Work Text:
They watched in excitement as their parents snuggled together. Charlie was practically vibrating with happiness.
“It worked, we’re going to have siblings in no time.”
"They look so cute together. This was such a good idea, just look at them, their perfect for each other."
Echo watched their parents tail wagging happily. It was just like the romance movies their mom would show them.
"You would think after all the movies he's shown us, he'd realize what was happening."
"I know some of those ideas were inspired by The Parent Trap."
Blue admitted.
"I hope Mom likes the flowers I picked."
"They looked so good."
Blue assured her younger sister.
"I don't know why dad didn't just give them to him, or why mom told us she loved them when dad gave them to him."
"Mom can be oblivious sometimes."
Blue spoke as though she had seen it many times.
"He can be oblivious when people show interest in him. When I was younger, I'd often times have to protect him from unwanted suitors."
"Maybe it's because deep down his instincts are telling him that Dad would be a good mate."
Charlie looked excited and Echo nodded in agreement.
"What do you think, Delta?"
"Yeah, why are you so quiet?"
“Mom looks cold. I know we wanted him to wear something nicer, but humans are more sensitive to temperatures than we are.”
Delta pointed out being the first to notice their mom shivering slightly from the cold.
They all looked at Blue, who huffed.
“That’s the nicest thing he owned, and we all agreed on the outfit.”
The others looked away, and Delta eyed their parents.
“Dad can keep Mom warm.”
“I don’t think cuddling is enough.”
Blue pointed out, now looking worried. The last thing she wanted was their mom to get sick.
“He’s wearing a jacket.”
Delta looked at their dad, and Echo huffed.
“How are we supposed to get it off him?”
“Just go over and take it off.”
Charlie suggested taking a step forward.
“How is he supposed to show mom he cares about him if he can’t even take off a jacket. Maybe he’s not worthy of our mom.”
Echo growled, eyeing their dad, and Charlie snapped.
“You take that back!”
Echo and Charlie were about to get into a fight when Delta stopped them, looking unusually excited.
“Look!”
They watched as their dad took off his jacket and wrapped it around their mom, who looked surprised. All of them cheered and accidentally ruined the moment. Running over, they lay down and cuddled with their parents just like they did as babies. Both their parents pet their snouts, and they purred while rubbing against their hands. All of them looked at each other, already coming up with more ways to get them together. Charlie leaned against Blue, who allowed it, watching as her sister talked to herself.
“I can’t wait to get more siblings. I wonder what they’ll look like. I’m going to be an amazing big sister.”
“Let's not get ahead of ourselves. We still need to get them together.”
Delta looked at Blue, who was snuggled against their mom.
“Do you have any more ideas?”
“Give me some time to think.”
Blue cuddled closer to mom, having always loved cuddling with him ever since she was a baby. Even now, her snout pressed against his hand, wanting to be pet.
Owen noticed and immediately began petting her. He looked around, noticing his girls all around him, and smiled. One of his favorite things in the whole world was cuddling with his girls, and he knew they felt the same way. He let himself relax and got lost in the moment. Until it started to get late enough that they needed to get back, otherwise they'd be sleeping out in the forest, something he didn't feel like doing. He forced himself to his feet, and Barry followed, looking equally reluctant. The girls didn't seem happy with this development and grumbled. Blue even tried getting him to lie back down, which he sadly refused.
“Come on, time for bed.”
They reluctantly got up, and Blue pressed her face into his back to show her displeasure. He pet her head in comfort and reminded her that her nest would be more comfortable.
“Come on, it's time for bed.”
Barry yawned to show them he was tired, and he did the same thing. This got his girls to finally follow them back to the raptor padlock. He opened the door and let the four of them inside, watching as they cuddled up in their nest. Barry came up behind him, and he smiled at the other man.
“Good work today, and thanks for staying late.”
“No problem.”
He noticed Barry looking him over, and he gave him a confused look.
“What is it? Is there something on my face?”
“You look tired.”
“When am I not? I’ve been up worrying about the girls and trying to figure out their weird behavior.”
“I’ve been taking notes. How about you come back to my house and we can look them over?”
“That sounds like a date.”
He teased, and Barry just nudged him as he left. He looked back at his girls to see all four of them watching, and he waved goodnight before following Barry to his truck and preferred ride.
He climbed inside and could smell the faint trace of coffee. The radio was turned low and played whatever was popular at the moment. He leaned back against his comfy seat, feeling as Barry drove off. He was one of the best drivers he knew, and even though he wanted to talk about the girl's behavior, he found himself falling asleep in the safety and comfort of Barry's car.
He didn’t realize they’d arrived until he could distantly hear a car door shut, and then Barry was there telling him to wake up. He groaned, giving him an unhappy look at being awakened. Barry ignored it, having gotten used to it by now, and helped him out of the car. Still half asleep, he was sort of out of it as they walked into his small apartment.
He went to sit on the couch and was instead led to a bed. His head hit the pillow, and he blinked, frowning in confusion because it smelled like Berry. He buried his face into the pillow, his eyes getting heavy. He felt a blanket wrap around him, and he closed his eyes, falling asleep.
