Work Text:

Cora had finally done it, he had caught Doflamingo and arrested him along with his cult-ish family. Law and Cora had rejoiced 3 days ago after the Donquixote family had finally been locked away in a cell awaiting trial, and although Law was still overjoyed to be free of his uncle, he was exhausted.

After the arrest, Law had spent the entirety of these past 2 days cleaning. He had to remove all of the family's personal belongings and felt the need to clean every last spot in this house. Though his devil fruit helped speed the process up, it still exhausted him, and when Law was finally done it was 9 pm on a Saturday.

He could hear the noise from outside and see the lights from his window–he finally had a room upstairs–people were talking, running around, having fun. He wondered what was going on until he checked his phone and saw the date. August 30, 2025. That made sense, today was the annual end of summer festival in the town square. Law maybe would have gone if he wasn't so exhausted, so exhausted that as soon as he put his phone down, head on the pillow he was asleep.

“Traffy, wake up!” Law was rudely awoken by screaming coming from outside his window, he rolled over to check his phone just to see 9:15. You have got to be fucking kidding me, who the fuck– Law thought as he looked up to see Luffy holding onto his window shutters and he banged on the glass. Law jumped back startled and confused on what was going on. Luffy seemed to notice that Law was awake and pointed down to where the front door would be before jumping down.

“Luffy was that really necessary,” Nami said as he landed.

“We could have just called him,” Usopp added.

“Traffy hasn't been answering his phone these last few days so I thought this was the easiest way to get his attention.” Luffy concluded.

“What the hell are you guys doing here,” Law asked as he swung open the front door.

“We came to ask if you wanted to come to the festival with us. You’ve been kinda m.i.a these past few days and we thought it would be fun.” Usopp answered.

“I can't, I'm sleeping.” Law answered bluntly.

“No you're not,” Luffy replied.

“Well I was two minutes ago before you started banging on my window!”

Nami cut in, “Anyway, this outfit is atrocious, you can't leave the house looking like this.”

“Well I don’t plan on leaving the house!” Law replied sassily.

“Well you are,” Nami said. “Kid’s band is playing tonight at the festival and they're actually pretty good, so let's go.”

“Eustass has a band?” Law questioned. The last time Law had seen Kid was the day he had left for his last year of med school. They had seen each other in the shopping center that day, Kid had waved to him while saying, Bye Trafalgar, I won’t miss ya. Law smirked and flipped him off as he walked away.

“Yes and you have already missed like the first half of their set,” Usopp’s voice brought Law back to the present, “so lets go.”

“Okay, give me like five minutes to change,” Law said as he left the doorway to make his way upstairs. He didn’t know why he was so awake now, five minutes ago he was completely knocked out in bed. The prospect of seeing Eustass Kid for the first time in a year, especially in a band, excited Law. Though he wouldn't admit that.

Law dug in his drawers to pull out his favourite pair of skinny jeans and a black tanktop. He put them both on combined with a pair of black boots. He moved his hand through his hair a little, deciding it was too hot for his hat.

As Law stepped into the doorway Nami said, “Wow, at the mention of Eustass Kid he's ready in 3 minutes.”

“Did you miss him,” Luffy teased.

“Shut up, let's go.” Law responded. If he’s honest he did miss Kid to a certain degree. He missed what they used to have. Back in high school Law was the smartest person in his grade, and even though Kid was a grade below him, he always seemed to be right behind Law, if not even with him. They had this sort of rivalry on who could be better at what subject. Shachi and Penguin always joked that they had some sort of tension and Law had said they were both delusional. But looking back on it now Law wonders if they were right.

---

They made it to the field where Kid’s band was playing. There was a stage set up in the middle of the field while people sat on beach towels in front of it, watching the show.

Usopp led them over to where their group was sitting and Law sat down next to Nico Robin. “Are they any good,” Law asked.

“I think so,” Robin responded.

The lights came on as Kid ran on stage. Law thought he looked cool, he was wearing a pair of black leather pants with skulls printed on them, a pink short-sleeve dress shirt, a black tie, his goggles, and a pair of combat boots. He would be lying if he said Kid didn’t look good.

“Okay people! This is our last song for the night, I hope you all know it!” Kid screamed into the mic. Heat and Quincy were both on guitar so they started off the song. Dive came in on the drums a couple seconds later and lastly Kid came in with the vocals.

Let me know that I’ve done wrong

When I’ve known this all along

I go around a time or two

Just to waste my time with you”

Good song choice , Law thought. As the performance continued Kid ran around the stage, jumping, interacting with his band, and it wasn't until the bridge that Law noticed the warm feeling in his chest. Kid looked so happy, the happiest Law had ever seen him.

Kid finished off the song and bowed, and as he lifted his head, with the crowd cheering in front of him, Law saw the biggest smile on Kid’s face he had ever seen. Kid looked like he was having the best day of his life, he looked like he was on top of the world. Law looked at him from across the field and had a new, stupid feeling in his chest, pride, and he hated it. He hated how proud of Eustass Kid he was, he felt like he should run across this field right now, jump on stage, and tell Kid how amazing his performance was. But no, he couldn't do that, because Kid was Kid. He was an annoying, red-haired bitch, who was apparently now a super sexy rockstar. Law wanted to be with him, wanted to be next to Kid, and know everything about him. He wanted to be at every band practice just to watch, to watch Kid in his element every day. Law loathed that thought, it made him sick.

Robin snapped Law out of his thoughts, “You ready to go, Torao?” Law looked up, Kid and his band had left the stage, the lights were dimmed, and people were starting to pack up their stuff.

