Work Text:
Today, the sky mourned.
Mourned with the bullets of rain pelting down onto the hard earth.
Mourned with the cries of thunderstorms cursing the ground.
Mourned with the sorrow of lightning striking the land.
Over and over again.
Today, the sky wept.
Wept with the grief of a husband losing his wife.
Wept with the pain of a parent for not doing enough.
Wept with the regret of a teen for uttering those three words.
Over and over again.
Today, the sky screamed.
Screamed at the cruelty of the world.
Screamed at the inhumanity of fate.
Screamed at the absence of just one more chance.
Over and over again.
And yet, while the sky wrecked the world and all that lived on it.
No amount of damage could mend the cracks in its soul.
So the sky hid its tears.
Shielded away its pain
But still waiting for another chance
Just more chance
To destroy the earth.
Not in spite, not as an act of revenge.
But in the hopes that if the land was destroyed,
The sky would finally be gone too.
