to it's usually state.
"Now just to be sure is it okay if I light put your eyes with it?" Jason once more inquired.
"Mhm, the flash light likes me" Phantom explained cheerfully.
Strangely enough Phantom's pupils reacted normally. So Phantom couldn't be under some drugs influence. Not even drugs for meta's. Which Phantom clearly is.
"The kiddo is fine, no drugs in his system" Red Hood stated.
"What are drugs?" Phantom questioned curiously.
"Something that makes you very sick if you eat it" Red Hood explained.
"I don't wanna be sick again..." Phantom stated looking hopefully into the eyes of Jason's helmet.
"Then the big bad Red Hood will make sure of that" Henry smirks.
Phantom suddenly flinched as soon as he heard his words and immediately hid behind Red Hood. That was a clear sign that Phantom has been abused before and it made Red Hood angry. Even though the pits stayed completely calm.
"Phantom Henry is fine, he won't do anything to you" Red Hood tried to reassure.
"I give my word, that I am harmless" Henry stated confidently.
But Phantom started to cling harder to Jason. He in turn ruffled the toddlers hair. Which made him look up again and Jason had to admit those hopeful blue little eyes staring at him where cute. It was rare that a person this young would just come up to him, especially with hopeful eyes like these.
Normally he was feared and respected, but that didn't make the street kids completely trust him. They would normally just go to the working girls, if something is the matter. Then the working girls would inform him and he would take care of the matter.
Jason felt the pit strangely urge him to pick the child up and just hold him in his arms. Which he hesitantly did.
Henry cued at the scene. "You look so menacingly cute with a child, Boss"
"Shut it Henry" Jason hissed in annoyance, but Phantom seems completely content to be held by a stranger. Which worried him even more.
"Red Hood?" Phantom questioned sounding a bit tired.
"Hm?" Jason responded.
"Can you bring me home? I am tired" Phantom requested.
Jason very much wanted to disagree. He was a crime Lord for God's sake. That's not a place a kid as young as Phantom should be at. He didn't even have time to look after a kid and he couldn't just give him to B otherwise he would just add him to his collection of child soldiers.
The pit urged him to accept though and he really doesn't want Phantom to run around on his own. Since he seems so scared of anyone else.
"Yeah..." Jason looked back at Henry. Who was having a big grin plastered on his face. "Do not say a word to anyone" Jason warned.
"Got it Boss" he dutifully replied.
Phantom has seemingly fallen asleep in Jason's arms. As Jason finished his meeting with Henry. It was good that this week no one tried to get on his nerves for once. The only problem he had was the toddler that seems to be to clingy for his own good.
Since even when Jason got to one of his safe houses, he wouldn't let go of him. And his grip is strong as hell. Stronger than any toddler's grip should be.
"Phantom?" Jason question's softly, while sitting down at his couch.
"Hm?" Phantom acknowledged sleepily.
"We are at home... Could you let go of me?" Jason inquired.
"Where is Mom?" Phantom questioned rubbing his eyes. When Jason took a little to long to answer He continued. "Mr Red Hood?"
"Eh I am sure she is looking for you" Jason tried to reassure.
Phantom let out a whining noise. " 'm sorry... should have listened"
"How exactly did you get separated from your parents?" Jason asked.
"The bad swirly green thing" Phantom stated. Before starting taking in his new surroundings. "This isn't home"
"Well it's my home" Jason countered.
Phantom looked at him wide eyed, before he started beaming. "This is your haunt!?"
"Ehh I guess so?" Jason answered confused.
The toddler jumped of off Jason and stumbled of Jason's couch almost falling face first onto the ground. Before he stopped mid fall and floated to the ground. Jason stared at him wide eyed as Phantom ran off presumingly to explore the apartment.
Jason took of his helmet to ran a hand through his hair. While also coming to the fact that Phantom can apparently fly. Light bending and flying didn't fit together though, due meta's with multiple abilities exist? Maybe Phantom was an alien child? If that is the case what the fuck was he supposed to do?
"Red Hood! There are creatures outside!" Phantom called out sounding very panicked, while running back in hallway.
When the toddler spotted Jason he stumbled over his own feet. Before getting back up, snatching Jason's helmet and dashing into the bedroom.
"Hey! That's my helmet!" Jason called out indignantly and made his way to the bedroom.
"Don't worry Red Hood I will keep you safe" He heard Phantom say though the door.
As Jason slowly opened the door he found Phantom hugging his helmet protectively. That wasn't the thing that made him freeze up in place though. Because Phantom's eyes were glowing Lazarus green as he stared at Jason.
"Hey, buddy Phantom... Why don't we calm down here for a moment. If you want you can even have the flashlight back" Jason offered.
Phantom gasped. "Red Hood what do I do? He has the a hostage!" He questioned the helmet.
The helmet naturally didn't answer.
"Phantom... I am Red Hood" Jason stated.
That made Phantom look wide eyed between Jason and the helmet. Before he bursted into tears and started to cry. As Jason tried to come close Phantom back away. Letting the helmet fall in favor of rolling himself up in the corner of the room and hiding behind a ice wall, that manifested around him.
"Phantom, whatever I did I am sorry" Jason tried again, but it didn't help.
He picked up his helmet and went back to the living room. Contemplating what he did wrong, but nothing came to mind. Jason looked at his helmet and then it clicked. Phantom was scared of his face. Which was definitely a first.
Normally it was the other way around. People feared the helmet that meant Red Hood was here. The crime Lord not afraid to shoot if you did something wrong. Not Jason. Some random other guy who lives in crime Ally and helps out from time to time.
But Phantom was scared of Jason not Red Hood...
Chapter 3: Are you a vampire?
Chapter Text
Phantom just wanted home! Instant they got caught and the creature ended Red Hood to pretend to be him... Phantom should have never fallen asleep. Then this wouldn't have happened. He doesn't want to be even smaller.
He could have protected Red Hood! But those things are just so scary. They made everything he learned about fighting useless. How can He be as strong as Mom said if he never won against those creatures?
