A series of unfortunate events leads Luca into doubting himself and those around them. But a certain sorcerer refuses to let the other put himself down for something that was not his fault.

Notes:

ngl i think i took a little too much personal experience in mind for this one. I didn't expect it to get so dark but it kinda just ended up flowing onto the page before i realized what i wrote. But i didn't want to change it either since i feel it tells the story the best way.

But as i said in the tags, warning for blood, guns, and emotional distress and depressing self-hatred speech are in this fic. So please, do take care of yourself and don't read if it makes you uncomfortable. I have marked the sections for the depressing stuff with a **, so keep an eye out if you need it.

Sry again this took forever to upload. Please enjoy <3

Work Text:

Luca and Shu walked up to the warehouse where one of Luca’s informants had said his twin sister had been taken.

It was crazy to think just 5 years ago, Luca’s father had given him the title of the future heir to the Kaneshiro name: the mafia, the family business… all of it. He’d only been 12, and didn’t understand much (since his mother had sheltered him quite a bit from the harsher parts of the family’s past), but now that he had grown up, understood things better… he regretted it. Every second. He didn’t like being a mafia boss, or being appointed to become one. In fact, he hated it. When he was 16, he was planning to run away, with his servant Shu, who had been appointed his personal servant 5 years ago as well but Luca had grown fond of, and his twin sister once they all graduated high school, Sadly though 3 months ago that all changed. As the night Luca and Lucy were getting ready to go to Prom with Shu and some other friends, the twin’s mother was killed. Their father immediately went out to search for the rival gang that killed her. And just a week after, their father went missing with only his gun and a bloody handprint found. Luca was immediately appointed to take position as the head of the family temporarily until his father returned. But it honestly now seemed like his father was gone… well… forever.

It had been 3 months already and no one has seen or heard from the man. Rumors in the mafia and on the Kaneshiro estate had been floating around that the man was more than likely dead too.

And now Luca was forced to go on a mission to save his twin, because per usual enemies the mafia had made through the years and the rivals that sought to tear down the Kaneshiro’s brick by brick, had managed to capture and take hold of his twin sister. And he wasn’t going to sit idly at home letting some henchman try to retrieve her especially since he honestly had no faith in a lot of the mafia members. As they say: if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. And Luca was not going to let some rookie members who had barely been in a fight before go on a mission to save his last remaining family member. No way in hell. And yet… Luca’s heart was pounding. Hard. He could feel his own heartbeat within his ears, and it felt like his entire body was on edge. He could distinctly recognize the weight of every tiny thin occasional drip of rain coming from the darkened clouds overhead. And most of all…. He could detect his own fear that was building, making his hands slightly sweaty.

But a certain sorcerer, who’d been by the blonde’s side for years, could tell he was more nervous than he’d ever seen the guy, even when he tried to ask out a girl a few months ago for the first time of his life. So, he spoke up, his voice soft yet voicing his concern without him having to outright say he was worried. “You okay?” He asked the other male, adjusting his white palm-length gloves as he looked over at the other teen.

Luca was adjusting his own regular leather gloves, looking over at Shu as he spoke. He saw Shu was looking at Luca’s hands, glancing down to notice his hands were a bit shaky. He cleared his throat, lowering his hands and out of view.. “Yeah.” Luca lied, keeping a steady voice despite his nerves. “I’m fine…”

He paused a moment, since Shu was silent, clearly waiting for Luca to finish, before speaking again. “So you… remember the day we met?” He muttered, glancing back at the ravenette.

Shu’s eyes widened a little bit. It had been a while… but how could Shu forget? The day he was finally allowed out of his house and got to wear a nice fancy kimono… and the day he met his new best friend. He smiled faintly, fondly recalling the memory. “You mean the day you told me ‘I don’t want to be friends’?” Shu half-teased the mafia boss.

Luca blushed a little, clearing his throat awkwardly. “You know I didn’t mean it as a bad thing.” He huffed a bit, sighing.

