“Well, what do you think?” Starscream leaned back on his heels and let Skyfire examine the plating he’d welded over his chest. “It’s not pretty but–”
“It shields my spark chamber and is an ingenious use of copper alloys.” Skyfire looked away from the brownish plating and smiled. “How did you manage to bind it to our native metals?”
“With a great deal of swearing.” He beamed his partner a file, the results of repeated trial and error as he melted and remelted mangled plating and local metals, and stood up. “It appears to be worth the effort, though.”
“It does, yes. Thank you, Starscream.” Careful of his new welds, Skyfire also stood up. “Now what else did you have to show me?”
“Well, I didn’t waste all my efforts. Some of the metals I experimented with were strong enough for walls.” Starscream led him into the entryway of the shelter they had carved into the ice and show.
Leaned against the walls were enough sheets of… well, he wasn't sure what the metal was at a glance, but it looked solid, and there were enough to shore up the ice and provide protection if it started melting any time soon.
Skyfire’s smile widened. “We can make a real shelter now!”
“We’ll still have to find creative ways to heat the shelter, but yes.” Starscream smiled back. “And I have thoughts about that, too, if you’re willing to give up a few microscope lenses.”
