It had been a year since they last saw each other. A year since Altissia. Lunafreya had survived…Noctis had not. He had been brought home to Lucis and buried near his favorite lake. Noctis used to fish there as often as he could when he was younger. It was a place he had written about many times in the letters they exchanged. Lunafreya had only been to the place once before.
“Lady Lunafreya?” Ignis asked in a slightly surprised tone. “I hadn't expected to see you here today.”
The best she could offer was a small smile. It was too much for words. Every time she tried to speak it ended in tears. Even so, she could hardly imagine being anywhere else but here. She had been here when his friends laid him to rest in this place.
How am I to go on when you aren't here, Noctis?
Ignis looked down at Lunafreya. He could see her shake slightly trying to maintain her composure. “Would you like to be alone with him? We can come back. Or perhaps there's something else you need?”
“I…” Lunafreya began to answer and stopped. She took a deep breath before trying to speak again.
“I think he would be happiest if we were all here to visit him together.” The tears started falling again. “I miss him so, so very much. I'm sure you do as well.”
The sound of gentle waves washing against the shore couldn't drown out the sound of her crying. Eventually Prompto cried as well. Ignis turned away, unable to hide his grief. Even Gladiolus shed a few tears. The four of them stayed by his grave through the night into the next morning.
