Luke gently tucked her hair behind her ears. Her heart fluttered. “I’m out of time. But I promise, with all my heart and all my soul, I will come back for you.” He raised her hand to her heart and kissed it.
“Promise?” Thalia whispered questioningly. She didn't know what was going on, she didn’t know why she was on the soil with dirt covering every part of her body. She didn’t know why Luke was leaving her so soon and she didn't know what Luke was even talking about. What promise? She could barely move, much less stand up and she felt helpless, unable to voice her questions. The last thing she wanted was for Luke to leave.
“I promise,” Luke said firmly, “I will come back.” His lips gently met her own, emitting a soft gasp and a flutter of her eyes shut before he broke apart and kissed her forehead, “I love you, my little lightning girl.”
