Work Text:
It’s a rare day that she’s alone at the Yoruzuya.
Gin-chan is now hanging around the Yoshiwara, saying he got a request from Hinowa to tutor Seita about history. Shinpachi has a meeting with his Otsuu-chan fan club for an upcoming concert. Kagura believed the latter, but she snickered at the lame-ass excuse her pseudo-father figure said to her.
(But it’s better than seeing him desolate and drowning in sorrow, she couldn’t say a word of comfort as she knew grief holds like a tightrope.)
There are some days where chaos happens either in the earliest morning of the day and late evenings. She wasn’t averse to the chaos, she welcomed it. It’s better than those days where the only companion she has is the cold silence of her old home.
But little moments like these, she finally takes a breather.
Kagura takes a soft brush, gently brushing the tips of her vermilion hair. She let her thoughts drown out the songs played on the tv channel.
Carefully brushing her hair, she reminds herself of ordering online of her favorite shampoo, conditioner, and hair mask. Kagura has heard from her friends that car exhaust can truly damage hair scalp, and the thought of being bald just like her Papi causes her to have goosebumps.
And besides, her hair is more like a memento of her Mami. Kagura knows that she resembles her Mami, seeing how her brother sometimes looks at her with an unreadable expression while her father just pats her head, watching her with fondness and regret.
She ignored it, just giving them a huge grin.
(“I hope you’re here to witness her growth, Kouka,” her Papi said when they visit Mami’s gravestone, “people will say you will look like sisters. Hearing that, maybe your ego will reach into the skies.”)
A huge groan snapped out of her thoughts. Kagura turns to see Sadaharu, finally awake from his afternoon nap.
Glancing at the time, Kagura took her hair ornament and clipped both sides while letting her hair down. She twirled, satisfied with her look today.
It’s a waste not to show off her new white cheongsam.
Standing up and grabbing her umbrella. Kagura calls out her beloved pet.
“C’mon, Sadaharu! Let’s take a walk in the park.”
Sadaharu followed her with a woof.
Kagura walks side by side with Sadaharu, ignoring those lingering stares.
She perked up when there’s less people, but she went further into the park. Gin-chan reprimanded her for playing with Sadaharu in a populated area. It’s okay if they destroy the park because they can blame it on the corrupt government and complain loudly that the people’s money is giving to those tax-robbing policemen. But now they gotta stay low because some snot kid cried loudly just because he saw Sadaharu pooping causing those nosey mothers to point them for disturbing the peace, and Gin-chan is complaining because that Mayo-freak is breathing over their necks.
Kagura harrumphs.
When they took a turn, Kagura saw a familiar auburn haired figure with a creepy eyed red eye mask sleeping. Her brow twitched and was about to take a step back and turn when a thought came into her.
Kagura pressed her lips into thin lines then sighed.
She continued her way and stopped in front of him.
Kagura knows she wasn’t shy, but all this time she felt she have a huge favor to him. It’s been a long time, but back then, she felt conflicted on going back to Earth as she felt that she failed on reviving Sadaharu after her big talk on healing him. The constant travelling between planets for 2 years seems to naught. She started to doubt if her leaving caused the Yoruzuya to break apart permanently.
But a call from Mutsu resolved her decision to go back to Earth.
And this guy is the cause of it.
Kagura thought, her feelings resolved.
“I’m saying this once, Sadist,” she said then whispered, “thank you.”
She softly smiled then turned, “next time, I’ll fucking punt your ugly mug on the ground.”
A hand grabbed her wrist.
“Is this how tsundere acts now?” a deep voice said, “and that pathetic excuse of thank you is really… what’s the word now, yes, cringe.”
“I prefer if you grovel into my feet and say that ‘Kaiser Okita de Sade Sougo III is the strongest—”
Kagura attacked him with her umbrella. “Like hell I say shit like that!” she roared.
Sougo immediately brandished his sword, blocking the attack. A grin plastered on his face. He dodged and blocked the incoming bullets. He jumped and attacked her.
Kagura deflected, letting their weapons meet. She pushed forward, then kicked him on his side. Her teeth gritted when seeing him intercept the attack with his elbow.
She dodged and jumped away when a slash of his sword comes into her. Kagura jumped away.
“You sick head, I’m wearing my new dress!”
Sougo raised a brow, “I thought monster gorillas like you didn't care about this?”
“Fuck you!”
Kagura turns her attention to her dress, patting away the non-existent dust.
“C’mon, Sadaharu! We’re going back now!”
Kagura started to walk away, ignoring the heavy stare behind her back.
“Oi, China.”
She ignored him.
“That thank you.”
Kagura halts, turns to him. Her oceanic blue eyes flared, “Forget that, you—”
“Go out with me.”
She paused, looking at him deeply. Seeing his solemn expression and a pair of deep red eyes, the words she wanted to utter suddenly failed her.
“Wha—”
“Go out with me, China.”
Sougo suddenly grins. “Don’t say you’re being a coward now.”
“What?! No!” Kagura blurts out, her hold on into the umbrella tightens. Fuck him. Fuck him! Her heart quickens for no reason.
“You don’t say that to a girl! It’s unfair if you say shit like that!” Kagura is practically screaming at him.
“I’m not honorable to be honest, and you know that.” Sougo admitted. “If you say no, I’ll arrest danna and that megane.”
“You!” She fumed yet her cheeks burned up.
Sougo takes a step towards her. It haunted Kagura as she wished to escape but her feet were rooted. She knows deep down that there will be a day that this will happen, but she never thought it will be this day.
“Go out with me, Kagura.”
