"Why did you do it?" the Doctor asked, leaning back onto the console. "Why didn't you give them the information they wanted?"
Rose sat silently for a minute, collecting her thoughts as blue eyes watched her. She rubbed her wrists where the rope had rubbed her raw, ignoring the sting of her skin as she tried to come up with an answer. She knew she loved him and needed to protect him with every fiber of her body and soul, but she couldn't tell him that.
She couldn't tell him that she yearned to hold him at night when he was lonely, that she wanted to chase away the nightmares that plagued his sleep, that she would do anything for him, including undergoing torture from people who wanted to hurt him. Rose didn't know who those people were, but it had been worth the fight. The Doctor was safe, however angry he was at her, but she'd never betray him like that. Not even if it meant relief from the inflicted pain.
"Rose." She glanced back up at him. "Why didn't you save yourself?"
Rose couldn't answer.