So Phantom cried in hopes his parents would hear and come save him again, but crying took so much energy out of him that he ended up falling asleep. Where were his parents?
Phantom got woken up by the growling of his stomach. He was hungry. So he dissolved the ice Walls surrounding him and sneaked around to not alert the creature that captured him. Only to see Red Hood. He seems to be strangely fine.
"Ah, Hey kiddo" Red Hood greeted when he spotted Phantom.
"Where did the creature go?" Phantom wobble over towards him.
"Eh... they left" Red Hood replied.
Phantom hugged him. "I am sorry... I won't ever let them hurt you again!"
Red Hood chuckled awkwardly. "Don't worry bud, they didn't hurt me "
"But they took your head! That hurts!" Phantom exclaimed worriedly, as he was picked up into Red Hoods lap.
Red Hood stayed silent for a moment contemplating how to make Phantom's fear of people lesson. When Phantom stomach growls again.
"Are you hungry?" Red Hood questioned.
"Yeah, but None of my parents are here..." Phantom answered sadly.
"What do you eat normally?" Red Hood inquired curiously.
"Ecto water" Phantom stated looking at Red Hoods eyes.
"Can you describe to me what that looks like?"
"It's green and and liquidy. I think it glows outside of the big green. But the outside is scary..." Phantom confessed.
"Because of the creatures right?" Red Hood asked worriedly.
Phantom nodded.
"Can you eat regular food?" Red Hood inquired.
"Hmmm" Phantom shrugged.
"Okay, how about I make you some soup?" Red Hood offered.
Phantom nodded and let himself be picked up again. Since Red Hood took him to the kitchen.
"And this ecto water didn't have anything solid in it right?" Red Hood questioned.
Which made Phantom gasp. "I don't eat little ghosties!" He exclaimed indignantly.
"So solid Ecto water is a ghost?"
"No that's sluggish ghost. A ghost ghost is bigger" Phantom explained.
"Got it, well I have a tomato soup that you could have" Red Hood offered after opening one of the wall cabinets.
"Okay"
"Good... I would need to put you down to warm it up" Red Hood observed.
"Why does soup need to be warm?" Phantom questioned curiously.
"Ah, how warm did this ecto water feel?"
"Hmmmmm it's always as warm as my shape"
"And how warm is your shape?"
"Dad would know, he is always more paranoid about my shape"
"Mhm and we can't contact your dad since he doesn't have a phone number" Red Hood sounded frustrated.
"I know how to make a phone!" Phantom suddenly called out.
"Cool buddy, but would it be able to contact your parents?" Red Hood questioned hopefully.
"Only Technus has a phone"
"Okay can this Technus inform your parents about where you are?"
"Mhm"
"Great, I still need to make you that soup though before you can make that" Red Hood declared while putting him on the ground.
Phantom sadly was to small to see what Red Hood would be doing, especially from down here. So he got the brilliant idea to just fly up.
Now he could see Red Hood emptying a can of tomato soup into a pot on the stove.
"Are you a vampire?" Phantom suddenly asked.
"No? Why would you think that?" Red Hood asked bewildered.
"Well you are warm and that looks like live blood" Phantom explained cheerfully.
"Why would I be cold?" Red Hood widened his eyes as he finally realized Phantom wasn't on the ground.
"Dead people are normally cold" He answered.
Causing Red Hood to stiffened up in place. "Why would you think I am dead?"
"You feel like it" Phantom stated simply.
"Is that why you kept clinging to me" Red Hood realized.
"Well there were so many creatures..." He trailed off. Phantom really didn't know what else to do. He couldn't fight of so many...
"Okay, this is fine. How about you tell me what exactly you are" Red Hood questioned with a bit of his panic leaking into his voice.
"My parents call me a Halfa! Don't know what that means though" Phantom explains.
"I think this should be warm enough" Red Hood stated to definitely not calm his panic down. As he turned of the stove and poured it into a mug.
Red Hood placed the mug on the coffee table in the living room and gave Phantom a tea spoon. He put the empty spoon in his mouth.
"No, don't eat the spoon. Eat with the spoon" Red Hood took the now flat ended spoon out of Phantom's hand and stared at it dumbfounded.
"It's not for the phone????" Phantom questioned bewildered.
Red Hood put his head in his hand. "No it was meant for eating, I will get you a new one..."
Chapter Text
"WOW that doesn't taste like blood at all" Phantom marveled.
"Well that's because it's tomato soup and not blood" Jason explained, while putting another spoon full of the soup in Phantom's mouth.
Jason now knows Phantom is definitely not human. Especially with how he felt Jason was dead and it was still so fucking strange for the pit to not just be angry. But still how fucked up of a childhood did Phantom have to be scared of humans this much? It just didn't sit right with him.
"If you feel uncomfortable while eating this tell me, okay?" Jason requested softly.
"It's sooo sweet" Phantom suddenly shivered.
"Is that good?" Jason questioned worriedly.
"It's sweeter than fudge!" Phantom grabbed Jason's hand who was holding another spoon full of the soup and put it in his mouth.
"Fudge?" Jason question's amused.
"It's brown, solid and melts" Phantom explained cheerfully.
"Like chocolate?" Jason asked. How the heck did he know about chocolate of all things?
"I think so and it never attacks!" Phantom suddenly grabbed the whole mug and tried to drink it all at once.
It only half succeeded. Since there was now tomato soup all over the toddlers T-shirt and around his mouth. Phantom whined when Jason took the mug for him so that the rest of the soup wouldn't also be spilled. Jason couldn't help but chuckle when he gave him a pouting look.
"You need to eat slowly otherwise you would just spill all of it" Jason smirked under his helmet, while pointing to Phantom's shirt.
Phantom looked at it before taking the parts with tomato soup in his mouth. Lifting his shirt in the process only to reveal a autopsy scar, but it wasn't as cleanly done as you would normally see on a corpse. As if he was awake while it happened...
