Chapter 1: chapter-1

Chapter Text

Cold. Shivering from a cold that was caused by not a window left open, but something else. That was all they could feel trying to doze off last night, nothing else.

They had finally managed to come to terms with what was going to happen and how they had no apparent control over the situation at hand whatsoever. After all, Kris needed the soul because of their promise they made, which they swore they would abide by.

Having no tell over what the soul might do with their own body was also a part of the contract they willingly agreed upon. But did this indicate they foresaw all of this coming? No, it didn't. Using their childhood best friend as a more "willing" puppet then they were to fulfill their agenda for which Kris had no idea the goal was, wasn't even close to what they had imagined.

It was too late to stop anything anymore. They had lost all hope.

Now, they could only pray for Noelle. She was too far gone. Forcefully putting the ThornRing on her finger yesterday had changed something both in her and their soul. Kris could somehow feel her presence even if she wasn't beside them. Maybe this was the reason their whole body was shivering the entire night. It was all too complicated now.

The sun has made its way into the room through the window, signaling the beginning of the new day. Kris opened their eyes not because they were woken up by the rays of the sun but because there was a knock on the door, which sounded louder, and more... boney than usual.

"hey kid, uh, you awake?"

Oh, great. This guy existed.

"tori wanted me to say she prepared breakfast for you if you're in the mood. i'm gonna accompany her while she's getting groceries, cuz you know, i work at the convenience store. so, letting you know you have the house to yourself for a while. see you around, kiddo."

Kris couldn't even be mad at Toriel for leaving them alone this time because the heaven knows they didn't even want to see her, let alone hear her voice if it was possible for a while. (It still wasn't pleasant at all being woken up by sans the skeleton in their own house, but oh well, you'll take what you can get.)

After hearing the skeleton seemingly go downstairs and the door shut down, Kris let out a huge breath they didn't realise they'd been holding since they woke up. Holding out their hands, their fingertips were still physically cold to the touch, only causing their worries to escalate even further about what had really happened when they equipped Noelle with the thorn.

Before letting their thoughts spiral and go off the rails, Kris got up, locking their gaze on the soul that had been resting in the birdcage the whole night. It made Kris feel physically sick seeing it again... Knowing how they didn't have a choice but to just let it exist within them, pursuing whatever twisted idea it had in mind.

Today, the Knight was responsible for opening the flower shop dark world. One of the final steps of their ordeal. If everything went according to plan, that was. Considering how none of this stuff with Noelle was mentioned in the prophecy, Kris wasn't quite sure whether they were still playing into the fate's hand or maybe they defied the same fate and was heading towards a different outcome.

Only time shall tell. They promised, after all. They had to play along with whatever the soul decided to do with them.

Silence filled room was shortly disturbed by the harsh grabbing of the soul, inserted where it belong shortly after.

Stripped from their autonomy they could only perceive their surroundings unless they were given a command. So that's what had to be done for some while at least.

They really should've eaten those pancakes in the fridge when they had the chance.
