This line has always hit me hard, and it comes from a character I believe is criminally underrated. This fic is my imagining of Raiden and Shin’s shared history, and the bond that eventually shaped Raiden’s fatalistic stubbornness.
At the end of Raiden Shuga’s first year as a Processor in the San Magnolia army, he is left as one of only two survivors of his squad. The other is a quiet and mysterious boy named Shinei Nouzen.
As the years pass, the two continue to be the only Eighty Six left standing at the end of their deployments, forming a deep bond of trust through loss, survival, and the endless pressure of the battlefield. Eventually, they are joined by others who prove capable of enduring the harsh realities of war.
A short prequel piece focused on Raiden, taking place before he, Shin, and the others arrive at Spearhead Squadron.