Jason wanted to puke. Phantom was a fucking Toddler! How the fuck... Jason gritted his teeth. He was a experiment. It would explain all the oddities about him, but who where the kids parents then? To allow such things to happen to there own child.
It seems like Phantom noticed his wide eyed staring even though his helmet. Because he also looked at his scar.
"Do you like my scar? It's one of my permanent ones! Mom said it just shows how strong I am" Phantom Explained cheerfully.
"Yeah... It's pretty cool. I got a similar one" Jason smiled uncomfortably.
Phantom beamed "Than we can be scar buddy's!"
Jason wasn't sure anymore if it was such a good idea to give Phantom back to his parents and his pit seems to wholeheartedly agree. It's as if the little time he had spent with Phantom had make the pit completely and utterly obsessed with him. Which he himself has no clue how to feel about. It was better than the constant anger at least.
Phantom completely unaware of Jason's inner turmoil happy continued to let himself be feed by Jason.
"How are your parents like?" Jason question's.
"I have many mom's and dad's! There's Mom Dorathea, Mom Pandora, Dad Frostbite, Dad Vortex, Dad Nocturne and Father Undergrowth" Phantom counted before getting to eat another spoon full of soup.
"They are all strong! And Keep the scary creatures away. Even the sad one's!"
"The sad one's?" Jason inquired curiously.
"Yeah at home there's this biker guy, who always tries to capture me. But My mom's and dad's always beat him up for it. There were others as well, but the biker is the most per-sis-tent" Phantom explained.
"Do you know that not all of those Creatures are bad ones?" Jason asked hopefully.
Phantom paused and looked at Jason bewildered. Before he could eat another spoon full of soup.
"You know some of them maybe just want to help you" Jason tried to convince him.
Which caused Phantom to whimper.
"Hey hey, I didn't mean it like that..." Jason put the spoon away when Phantom started to cry and carefully hugged him to his chest.
" 'm a monster" Phantom sniffles out, clinging tightly to Jason.
Jason bit his lip, while rubbing Phantom's back. "No you aren't. You are Phantom the greatest toddler I ever meet"
"I never wanted to be small..." Phantom confessed meekly. Which just confused Jason even more.
"You will probably grow up to be big and strong" Jason reassured.
They stayed like this for awhile. Phantom just snuggling deeply into his hug and Jason accepting it. The rest of the tomato soup was probably already cold when Phantom looked up at him again.
"Why are you not in the green?" Phantom questioned curiously.
"Because I am still alive..." Jason Explained uncomfortably.
Phantom's eyes widened. "Are you a Halfa????"
"I don't know" Jason admitted.
"Can you do this?" Phantom questioned before a bright light enveloped him and he felt significantly colder in his arms.
Now Phantom's hair were completely White and he looked at the same glowing green eyes he had seen before. Though now they held no anger or desperation. His clothes also changed looking like a black and white rubber jumpsuit.
"No I can't" Jason answered a bit awe struck by how Phantom's whole body seem to glow.
"Hmmm" Phantom hummed in thought. "Dad would know..."
"It's okay... I don't need to know" Jason reassured the glowing boy.
Phantom sucked in a breath as if he remembered something. "Is the flashlight okay???? The creature had it hostage! We need to rescue it!"
The Toddler jumped out of his lap into the air as his legs began to merge. While he was looking around for the flashlight frantically.
"Hey hey, I have it here" Jason held it out. Before Phantom floated of wherever he thought the flashlight was.
Phantom grabbed it and turned it on, looking directly into it's light unblinkingly. Before beaming and holding it out.
"It's still alive!" Phantom declared.
It made Jason chuckle in amusement.
Notes:
12.9.15: fixed the crying bit.
Chapter 5: Confusing Message
Chapter Text
While Phantom was distracted, talking to the flashlight and direction it's light to different areas of the tiny living room. Jason open his laptop and decided to look into who exactly Phantom's parents were.
Dorathea was really the only one of the names mentioned that could be someone from Gotham. Pandora is a demi god, Frostbite is a condition and Vortex is just a fucking vortex. But you probably get what Jason means. None of these names are registered as family names either. So they could only be nicknames or aliases.
Which made it even harder to track them down. His current theory was that they were a group of unknown Villains who stole Phantom from the lab he was created in. So he needed to make sure they weren't bad news. Before they even had a chance of getting Phantom back.
Jason was surprised when the flashlight light suddenly hit his helmet directly at the eyes. He instinctively put a hand in front of him.
"When are we going home?" Phantom questioned impatiently.
"You shouldn't glow the flashlight in someone's face without permission" Jason scolded.
"Oh! Flashlight stop glowing at Red Hood!" Phantom told the flashlight still in his hand and once more the light listened.
"You want home to your parents huh?" Jason inquired.
Phantom nodded.
"Well to be honest with you I don't know where your home exactly is or how to get there" Jason confessed.
Phantom leg's reformed as he landed on the coffee table. He looked wide eyed at Jason. "You don't know!?"
"If you can tell me more about where you came from and Who exactly your parents are. I can find at least a lead to get you home" Jason explained.
"Well it's green and big and it has purple doors and islands and rocks and stuff. My parents are like I think the guardians of that place, but that isn't to much work since they still have time for me!" Phantom Explained cheerfully.
Jason sighed. How the hell should he know where that is? It could just be the kiddos imagination for all he knew and that was the problem wasn't it? Phantom was to young to complete understand his surroundings. Especially if he grew up in a hostile environment.
It could just be a place his tiny brain came up with as a way to cope with all the trauma he has been though. That made Jason think. What if his parents were also imaginary? Phantom was an experiment with superpowers. What if he freaked out when it got to much for him and just killed the scientists on accident?
They could still try the phone approach, before Jason would look into all current labs in Gotham to see if an incident like that has happened.
"So how about we try to get in contact with them though a phone?" Jason decided, standing up and getting a bunner Phone from the draw in a side cabinet.