5 years prior

The sun shone brightly outside, birds chirping softly as they sat in the thin branches of the cherry and peach trees that decorated the Kaneshiro estate that beautiful April day, sunlight filtering through the leaves and casting shadows of the figures of the branches and leaves all throughout the pathways.

Shu walked alongside his mother and father, holding his mother’s hand. His kimono felt a bit big on him, but his mother insisted it was supposed to be that way (refusing to admit she may have forgotten to shorten the bottom part by mistake), but the raven haired young boy didn’t care. It was his first time being outside the house.

For years after he was born, his parents insinuated he couldn’t go outside. He couldn’t play with the other kids on the estate because Shu was… well, different. He wasn’t human. At the time, Shu’s mother only told Shu he had powers, and had been helping him learn small abilities. Some of them being incantations to create tiny spheres of light made of his pink flames, purge small curses put on items, and occasionally healing using his flames for small wounds. Of course, this was when he was young. His move set is a lot larger and more versatile now, but back then his mother only taught him three basic skills to help him learn complete precise control of his flames and his talismans since they can spiral out of control if not careful enough.

As Shu made it to the main estate with his family, they walked on the side of the main house, down a small pathway over a small wooden red bridge that went over a stream in the garden, and into the gravel Zen garden with a pair of stairs that led up onto the outer porch platform of the house.

The doors were opened by two men standing on either side of the large shoji doors, and opened up into a big room. There, he saw a few people: 3 guard-like men standing at each entrance. A woman standing off to the side, wearing a simple black elegant dress. A man in the top middle wearing a black pinstripe suit with golden detailing's. And two younger kids around Shu’s age, both also wearing Kimono’s like Shu’s except theirs were black with gold rather than Shu’s dark purple with white.

The man looked up as the Yamino’s entered, the parents both giving a small thanks and bowing before gently reminding Shu to do the same, to which he followed suit and politely thanked the Kaneshiro family for letting them in.

The man looked to Shu, and then to Luca, then back to Shu. “Luca, come here.” He said firmly yet gently. “I want you to meet someone.”

Shu glanced over to notice the boy sitting on the floor, his eye’s getting a bit wide as if he were excited, before standing up and walking over to his father, standing in front of him. The man then looked to Shu, which made him freeze up a bit since he was nervous. “Yamino, please come over here.” He asked with a faint smile.

Shu glanced back at his parents nervously, who both gave small words of encouragement and reassurance, telling Shu to basically listen to the man. After a second, Shu obeyed, looking back to the man and the blonde boy before walking forward, stopping in front of the other boy, the two now looking at each other, Shu’s few inches of height advantage feeling odd.

The man then spoke up again. “Shu, I know we have not formally met, but my name is Arthur Kaneshiro.” He introduced himself, his thick Australian accent making it a bit hard for Shu to understand his words fully. At the time, Shu knew very little English. And the man’s accent didn’t make trying to decipher his words any better. “I’m the reason your family has a place to live, and the current head of the Kaneshiro family.”

Shu looked to the older man, only catching bits and pieces of what he was saying but nodded. “It is nice to finally meet you, sir.” He murmured softly in broken English, but giving a respectful bow regardless.

The man chuckled softly, clapping one hand each onto Luca and Shu’s shoulder. “Anyways, enough about me.” He smiled at Shu. “I want you to meet my son.”

Shu looked forward, his eyes widening a bit. The slightly shorter boy in front of him… was the son of the head of the family. And suddenly, he felt very aware of everything that was happening. His parents had told him one day he would meet someone who would change his life, but he never thought the day would come so soon.

The man continued after gently clearing his throat, looking to the other boy. “Luca, this is Shu.” He introduced. “As of today, Shu will be your permanent bodyguard. As per the agreement the Yamino family signed years ago when they partnered with us, he is to assist you in anything you need and protect you when the normal guards are not around.” He explained, voice firming up and becoming a bit more serious-sounding than it had been moments ago.

