5:30 Alarm

Summary:

Predictably, there’s a puffed laugh from beneath him, and a wriggle. “Shinji.”

Shinjiro grunts and ignores him. Shuts his eyes and buries his face at the juncture between Aki’s shoulder and neck, where the skin is warm and smells like his bodywash. ‘Unscented’, allegedly. Mostly, it just smells like soap. It’s a mild enough smell that Aki likes it though, with his sensitive nose and all, and Shinjiro likes it well enough because it smells like him.

Hmm. Shinjiro is very sleepy. He thinks it’s time for bed again.

“Shinji,” comes Aki’s voice again, like clockwork. Another wriggle. “Hey, c’mon. You heard my alarm, I gotta get up.”

Shinjiro bites back something mean, mostly because they’re in a relationship now, which means Shinjiro can’t call Aki stupid when he does something that Shinjiro doesn’t want him to or like at all… even if that something is getting up at the ass crack of dawn to exercise on a fucking weekend.

---

Akihiko Sanada is a habitual early riser; Shinjiro Aragaki is not... at the very least, he isn't on Sundays.

Work Text:

It is 5:30AM when Aki’s alarm goes off. This is far too early, and also, it’s a Sunday, so after stretching out a hand to dismiss it, Shinjiro puts both arms around him and squeezes him back close again.

So instead he mumbles “Nuh” and secures both arms around Aki’s waist. Squeezes again, for extra measure. Getting Akihiko to sleep in—even on a weekend—is usually a fool’s venture, and Shinjiro doesn’t lack so much self awareness that he expects Aki to stay here and lounge around in bed with him all day, just because he wants to keep his man-sized heating pack beneath the covers. Even on Sundays, Aki’s got a propensity to vibrate right out of the sheets like he just received a static charge directly to the bone. There’s no stopping it; it’s inevitable.

Aki doesn’t try and shove him off, though. Instead there’s another laugh, this time with more voice to it, and his fingers trail through Shinjiro’s hair. He’s purposeful with touch, with how he pets Shinjiro, like he’s trying to solve a puzzle, figuring out what yields the best results. This isn’t how Shinjiro prefers to operate—he does what feels right, and trusts that Aki will say something if he doesn’t feel the same—but he can’t quite speak poorly of Aki’s methods. Shinjiro shutters, ducks his head, letting out a low breath.

“Mm,” Aki’s voice buzzes through his chest, “did you sleep all right?”

Shinjiro grunts again. He frankly doesn’t remember. ‘Well’, as a metric for sleeping, isn’t something he really knows how to define these days. Akihiko’s strict about it, firm on eight to ten hours, no more no less, and definitely no midday naps, but Shinjiro considers a night a victory if he can sleep through his nightmares. What little he remembers of last night’s dreams… are unpleasant. Predictably. But Aki is here, and he’s warm, so that’s nice.

The fingers in Shinjiro’s hair go still. It seems like Aki’s taking the lack of response as a negative because he mumbles, “Anything you want to talk about?”

“Christ,” Shinjiro finally says, annoyed enough to verbalise, “damn morning people’re so annoying. Talking my ear off.”

Akihiko just laughs, because he has never respected Shinjiro for a day in his life. “Okay, okay. Sorry.” He’s quiet for only a moment before he starts to speak again though, as is his way. “Are you really sleepy? I don’t mind staying here if you want to sleep in… a little bit.”

This is what pisses off Shinjiro about Aki. As if he hadn’t been obvious enough about his desire to stay in bed. He’s wrapped around the guy with arms and legs right now, goddamnit. Even if Shinjiro feels something is obvious, though, sometimes messages like that tend to elude Aki, if not stated explicitly.

So Shinjiro sighs. “Yes.”

“Okay,” is what Aki says, again. His hand starts moving again in Shinjiro’s hair, and he yawns, seemingly lulled by the repetitive motion. “Just… for a while, okay? Gotta get a start to my routine.”

Shinjiro usually has a certain amount of respect for Aki’s routine and other associated neuroses. He knows very well why Aki is this way, after all, even if he wishes the guy would relax a bit… but he’s so sleepy. He’s not firing on enough synapses to think about setting a followup alarm or finding a way to make sure Akihiko makes it to his workout before the sun comes up. So he falls asleep again, instead, which is what he was trying to do in the first place.

They sleep in until noon. When Aki wakes up, a full fifteen minutes after Shinjiro, he takes a look at the clock on the nightstand, blinks the haze out of his eyes, and bursts into sleepy laughter once the realisation kicks in. Seems the world hadn’t ended, since he decided to stay in bed a little while later.

Who would’ve thunk it. Shinjiro decides he’d better start doing that every Sunday, if this is the reaction; but for now, he just hooks an arm over Aki’s shoulders and hauls him in close for a kiss.