He gave it to Phantom in exchange for the still lid Flashlight. Phantom looked at it curiously and turned it around in his hand for further inspection. Jason watch him expectedly. When Phantom suddenly put his whole hand into the Phone.
"Hmmm it's missing something" Phantom commented absentmindedly.
"What exactly is it missing?" Jason inquired.
Phantom then cracked the case open to see inside, while murmuring a quiet "sorry".
"The ecto trans- transmit-ter is missing" Phantom explained frowning.
"What do you need to make one?" Jason asked.
Jason followed Phantom as he floated to the kitchen and looked around the cabinets. His eyes widened when Phantom picked up a knife of all things. Before pausing since it had a green sticky note on it. Which gave Jason the chance to take the knife out of the toddler's hand.
After taking the strange note of the knife he put it back where it belonged. Phantom's eyes strangely stayed glued to the sticky note.
"Why would I put a sticky note on my knife?" Jason asked himself bewildered.
"What does it say?" Phantom questioned hesitantly.
Jason furrowed his eyebrows before looking down at it. "It's your being Danny. So be your own for once and be assured we will wait. By CW"
Which caused Phantom to cry again. Though it was much more quietly than before. Meanwhile Jason tried desperately to remember when he had written this. Or just who the fuck CW was. Jason noticed Phantom's distress when the open burner Phone fell to the ground.
"Phantom?" Jason question's softly.
As soon as he touch the floating toddlers shoulder Phantom drops onto him abruptly and another light washes over him. Revealing the same toddler that he first meet.
"What's wrong Phantom?" Jason inquired and walked over to the living room couch with Phantom in hand.
"Who is Danny? Why do I know Danny?" Phantom questioned meekly. Before gasping so hard that he started to cough.
"Hey hey easy there, It's probably just one of my brothers playing a prank on me. Danny was a old buddy of mine. So you don't need to worry about that" Jason tried to reassure Phantom, sitting on the couch.
"But who is Danny?" Phantom questioned worriedly.
"Ah well he was one of the street kids I grew up with. Before he joined a gang and got killed" Jason explained carefully.
"No, that can't be Danny. Why would they leave me I'm not Danny am I?" Phantom looked hopefully at Jason. Who had no clue what was going on.
"What makes you think they left you?" Jason question's confused.
"The note it's me, but it can't be right? I am not Danny. Danny was stupid. Danny... Who is he?" Phantom seems to confuse himself.
"Phantom you aren't the note, you are Phantom" Jason stated.
"YES! That's me! But Danny is the reason why I can't go home" Phantom explains.
"And why is that?" Jason inquired curiously.
"Well Clockwork said so" Phantom pointed at the kitchen where Jason had left the sticky note.
"Clockwork huh? Who is that?" It would fit with the initials, Jason thought.
"He is time! You can't defy Time and he knows" Phantom explained while rubbing the tears out of his eyes.
"Let's say that's true and we can't get you home what would you do?" Jason asked him softly.
Phantom sniffles a bit and snuggles into Jason's chest. "I will protect you from the creatures!" He declared.
Chapter Text
"We could still try calling them, they are probably worried sick" Red Hood offered.
Phantom shook his head. "Clockwork won't let them come"
"Do you know why?" Red Hood inquired curiously.
"Danny! Danny is at fault!" Phantom grumbled while pouting in Red Hoods lap.
He was so comfortable warm. It was kind of strange that Red Hood was warm. Normal hugs and cuddles are cold, but cold is comfortable to. Just burning is not friendly. Phantom hates when he was burned. Burning hurts. So it's bad.
"Hmmm" Red Hood hummed in thought. Which sounded funny with his scratchy voice.
Phantom snuggled father into Red Hood. While he typed something in that strange computer plate thingy. At least he thought it was some kind of computer. Because it had those typy things, but everything was so strangely flat. Just like the phone Red Hood had giving him.
Lucky one of the robots taught him how to read technology. So he had figured it out pretty easily. As Phantom looked around again he smiled when he spotted the flashlight safely laying on the coffee table. Yes, he will keep them safe.
A Problem came very fast Phantom was getting tired again in this comfortable warmth. He tried all he could to stay awake without moving his position. Which was so much harder than any battle he fought before.
Red Hood chuckles when he noticed Phantom's sleepiness. "I think you need a nap"
"No! The creature got you last time I fell asleep. I won't let it happen again" Phantom stated determinedly.
"Actually that happened afterwards... When you went exploring my apartment" Red Hood correct.
"Huh????" Phantom sounded bewildered.
"Don't worry I am big and strong. Just like you said. I can handle any evil creatures that might come for us" Red Hood promised.
"Why the evil ones?" Phantom questions with closed eyes, while leaning his head against Jason's chest.
"Well aren't they the ones that scare you?" Red Hood asked confused.
"No that's the scary ones..." Phantom trailed off as he fell asleep again.
It was extremely hard for Jason to get Phantom of off him. Since the little toddler was so god damn clingy even in his sleep. He had looked up who Clockwork was, but found only results of the Clock King from Star City and clock workshops. Next he checked all the Labs in Gotham, even the private ones. They didn't make any ruckus though.
Maybe he should ask Timbit to look into it. Since he couldn't really bring Phantom with him to check them out in person. When Jason finally pride Phantom of off his chest, he was clinging to his arms.
"Oh come on, a bed is definitely more comfortable than sleeping on thick mussels" Jason whined to the still asleep Phantom.
"Warm" was he only thing he responded with.
"Okay little guy I can give you a warm blanket in exchange that you stop clinging to me" Jason offered, while trying to keep the toddler of off his lap. So Phantom wouldn't clingy to his chest again.
Which helps only a little before Phantom phased though Jason's arm to snuggle back into his lap. Jason blinked surprised at his arm. What the fuck!? It felt tingly and made the pits extremely excited. Density shifting huh? How many abilities did Phantom have?
He couldn't patrol like this. What was he supposed to do? Never before has a toddler clung to him like this. God damnit he is not meant to be a parent. Jason was meant to just give Phantom back to his parents and be done with babysitting. Not adopt a meta child.