Luca looked forward, his narrow lavender eyes looking into Shu’s amethyst ones. He didn’t know what was happening… honestly, Luca was still overwhelmed with the fact prior to Shu’s arrival, his father had announced Luca would be the future head of the family after his father dies or if he goes missing. Back then, Luca didn’t fully understand the weight of those words. Nor the full meaning of them.

But as he looked at Shu… he knew he didn’t want to just be acquaintances. If anything, Luca was ecstatic: he finally had a real friend! Someone to hang out with and play tag in the yard with that wasn’t the usual people he was forced to hang out with!

Luca’s eyes sort of lit up, and he smiled at Shu. “It’s nice to meet you.” He told the latter, his own Australian accent not as thick as his father’s, which made it easier for Shu to discern the words.

Shu couldn’t help but faintly smile back, but bowed respectfully as well. “It’s nice to meet you as well.” Shu then raised himself up, extending a hand to Luca for the other to shake.

The blonde boy hesitated before taking Shu’s hand and shaking hands with him. “I don’t want to be friend’s though.” He said suddenly, and with an enthusiasm that scared Shu.

The ravenette froze, and he heard the woman in the room gasp softly before saying Luca’s full name in a scolding manner, and the father of the Kaneshiro household firmly telling Luca that wasn’t nice. It felt out of place all of a sudden.

Luca looked at Shu, stepping forward and taking the other boy’s opposite hand, smiling wildly, the slight fangs of his canine teeth peeking out slightly. “I want to be best friends!” He said cheerfully. “Let’s go play, come on!” And then suddenly, Luca practically dragged Shu out of the room as Luca’s father Shu’s mother called out to the two to come back, both boys laughing softly as they ran off to go hide away from the responsibilities of their lives and find a private place to play together.

Shu chuckled faintly as he recalled the memory. He knew Luca didn’t mean it that way, but it was funny to slightly tease him about it. “Those were the days.” He recalled fondly with a faint sigh. “Playing with dirt in the yard and making mud pies on rainy days while your mother scolded you for getting your clothes dirty time and time again.” He laughed softly.

Luca shrugged, smiling faintly himself. “What can I say: I was a master mud pie maker.” He smirked, crossing his arms and standing a bit taller.

Shu rolled his eyes a bit but couldn’t help the small chuckle that escaped. “Anyways.” He continued, looking at Luca, to see the other male gently running his gloved thumb over the indentations of the Kaneshiro family crest carved into the side of the golden gun. “I just… I have a question.” Thunder rumbled faintly as Luca looked up at the other, his eyes and tone having a seriousness to them that Shu was unfamiliar with.

He rarely saw Luca serious. Usually, the latter was goofing off, making jokes and just being silly most of the time, with small occasions of seriousness or if he was studying or doing school work he would be completely and utterly locked in on that subject. Rarely did he see Luca serious though, in the way he was right now. He swallowed the slight lump in his throat, feeling a bit worried by the other’s tone. Regardless, he nodded. “Go on then.” Shu encouraged, keeping his voice in a somewhat serious tone as well, but his usual softness and calm still lingering in his tone.

Luca watched Shu for a moment, his heart feeling tight. He looked over at the warehouse they were about to go into, in which a few of the mafia members had already successfully surrounded and were hiding around by the entrances, waiting for Luca’s command to enter. He looked back at Shu, a slightly frown on his lips. “No matter what happens,” He started off, his voice cracking a bit due to his nerves. “Promise me… you’ll be there.”

Shu frowned a bit, feeling the heavy weight in the air that had just appeared. Luca’s words weren’t something light, and he clearly wasn’t messing around. After a second, the ravenette nodded, feeling his heart beating a bit faster. “Of course.” He muttered. “I’ll always be there, Luca. No matter what.”

Luca felt a weight lift off his shoulders. He didn’t know why… but if it weren’t for Shu, he didn’t know if he would have the strength to even go into the warehouse himself. But… he knew he had the ravenette by his side, and that was enough for him to have the confidence in himself to go in. His eyes narrowed a bit as he looked at the warehouse, thunder rumbling distantly. The mafia boss adjusted his black leather gloves, twisting the golden ring on his thumb, taking a deep breath.

