“Aye, my chick.” Kettie nods. “You sure as hell did.” He lifts his wingless son, former hero, former pet of the HPSC now let free with nothing to his name because he had no use for them anymore. “But rock bottom is a good as hell foundation to build up from.” Winding his drunk son’s left arm over his shoulders, he turns them away from the bar, curling a wing around him to keep wandering eyes off them, gritting his teeth silently when a shaking hand, bandaged, reaches out to pet his feathers before fingers curl into a fist and yank. “Things can only get better from here, Babyfeathers, that’s the thing about rock bottom, things can only go up.”