Jason sighed. "Fine you win" he told the still sleeping toddler.
Before warping an arm around Phantom and standing up.
He took Pride and prejudice out of his bookshelf before sitting back down and starting to read it. Jason also took his helmet off and placed it nearby. So if he felt Phantom stir he could put it back on, before the little guy had another panic attack.
If he was really going to keep Phantom Jason would need to eat and drink something when Phantom was asleep, which shouldn't be that hard. Especially if he stays this clingy. It was still so surreal to him that the pit could be happy. Oh yeah and he should keep him far away from any other bats.
When Jason started to absentmindedly pet Phantom's back he was surprised when the toddler suddenly started purring. Which in return caused Jason to feel sleepy as well.
Phantom open his eyes to be still meet with the living room of Red Hoods haunt. Looking around made his eyes land on Red Hoods head and dread immediately grabbed him. He slowly turned around to the person he still was sitting on.
Surprised he blinked at the white eyes that were surrounded by Red. Touching it with his hand revealed that they feel almost scaly. They seem to be asleep though. Phantom picked up Red Hoods head and looking inside. Maybe he was like a crab!
There was nothing but some kind of interface in it. Phantom phased his hand around it to figure out what it was for. And it surprised him that it had so many functions. There was even a button to make the head self destroy! He frowned at that discovery.
Looking back at the guy he was still sitting on. He felt like Red Hood, but why would he rip his own head off???? That must have hurt.
Phantom tilted his head as he noticed Red Hoods chest move. Placing a hand against it revealed a beating. It was a bit faster than his own beating, but it was interesting to see it happen on someone other than him. Phantom watched the movement as if it was some tense action movie
Causing himself to flinch when the headless Red Hood moved differently. It seemingly took Red Hood a moment before realizing that Phantom was staring at him.
"Ah, hi there. I promise I am not hostile" the headless Red Hood greeted awkwardly. He sounded strangely like that creature.
Notes:
I realized Danny is far to clingy for what I planned to do with him...
Chapter 7: Misunderstanding gone wrong.
Chapter Text
Jason watched Phantom carefully for any sign of destress. Phantom just stared for another moment before finally speaking up.
"Does it hurt?" Phantom questioned curiously and held his Red helmet up in front of him.
"Ehm, no?" Jason sounded unsure.
"Can I fix your head?" Phantom asked.
"Why? What's wrong with it?" Jason question's getting even more confused. Is he offering to fix Jason's face?
"Well it has a kaboom function! No one likes to go kaboom!" Phantom explained confidently, while looking at the red helmet.
"You think my head is my helmet. Oh, ooooh. How did you-?" Jason eyes widened when he realized what Phantom was referring to. It was the build in bomb. Why the fuck would a toddler know what a bomb was!?
"Technus taught me how to read devices" Phantom explained proudly.
"Technus huh?" Jason repeated speechlessly.
"Yes, he loves everything electrical and has so many robots. Even though he is a robot, but like one of the really big ones" Phantom ranted proudly.
Jason chuckles awkwardly. Who the fuck thought teaching 4 year old how to recognize a fucking bomb was a good idea!? What was there plans to do with Phantom if they taught him something like that? Phantom was a weapon wasn't he? A new wave of horror washed over Jason's at the new learned implications.
"Your laughing sounds funny, but your other voice was cooler" Phantom stated.
"Phantom, how many abilities would you say you have?" Jason inquired worriedly.
"Hmmm my parents say I have many, but I don't remember how to count" Phantom admitted sadly.
"Well can you describe them?" Jason requested.
"One time I screamed so loud it pushed others away and it shook the whole island!" Phantom recounted.
A sonic scream. Jason thought.
"Sometimes I also like to make walls to stop the eyes from pestering me" Phantom grumbled.
"Like ice walls?" Jason question's remembering when Phantom boxed himself up with ice.
"Mhm, Pandora made sure I knew how to fight and Undergrowth told me how to make plants big" Phantom said thoughtfully.
Jason was correct who ever the kids parents were wanted to use him as there weapon there was no other explanation.
"I can also eat the loud light!"
"Okay kiddo, how about I make you some breakfast" Jason offered, putting Phantom of his leg.
"I don't break fast!" Phantom exclaimed offendedly and stared angrily at Jason.
"That's not what I meant!" Jason sighed. "Breakfast is food-"
Phantom gasped. "You eat ghosts!?" Before pointed the flashlight at him threateningly.
"No, Phantom I- here we call eating in the morning breakfast" Jason explained carefully. While holding his hands out to look less threateningly.
Phantom's eyes widened with horror. "Y-you ate Red Hood!" He accused.
"No, please I didn't I swear" Jason pleaded as Phantom backed away with both the Red helmet and the flashlight.
He crouched down to be at Phantom's level and looked at him pleadingly. Phantom just narrows his eyes at him.
"Please came back, I am Red Hood" Jason tried to convince him.
"Nice try fruit loop! Flashlight attack!" Phantom called out.
Jason suddenly got blinded by said flashlight. Until Phantom was completely gone with both the flashlight and his helmet. Fuck. He immediately ran into every single apartment room. Nothing. Jason even looking around the block, but there was no sign of Phantom anywhere.
He even asked his neighbors without his mask. "Madison have you seen a toddler run around with a Red helmet and a flashlight?"
"No sorry Jason" She smiled sheepishly.
"Oh yeah the little kid ran around, probably trying to pretend to be Red Hood. Was pretty cute" Johnathan smirk amused. After Jason asked him.
"Do you know which way he ran? His mother asked me to get him back" Jason question's worriedly. It definitely wasn't also that the pit was a bit to vocal about wanting Phantom back.
"Along the Anderson street" Jonathan answered.
"Thank you!" Jason called out before he went that direction.
It was like he was on a goose chase. Only difference it was a very powerful toddler. Much to say Jason didn't find him when the night was once more starting to creep in. That's when he suddenly felt dizzy and started to lean on some random alley wall for support.