“Then let’s go save Lucy and go home for some dinner.” He said firmly, his hands still a little shaky but clenching his fingers a little tighter before he cocked the gun back and continued forward, Shu not far behind.
With that, the two headed in with a few of Luca’s men taking the front lines. Sadly, it didn’t end up being like Luca wanted. Several people got shot, including his own men. Thankfully, the only people dead were the enemy, and any injuries were superficial and nothing drastic. Shu was able to use his sorcery to heal some people’s wounds, other wounds having to be tended to by the mafia’s appointed medic who was outside in a van with some supplies.

Finally, after probably the longest 15 minutes of Luca’s life, they made it to the room Lucy was being held in. Luca had managed to avoid having to fire a single bullet the entire fight, only using his fist.

As the mafia boss and sorcerer got to the room and looked around, they didn’t find anyone except Lucy. The leader of the rival gang was no where to be found, even after searching every room in the warehouse. Once it was confirmed he was no where to be seen, they figured it was safe to process. Luca sighed in relief as he saw Lucy sitting there, tied up to a chair with duck tape on her mouth and a blindfold on. She had a few bruises, but nothing crazy thankfully. Shu was just behind Luca, also relaxing a bit at the sight of hours friend’s twin sister being safe. He went over to her whilst Shu started to look around for intel.

(*trigger warning for descriptions of mild violence [blood, guns and knives] so please skip if you need to*)

But as Shu was opening up a closet door, and Luca was using his knife to cut the rope around his sister’s wrists, Luca heard a loud sound and turned around to see a man fall out of the closet he just opened. Before Luca could react, only Abel to pull his gun put, the man grabbed Shu, wrapping their arm around his neck and holding the sorcerer at knife point.

“Step away from the girl.” The man threatened.

Luca froze. He recognized the man. It was the leader… no wonder no one found him, the guy had been hiding the entire time. He put his knife back in its sheath on his leg, putting his hands up slowly and stepping back away from Lucy. Luca’s heart was pounding. Why can’t everything be normal in our lives, dammit?! He thought to himself.

The man walked forward, still holding Shu. Luca watched cautiously as the man approached, closing the closet door behind himself. Luca then noticed Shu looked right at Luca, making a small motion with his head towards behind him. Luca was confused, but as he glanced behind the man he saw one of Shu’s Shikigami’s floating from behind, with a bit of Shu’s purple-pink fire around the edges of the paper. He had a feeling Shu had a plan, so he decided to let this play out.

Luca noticed the man distracted as he was shutting the door, and quickly took his gun out, pointing it towards the guy, the gun clicked as he cocked it. “Now I’m going to tell you do something: don’t move.” He told the rival leader in a threatening voice, despite the fact his heart was pounding and his hand was slightly shaky.

The man listened, standing where he stood, but still had his knife resting at the base of Shu’s throat.. which just made Luca more nervous than he already was. He noticed Shu grimace slightly as the man pressed the knife a little again his neck, no blood coming out but Luca knew enough about knives and what they did to someone to know it would be uncomfortable yo feel the edge, regardless of there being a cut or not.

Luca was trying to stay calm though, seeing Shu’s fingers gently twitch and the Shikigami moving around quietly behind the man. He knew Shu had a plan, but that honestly didn’t make this any easier. Luca felt like he wanted to throw up, in all honesty. But he stayed firm, and he stayed steady… for Shu. No one else.

The Shikigami then surged forward, the burning paper attaching itself to the man’s ankle. The man screamed out in pain from the fire, Shu’s amethyst eyes glowing as he increased the intensity. The man cursed loudly, cutting Shu’s neck in the panic to get the fire out. But ultimately, this caused the man to let go of Shu, stumbling back and dropping his knife to swat away the fire on his pant leg, shouting in pain.

Luca immediately surged forward to grab Shu, grabbing the other by his hand and pulling him behind himself. Shu stumbled a bit, shouting sometime to Luca but Luca didn’t hear it, going over to the man and pinning him to the floor as the purple-pink flames subsided, kneeling on the man’s back, his other knee on the floor to pin the guy in place, Luca grabbing one hand each and putting them behind his back.

