Work Text:
From the moment the two men had met, Hamilton always felt that Burr had somewhat of an upperclassmen aura to him, it was love at first smell. And when they kissed, Burr could smell the magic on his breath, almost akin to the smell of alcohol. Actually, it probably was alcohol. The alcohol made him cheat on his wife that night, and it tied the two together.
They started hooking up regularly after that night, and Hamilton’s wife Eliza would have never found out, if she hadn’t seen the letters Burr had wrote to her husband.
That night, she called Hamilton into the kitchen.
“Alexander, I found this in the mail. Do you care to explain this?” She sternly asked, crossing her arms.
Hamilton peered into the kitchen at his wife, confused.
“What do you mean, who’s it from?”
“It’s from your opp…Burr.”
Eliza stared at the open letter in her hand, but before she could even finish rereading it, he snatched it aggressively out of her hands.
“Give me that,” Hamilton shouted.
Eliza flinched, before snatching the letter back from him. They went back and forth like this for like 20 minutes, before Hamilton finally gave up.
“Did you read it?” Hamilton questioned. Averting her eyes, Eliza sighed heavily.
“I can’t believe you, Alexander… Is this some kind of joke?”
She paused. But after not hearing a response from Hamilton, she read out loud.
“My dearest, Alexander-chan, Nyaaa~”
Hamilton’s eyes lit up with embarrassment and a hint of excitement when Eliza began reading the letter in her hands.
“Is that what Burr calls you?” Eliza scoffs.
Seeing his reaction just confirmed her suspicions. She continues.
“It saddens me deeply that you have to keep our relationship private. Seeing you with your wife elicits sorrow and rage in me. Come see me tomorrow for dinner, if you find the time. If you know what I mean ;). Daddy misses you lots, Alexander chan. Fuck your bitchass wife I’m manifesting your divorce, AND the death of your son. Sincerely, Arron Burr.”
By the end of the letter, Eliza was in tears. Her hands shook, and the paper silently fell to the floor. Hamilton rushed over to comfort her, but she shoved him away.
“I can’t do this anymore, Alexander. You told me how much you hated him, so why?” She asked between sobs.
Hamilton was at a loss, but in the back of his mind he could hardly wait to visit Burr for dinner tomorrow. No feeling is permanent, he thought. Eliza’s tears wouldn’t matter as long as Burr was still writing to him. Soon, he’d be able to run off with his so-called ‘rival’. But his fantasies were interrupted by Eliza slamming the door of their bedroom, disappearing from sight. Hamilton looked down at the letter once more, and stuffed it into his pocket.
Hamilton slept in his office that night, unable to get Burr out of his head. The entire day, he thought about Burr, before it was finally time to meet him for dinner. He rushed out the door as soon as the clock hit 6 o’clock, leaving his crying wife on the couch.
Burr had been nervously waiting on the couch ever since he dropped that letter in Alexander’s mailbox. He wasn’t sure if he had even gotten the letter, or if he was able to show up. However, relief flooded over the man when he heard a knock at his door. He rushed to answer it, and saw Alexander standing outside in the 90 degree cold.
“Alexander chan. My oomf. You made it.” Burr couldn’t help but grin. However, the excitement died down a little when he noticed Alexander’s worried demeanor.
“What is it that’s ailing you, my little kitten?”
“Eliza found the letters.” Hamilton’s voice was feeble, and his words came out quickly.
“What?”
“She knows,” Hamilton continued, “What if she tries to ruin my reputation with this?”
Burr’s surprise faded into sympathy. Wrapping his hands around Alexander’s shoulders, he tried to comfort him. “It’s gonna be okayyy😕She wouldn’t do thattt nooo” He cooed. Alexander calmed down a bit. “Can I come in?”
The two he/hims sat down on the living room couch type shit. Thinking about what to do next, the two spent the rest of the night together.
It was a cold and crisp 90° June morning. Phillip woke up shivering in his bed from a baad nightmare. He rubbed his eyes and got out of bed, stretched his arms and went to the door of his room. Before he even left, he heard his parents arguing. This wasn’t anything new, but it sounded pretty serious that time. Phillip wondered if it was about Burr. Everyone but Eliza seemed to notice the growing closeness of Burr and Hamilton. Either way, he didn’t pay attention to it. Phillip had already known for years at this point, but something about his parents’ tone of voice intrigued him, so he opened the door slightly to get a glimpse of their conversation.
Eliza seemed to be holding something. But Phillip already knew what it was. Burr must’ve sent his father a letter, as he has been for the past few years. He figured his mother would realise sooner or later. Phillip had always wondered what the letters had contained, and he wouldn’t have to wonder much longer, as Eliza started reading it out. It made him cringe so badly he had to go back to his room. These disgusting fucks. It’s Adam and Eve NOT Adam and STEVE….. He wanted to go out there and call his father the funny word, but he decided to go back to bed instead.
When the clock strikes 12 and midnight arrives, Phillip hears the door to his room open. He looks up and sees his mother standing in the doorway.
“Hello Philip,” She says, gently. “Do you mind if I talk to you for a second?”
Caught off guard, he nods.
“Your father… Well, he’s a complicated man… But don’t hate him for it, alright? Our issues aren’t YOURS. So just don’t say anything when he comes back.”
Phillip sits up. “IS he coming back though?”
“He’s had meetings with…Burr… in the past..And he always comes back.” She stared at her lap, as if unsure in her own words.
Phillip recoils and immediately starts screaming at her. “That’s fucking DISGUSTING, mom. DISGUSTING. Those are two MEN!!!!”
“Phillip! Don’t say that about your father!!” Tears start streaming down her face again. ”Your FATHER is a good man!!! Just because he’s meeting with Burr… it can’t mean anything!!”
He throws his hands up, exasperated. “Can’t you see?? EVERYONE knows about them. Even Aunt Angelica has been talking about it! You’re looking away on purpose.”
In tears, his mother walks away weeping. “I can’t believe you’d say that about him…” And Phillip was left alone. Bitter and sickened.
5 minutes later, he hears a bang. It was the front door slamming, followed by the familiar footsteps circling the living room.