Jason puked into the nearest trash dumpster and was very concerned when he realized what he puked out. It was fucking Lazarus water. He stared at it desovleing some of the trash in the dumpster. What the fuck!?
This never happened before, but before he could get any father then that thought the pit rage took a hold of him and everything went green. It was this time so overwhelming that he couldn't do anything against it. The only thought repeated constantly was to get Phantom Back.
Chapter Text
Phantom wasn't stupid! Fake Red Hood can't trick him! He just doesn't want to be eaten. So he left him behind and and there were so many creatures again. Maybe they would mistake him for Red Hood and be scared. If he had Red Hoods head on.
It worked! They didn't recognize him anymore. The only thing that creeped him out where there smiles. Smiles are usually bigger than those and sharper. Not so tiny....
Fake Red Hood was after him and he knew it. Fruit loops never leave him alone after they meet him. They are always trouble. Especially if they eat ghosts!
So Phantom followed the other ghosts he spotted, now that he was save with Red Hoods head. He also told the flashlight to hide. Because Red Hood is not known to talk to them. Which was a bit rude in Phantom's opinion.
"Hey! Where did you get the helmet?" A teenager came out of an alley.
Phantom just stared at her wide eyed. "F-fear M-me, I am R-Red Hood!" He stuttered nervously and was surprised when his voice was different.
"Red Hood huh? Isn't he a bit to menacingly for some toddler to mug him?" She chuckled.
Phantom flinched away from them. While holding firmly onto his flashlight.
"N-No I am Red H-hood!" Phantom repeated but felt bad for lying.
She scoffed. "Just had over the helmet little one and nothing will happen to you"
She started coming closer and started to hold her hands out to grab the head of off him, but Phantom back away father. Some shades in the area noticed that he boy that was following them stopped.
"Defend yourself Phantom" They whispered into his ear.
"But but-" Phantom tried to protest.
"No buts just hand it over already" She demanded.
Phantom shivered as tears started to stream down his face inside of Red Hoods head. The shades only repeated there words. Before The tiny Creature could come any closer a ecto shield formed around Phantom.
Which made her pause. "You are a Meta" She realized.
Phantom just started to sob and crying standing in his little safety bubble. "Please don't hurt me"
"I... Eeh" She never came across a meta child before. So she doesn't know how to respond to that. She knock lightly on the very solid bubble. Before the child vanished directly in front of her.
Phantom yelped when he was suddenly picked up, but calmed down as soon as he felt the Ghostly precents. Her glitching face was funny and she held him like one of his mom's would. Otherwise she had one of those elegant dresses that Dorathea would wear, but her's was darker.
"I do hope my knight didn't spook you to much" She mused absentmindedly as Danny sniffles a bit.
"Knight?" Danny repeated curiously.
"Oh yes" she knocked at Red Hoods head lightly. "Red Hood is quite worried about you Phantom"
"But the fruit loop ate him! You need to get him back out!" Phantom demanded.
"My dear, you seem to have gotten confused. A human could never eat one of ours"
"Huh, Why do you let so many scary creatures into your haunt?" Phantom asked curiously.
"They created me my dear, I am Gotham" Gotham introduced herself.
Phantom gasped. "How!?"
"I am a city spirit" Gotham explained simply.
"You exist of off there emotions" Phantom recalled one of the lessons in the castle.
"Correct" She radiated smugness, before Gotham put him down on one of the rooftops.
"What do you do?" Phantom questioned.
"Nudging people in the right direction" Gotham explained cryptically.
"Like me?" Phantom inquired. As the flashlight stopped hiding.
"Yes like you" Gotham agreed before vanishing.
"Hmmm" Phantom hummed in thought and turned around. Only to see someone with horns and wings come closer to him.
They were almost completely black, but not as foggy as spectra. They also had some yellow accents and white eyes. As they spotted Phantom they almost stumbled probably in surprise.
"Hello there kiddo, could you tell me where you got that helmet from?" He questioned softly.
"How are you not dead?" Phantom asked in awe.
Which seems to have taken him of guard. "Jason?"
"No, you don't feel dead. Are you alive????" Phantom questioned bewildered.
"Yes, I am" he said in a more gruff voice.
"You need to hide! The scary creatures don't like differences" Phantom grabbed the guys hand and looked around for a good hiding place. Before realizing he himself had no where to hide.
"What scary creatures?" He asked calmly.
"The once with two arm's and two legs. We need to hide" Phantom stressed once more.
The black guy crouched down in front of him and grabbed his shoulder. "I can get you somewhere safe, if you tell me where you got that helmet from"
Phantom grimiest at the realization that he took it without permission. "I took it from Red Hood, when I thought he was eaten..." He admitted shamefully.
"What made you think Red Hood was eaten?" He inquired completely calm.
"Well one of the creatures beheaded him and tried to pretend to be him. I tried to protect his head, but it was just to scary. Then Red Hood was somehow fine again and made me this sweet blood looking soup, called Tomato soup. Maybe that was just a dream? It was to sweet to be real!" Phantom Explained.
"Hey Oracle can you send someone to Check on Red Hood? A Toddler with his helmet just told me he got beheaded" He tapped the side of his head.
Phantom stomach suddenly started to growl. Which caused Phantom to tilted his head in confusion. How is he already hungry again? Did he really dream of the tomato soup?
"How about we go eat something chum?" He offered.
Notes:
Guess who the black guy is.
Chapter 9: Burger!
Notes:
Anyone who had guessed Batman is correct.
Chapter Text
Bruce was dumfounded at this toddler. Someone as small as him shouldn't be able to get on top of a rooftop. He admits that he almost missed the kiddo if it wasn't for the flashlight he was holding. Then the news about Red Hood. Bruce doesn't want Jason to have died again, but he cannot just ignore the fact that the kid had his helmet on.
Jason would never let him check on him though so he sent some of his children. While he keeps an eye on the kiddo. Can toddlers eat burgers? He never had a toddler before.
"What's your name kiddo?" Batman questioned.