“Alright, alright!” The man shouted, wincing in pain. “You win, let me go you little brat!”

Luca was mad though. He narrowed his eyes, holding tighter. His anger was consuming him to the point he was no longer paying attention to his surroundings. "I'll let go if you tell me where the hell my father is." He spat at the man.

Shu nor Lucy knew it, both of their jaws dropping at Luca's words, but he had secretly employed a private investigator to look into his father's disappearance. And he had received intel that the same rival enemy leader he was looking at was in close association with the actual group that took his father, and had a hand in his kidnapping.

The man simply smirked though, chuckling lowly. "You're smart." He said in a low voice, glancing to Luca's left suddenly. "But not smart enough." Luca then heard a click and turned his head around to see one of his mafia men pointing a gun towards Lucy. Shu followed his line of sight, both springing into action. Luca let go of the guy, running over and grabbing Lucy's hands and pulling her off the chair she was sitting on, getting her out of the line of fire.

In the same moment, Shu took out a Shikigami and with a swift flick of his wrist and a small incantation whispered under his breath, sent it towards the gun, the paper charm covering the front of the gun with a bit of his sorcerer flames covering the paper. The gun went off, but instead of a bullet flying out, Shu used a spell to deflect the energy back into the gun, and a small explosion went off in the traitor mafia member's gun, the gun exploding in his hand and causing the traitor to yell out in pain before falling to the floor.

Shu sighed in relief, glad catastrophe had been avoided. But as he looked at Luca and Lucy to ask them if he was okay, that's when he saw a glint, and noticed the rival gang leader pulling a gun from under his jacket. Luca looked up when he heard a click. With lightning fast reflexes, well faster than he'd grabbed Lucy, he pointed his gun at the guy. Two shots one off, one after the other but with Luca's being first. He heard Shu grunt, the rival gang leader collapsing to the floor with a thud and Shu kneeling to the ground, blood spilling from the rival gang leader's head, letting Luca know he hadn't missed his shot. It took a second, but as Luca realized what he just did, he felt his heart pounding, his hands immediately shaking and he dropped his gun, the metal clattering as it hit the floor below him.

(*violence part done now*)

The rest was a commotion of mafia members coming in, Lucy trying to calm down Luca and one of the medical members making sure Shu was alright. Luca could barely think straight, and went on autopilot.

He made sure the rest of his men checked the building thoroughly, and took any documents they could find whilst Luca helped Lucy out of her binds, took the blindfold off and duck tape. She kept asking if he was okay, but Luca simply just responded with he was fine, and continued to go on and do the things he needed to as boss.

Later, whilst the other mafia members were taking the intel they gained out of the building and to the one truck they had brought, Lucy going with them to make sure things were done right as well as taking the traitor prisoner, Shu went to go find Luca to tell him it was time to go but... he couldn't find the blonde anywhere in the building. Hell, he ended up having to take out a few Shikigami's to see if they could find him.

After about 5 minutes, one of the Shikigami's stopped at the base of a set of stairs. Shu looked up the stairs, seeing they led up to an emergency exit door that was on the roof. The door was slightly ajar, the soft patter of the rain being heard through the crack along with the occasional whistle of wind. He felt his Shikigami grabbing the edge of his jacket and pulling on it towards the stairs. Shu couldn't help but laugh softly, saying a small thank you to the spirit before having the Shikigami return to his pocket. With a small exhale, Shu took one of his gloves off and put his hand on the dusty handrail, running his hand along it as he walked up the stairs. Once he got to the top, he gently pushed the door further open, peering out onto the rain-soaked roof. The sky wasn't as grey as earlier, bits of blue poking through along with some faint orange hues from the sunset that was fading away as the sun had mostly disappeared along the horizon.