“Yes, I’m gonna head off now, I’ll see you guys soon,” He replied. He regretted the words as soon as they came out of his mouth, because he knew he wasn’t going home.

“Okay… see you soon.” Robin looked at him confused, probably as to why Law had stayed for one song and then went back home, but Law had bigger things to worry about right now, like what he was going to say to Kid in about two minutes.

Law ran across the field until he was on the right side of the stage, and before he could think about what to do or what to say, he had put up a room and shambled himself into the small backstage area.

Kid, his bandmates, and some other people Law had recognised as Kid’s housemates looked up at him, shocked. They were all in the middle of packing up their instruments and were surprised at the intrusion, from Trafalgar Law of all people.

Law stood there, frozen, in front of Kid and his friends. He should’ve planned what he was going to say. Usually he had a plan for everything but at the moment he was just acting on impulse. He wanted to see Kid, and now he had, but he was also paying the price of not thinking before moving, by looking like a weirdo who had just barged in on these people without asking. He should leave, but before he had the chance to shamble himself back out, Kid spoke up.

“Trafalgar, what are you doing here,” Kid asked accusingly.

“Oh.. uh,” Fuck, this was embarassing. “Kid, can we talk, alone?”

“I asked first, what are you doing here?” Kid repeated.

“I wanted to talk to you.”

“About what?”

“Oh my god, just come outside and talk to me,” Law sighed.

“Fine,” Kid replied.

Law looked back at Kid’s friends as he walked out, they all looked very confused, rightfully so. Law would be confused if he was in their position. Kid followed him out to the back of the stage and before Law could get a word out Kid broke the silence.

“What the fuck is going on Trafalgar?”

Law felt like he was looking at a whole different person. This Eustass Kid was seperate to the one he knew in high school. This guy was different, he was electric, sickening, and hot. Law wanted Kid to pick him up and kiss him on stage just to show the world that Kid belonged to him. He wanted everything to do with him. Law had no idea where these thoughts had come from, just hours ago he was sweeping up his new bedroom, not giving this red-haired man a single thought. Now these thoughts wouldn't stop, thoughts of Kid at band practice, experimenting with new metals, and Law getting to be there with him for all of it. He was too deep in these thoughts now and Kid was staring at him weirdly.

“Trafalgar, hello, can you hear me,” Kid said as he waved his hand in front of Law’s face.

“Yes,” Law said, annoyed to have been pulled from his fantasies.

“What's going on!” Kid sounded tired of this conversation.

“Oh, uh, I just wanted to say hi, you know, since we haven't seen each other in the past year, I just thought I would say hi.” He lied, Law knew he sounded stupid, but saying he ran over here to tell Kid how proud he was of him was too embarrassing.

“Bullshit,” Kid called him out. “You could have done that earlier in the summer and besides, for the three summers before this one, you have never, not even once, went out of your way to greet me after coming home.”

“Earlier this summer I was helping Cora catch Doflamingo,” Law replied.

“Is that your only excuse, because I know you weren’t doing that last summer.”

Law just went quiet, he had no more excuses that would suffice and was too afraid to tell Kid why he was actually here.

Kid broke the silence, “I don’t got time for this Trafalgar, me and friends are supposed to be going out for drinks right now and I don’t want to keep them waiting any longer.”

Kid started to walk away before Law asked, “Even Dive and Hip!?” Law knew this wasn’t what he should be asking right now, and he knew Kid was a stupid irresponsible idiot, but he honestly couldn't believe he would take those two out with him for drinks. Dive was only 14 while Hip was 17, Kid would be arrested if he was caught buying drinks for them.

“No, you idiot,” Kid spat out. “Dive and Hip are staying home. Me, Killer, Quincy, Wire, and Heat promised to be home by 11 pm. We're not that bad at taking care of them, y'know."

“I don’t doubt Killer is doing a fine job, you, not so much.” Law countered.

“Okay, I’m done here, if you were gonna be a dick you didn’t have to come say hi,” Kid said as he continued to walk away. He actually sounded a little hurt and for some weird reason Law felt the need to apologise.

“Wait, Kid, I’m sorry. I know all of you guys do a good job. I saw how happy Dive looked on stage with you, and how happy Hip looked while cheering for you.” Kid paused while walking, he looked back at Law with a surprised expression on his face.

“You know how to apologize,” Kid asked, surprised.

“Yes, you oaf!” Law replied angrily.

Kid smirked, “Okay Trafalgar, I’ll give you one last chance to explain why you really needed to talk to me so badly.” Law considered the offer for a moment, 1. he could be honest and potentially start something between him and Kid, or 2. he could walk away right now and forget this ever happened. Option 1 was looking pretty nice right now.

“I wanted to tell you that you looked really cool out there tonight. I only got to hear the last song, but you looked so happy on stage and I just wanted to let you know that it was good, and I'm proud of you.”

Kid continued to smirk as he walked closer to Law, he was about an arms reach away before saying, “Is this your odd way of flirting with me Trafalgar?” Law blushed, it was a weird feeling, to feel nervous to the point of nausea, especially considering the cause was Eustass Kid.

Kid moved in a little closer to inspect Law’s face, and before he could stop himself Law had grabbed Kid’s face and pushed their lips together. Kid tensed up at first, before falling into it and pushing back against Law. Law felt needy, he wanted Kid and felt the need to consume him, so nobody else could have him.

“Kid, are you out here,” Law heard a voice from around the corner. They both pulled back from the kiss, Kid looked surprisingly happy, but before Law could savour the moment he heard footsteps getting closer. The person turned the corner and before they could see him, Law created a big room and shambled himself to the entrance of the town square, now Kid was standing there alone, with a small rock.