"I am Phantom! But don't tell the creatures!" Phantom warned in the voice Jason normally used.
Ah yes the creatures. Which turned out to be any other regular person on the street. Phantom still hadn't let go of his hand and stayed as close as possible to his side, but followed Bruce wherever he was going. He really wondered why the kiddo trusted him so much.
"Have you ever eaten burgers Phantom?" Batman inquires.
That made Phantom gasp. "Burgers! Are we going to eat burgers!!! I want a burger!" He tugged him in excitement.
Batman grunted in agreement.
"Do you have a nasty burger????" Phantom questioned.
"Why would you like a nasty burger?" Batman asked bewildered.
"Those are the best burgers there are! They don't come alive or anything!" Phantom explained confidently.
Batman grunted surprised.
Phantom stopped in his tracks when they were in front of the Bat Burger establishment and clung even tighter to him. Presumably because it had a group of people coming out of it. Batman decided to hide him in his cape, for more comfort.
"Do we need to go in there? What if it's a trap?" Phantom asked worriedly.
"That's where the burgers are chum, We can eat on another rooftop though. So you don't need to take Red Hoods helmet of until then" Batman reassured calmly.
"What's a helmet?" Phantom questioned curiously.
"Reporting back Red Hood is in none of his safe houses and seems to have left Crime Ally. No blood has been found, so it's unlikely that he died" Red Robin explained.
"Hello black guy??? What's a helmet?" Phantom repeated.
"Huh, oh I am Batman. A helmet is like a hat that protects your head from injuries" Batman explained.
"Wow, that could be useful" Phantom marveled.
"You are currently wearing Red Hoods helmet chum" Batman stated.
"Then why does it have a kaboom function?" Phantom questioned curiously.
"Kaboom function?" Batman repeated bewildered.
"Mhm, that like rips you apart in ity bitty pieces and its so painful to regenerate" Phantom clarified.
"How do you know about this?" Batman asked carefully.
"Well when it was so so painful, the scary creatures tried that on me" Phantom explained quietly.
Batman grunted in horror. Before they finally entered the establishment. He got them two normal Bat Burgers with fries and drinks. While the only sign a person could see of Phantom was his flashlight. Since he was still hiding under Batmans cape.
"No I don't think you have a mouth flashlight" Phantom whispered inside of the cape.
Which caused Batman to grunt in amusement as they waited for there order to be ready.
Maybe Phantom was a lab designation. Bruce thought. It would explain his hysterical fear of people. An abducted child would still know that only specific People are evil, but definitely not to this level of fear. It was the only conclusion that fit. Which was just tragic. Phantom was so young.
"Why are you sad Batman?" Phantom questioned suddenly.
Batman grunted surprised. Before accepting there order.
"Don't worry you can be sad, because I will protect you!" Phantom declared determinedly.
Batman was even more surprised when Phantom slipped out of his grip. While he grappled onto a nearby roof. Only to find him in the air with there food safety in him hands. As if he was just standing on solid ground.
"Come over here Phantom!" Bruce stressed.
"Reporting back I have eye contact with the helmet less Red Hood and he seems to be in a pit madness episode" Spoiler stated.
"I am sorry, I didn't mean to scare you" Phantom apologized.
"It's fine, chum" Batman explained carefully calm.
"Update he is forcefully interrogating almost very one he comes across to find someone named Phantom?" Spoiler sounded questioningly at the end.
"What!? That's not a normal pit madness pattern. Normally he just beats up who ever is nearby to death" Red Robin exclaimed bewildered.
"No one died so far actually" Spoiler commented.
Batman took his own burger out of the bag and started eating it. Phantom had taking Red Hoods helmet of. Which revealed black hair and blue eyes. Bruce realized Phantom's mouth was to small, but before he could offer his help. Phantom dislocated his jaw and open his mouth impossibly wide. Before biting into his burger.
Bruce paused and just stared at Phantom who continued eating as if nothing happened with his to wide mouth. Then he started to cry.
"T'is is so good" Phantom slurred a bit with his mouth full.
He carefully continues eating as well, but his eyes didn't dare leave the toddler.
Chapter 10: Typical Toddler Distraction
Chapter Text
After they finish eating the most delicious burgers Phantom ate in what felt like ages. Batman offered him to show him a safe place to hide out in. He swung across buildings which kind of confused Phantom.
"Hey Batman?" Phantom inquired floating after him, with Red Hoods head on again.
"Hm?" Batman answered stopping on the next rooftop.
"Why don't you use your wings?" Phantom questions curiously.
"What wings?" Batman asked calmly.
Phantom pointed to his cape.
"Oh, that's not wings that's my cape" Batman explained.
"But it's sooo big and and feels like wings" Phantom commented, thinking back to the time he hid in it in the Bat Burgers.
Batman grunted in amusement.
"Are you some kind of spider? But why would a spider have wings?" Phantom decided now was the time to look with the help of his flashlight what exactly was underneath the cape.
"What are you doing chum?" Batman asked as he let Phantom back into his cape.
"I'm figuring out what you are!" Phantom declared determinedly.
"I am a human" Batman stated.
That made Phantom freeze up where he was. Before he started to protest.
"No you can't be that, being that is something bad and your not bad!" Phantom declared determinedly. "And those Creatures don't have horns"
"But I don't have horns" Batman sounded a bit confused.
"Sure you do! There are sticking out of your head!" Phantom declared, now seemingly satisfied with his inspection.
"You mean the bat ears?" Batman asked amused.
"Huh, those are ears?" Phantom came back out of Batman cape and now inspection his ears more closely.
"Yes"
"Well then you can't be some kind of Yeti" Phantom decided.
"We need to continue come on" Batman started to jump over rooftops again.
Phantom followed him, before he noticed something in the corner of his eyes. Which made him halt and smiled extremely excitedly. He was completely distracted by the junk yard to continue following Batman. There would be so many old technology to read and he could make something out of it.