On the other end of the roof, he saw Luca sitting on one of the air-conditioning units, head down, rainwater dripping off the edges of his bangs every now and then, bare arms wet, along with his grey pants, and his black combat boots dotted with droplets as well. With a frown, Shu continued forward, gently shutting the door behind himself and walking over towards the mafia boss as he spoke up, voice quiet yet as gentle as ever.

"You're going to get sick sitting up here without your coat." He remarked, seeing Luca wasn't even wearing his bomber jacket he had on earlier. He just sat in that damned tight ass black tank top shirt, his gun belt around his chest pulling in all the right places, and the wet shirt leaving little to the imagination to the sorcerer but he was trying extremely hard not to stare at the other male's chest.

Luca looked up and over his shoulder, the usual blank look in his eyes seeming to disappear as if the light had came back into them, sitting up a little straighter as he saw the sorcerer approaching. "How'd you even find me...?" He asked with a small frown, but scooted over as Shu got closer, so that the latter could sit down.

Shu shrugged nonchalantly, sitting down beside Luca as he spoke. "Had a little help." He admitted with a small smile, one of his Shikigami's peeking out from under Shu's hood of his jacket.

Luca chuckled faintly, nodding in understanding. "Can't even hide from spirits, I guess." He half joked, looking back out at the clouds that were slowly beginning to part, the rain still falling but getting lighter.

Shu glanced at Luca, noticing that far-off look in his eyes. He saw it earlier when Lucy had been trying to get Luca to talk after everything happened. He also noticed Luca glancing at Shu's left shoulder, which had a bandage wrapped around it. He knew what the other was thinking, without him having to even say a thing. So, Shu spoke up. "They wrapped it wrong. It's not as bad as it looks, I promise." He tried to reassure him, reaching over and setting a hand on Luca's thigh. "It's a scratch if anything. Nothing serious."

Luca looked back at Shu again, those amethyst eyes feeling like they stared past his soul and straight into his heart. The blonde shook his head, thunder rumbling distantly as he sighed. "Can that jujutsu sorcery also read minds?" He half-joked, though was secretly thinking that maybe it was possible, since Luca didn't know the full extend of Shu's abilities yet as he'd only seen a handful of things.

Shu chuckled slightly, shaking his head. "I'm not a psychic, so no." He responded, gently elbowing Luca's arm. "But I have been friends with you for five years, and seen you go through a lot to be able to tell when something is on your mind." He added, his tone getting a bit more serious. "So... tell me what's going on, Luca. Because you've been avoiding everyone for the last half hour."

Luca looked at Shu once again, his heart skipping a beat and also a small shiver going down his spine as he noticed the more intense than usual look in the sorcerer's eyes. He looked away again, not able to face Shu. "You got shot because of me." He murmured.

(*this is the trigger warning for depressing content ahead*)

Shu sighed softly. "It wasn't serious though-" He starts to argue, but Luca stops him midsentence.

"Because of my poor judgement and shitty timing, you got hurt. Lucy got taken. Several other people got shot tonight, and don't even get me started on the fact that I had to pull the trigger and shoot someone because I had no other choice." His voice cracked.

"I had to kill someone, Shu.. You don't UNDERSTAND." His fingers curled into fist, resisting the urge to punch something there and then. "I feel like I'm going to throw up and simultaneously pass out. I just want to live a normal fucking life but I can't because I'm tethered to this stupid damn mafia!" Luca finished, panting slightly from how worked up he'd gotten.

He stood up as he released the fist he'd formed, not trusting himself, turning away from Shu. "I mean... Why are you even still here...?" He murmured, the sentence taking Shu aback. "Why did you even bother to come find me?"

"What do you mean?" Shu asked, standing up as well.

"I'm a horrible person," Luca said coldly, turning to look at Shu, tear's in his eyes. "You deserve someone better..."

Shu frowned, stepping forward and gently taking Luca's hand and squeezing it. "I don't want someone better, Luca." He said firmly. "There is no one 'better' than you. So don't even say something like that." He added, his tone a bit harsher at the end in hopes he could push through Luca's doubt and make him realize he was talking a bunch of nonsense. "And I came to find you because I care about you... You should know that."