It had been so long since Technus visited him last and he really missed their tinkering seasons. So could you really blame Phantom? It wasn't his fault people don't know how to put important technology into there haunts.
"Phantom!" Batman called out as soon as he noticed Phantom wasn't following him anymore.
"Look flashlight we could make you some friends" Phantom sounded cheerful.
"Phantom it's not safe here" Batman tried to get though to the toddler again.
"What do you mean? There are no creatures here! It's perfect!" Phantom exclaimed with Wonder.
"I reported I can't deliver the child to the manor, he got distracted by a junk yard" Batman spoke to himself again and sometimes he himself answered in different voices. Which was funny.
This time he could hear some faint chuckles from Batmans other voices.
Though Phantom started to think about what he wanted to make. He was kind of sad that the flashlight couldn't speak. So he decided to make a device that says his name. Then he would never forget it again!
Batman was very worried when Phantom suddenly disappeared and almost got a heart attack when he seen him standing inside of a spike. As if it was pierced him though his chest, but he just walked right out of it completely uninjured.
"Phantom... Red Hood is currently very angry with you" Batman tried to explain to him. Only to lose him out of his sight again.
"He probably wants his head back" Phantom replied absentmindedly from another pile of junk.
"Well the point is Phantom that you are not safe as long as he is this angry" Batman explained carefully.
"Not true!" Phantom declared.
Batman grunted surprised.
"He is one of my people! And I haven't interrupted his obsession!" Phantom defended Red Hood.
"Your people?" Batman repeated curiously.
"Mhm" Phantom agreed and read another technology piece.
"How exactly?" Batman inquired.
"Well he feels dead enough" Phantom stated, while completely concentrating on his tasked at hand.
Chapter 11: Reunion
Chapter Text
Bruce was dumbfounded. Why would a child this young have people? And why do they need to be dead enough to qualify? Did he somehow know that Jason died?
"Batman Why do you have so many voices? Can I have one of them?" Phantom requested having a huge piece of metal junk in his tiny hands.
"What do you mean?" He inquired.
"Don't worry if it's supposed to be a secret I won't tell anyone" Phantom said proudly, while putting the metal junk in the cleaning where he left his flashlight.
The morning was beginning to dawn again and Jason still hasn't gotten back to his senses. He was watching over Phantom making sure the kid was okay. While Duke started to switch with Spoiler to followed Jason around. Who grown even more frantic in finding Phantom.
"10 more minutes and he will reach the junkyard your at location" Signal reported.
Batman looks around more and again noticed Phantom was somewhere in the junk out of his view. He also patrolled the edges of the junkyard that cornered on the city.
That's how he spotted the owners car driving inside. He was on the phone with someone. As he walked over to the hut inside the junkyard. Completely oblivious to both Phantom and Batman being in the vicinity.
That's when Batman spotted Jason and they locked eyes for a moment. Before Jason sneered and charged at him.
"Where the fuck is he!?" Jason punched him, but he dodged.
"Jason, you need to calm down" Bruce stated worriedly.
"You can't just take Phantom away from me!" Jason had suddenly tears running down his cheeks. As his next punch connected.
"You already taken so fucking much!" Jason exclaimed hitting once more.
"Jason!" Bruce called out again blocking his punch.
"Where the fuck is Phantom!" Jason sneered and didn't relent.
"I can't bring you to Phantom in the state you are in" Batman declared hitting him back.
"Fuck you can! You hypocritical liar!" Jason this time tried to kick Batman. Which he dodged.
"I know you Jason, you don't want to hurt a child!" Batman stated blocking another punch.
"You know fucking nothing! You-" Both Jason and Batman halted there fighting when they heard a scream.
Both of them ran back into the junkyard and spotted the junkyard owner was holding Phantom's arm.
"Little shits like you. Belong in a orphanage!" They heard him scolding Phantom. Who was sobbing and desperately trying to get out of the guys grip. While Red Hoods helmet was on the floor.
Then Jason started to beat the shit out of him.
"Are you good there buddy?" Batman inquired softly to the still sobbing Phantom.
Phantom now sitting on the floor shaking and looking around. Sniffles could be heard still coming out of his mouth, but he started smiling. Batman followed him gaze and noticed he was watching Jason beat up the junkyard owner. Batman stepped in so that the guy wouldn't die.
"Wha??? Batman????" Great the guy had a concussion.
Jason growled making the guy flinch.
"Leave immediately" Batman ordered, still having Jason restricted.
The junkyard owner didn't think twice and booked it. Phantom was applauding.
"That was so cool! How are you so strong????" Phantom questions innocently.
Jason's body slumped in relief. "Phantom..."
"Oh oh you need your head back!" Phantom picked up the Red Hood helmet and brought it to him.
"Wait you are not scared of me anymore????" Jason asked bewildered. As Batman let go of him again.
"No, you are a knight!" Phantom exclaimed proudly.
Jason chuckles amused. "Please don't ever run away like that again"
"Okay... But Batman gave me a burger!" Phantom beamed.
Jason gave Bruce a side eye. Before he accepted his helmet back.
"Were you able to eat it?" Jason inquired curiously.
Batman grunted in surprise.
"Mhm, it was a bit big, but I remembered how to dislocate my jaw" Phantom explained cheerfully.
"Good job kiddo, but Batman needs to leave now. Because Bats aren't active in the day light" Jason explained smugly.
"Oh, I thought bats were little and used there wings and stuff" Phantom commented.
"He is just a special bat" Jason shrugged.
Batman grunted once more, before taking the hint and leaving.
"Is that really such a good idea to leave the little monstrosity with Jason?" Signal inquired.
"Monstrosity?" Batman repeated bewildered.
"Well yeah that thing is definitely not human" Duke commented.
"What do you see?" Batman demanded.
"It's leaking something misty, that when I look at it to long looks like a miniature universe. Not to mention the monsters that try to crawl there way out of it" Duke reported.
"Then Phantom is even more of an unknown than I already thought. Oracle see if you can get any information out of Red Hood" Batman requested.