Luca shook his head after a second, thunder rumbling distantly as lightning flickered, casting a slight glow on the blonde's face for a brief moment. "But I just killed someone." He argued back, his voice starting to choke up as his hand trembled in Shu's hold. "Why would you want to be with a murderer...?"

Shu sighed softly. He pulled Luca towards him with a suddenness that made the blonde stumble briefly before regaining his footing, before the sorcerer then buried his face against Luca's neck and the top of his collarbone, arms slowly sliding around his waist.

Luca hesitated a second, before returning the hug, wrapping his arms tightly around Shu, sniffling softly as he dipped his head down into Shu's hair, his heart still pounding. "You deserve to be happy... and you deserve to be with someone that is a good person, not some heartless killing machine like me--"

(*end of depressing part, you may resume :3*)

Shu decided Luca had ranted enough, and also needed something to calm him down, so suddenly, he pushed back, gently put a hand on Luca's chin and pushed it to the side so the blonde was facing towards him, their lips colliding before the mafia boss even had a second to register what had happened.

The two had been secretly dating since high school, but no one in the mafia knew (though Lucy had her suspicions). Luca froze up at first, but after a second he relaxed, his salty tears mixing with Shu's as he firmly grabbed the ravenette's shirt and pulled him closer, kissing Shu with a little more intensity and intent, both making small noises of enjoyment. After a solid 5 minutes of kissing, and Shu having to prevent Luca from taking his clothes off because the blonde was a bit needy today, they broke apart, both of them softly panting, but Shu more so since Luca had been rendering the sorcerer with how little he would let Shu take a breath.

Luca wiped some saliva from the corner of his mouth, looking at Shu. "What was that for?" He muttered, pushing Shu's slightly damp bangs out of his eyes, also twirling the longer bits of hair at the front around his finger.

The sorcerer blushed a bit at the gesture, but let his boyfriend play with his hair since he knew he loved to. "You were working yourself up and I didn't want to see you start crying." Shu muttered, looking off to the side as he awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck. "...Or else I'd start crying too." He added quietly.

Luca looked at Shu for a second, a faint smile pulling at his lips as he let go of Shu's hair, instead peaching the ravenette's cheeks with a small laugh. "You're so cute." He teased slightly, to which the ravenette mumbled a small muffled, 'no I'm not' but it was barely audible with the way the mafia boss was pulling on the sorcerer's cheek.

After a second, Shu successfully got Luca to let go, swatting away his hand with a huff. Luca couldn't help but keep smiling, feeling more at ease thanks to the efforts of his lover. "And thoughtful." He added, cupping Shu's cheek, giving him a small peck on the lips once again.

Shu blushed again, but returned the kiss regardless of how embarrassing Luca was making him feel. He was grateful it was just the two of them on the roof and no one else. Because he was pretty sure his face was more red than a tomato at the moment. "I try my best." He said softly, unable to help himself as he leaned against Luca's hand, enjoying the warmth of it since the sun had set fully now and between the drizzle and breeze it was getting a bit cold.

After a moment, Shu spoke up again, looking up at Luca. "And even if you ended up killing someone again... I wouldn't care." He said, his voice softer than usual. "I'll shoulder that burden with you. Because as much as you may think, you are anything but alone."

Luca wasn't sure if it was the way the sorcerer spoke or the intense longing gaze of those amethyst eyes staring into his own lavender ones, but he broke. A tear slipped down his cheek and he leaned forward, resting his forehead against his lovers, intertwining their fingers as he gently yet firmly grabbed hold of Shu's hands.

Shu hesitated, pushing Luca's hands away and instead wrapping his arms around the mafia boss, pulling him into his chest and holding onto him tightly, burying his face against Luca's hair as the last drop of rain fell on the roof, the moonlight now streaming through the scattered clouds. "I'll always be here to share the burden of this life... Ok?" He murmured, feeling his own tears starting to fall down his cheeks, holding Luca a little tighter. His voice was barely above a whisper, but it was loud enough Luca could hear.

"Always."
